I have my mail set up through pop3 to connect to gmail and all works fine, except that once I send an email I then receive a copy of the email I just sent. Any ideas?
It doesn't really cause any real functional issues other than just being really annoying.

It sounds to me like you have gmail configured to save sent emails in a sent folder and you have POP configured to download that folder as well.
I think those are settings you probably need to tweak in your Gmail pop settings on the web and not in the messaging client on the device.
interesting, I looked within gmail's settings and did not find anything to do with copies of sent items. is there a way to configure this within wm outlook?
is imap a better interface? does it work with wm outlook?
Thanks
Gmail:
Forwarding and POP/IMAP
1. Status: POP is enabled for all mail that has arrived since 7:49 am
Enable POP for all mail (even mail that's already been downloaded)
Enable POP for mail that arrives from now on
Disable POP
2. When messages are accessed with POP >> keep in inbox
3. Configure your email client (e.g. Outlook, Eudora, Netscape Mail)
Configuration instructions
My understanding is this is a 'side effect' (i.e. nothing you can fix) of how gmail handles E-mails...
Any time you send an e-mail from your device you will receive a copy of it on your phone (when using gmail)..
My understanding is this is limited to gmail only....
That said, I only check my 2 gmail accounts from my phone, and never reply on the phone, so doesn't bother me too much ;-)
Had the same issue. Solved the problem by switching to IMAP protocol. Now everything works flawlessly
And by the way, this relates to Gmail only, other mailboxes work fine

that's odd, I switched to imap last night and tried it out with the same results. I'll check my settings again to verify the changes took effect.
otherwise, it looks like I may be stuck for now. not a big deal, though. thanks for the info guys.
Mine does the same thing from the phone. If I send through my outlook account with my gmail I don't get a copy of the message.

I'm using Outlook 2007 on my desktop with 3 POP email accounts, calendar, tasks, etc.
Is there a fairly simple way to sync and push email to my Tilt without having exchange server available ?
Thanks,
DLD
Direct push is for exchange 2003 & 2007 only, it has nothing to do with the outlook client. Why don't you setup the pop3 on your phone? On my phone I have 1 exchange account, and 2 pop3 accounts, and it works great.
You could always try Emoze - http://www.emoze.com/ - some people love it, some people hate it. Not tried it myself.
Other options include using Live Mail - which supports push in WM6, or setting up a Mail2Web account. You could then create a rule in Outlook to forward any received mail to your new address. You might be able to configure Live Mail to pull from other Pop3 mailboxes (I know Gmail does this, but I don't know about Live Mail). That way all three Pop accounts end up in your Live Mail bucket, and you sync just that one account with your phone.
Any good?

I could do that, but then I'd have to manually check for mail.
It would just be nice to have blackberry-like mail arrival.

you can tell the phone to check every 5 mins for emails? that's just as regular as blackberry. battery sapping tho. its in the advanced section of the messaging setup. you can do it on symbian nokias too.

Unless it is an unlocked version, there is a client ready to install on the Tilt that does the same thing. ExpressMail

I like the concept of XpressMail (using SMS notification, therefore good for battery life), though I've had little luck getting push to work. It rarely, if ever, worked on my MPX220. I eventually accepted the fact that I'd simply have to do a send/receive when I was interested in seeing if there was new mail. Now that I have the Tilt, I'm having the same reliability issues. It HAS worked... I've had a couple messages show up all on their own, but for the most part, they don't. I've gone into the online configuration @ https://xpressmail.cingular.com/, and found that I had not only one, but two devices set up (my MPX220 set up twice). I deleted both of those, but for some reason can't seem to get the Tilt added. I can go through the process, but once I select it, it just never gets added to the list. The list of emails online is correct, so obviously the xpress mail app is properly getting the emails from my mail provider (comcast), but it's either not sending out the SMS messages, or they aren't being interpreted correctly by the phone.
I had a situation where i needed to syn with 2 exchange servers, and i didnt' want to run a desktop app.
Google for "seven beta" and get the OWA Out of office. You can set it up to sync only email and it works like push off of the OWA of exchange. If you don't have exchange they have a desktop version. Seven is the same people who develop the xpress mail for cingular.
Hi everyone,
i have the following problem: when i get my mail via pop3 from googlemail i also receive the send messages which are stored in google in my inbox.
The support from T-Mobile said they know the problem and the know it has to do with the setting, but they can't tell me which the setting is.
Can somebody help me please.
Gmail is currently adding IMAP to all users. log in and check your gmail settings to see if you gmail acct has it added yet. if it does, try using imap instead on your kaiser.
I actually have IMAP setup through gmail on my Wizard. I recieve the message headers but the bodies of the mail are blank. Not sure if I have something set wrong but AFAIK my phone is told to download the full message, no size limitations.
Change your account settings on the Kaiser. It's set to pull headers only and you can tweak that considerably. I'm getting all the text, but leaving attachments there.
You arent alone, buddy.

I have no problems with my Gmail account when I access my mail using the POP settings. When I try to access my email using the IMAP settings I have the same problem with the body of my messages coming up blank. I guess the IMAP server is so new, they are having problems showing threaded messages...
Yep, same issue for me as well.
its a common issue for all users of pop...it has something to do with their chat-style interface, even in pop.
i stopped using it because the sent messages get so annoying to delete. i just make gmai.com my home page now
all my emails just disappeared when i sent an email today???? even the ones i have not read. the only emails that are still there are sent items??? does anyone else have this problem? gmail has been working fine for about a month and half since i got my tilt.
the emails are still saved when i use my pc and go to gmail. i got a smartphone cause i need mobile email. this really defeats the purpose.
sorry if this is a duplicate topic. but if someone can help me out that would be great. -BILL
By default, I believe your last 3 days worth of email is stored on the phone. Perhaps the email was older then 3 days. You can change that in the email setup. Hope this helps.
Gmail works much better as imap versus pop3
I was having some strange problems with gmail when I initially set it up on my Tilt. By default, when you setup a new gmail account, the wizard sets it up as a pop3 account. This is how I had mine setup at first, and it worked inconsistently.
I then set it up again, but this time manually configured the account, selecting imap as account type. You may need to check the setup of your gmail account on a pc to verify that imap is enabled. It will also give you the settings that you need to configure the Tilt.
Since setting this account up as in imap type, it has been extremely reliable.
Sorry if this has been addressed already, but I thought it relevant so I'm posting it here. I've always used just my GMail account with the native app and it's worked fine so I never really bothered with my Hotmail account since it's only POP mail and I feel that having it poll my Inbox every 15mins drains the battery heavily. But I read this morning that they've just started rolling out the new Windows Live Hotmail Wave 4 today, which includes Exchange ActiveSync support for Push email and Account syncing for Calendar and Contacts.
As it's being rolled out in clusters, my account hasn't been upgraded yet. But I decided to try to set up my account to Push anyways and it seems like it's working fine.
If you want to do the same in the Stock Email App, Add a New Account. Then input your Email Address and Password then hit the Manual Setup button and Select Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync and use these settings:
Domain\Username: \username@hotmail.com
Password: password
Server: m.hotmail.com
Use Secure Connection (SSL): Yes
Accept all SSL Certificates: No
hit Next, then make sure the Email Check Frequency is set to Automatic (Push) and then just set your other sync options. (I've only synced mail since my contacts and calendar are synced with GMail).
I'm sure some things will change when my account actually gets the upgrade, but for now, it's basically all I need.
Full Disclosure: I'm on 2.2 and using the stock Email App for this. I don't know how this will impact 2.1 or if you're using K9 or Touchdown, etc. so feel free to post you results.
Just tried your settings with the 2.1 email app and it's no go.
Just tested...
...and it works! Running 2.2 (FRF50).
Even though I rarely use it and that it's mostly used for pretty useless mail it's still nice that it works, finally.

Using stock 2.1 update 1, it works except there's no calendar option(should only available in 2.2), but the server is not very stable, need a few more retry to connect
Must be why it failed then.
2.2 you can add with out having to change any settings.
Do you know the setting to use in any other apps? The stock mail app doesnt allow showing html pictures, so i'd prefer to use k-9 or touchdown...
THANKS!!

Worked for me on 2.1 email app. Now, how do I get a widget to show me the unread count?
Finally MS do something useful to their antiquated service!
Tried it, but doesn't work (yet)
Do you get an e-mail when your account is upgraded?
Guess that is cool if it works, but you can only have 1 Exchange Activesync account on any device...that includes iPhone, WinMo etc...
Has this stopped working for anyone? I'm just getting 'unable to connect to server' now.
Same here, getting the "Unable to open connection to server."-message now.
The wierd thing is that yesterday I got the little yellow bar up top in Hotmail telling me to restart the browser to try the new version (which is what actually got me to try this) but nothing really changed, rollback?

Technically true, but two Push accounts can be accomplished on both Android & WinMo(windows live + exchange)
For us with X10's who are stuck with version 1.6 of Android,
What are the settings to get this working in K9? Has anyone successfully got it working with that mail prog?
Thanks!
Still not working here. Go Microsoft
Small update:
My Hotmail account was upgraded to Wave 4 this morning... Hotmail via Exchange? Still no go. It worked for about an hour back on 17th June, and nothing since.
Well it's all working again now
so its real push service?
if yes i need try this
i wa susing SEVEN but lack of html =(
Yes, it's proper push.
Is there is no support for PUSH email through IMAP on the stock mail app ? I've been using K9 and while K9 works great, the UI on the mail app looks more pleasing and easier to navigate than K9. I'd like to migrate my work email to it, but only if I can get push.
I'm leaning towards its not possible through IMAP because I couldn't find anything while in the settings, but it's worth a shot to ask.
Anyone know ?

The stock HTC mail app has always supported this, so I'd be very surprised if anything has changed. Sounds like you already have the IMAP setup within your e-mail account, so you just add a new account and choose "Other (POP3/IMAP)" from the options and enter your particulars. Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync is also supported.

Doesnt work. On K9 it works flawlessly. With the mail app it doesnt.
The ONLY thing it could be, is my understanding of what SmarySync does. I've tried varies combinations of peak and off peak. But there is no push option. Its either smart sync, or some interval (every 5mins, 30mins, 1h etc..). With smart sync enabledd, it takes minimum 5 mins before I get a notification that I have an email. lol...thats the most laziest 'push' ive ever seen if that is what htc is calling push email. lol
Anyone get a non Google and non Microsoft Exchange email account added with working push ?
bump
I'm not entirely sure if this has changed but it used to be that POP and IMAP were client-based protocols meaning that the client initiates the act of message retrieval and the server sends messages as they're requested. Push requires a server initiated connection or at least would have to have a way to ping the client to make sure it's still available. Hopefully someone who knows more will chime in to confirm this or correct me where I'm wrong...

Far as I know, push doesn't work with the stock mail app. Smartsync just extends the sync interval when you don't use the mail app for a while.
