Okay I did not realize something so basic can be so hard long story short I copied over an EXE to Program Files and want a shortcut for it on the Start Menu on my ATT Tilt. I understand in XP using activesync this is no problem just sync it and right click the exe make shortcut then move it and rename it. However I am on vista and Windows Mobility Device Center offers me no create shortcut nor does it all me to access the Windows directory (not as big of a deal since Total Commander on the phone lets me). Anyways does anyone know how I can create a shortcut?
P.S. dont flame me about not searching or whatever I did not see a similiar post and if you know how just post it. Thanks.
Sorry
Found the option in Total Commander...nevermind...

After long last, I have a new laptop and a new Kaiser. Had to get rid of the 8525 since I could get such a hell of a deal on it.
It's been a few months since I had been on the forum because of the laptop issues, but now I have Vista (blah) and things are a bit different. But luckily, I have voided the warranty w/in 5 hours of having my phone.
Glad to be back, but couldn't find any threads that answered my question.
Does anyone know how to access the Windows directory on the mobile device via Vista Windows Explorer??
I am trying to copy some .png files over to the windows directory to replace the HTC HOME items, but it won't let me on the old desktop I had so I was just going to stick with the laptop and mess with my phone through that. The old Hermes thread said I could just transfer files like welcomehead.96 over to the directory to overwrite, but I keep getting errors.
Can anyone direct me? or PM some answers? Thanks
In Windows, choose TOOLS, Folder Options, View and then uncheck "Hide protected operating system files"
You are getting errors when trying to overwrite the files because they are in the rom. Vista's built in system file protection will not allow the files to be overwritten. Your best bet is to copy the files to My Documents on the phone, and then use Total Commander to move them into the Windows directory.
ahh.. i did not know they are built into roms now... thanks
Im trying to figure out how to make a shortcut in windows mobile 6.1... My device is loaded with them... just cant figure out how to create one.
Never Mind got it although its a complicated affair of copying a shortcut on my Kaiser to my windows desktop and editing the location in notepad
This might be a tad easier friend.
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms838634.aspx
It says WM2002 but its the same universally
1. Use activesync
2. Browse from "My Computer" to the mobile device
3. Right click an app/file and select "Create Shortcut"
4. Cut the shortcut and move it anywhere you would like by pasting it
Not that bad really
another possible way is it to use total commander, a freeware file manager for your mobile that allows you to create shortcuts

I know at least one of you have installed a program before on your Kaiser/Smartphone that wasn't able to be found in the "Remove Programs" option under settings.
I'm havin' this problem with a program called "TopOCR-Mobile LE."
It was an .exe file that had to be installed on the device. So I did, and now I can't seem to remove it. I deleted the .exe under program files, but the blank icons still remain (there's two of them 'cause I thought I could be smart and run the .exe twice and it'd ask if I would want to remove the program; it didn't - instead it just installed it TWICE).
Is there a way to remove those icons? I already used Regedit's and Total Commander's search features, but I couldn't find any files with the name "topocr" or "mtopocr" (it's installation name).
What are my options (besides throwing my Kaiser against the wall or hard resetting)?
Have you tryed to remove via active sync tools? If not in add remove programs and you think you got rid of it then go to Start Menu\Programs with Total Commander and delete the .lnk's
You could also look under HKLM\Software & HKu\Software to see if any REG left over.
Please be careful as we all know how the REG can be a dangerous place
If the icon you are speaking of is a shortcut under the Start Menu, or under Programs, then just browse to \Windows\Start Menu or \Windows\Start Menu\Programs and delete that .lnk file like stylez said.
Thanks guys. Removing the .lnk files got rid of it.
how do i access the windows folder in winmo through windows 7? it just keeps takeing me to Computer\Fuze\\ but i need access to fuze\windows\start menu folder. in xp it was easy to mod but dumb windows 7 wont let me get there and google isnt much help either lol
use total commander on win7 and use the winCE plugin then it works fine
some people report that it works if one set windows to show hidden files some people say it don't help
"some people report that it works if one set windows to show hidden files some people say it don't help"
that might work for some phones but it dosent with the ralph (maybe some custom roms)
anyway ty ill try that its just dumb to block it because i like a custom task bar lol that and im useing UTB android and i dont want to go to the file manager all the time to activate it
I can access my Windows Folder from Windows 7 if I have Windows Mobile Device Center installed.

It works without total commander!
You just need to turn off in folder options "Hide protected operating system files"!!!
And that's it, the only thing is that after that, in my case, to open windows folder takes about a minute.... but it works!
Well, just when i think I have things figured out. If a cab is right for my phone, how do I get it onto the phone. Can I do it by the USB hooking it up to my Desktop and then copy and paste into the phone from the desktop? How do I then look at the phone and see if that cab is really there and launch it??
I have a file that tells me it's a CAB file to launch the BTAG that activates the Bluetooth settings and Voice Mail 1.6. It is from a cooked ROM and I only want this one CAB....
Thanks

Just put the .cab in intern memory or your storage card. Launch it (by clicking on it) via File Explorer.

hmm, the question is ok but not as a new thread, not in dev; how about general - newbies questions?
I really do hope that you don't make it a habit of yours starting new threads for every single question you have, urgent or not
thx for helping him
to finalize: use disk drive mode to get it to your phone via usb (activesync might lead to data conversion), you are able to select the target folder, disconnect, open a file explorer, navigate to your dir containing the cab and click/double click it for installation
depending on the cab it will either be installed (to device mem) or you will be asked where to install it (device mem or sd)
done and best
