Is there a way that the back hardware button can be assigned to realy close a program? (the same as SPB Pocket Plus can do)

I use AE Button Plus and mapped the "Back" key to the function "Close active application" - works very nicely and that way there's always loads of free memory available.
Great, Thank you

I use version 2.6.1 (only because I've had it for a while and never bothered looking for an update if there is one). The key I re-assigned is the OK Key (second one on the list) and I assigned it to the "Close active application" function.

Hi,
The OK button at the side of the device is not "connected" to the OK button on the face of the device.
I was wondering if anyone knows how to remap the side-ok button to do something else.
I would love to know the same.
The killer app for this button for me would be as a 'back' button for pocket IE, which means it'd hit the left soft button.

Well then, how about WITH third party programs? AE Button Plus can't do it. What other ones can?
The side "ok" button is a tough one because it has multiple functions. In programs, explorer windows, and settings it acts as an OK button but when you're at the today screen it acts as a Start Menu button. I kinda get the feeling we're not going to be able to change this for a while. Not until someone releases a keymapper specifically for the Kaiser.
Whats wrong with the ok button?
its like an alt-tab to the today screen! so awesome.
even with the 8525 nobody has been able to re-map the ok button...it's still the biggest mystery, hehe....but now that they eliminated one button on the Tilt we really do need the ability to remap the ok button now...
I didn't have much luck remapping the OK button either. In AE Button it sort of maps to the Windows button, and I was able to change it...but never was able to get everything else working right after that and had to put it back.
I don't know the kaiser, but isn't Hbutton a solution for remapping hardware-keys ? On my Artemis i'm very happy with it...
Hbutton does not work on Tilt. especially setting it up

For me AE Buttons Plus did work. Then I wrote a MortScript to have the button act as a back button only in PIE:

Hope this helps.

now i got an kaiser and using hbutton of course - working very well, mapped "OK/Close" and CommManager to the ok button and no issues.
Hbutton is one of the best ppc apps imo.
edit - damn - i remaped the front ok button - the side ok button can't be remaped with hbutton afaik.....sorry, my mistake...
I have the side OK button remapped in spb pocket plus v4 under the buttons menu in settings and the only thing you have to do is take focus off the start menu then it works as expected.

Hi all,
Anyone can help to remap the hard button??
I want to change the Home key to Alt-tab, and the Back key change to OK/Close (1 press for ok and long press for real close the application). I have tried AE button plus, but not function very well.
Attached is the Alt-tab s/w i have used.
Don't know why HTC put a Home and Back key in WM pro device
Thank you very much,
did you reset the device after you changed the settings?
yes, but still doesn't work
There's a software called Hbutton. You might wanna try it.
Just tried Hbutton, but it doesn't work on diamond.........
Awww.. now how am I gonna survive on the diamond without Hbutton?!
There's another software called SmartSkeys (or something oike that) Not sure of it'll work.
Anyone got any suggestions on which software to use to map diamond buttons to many functionalities?
This one works on Diamond: AE Button Plus.
To my understanding from testing AEButton on the Diamond, I have realized that:
The HOME key cannot be remapped.
The Back key is essentially a "WIN" key. You can create a new button and remap the Back key. HOWEVER, the shortcuts DOES NOT WORK when you are at today screen. So here is what I do, I remapped the Back key single click to "Escape". double click to close program, long click to close all programs.
Thats the only logical thing i can think about using the back button due to the limitations.
Any ideas?
Escape = ok/close ?
With AEB Plus I managed to map "action long" to "task manager", but the setting doesn't seem to survive a soft reset.
Problem with TouchFLO 3D.
Disable TouchFLO 3D, you might map home/ok button by mappingware.
Setting -> Personal -> Today -> Items
Use SortInchKey, if you enable TouchFLO, you might map VolUp/VolDown/Ok(exclude Today screen) buttons.
Tried AE Button Plus 2.6.3, the "ok" button in AE Button Plus list can refer to back key, my setting is press 1 to minimize, long press to close current application. However, AE Button Plus can't handle the Home button. I already sent a request to them, hope their next version can sort it out.
I'm posting here to find this later. I use AEB on all my devices and want a Diamond. Hopefully it gets "worked out".

Yes, the mappings worked when TouchFLO was disabled. But when TouchFLO was enabled again, the mappings then didn't work.
Can someone please help me?
I use a golf GPS/Scoring program on my diamond (mobile golf scorer) and on it there is an option to use hardware button to turn display on/off, this keeps the gps active permantly. Its mapped in the program as 'button c' which from what i can tell should be the 'right hardware button' on a usual ppc.
I'm trying to map it as 'back button' using AEBPlus but it will only work on the main diamond screen or 'today' screen. I've tried mapping it to various buttons on the diamond but When i start the golf program it does not work.
Has anyone any ideas? I need to remap a button that will turn the display off no matter what i'm running.
Thanks again
I'd love to change the function of the "Back Button" aswell,
it has been annoying me since the first day I got it.
HButton seemed very promising, but sadly, it doesn't work.
Do hardware keys also have a registry number like the softkeys?
Like 112/113 for the softkeys?
Wondering anyone will use "Home" and "Back" button regularly....Maybe u guys can share your experience on how to smartly use this 2 buttons as I don't have any idea.........
Hello everyone!
This topic is very actual especially on all russian forums (hpc.ru 4pda.ru 4pda.info). Did anyone overcomed this difficulty with remapping hardware buttons? I tryed AEButton Plus but I was unsuccessfull in remapping the dimaond's "back" button - is there any one who did it? Please share the experience - it would be very very usefull to remap this button and to bind it to launching Dynamo3 task manager.
Thanks in advance.
ILya.
None of the programs named here work correctly on the Diamond, including AE Buttons Plus.
However, these buttons CAN be mapped. I know that because the capacitive buttons tester program can detect and show that you pressed these buttons. While this program is active, if you press the home key, it shows that you pressed the home key, but you don't go to the home screen. So it's possible, but only HTC knows how. We need their API's.

so this method willn't work too? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=355141
the silly part on the htc side is to have 3 of 4 hw buttons do almost the same - if you are in an application, pressing home, back or hang-up button will act as "escape". am i wrong?
for one thing, it would be at least useful to have an "ok" button.
the ideal setup for me would be to use the "go to the tf3d home tab" function of the home key by pressing the "hang-up" button and use the home key as "ok"...
Hi folks,
with my Magician I used to remap a Hardwarebutton (Camera preferred) for Voice Command. Now on the Diamond ALL entries in the corresponding Menu disappered! The Progamentries in menu #2. are still there, but no buttons in list #1.
Does anybody know why? Hard- and Softresets make no difference.

AFAIK, the Diamond has only one configurable button. The Long Press Send Key (as in, the call key) is the only thing that can be changed... (and that may be disabled on some devices)
Which button do you use for MSVC
Thanks for the answer, but which button do you use for MSVC?
Actually if you are using a button remapping program, for example i'm using spb pocket plus', you can also remap the ok (hold) button too.
so a total of 2 remappable buttons for diamond only

I personally don't... It may be possible to redirect the long press keys to things (long press end goes through a shortcut in \Windows)
you can use ae button plus
With this you can remmap all the buttons + volume bauttons + many more.

How do you get aeb to work while running another program? I can only get it to work on the today screen?
Thanks! now I use AE Button und remapped the long pressed "Volume up" to MSVC. Works perfect!
Hello,
Could you confirm that only the "Call" (hold) button can be customized ? (via the out of the box settings, buttons)
Did somebody manage to customize the "OK" button (hold) ? that would work from any application ?
Thanks

Did you try that one?
With my firmware the only available button I have on the list is the call button (Button 1).
The second button is hardcoded to lock phone.
And there is not way to associate anything to any other button.
C'mon HTC, this is SICK!
Ciao,
Davide.
The second button can be assigned other functions like Data connection termination, airplane mode etc
Start - Settings - System
Long Press End Key Icon
Anyone know if AEButtons will work on the Diamond? I have used it on virtually every device I own including my touch. Waiting for a US Diamond.

It works, but you can't customize the new Back Key.
How about Hbutton? It works great on my Diamond and you can assign different programs to the Call ( hold) button at the same time.

Yes, but only to the call button. With this phone is just like you have two buttons when you really have 9 more but you can't customize them!

That's funny because I just did.
I set the "OK key" (in AEBPlus) this way:
1: Close active application
Long: "Coreplayer"
Now that dreaded back key actually closes the running program!
On the MDA compact 4 you cant even configure the call button!
I'm using Spb Pocket plus 4.02 TF3D and the taskmanager turned off
(using SPB Shell)
OK button = close
I think it's better then AE button plus, it doesn't support ok/close together.
So with SPB pocket plus you can make an appointment and push the back button to save and close the appointment

It works but with some bugs. No problem al all when TF 3D is not active as today plugin, you can configure every hard button to whatever behaviour you like. But when TF active strange things happen:
Red (hang) button, enter (circled one) and volume buttons always work in simple, double, triple and hold pressing.
Home button and return only work when you are not in home screen or if an app has been launched. Also they work if you are in home screen but after pressing start and the menu is showed.
Weird, don't you think?

Confirmed.
The best thing for MDA Compact IV is to reassign the 2nd Softbutton in the registry to VoiceCommand, make your own HButtons for WiFi-toggle e.g. and rename them.
My Perfect solution.

Sometimes it is hard to press/touch accurately the small X or Ok button in the upper right corner. Is it possible to assign a HW button to it?
would be good to have the back HW button work as the x button!

The button with the arrow left on your diamond actually does exactly what you want.
The only program that comes close to assigning any Diamond hardware key to anything is ae buttons plus, so try that.

Yup. I used to use AE Button Plus when I first got my Diamond and had the (backarrow) key mapped to the Close Application function (as in terminate not minimise). Used to work well for me but then I stopped- you don't really need more than the original function of backarrow (minimise), what with all the performance enhancements the custom ROMs bring about.
yeah...that's what the back button does...the one with the left pointing arrow! it's an OK-cum-Back button...
it works for minimising/closing programs too
