PocketCM on Diamond? - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV General

Hi all,
I have happily been using my HTC Touch with PocketCM as my primary contact manager for just over a year. I find this piece of software excellent and very complementary to the Touch's interface, making the handling of my 500+ business contacts a breaze. I also recently went through an exercise of adding pictures (via Outlook) to roughly half of my contacts (combination of a dump from a corporate database and facebook!) and again the results when using PocketCM on the Touch look really good.
Having received my much anticipated Touch Diamond and sync'd it up with my contacts I explored the built-in and updated WM6.1 contact manager. My own personal view is that it's much improved and certainly borrows a number of PocketCM's innovations, however for my own personal use and usability still falls short of the mark. In particular I don't find its touch-scrolling as smooth, certainly isn't as quick when selecting a particular contact (nor as eye-pleasing!) as well as there being no option to have contact pictures on the index.
I therefore installed the latest version of PocketCM, however haven't been having much success with it. I previously was using either the default "Dream" or "Touch" skins, however on the Diamond they seem to corrupt the display. By setting it to the "Black" skin and resetting it seems to fix the display issues, however I find it almost impossible to actually select a contact. Scrolling works fine, however when you go to select a contact it is as if it is too sensitive and instead does a tiny scroll up/down - it takes great precision (either on a desk or using a stylus or some luck!) to actually select one.
Also, while if I select "Contacts" from the WM6.1 interface PocketCM is launched (as is desired - PocketCM being a replacement for the primary contact manager, however from within PocketCM you can indeed launch the native WM6.1 Contact Manager if desired), however the "All People" option on the TouchFlow3D People Tab still launches the native WM6.1 contact manager and not PocketCM.
Has anyone else tried PocketCM on their Diamond and would like to help me with and/or comment on any of the above? Much appreciated in advance!

On the same boat, any word on it yet?

Hi Simon,
1- How to have TF3D to launch PocketCM instead of standard PIM ?
For this use SSMA from this post [APP][Update 20/7/2008] SSMaPa (Alpha) 0.2.2 (20/7/2008)
2- Where to find VGA themes for PocketCM ?
See my post here: [SKN][UPDATED 26/10/2008] PocketCM VGA skins for Diamond
or go to PocketCM website where I uploaded VGA skins http://www.pocketcm.com/theme.php?application=1
Have fun.

Yes, there is. Use the search option and you will find it.
I like iContact there is also PocketCM (I believe that's it). Try a search for those.
finger friendly friends is a good stuff, the best i have used so far
I don't know the PocketCM app exactly, but it hardly can be better than the finger friendly friends... best pocket app I've ever seen.
You can also use the HTC RandomAccess cab (this scroll by letters), look at the Cab Collection (sticky thread).
But definitely +1 for FFF, it rocks !
Yeah, I forgot about this. I currently still have a Hermes (with a radio that only works sometimes) and am looking to get a Kaiser soon. FingerFriendy Friends does look like a winner...
FFF looks really good, the advantage with PcoketCM is that it includes other functionality such as threaded SMS that works really well
You can also download an ipohone skin for version 0.15 that looks good
For me it is the best all rounder that I have used to date
Paul
PocketCM version .15 is great, has a lot of functionality and many skins to choose from. You can get it here: http://www.pocketcm.com
Version .16 (development version) is a total rewrite of the skinning mechanism, so wait until this gets fleshed out more before upgrading to it.
I now have both.In my opinion they both excel in different ways The perfect combo for me would be the functionality of the keyboard in fff with the presentation of Pocket CM i.e when listing contacts the ability to show photos and it's own messaging gui rather than the stock wm6 one.

best contact manager program?

I'm looking for a good contacts manager. Something that is easy to use, esp with the finger. What are some of the more popular ones?
I'm currently using icontact and find it not exact enough (the letters are too small for my finger)
Thanks
pocketcm, fff

Im using Vito Fun Contact.
It's perfect!
you could also look at Icontact, easy to use, even when driving....
i tired all and finally found that Inesoft Address Book 3 as the best one.
- Big keys, easy to search , good easy acess buttons, ringtone selector and profile setting, option for full screen caller id and so on...
Very stable.
Go for it and u wont repent
iContact 0.6. Very light and fast on your system and professional looking. Best of all, its free!
I second. iContact 0.6 is the best.
I've been using: Vito Fun Contact, Inesoft Address Book, Finger Friendly Friends, Pocket CM, photo contacts and still like iContacts more. My second favorite is FFF, but it's not free.
i prefer fun contact, most finger friendly for me. only thing i don't like is the loadtime with the stupid splash screen i already know it works with all languages i don't need to be reminded every time i want to call someone.
Guys is there an app that will allow you to manage your contacts from your PC?
I find it a lot easier to mess about with details on the PC than on the PDA......I've already found Dashwire but is there something else out there?
Thanks
You can manage your Contacts in Microsoft Outlook, and then just synchronize your phone with computer.
Finger Friendly Friends is what i am currently using and its great. iContact is very neat too...
I contact 0.6 is great, as it seems that its faster than Icontact 0.73 and when u close it, it closes, unlike 0.73 which you have to close from task manager.
Give it a try
I vote pocketCM - it's brilliant. With the MH-HTC v2.3 theme it looks the nads too
FFF by far
iconntact is not like the iphones contact thing at all...it has a blackbackround where the iphones is what and much easier to see..but the finger scrolling on it is very good...what is the newest version of icontacts , and is there a white version of it?

Its not like Iphone thingy, as far I know It only comes in black.icontacts new version is 0.73, but its slower than 0.60. and its got no close button. In fact they released 0.71 which had no keyboard to jump at contacts, but with 0.73 which was released within days after 0.71, they got keyboard back, but still no X.
iContact all the way

Manila 2d and iContact

Hello, i just installed update 20 of manila and noticed that the standard contact manager is kind of glitchy, I can scroll through the contacts but every so often the OS will think im holding down over a contact and begin doing the green light pinwheel and glitch out. This was pissing me off so I decided to install iContact after using it on my co workers Kaiser. Ive notice when pressing the all people softkey that it will not open my contacts in iContacts but the standard contact manager. This is extremely frustrating and am wondering if anybody knew how to set iContacts as the default contact manager and or if there was a specific version of iContact that resolved this issue.
i have installed iContact while using several different ROMS w/ M2D cooked in and it always plays well w/ M2D. I do always install it from using CRC's Device Update, tho...not sure if that installation process does anything different that the standard .cab install.
What version of iContact are you using?
Hi, these two cabs will do the job.
One is for map contacts to outlook, and the other to map to iContact.
I can't remember from whom i get it (Of course in this forum ), but it was on the days of my now RIP Hermes.
i use icontact burt edition 6.4.5 and i think its the best version of icontact out there...

A good replacement for iContact?

The default contacts screen on the Fuze is "ok", but just not iContact. I did install iContact, but it displays VERY tiny contacts. Is there a good replacement out there? What I really liked was the pop out alpha pad as opposed to the alphabet down the side.
Any suggestions? Thanks!

Helps to know what version of iContact you used.
I haven't had any issues with "tiny" contacts when using iContact.
Are you using the original, Avian, trubert, or Supbro?

Agreed. iContact is great aside from MINOR nitpicks
hey all~
two other free contact managers come to my mind....
1.pocket contact manager (they also have a touch screen keyboard)
2. yota contact manager
for either one of them make sure you get the vga version (as opposed to qvga or wvga)
i prefer yota as it seems to run smoother and with pcm, after u make a call or check a number it didn't usually fully close. it kept running inthe background and before i could reopen it i'd have to force it to close via the task manager (with a confirmation prompt)

TF3D and Mobile Shell

I keep going back and forth between the two on my Imagio, but I think once we get TF3D 2.5 I'll be able to stick with HTC's software. Question is: Will the Imagio handle it well?
BTW thanks for the resource here!
me too, I have been going back in forth between the current touchflo version on the Imagio and SPB Mobile Shell.
Has anyone come up with a tweak yet for touch flo 3d 2.5 for the Imagio.
SPB MS 3.5 for me
I have been playing with TouchFlo since the first version on the HTC Touch and it is just too much work. I downloaded MS3.5 and I couldn't be happier. It takes up fewer resources and the customization is as easy as dragging and dropping. I use the leisure theme with a five panel widget home screen. You can add picture frames as widgets among other cool items. The contact management is integrated with Facebook automatically and the smart dial is awesome. If I decide I want to do custom icons later, I can get as deep into the xml component as I want.

See, now, I get the whole "pretty" thing with this shell, but I found it to be just too confusing because it has a lot of redundancies. On the other hand, TouchFlo by HTC is really powerful, but it needs more "clues" to find all of its functionality. Idunno..I just wish we could get this thing hspl unlocked so that the gurus can start cooking up some new roms..
TF3D does not work for me. I need to quickly check email and delete tehm on the fly and access many parts of the phone. Why cant we load the new Sense UIon the Imagio. MS 3.5 is great but the contacts and dialer are badly broken. I cant search for contacts easily by typing parts of the name (only searches file as field) and from the dialer screen you cannot get into the details of a contact to E.G. select an alternate number to dial.
I have been trying both on my new imagio, and am currently sticking with SPBMS3.5. The main reason is that for some reason, the text messaging interface with TF3D messes up my ability to rotate to landscape when replying to a message. I am not sure why...
I have hard reset, and it works for a short period of time, because it seems to be using the standard Winmo texting interface. After receiving a message from a contact, the interface seems to switch to a custom TF3D version, and I can no longer use the landscape keyboard.
Plus I like that I can have virtually all the things I need on a sweetly configured main screen at one tap.
My two cents...
Gary
The folks over at PPCGeeks have unlocked the Imagio! And there are a number of ROMs already ready for flashing. As for TF3D and Mobile Shell, I have found no issues with TF, and with the new Cookies home tabs, its even easier for me. I tried that mobile shell, and there were too many reduntant applications, and by the time I got what I wanted set up, it was several pages between what I really needed and what I needed to go through. That, and after a couple days, my phone started to really get buggy. I finally gave up and went back to TF.
Now, that was before flashing to an Energy ROM. Things are much better now! Check out PPCGeeks HTC Imagio section, several ROMS there waiting for you!
You know I just saw those this weekend and they look very promising! Especially the MaxManilla on the horizon. I am not sure whether to go with Manilla or Cookies...Any thoughts?
As for the TF3D and texting, I did some googling and found the fix. Sorry, but I can't remember, but I think it was on PPCGeeks. Had to add some manilla reg values and change one other and voila! It works now. Still not sure if I like TF3D better than SPB, but I am giving it a shot. What I do like is that SPB can have multiple weather cities. I don't think that I like the 3D mail reader on either app.
Thanks again for the tips.
Gary
