thanks very much
very nice.
I am enjoying streaming goodness.
You have to download Flash in order for it to work.
You can also use vtap.com - has a rich client download that make searching and watching sweet.

add one more happy vtap user to the list. i just decided to try it because of this thread and its pretty cool for what it does. and we have access to all of youtube as opposed to the iPhone users. sure, they may have the better interface, but i'll take the larger library
Vtap is great!! The only problem I have is, on the site, it shows a view of the desired video like the youtube site would show but when inside the application, it only has a decriptions without a picture. Is this how it is for the Tilt version?

Me neither. I verified file associations within TCPMP. Notably, there's no 'Video Sites' shortcut in Programs.
Because in ATT ROM, real player is the default player for the PIE and it doesn't support youtube. since i flashed my tilt with HTC stock ROM, the default player is "streaming video" app which plays youtube video with no problem. i think there should be a way to change the default player in registery.
hm vtap is nice if it has what you are looking for, but i just did a search for a video that i had uploaded to youtube and it did not find it.

Just go to youtube.com on your cell, it will open "mobile youtube."
on the bottom of the page, click "classic view"
once there it should work with tcmd...
I installed the cab from this thread on my tilt and it worked. I can now stream videos from the m.youtube.com site.
Here is the thread

You're all forgetting to add that it also picks up videos from other sites, like MetaCafe, Google and Yahoo! Video and many others. Plus Wikipedia on the vTap just murks (that's "murder" for the ones not in the know) every other application or dictionary that tries to give us a mobile version of it on WM phones.
But the good thing is that the FlashVideoBundle works well also, just in case you prefered not to use a separate application...
i have vtap installed but i rather use regular youtube.
vtap and mtube lower the quality of the videos
can someone pls post the vFlashVideoBundle.CAB in this thread so I dont have to reg at that site. thanks!
Check out this site to watch Youtube videos (and other videos from around the net). I have tried programs to make Youtube work, but it won't. I found this search site which I can finally watch videos. Does any one else Know any sites where you can do this?
The mobile site is at m.vtap.com (they have a regular web based site at vtap.com too).

What build of Opera 9.5 do you have? I have build 1957 and flashlite 3.1 and it doesn't seem to work on youtube. Thanks.
My Tilt plays youtube videos just fine, and on the regular website, not the mobile one.
I use PIE, have TCPMP with the flash media bundle installed within TCPMP's directory.
When I click on a video, TCPMP asks to play or save the videos... and it works perfectly. My Tilt came with the offical 6.1, I hard reset the ROM and got rid of the bloatware. It's easy.
I wonder if m.vtap.com works with my setup?

I'm using the same version it's the one ripped from Omnia. Hmm that's strange i've tried it on two seperate roms and it have worked. Did yougo through the thread on Flashlite 3.1 I'm sure you will find some answers there or try it out on clean rom.

I've just tried a app. called Fewidget it needed flash player 7 to work. After installing FP 7 youtube stopped working on Opera. Even uninstallation of Flash Player 7 didn't help. I had to soft reset to get it working again...so maybe you have or had flash player 7 installed on your phone?
Ok so I've read and searched all that I could and still cannot find a work around to get FLV's to play on my Diamond....
Can someone tell me if this has been done yet? I can't beleive that a device as comprehensive as the Diamond cannot handle a silly FLV codec!

Well i just used the search feature and guess wht i found!!!!! chk the link out
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=380387
Well anyway here is the direct link for you to download: TCPMP-0.72RC1-ARM-PPC-recomp-03.CAB.zip
ahh yes and this plays all FLV's does it? It looks like it only plays FLV1's and not FLV4's that are most commonly used now...
fwiw I already had that version of tcpmp beofore asking this question - but it would seem that the FLV support doesnt work with the Diamond.
My search also showed me that someone else said they had this problem as well - hence why i asked the question...

Well it's gud then tht u searched this forum it's my bad anyway I also use FLV's on my diamond and I hve not cum across any problems so far!!!! it's works like a charm it is useful fer me cause I save most of the YouTube videos in FLV format and it works with no problems....
I will try a youtube flv and see if thats any different - so are you using JUST that Tcpmp cab or any other plugins?
Tht particular version of TCPMP has the built in FLV codec so it will start playing without u doin anythin
your very correct in the fact that it does play YOUTUBE FLV's - it looks like that its an issue with FLV1 and FLV4.
Never mind - I can work around it

that doesn't mean the transfer was perfect or that for some reason the g1 wont take it. there are other formats that it recognizes, so try another if you like

When you go to Youtube directly from your browser it pulls up the mobile version m.youtube.com
When you click a link through facebook- it takes you to the main site which does not work on the HD7 due to no flash.
its because facebook links to the desktop (www.) version of youtube, the youtube app adds support for the mobile (m.) version, when you click the facebook link you get directed to the desktop version as the app doesn't catch the link and redirect you to the mobile site.
You have to have both versions of the YouTube app installed. The version that came with the phone is what it tries to launch via links. The HTC version plays nicer quality vids.
So, I use the HTC version when I'm manually surfing YouTube, and the stock one installed so it will launch when I click a link.

except as pointed out by aaronhope1972 and myself the link catch doesn't work from 3rd party apps, which is what the OP was asking about. Personally I just wish they'd get flash ported and we'd not have this problem
Wow, had never tried that and just did.
Sucks.
Interestingly the People Hub Facebook integration part directs to m.youtube, which will subsequently work.
Thanks for the replies guys, much appreciated. Its a pity about that.

Yeah not MS at it's finest right there huh
If they'd only actually open a real dialogue with users about what we need from the phones
