i plan on getting guitar hero mobile but i was wondering how do i back it up incase i have to restore my phone?
You can just save the .cab (or .exe) installation file on your desktop pc....
Then remember to save your save game file from you ppc..
when i dl the game onto my phone doenst it automatically delete the cab file? if not where is it found?

Yes, it does..
You have to edit a reg key to not delete the .cab you installed.... (but at the moment I don't remember which one....)
But you can duplicate the .cab file, so you always will have a copy....
well i have no idea how to edit the registry or anything is there an easier way? will att charge me again if i have to dl it again?
If you download it again surely you'll pay again.....
Just copy the .cab file to your desktop pc, and there won't be problems in the future....
how do i copy it to my pc doesnt it auto install once i pay and dl it?
jbed settings
look 4 a setting in jbed options. I remember saw an option to not delete cab after installed.
this is all greek to me can i use kaisertweak to edit the registry or what do i need?
OK, found the option in Advanced Config under Miscellaneous | "Delete CAB file after install", set it to NO.

I have tried using several registry apps to successfully export [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\HTCHome\Launcher] belonging to a previous Hutch 3 ROM.
I now want to re import these keys into my newly installed Duttys 6.1.
How do I do this?
Scuse the newb question (duck for cover) but on a PC you tap the *.reg and it will import into the registry. On my Kaiser running Duttys 6.1 I have PHM_Regedit but Import option is greyed out.
A search did not resolve it so any help would be appreciated.

Install FdcSoft's Taskmanager (it has a built in Regedit), by DotFred. In there you can associate .reg files with it. Then just run them to import.
Great I'll grab it. Thanks Dave I really appreciate the help. I know you all get sick to death of our newb questions.

Dont worry. I spent 10 minutes trying to use PHM before I gave up.
Dot Fred's TaskManager is a kick ass task manager as well as a reg editor (amongst other stuff).
P.S. Easiest way to associate is: Open TaskMgr, tools, options, Create RegEit Shortcut. This will ask do you want to associate.
Cool I can see how to do all that now thanx.
Only hiccup is I can only run it from my Storage card. I cannot work out how to copy it to my \Windows folder. I cannot work out how to delete the existing basic taskmgr.exe that installed with Dutty's. I guess this is because it is a system file. If I try and copy and replace I get error message saying not possible. Whats the trick here?

Don't know. I just leave the exe in My Docs, and run it from the shortcuts.
Okay. Will do same. thanks..
Resco Explorer will also do it.
To dotfred from your SD Card, do this:
Place the .exe in you \Storage Card\Programs folder. With your desktop PC, navigate to \Windows Mobile Device\My Device\Storage Card\Programs & right click on the exe file. Select create shortcut. Move the shortcut to \Windows\Start Menu\Programs using desktop pc.
Voilla! you are done, go check Programs & it's there.
this is the steps i usually take when entering in a reg file. I use resco explorer for all this. I double click. Then I make sure I close resco through the menu exit and not the X button. Then I continue to play around with my phone for a while opening up menus and stuff. Then I soft reset. Doing these steps, I for sure get my stuff to work. There might be some unnecessary steps I take, but I end up with what I want. Many people have trouble keeping their registry stuff to stick. The steps I take, I never worry about that.

Thanks for the tip. Was not aware you could make shortcuts this way. Running from the card appeals because the .exe will still be there after reflashing a new ROM and I will only need to move/copy the shortcut. Being a newb I have been somewhat reluctant to run apps from the card but I am gathering that is is a quite an acceptable thing to do.
Is there a way to place registry keys inside a CAB so that they will get imported when the CAB is launched? Whilst the above DotFred association method works a treat for me with ".reg" files I would like to find a standalone method to import registry info. So that I can pass a single file to someone else and without any extra config they can import the contents into their registy.
definitely. There are a lot of cab creators where you can just enter in your reg key and will create your cab. Someone recommended me this program. I really like it.

Thanks for the link thomasster. Does the job well. Probaly an overkill (and therefore overpriced for what I need), but I got it to work OK. Also from using it, I learnt that the process simply converts the registry keys to provxml. So now I am looking to manaully create the "_setup.xml" and then use iexpress.exe in Vista to create the CABs.
Is there a way to undo changes made by import .reg file?
I imported a reg file using DotFredd's Taskmanager. Now I want to undo it? Is it possible? How?
Thanks

A CAB installation is just like a Desktop installation but on your phone... Transfer the CAB to you phone (I put all mine on the memory card), click on the CAB, then install app. Generally if you have a memory card, the CAB installation will give you the choice to install to the phone or card.

So I copy the folder to the card..Then I click the cab from the desktop or using the phone???
*tries it out now*
Thanks man for you input
On your storage card create a folder called "cabs". Then put the cabs you want to install on your phone in this folder. Then open up file explorer (on your phone) and go to the cabs folder. Then select the cab you want to install by pressing it on screen or with the hard down key. Your phone will start to install the cab and it will ask you where you want to install (either phone memory or your memory card), choose which one you want. Note that some programs work better when installed to the phone (read and you'll find out suggestions). After the installation is complete your phone will tell you that it was successful.

Unzip the folder on your computer and transfer the cab over into the "cab folder" on your memory card. Open file explorer on your phone, navigate to the "cab folder" on your memory card, select the cab to install and your done. No need to copy the whole folder to your phone, just the cab.

That is not a .cab I will attach a cab for you to try. I it is the transformers sliding cab. No need to unzip. Just download it to your computer and transfer it to your phone with either activesync or take out your memory card, stick it into your computer and put it in the folder you want. Let me know if it works.

Open activesync and conect your device. Make sure you have a green symbol and click explore which is to the right of schedule. It opens your device and navigate to your memory card and cab folder if you have one. Then on your computer right click on the cab you downloaded and select copy. Now go to the window you brought up when you hit explore and right click in the destination and select paste. Now you have the cab on your phone. Next, on your phone open file explorer and navigate to the folder where you just pasted the cab and select it.

+1!!!!!!!!
Do not uncompress (unzip or rar) cab file.
He is uncompressing the cab into a folder and transfering it. His compression software shows the cab as compressed.
Just transfer the cab uncompressed and click on it and it will install. I bet that does the trick.
Also, if you want you can change it so that your compression software doesn't see CABs. I use WinRAR and you can just uncheck it under options>settings>integration and just uncheck CAB.
... LOL?...
a .cab is the "installer file" in windows mobile.
Steps:
1. Copy the .cab file into your phone
2. Open the File explorer in your phone and look for the .cab File
3. Click on it
4. Choose the place where you want to install it
5. Enjoy your new program(or sliding sound or anything)

Thanks Batchell..However I was able to get my question answered by ANOTHER HELPFUL FORUM!!!!! I've only had my phone for 2 months and I DIDN'T know that you didn't have to unzip the files...I didn't have to worry about that stuff with a TREO... So to all that was helpful I really appreciate it..and the others with all of the slick jokes are bunch of assholes...yep I said it..Thats why I asked for a tutorial for cab installation smartass!!!!!!
This is a developer forum. If you ask a question here, it is assumed that you have a moderate level of computer literacy. This includes being able to unzip files.
Next time, please state you know NOTHING and people will give you the appropriate level of help.
Before others flame you even more for your last comment, I'm closing this thread for being inflammatory.
hi guys, im new here and got my diamond just yesterday.. its my first pocket pc, and i need real help..
looked around the forums and found a lot of good stuff..
downloaded a couple of applications like advanced configuration tools, gsen, registery editor, but i dont know how to install them. when i unzip the files on my pc the are in xml format and when i double click on the setup file it opens in notepad..
plz help me, what should i do? how do i install these applications?
Instead of unzipping the .cab files on your pc, you need to copy them to your diamond (using activesync or select 'disk drive' when you plug it in).
Then open file explorer on your diamond, navigate to where you copied the .cab file, and run it - .cab is an installer file for windows mobile applications

Do the following, hehe
When you download most programs they will be in .CAB format. Now all this means is that they can be installed DIRECT from the phone.
What I do is create a folder on my Diamond in Internal Storage called APPS and make sure my Diamond is synced to my pc / laptop using Activesync on XP or Windows Mobile Device centre if on Vista and then copy all the .CABS that i have downloaded into the APPS folder on my phone.
Once im ready to install the applications its very simple.
On your Diamond click on START and then PROGRAMS and locate FILE EXPLORER.
When FILE EXPLORER has loaded up in the top left of the window you will notice a memory card icon with the current directory you mobile is pointing to, push this and you will then see MY DEVICE and the location you are currently at.
If you have used a pc before its very similar to how the pc windows explorer used to navigate, anyway, select MY DEVICE and then choose INTERNAL STORAGE and then APPS.
Then its just a matter of selecting which application you wish to install as all the .CABS will be displayed. Select the one you want to install and follow the installation process.
If there are any small programs 1mb or less then I tend to install these onto my phone storage memory and for games I install them onto INTERNAL STORAGE but its up to you. Some programs require a SOFT RESET to work.
The SOFT RESET button is located where the STYLUS is stored on the phone, pull the STYLUS out and then you will see a RED BUTTON inside.
Push this and your phone will restart.
There is more information here at good ol xda-developers.com and also http://modmydiamond.info
Hope this helps!

thnx guys, but i know this, i did install some applications that end with caB, but when i tried to install the gsen or the advanced config for example, they didnt come in .CAB form. they came as zip and when i opened the file, all there was files and the one names setup was as xml.

Hello,
I just bought the new HTC Touch Diamond today from Telus Mobility (My Provider) and when I put on a program to install and try to open the .cab file in the File Explorer, it tries to open it in Opera Mobile and I cannot install the program.
I am using ActiveSync to transfer the files from my computer to the Internal Storage area of my phone, then I find the files using the File Explorer on the phone, click the .cab file and it tries to open it in Opera Mobile.
Anyone have any ideas?
P.S. I just tried a Soft Reset, and that didn't help.
Thanks in advance!!
Try to manually rename the files to "whatever.CAB." Add .cab to it and see if that'll get it working.
Hmm..
Okay, I tried that and it didn't work.
I am trying to install a program and the files it has is:
_setup - XML Document (I click on that to activate install?)
ADVANC~1.000
ADVANC~1
ADVANC~1.003
ADVANC~1.004
ADVANC~2.002
Hope this helps..
(Yes, I realize it's not a cab file >.< )
After reviewing the situation over. You are NOT supposed to extract the files, then put them on your phone. Leave them in the archive (.cab file), upload to your phone and then execute it.
It should start installing right away.
Hope this helps for anyone else!!
I have this problem with Opera Mobile 9.5 where I try to download a cab file to install on my phone but it instead opens the cab file as text. There isn't a "Save file as" option in the menus so how can I download the cab file without opening it as text?
Type in opera:config and check through the settings, or you could reinstall.
Guys I am having this problem also and need to fix it.
The thing is when I type :config in Opera and try to log into settings nothing happens. Please how can I remove that **** Opera off my phone?????????
Need to install all the cabs that I need...
Any help would be appreciated, thanks
I have never had any problem downloading anything with Opera... Actually, I tend to try and use Opera to download with because it's download manager works so well.
It sounds like you have a setting off somewhere in your phone... probably with Opera, assuming you can download with IE just fine.
Also, you want to type in the address bar "opera:config" without the quotation marks, and that is where you will find the advanced settings that control downloads with Opera.
As well, maybe try downloading a different version of Opera? I like this one:
http://www.mediafire.com/file/ywydu3iczxn/WM6_PPC_HTC_Opera9-build_15954_WWE_QVGA.CAB
That is not what I mean.
I downloaded files throught my PC, hooked Omnia to it and copied the files to the phone's SDcard.
The cab files of all progs are "branded" Opera. meaning if you want to run them, they open through Opera and not execute style. Got it?

Ah, ok... I don't think that is the same problem they were having... I don't know what the solution to that would be, since a .cab file is an .exe file written to run a PPC, thus when you click on it, it should run itself without any other program opening it...
I would say try downloading the cab files directly on to your phone with the built in browser, save them to your memory card of course...
But if you are copying a .cab file on to your phone, and using file explorer to launch it, there is no reason it shouldn't work, it is a self executing file that doesn't look for a mother program to run it... Unless somehow you have managed to change them so that they try and open with Opera, either through your phone settings or properties of the cab itself type thing.
I think I have no choice but to disable or uninstall Opera in some way.
If someone can help me to do this, I think I can manage with the cab files then...
I don't think that will fix your problem. Those files will still be linked to Opera. And if Opera is part of your ROM, you can't uninstall it... actually even if you loaded it yourself, unless you did one of the uninstallable versions, it can't be uninstalled...
At this point, it would help if you gave more information:
What, if any mods, you have done to your phone?
What program did you use to copy the files to the SD card?
Where did you get the cab files?
Heck, what cab files are they?
These mods:
http://www.samsung-omnia.org/how-to/howwhatwherewhichwhywhen/
And the cab files are related to advanced configuration tools, Omnia patched dialler, SPB mobile shell and a couple others.
You might want to ask that forum for assitance? It looks like they are pretty dedicated to the Omnia, which most everyone here does not have one. This forum is for the HTC Kaiser specifically, and the site as a whole is dedicated to HTC devices. Perhaps post in the general section of this site, but I think you will have better luck with the omnia site you got all of your cabs from.
In general, without having screen shots, or hands on knowledge of the cab files you are trying to use, about all I can say(and anybody really) in this forum is that there is something corrupt with the .cab files or your file explorer is corrupted. I would bet the .cab files are corrupted, and that somewhere along the way you did something wrong. Maybe you skipped a step in the whole process, and Opera is coming up not because they are tagged to run through Opera, but because it is suggesting to search for something using your default browser.
It really is hard to say, but I would suggest asking that forum for some support. Also, I would flat out re-download all the cabs straight to your phone from the site, not your computer. This will make sure you don't have any issues with the sync process. As well, save them to the root of you SD card, in other words not in a folder.
Sometime i got this problem but it seem it happen when the page is not fully loaded
Do you open cab files through Opera?
Open link in new tab
Hi
I have also had this problem with opera version 9.5.16277. I have found a couple of work arounds:
1) Tap and hold on the link and then select "Open in new tab"
2) Tap and hold on the link and select "Copy link location". Then manually open a new tab and paste the address into the address bar.
I have found that if 1) above does not work 2) will.
Cheers
andrew-in-woking
Sometimes it's the website itself.
For example, for Josh's Test ROM, if we click directly (even on PC) on the link, it'll open the zip file on the page. I had to 'right-click' and 'save the link as' to save the file.
It might be some code on the page ..
Input the two .reg files to the registry, should just solve the problem. You can use any regiedit tools or taskmgr.exe or total command to do it. If don't know how, please search some info first.

The above is my answer to origional poster of this thread.
But since this thread is already goes to off-topic, I would also write my comments:
Opera opens compressed file as text on page, is a big bug for opera software, it happens to both its mobile and desktop vdersions. But latest releases of Opera Mobile seems have some progress on this issue, although still can not completely avoid it.
