Hi
Is there a task switcher software that allows to switch tasks by pressing a hardware key. I mean, that allows to map a hardware key so you can for example switch among taks by just pressing let's say the OK key?
I wonder if there is some solution so I don't have to go back all the time to the TODAY screem to the task drop down thing to switch programs, or that I dont have to open the SPB Mobile Shell task thing to do that.
Maybe is there also a task switcher software that could remain an icon on top of every application so it could be accessed quick as another quick solution to switch?
Thanks in advance for any help!
i use this little app for this. as usual, i don't know where i found it, so i'll just attach it here.
extract exe file to your device, create shortcut in start menu and then assign it to some hardware key
Hi antihrist
Thanks a lot for AltTab! I installed it already and its working nicely. It is great and light app. I also got info about VITO TaskSwitcher, wich comes included with VITO Buttonmapper installation. I'm testing it too and it looks good. Also a great sollution, and nice look, though not light as AltTap. So great I can switch now, it's time saving and so much confortable!
Again thanks for your help!
Try also the one attached here....

WkTask is the best task manager hands down... Launcher and other goods make it even better.
If you have Spb Pocket Plus, it also lets you assign a button to open task manager (the Spb TM). Then just tap on the app you want and bring it up. More steps then the AltTab app, but if you like to have many apps open, I find it better then cycling through them all.
I use pBar, lightweight easy to access from task bar and has lots of other useable goodies. And free

I want to know
How do it change function of left "OK" button?
Dynamo needs some developement as it's a bit thirsty but it's already my choice. Can be mapped to any button.
Check this link

Thanks to all!
Faviopac, thanks for the .cab file, I'll try WkTaskL too.
Guys, thanks a lot to all! Seems that I have now material to study and choose from. It's a fact that i did not know about aplications like this, till I felt the need and miss it and asked here. I got this HTC TyTN II since some months ago and was focused in other learnings since then and enjoying it. But was starting to miss this switching stuff, they are most have!
denco7, I'll have a look to pBar, thanks for the link! And, branball, will give a try to Dynamo, thanks! I'm glad I have more than I needed now, just have to choose... For the moment I definitely think that I'll go for the apps that display a list of open tasks where you can choose to bring it up, like the one gwnorth was telling about. I'm testing now, of that kind, TaskSwitcher 2.0 wich I found also as independent app (separated of Vito buttonmapper), it brings up also a list of open taks to choose from. I also will try the ones you posted here, wich I super appreciate.
Question appart: I am using Spb mobile shell, wich I find great and better everyday, what's the difference or adventage (if any) of Spb Pocket Plus vs Mobile shell, they are for similar uses at the end (?) I havent test Pocket plus...yet.

Is it possible to reconfigure the hardkeys that are set, by default to messaging and Internet Explorer?
Thanks.
Sure. You must read the manual that comes with the phone, but go to
Start > Settings > Personal > Buttons

Thanks, except (unless I'm either blind or stupid) there is no "personal" entry.
Personal is the Tab along the bottom of the screen. It should already be on personal, but might not be. Click it to be sure, and check your eyes when you can

But this is a smartphone, it doesn't have a tab at the bottom of the screen.
Ahh, my blindness! I apologise profusely.
I'm generally device agnostic, so didn't look at your device name: but I don't use Smartphones.
See if you can find a solution, if not, I'll write you a special app just to make up...

That's a relief, I was starting to think I was going ga-ga.
I'm also interested in a solution, I especially want to reconfigure the two buttons on the side (camera and voice dialing). I wasn't searching profoundly the internet for a solution yet, but also on Modaco and a Swiss board noone knew how solve this problem. So a solution would be highly appreciated
Doesn't AE Button Plus work on your devices?
V
Aha, interesting application, thanks for pointing out to it. Yes, it works, though it's a bit a "too powerful" solution (but better than nothing) - if there was a simple solution that doesn't require an application to run in the background then I'd prefer that...
I imagine there is. I haven't used a Smartphone since Orange E100, way way back. Are you sure there's no easy way?
If I was down and dirty, I'd set one button, export the registry, change it again, and export, and compare the two.
Isolate the registry function, and see if you can extend it.
It's possible certain hardware keys are "off limits", they are on the PocketPC. But I have code that might assist, but if you were using my code, I'd recommend AE Button Plus over it any day
V
One problem is that it doesn't seem to be possible to reconfigure a single one of the buttons via control panel. I saw a solution for the soft keys via registry (HKCU/Software/Microsoft/Home/Keys), but this solution doesn't work for the hard keys (or maybe I'm doing something wrong, happens a lot ). There seems to have been a solution for earlier Smartphones with "SHORT_xxx.lnk"/"LONG_xxx.lnk"-files that should be found in the Windows-directory, but this solution doesn't seem to work on WM5 any more. But I still haven't searched profoundly, so maybe I'll still find something.
is there now any better solution? i tried ae button plus, it runs on my mteor, but i can't map the keys. it says 'taste nicht verändern' / 'key not changeable'. it drives me crazy...
hello, is anything new about changing meaning of HW buttons? thanks
Short_home, Long_Home, Long_send, short_camera, long_camera, Short_record, Long_record, Short_VT, Long_VT, Short_POC, Long_POC
Best regards
But I cant find anything like this in Win directory... (WM6.1)...thanks
Guys I am sure some of you have come up with this program already but I thought posting a link to it since its free and works great with the Kaiser when you want to switch/open/close applications without pulling out the stylus.

Thanks - I haven't seen this before.
Your link is dead - looks right but goes to the wrong place. I got it with a copy/paste though.
I installed it and it gave the "this program may not display properly because it was designed for an older version of windows" thing. I downloaded the WM6 version and am running it on WM6.
The program did not appear in my Applications. It was not available to be assigned to a button either.
It was sitting there in the Program Files directory though, and I could run it from there.
Looks pretty good. I like the controls and everything - but its a bit disappointing that it doesn't pull the correct icon for every program and you have to do it manually. I don't see myself doing that - so if I'm going to use it I would use it with the default icons.
I think I like it and would probably use it if I can get it to assign to a button.

To be honest its only when its assigned to a button that you will see the benefits specially if its the PTT which is next to the wheel.
Funny you say that. I tried checking my buttons settings and now it doesnt show up on the list of applications however its still assigned to the PTT button so I dont want to mess with it lol in case I screw it up..
Have you tried re-installing it?
I agree with the Icons being a pain although we tend to use the same applications very often so it might not be too much of a hassle.
UPDATE
Its back on the list of my applications available. I have assigned it to button 6 PTT

Why dont you try the Camera Button?
Hey fellow Kaiser users,
I'm currently using the Tilt, with Dutty's touchflo rom. I have a few things that I was wondering whether or not can be done within the device. Can these be done? If so, how?
1. Setting TCPMP as default player within the HTC Home Plugin to be able to control the next and previous options from the home screen (assuming just using it for audio purposes) or use a skin on top of TCPMP that looks similar to that of HTC Audio Manager
2. Set S2U2 to startup with device so that you don't have to select it in order for it to run. If this is not possible, is there a way to change the items included in the quick launcher, so that S2U2 or some other program can replace some items included in the launcher?
That's all I can come up with right now, any help would be greatly appreciated.
Oh and by the way, Dutty, your custom ROM is awesome, glad I found it.
I can't help you with TCPMP but if you use a program like Battery status it will give you the ability to set up a tray launcher which will allow you to set up s2u2 there which is what I do along with some other apps. Heres a picture of it in the middle it gives you meters you can set up at the bottom is the tray launch.

For tcpmp, to set it as default, go to options>settings> slect page>file association> check all that you need. Exit the program. Reset the device. and you should be good to go.
I've set all the file associations within TCPMP, but this doesn't set it within the HTC Homepage Plugin and allow you to control it from the homepage. If I could get this to work, it would be awesome, but it may not be possible. If that's the case I guess I'll just have to use TCPMP's not-very-aesthetically pleasing interface. . But I can deal with it, it works, so I guess that's good enough.
The HTC Home plugin only works with Windows Media Player or HTC Audio Manager.
S2U2 loads up fine for me after a soft reset. It can be selected to be used in the Home Plugin in the normal way or assigned to a hardware button or soft key.
For some reason mine doesn't automatically load after a soft reset, I have to either launch the configuration tool or the application itself in order to use it. Does anyone happen to know if there is a way to, or exist a theme similar to the appearance of the HTC Audio Manager?
Thanks for all your help everyone!

You should be able to set it to come on by defult with "S2U2 Setting" (most likely found in your "system Tools" folder). Make sure you have the faollowing set to ON:
-Start on wake up
-Start on backlit off
then click:
-Save
-Yes
That should do it.
First, I would like to begin by saying I have tried searching on both Google, and using the forum search provided here. If I missed something, please lead me in the right direction.
I have an HTC Touch Diamond in Canada from Telus. I have had it for about a month, and I must admit, it's beautiful! Anyways, I was flipping over to my Programs tab, and decided I was going to add a program to one of the tabs. I flicked up, and up came the next 9 "+" icons. (total of 18 icons, correct?). So I add the application to the icon, and it returns me to the programs tab. I scroll down, and what's this? I have an extra "+" tab (Total of 19 now). Each time after adding an application, another appears. Now, you might think this could be cool, and useful, but first off, you can't add any program shortcuts to these extra "+" icons... if you click on them, it comes up with the Add Program thing, and if you click on it, it returns to the program's tab, without the program. Secondly, they cannot be removed. If you delete one of the Program shortcuts that you added, the extra one does not be removed. It just stays there, and its quite annoying.
After playing around with the TouchFlo 3d for some time, it seemed to fix itself for a little bit, but as soon as I tried to add a shortcut, they added themselves again. A soft reset does not solve, and I really don't want to do a hard reset. I have .NET framework 3.5 installed, and I have installed a few applications (only after reading reviews, mostly coming from these forums, other than google maps). I have ROM version: 1.06.661.1.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Hind1

Easy fix. You need to delete a few registry keys.
Goto HKLM-->software-->HTC-->Manilla-->ProgramLauncher
You should only have number 0-17 (total 18). Delete anything greater than that e.g. 18, 19 etc.
Thanks for the quick reply!!
Worked perfectly. Awesome.
Thanks,
Hind1
Glad that's sorted my friend.
What a lot of people would want to know though, is there a way to actually add the extra icons and use them? It seems by editing the registry you can add as many as you want, but it seems to be impossible to use them. Being able to have more programs on this tab would be very useful!
Hmm... I never thought of that!
I'm sure it wouldn't be all that hard... I am not really a wiz with windows mobile, as I just picked this phone up about a month ago (my first windows mobile device owned), so I probably won't be able to figure it out, but if there's anybody who wants to try, that would be awesome!
I'm not sure if this has been asked before, and if it has please forgive me, but are there any apps that can replicate, or resemble Palm Pres Card style multitasking? Is there a limitation with the Android Platform that means it couldnt work? Jailbroken iphones have this functionality too, and it seems like with the open nature of the Android Platform we should be able to have.
that would need an app that runs other apps "windowed"... i don't think that is gonna happen. opposing the iphone android already has true multitasking out of the box, just get a task manager if you need one.

If programmed to do so the app you close will remain open and working in the background. Then you can re open it and you will be where you were when you closed it.

You could just use the built in multitasking. Hold Down The home button until the little window pops up.

I am not able to develop the screenshot now, it show only the icon. I strongly believe that i wiill be able to implement the screen capture feature soon...!
Report me any bug/suggestion/remark.
Features:
Launch it with a long press on search button ( camera button will come for devices without search button)
1) See all running app in an endless horizontal scroll
2) icons ( not screenshots) are displayed like palm pre
3) kill an app by dragging it to the top of the screen
4) Drag down an app to ignore it
5) icons ( not screenshots) are displayed like palm pre
6) icon size / space beetween icon fully customizable
7) Graphic png fully customizable
look in the preferences for all features
Thanks for that App, I like it alot. One minor aesthetic thing I wouldn't mind seeing in future versions is kinetic scrolling, although that's really not important. Good luck implementing screenshots, too!

That list just shows the last 6 programmes you have used so you can shortcut to them. It does not necessarily mean they will be running in the background.
Multitasking on the Pre is the best multitasking there is. Hands down. If someone made a "cards" application for android it would sell a ton...
