HTC Touch Diamond release party - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV General

Here in The Netherlands, we have had an exclusive HTC Touch Diamond release party.
A Dutch celebrity (soap actress) was there to hand over the very first device to the first preorder customer.
The party (over 100 visitors) had place at midnight on June 11, the streetdate of the Diamond in The Netherlands. "Diamond Day" was organized by PDAshop.nl (reseller of PDA's, Smartphone and accessories) and HTC Benelux.
It was fun to see how much people were willing to stand in line for the Diamond.
Have a look at the pics here.

Very nice! Enjoy your new phone
I hope mine comes my way really soon

HTC to Ship 1 Millionth Touch Diamond by Mid-August

High Tech Computer (HTC) will soon ship its one millionth Touch Diamond handset, just a few months after its launch in June, despite stiff competition from Apple's iPhone 3G.
By comparison, Apple took just three days to sell a million of its popular new iPhone 3G and 74 days to sell the first million units of its original iPhone. Few products measure up to the hype and popularity of the Apple device.
The Touch Diamond, a Microsoft Windows Mobile-based 3G (third generation telecommunications) smartphone with a 2.8-inch touchscreen, is HTC's fastest selling handset ever, said Maggie Cheng, an HTC representative. The smartphone is selling well in Europe and Asia, she said, but has not yet launched in the U.S. or Japan.
HTC expects to ship over 2 million Touch Diamond handsets by the end of this year.
The Touch Diamond has been popular among gadget blogs and technology Web sites for its cutting-edge technology and the contoured diamond-shaped backside, as well as its status as a rival to the iPhone 3G.
Strong demand for the Touch Diamond indicate the iPhone continues to expand the overall market for smartphones, a theory analysts that some market researchers, such as Canalys and Gartner, have put forth as a reason rival products sell well against the popular Apple handset. There had been fears that Apple's US$199 price tag might significantly slow down the competition, but companies including HTC have been able to provide similar pricing for their smartphones.
The Touch Diamond has already been launched by over 50 operators in 30 countries around the world.
On Monday, HTC announced a deal with Taiwan Mobile to offer the Touch Diamond for free to people who sign a 3G contract. The cost of the handset is recouped over time through the contract, as is the case with the iPhone 3G.
HTC had originally planned to launch the Touch Diamond for NT$23,900 (US$781) in Taiwan.
HTC is the world's largest maker of smartphones that use Microsoft software, and the Touch Diamond pits the Windows Mobile 6.1 OS against Apple's iPhone software.
The company also plans to introduce four or five more Diamond family products in the second half of this year, including the Touch Pro, which boasts a Qwerty-keypad that slides out from underneath for easy thumb typing.
Shipments of the Touch Diamond have far outpaced HTC's previous best seller, the HTC Touch, Cheng said. The Touch was launched last year to compete against the original iPhone.

Need to replace my Wizard

Any reason not to buy a new Kaiser off eBay? Still seems to have decent specs for today's market ...
Anything to look out for, buying via eBay?
The only thing that comes to mind is w/the Fuze (AKA HTC Touch Pro) coming "soon" and news of the upcoming HTC Touch HD already, pricing on Kaiser/Tilt should be coming down as people will probably start dumping them.
I've seen them marked down to 100, with a new contract. Although they will start going down as the new models are coming in quite soon.
I'm enjoying this phone a lot, over an iPhone xD
Pretty much needed a phone ASAP, so I went with a TyTnII off eBay for $330+$9 in shipping:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=170263424688#
That's half of what it was going for 5 months ago.
Almost went Touch Dual, but I really prefer the full keyboard for my SSH work, and of course for SMS/email.

Ordered HTC Diamond 2

Well just as an opening thread for now... ordered the HTC Diamond 2...should be with me next thursday all being well
Release date is 8/3 from memory so if they ship out on the same day...
Have explained about the returns etc and that I would want to turn it on/mess about to test out before formally excepting it... the company are fine with this as long as its in re-sellable condition along with packaging etc.
Things I will test that my current Diamond (first edition) has really annoyed me:
1. Both ear and loud speaker volume (and I know about the hack that in the end simply distorts the speaker)
2. Touch screen - how much does it compare to the iphone...iphone nipped it in the bud with their screen in how good it is in responsivness...you can literally touchtype on it...the Diamond even with the hack is still not as good and sometimes annoying if its too sensitive.
3. Battery life
4. Quite important, it's compatibility with my Audi bluetooth kit - current one displays missed calls/dialled calls/entire phonebook etc on my Audi screen.
5. Any sort or genuine windows slide to answer/slide to unlock? S2U2 is great but still has a few annoyances which is perfectly acceptable given that its free, someones spent a lot of hard time on it etc
I think thats my top 5 really - my threshold is if 2 of the 5 fail, its going back.
One of the items that must pass is point 4.
Will report back when I get it!
I just ordered mine yesterday too. Can't wait to get it...
And about Battery life and answer/slide unlock you don't need to bother, it's fine and in the Diamond2 it's a better battery!
The only thing that bothers me is.. that there's no D-PAD. I hope we're going to get used to it...
Orderd mine today too. Now the waiting begins...
Curious about life without dpad too....

Where did you ordered yours? Cause I live in Belgium but I am not sure what site to order, I think pdashop.be or something like that. I am born in Holland so I got relatives that live there,so maybe it could be easier to order it and send it to their adres? The release date was the 14the of April right? Can`t wait I already sold my Diamond and are currently using an old Samsung D900
I'm from belgium aswell, been looking into it, i think our cheapest (doesnt say much for how early u get it, but cheap is what counts for me!) option is http://www.belzaak.nl/preorder/HTC/6972/HTC_Touch_Diamond_II_NL/
delivery to belgium is like 13€, making it a whopping 41€ cheaper than pdashop ...

You guys are all lucky bastards , haha just messing with you guys, I am trying to sell my Fuze right now so I can buy a Diamond 2, anyone interested
I am curious to see if Diamond 2's speakers are going to be better than my current Diamond. If it's as good as Touch HD's, then it'll be great. Also, will it come with Net Compact Framework 3.5, cos lots of new apps require that. Will be checking this thread on and off before the set becomes available in Malaysia. Last question - price - cheaper than Touch HD?

The Diamond 2 will most likely come with Net Compact Framework 3.5, as for the price... yes it will be cheaper than the HD, according to Expansys - the Diamond 2 will be $125 usd cheaper.
I just ordered mine as well. My supplier said it was supposed to arrive yesterday, but its stuck with customs. Im anxiously waiting for his call today, if not tomorrow. I wonder if i will be the first in the world to own it (that is IF it isnt an april fool's joke!)

I ordered mine at pdashop.nl, it's expected to arrive on april 10th. I ordered other things from them before and never had any complaint. They also do very well consistently in the tweakers.net shop review. They do indeed have a belgian equivalent: pdashop.be.
For me, service is important. I have owned both an E-ten PDA and an HTC PDA. Both have had problems and have been sent RMA once. If a repair is needed, I want that to happen quickly and without trouble. I would never buy any grey device. But that's just MHO.
At a Webshop here in Switzerland it says "will be available approx. early April".. I guess it's coming on the 10th of April aswell.
Can't wait to replace my HTC TyTN II with a Diamond2...
I ordered mine from here http://www.handtec.co.uk/product.php/1868/ I can't wait for it to arrive, life without a D-Pad is gonna suck but it still beats the hell outta having an Elf-in !!
india
i frm india any idea which site to get it frm and tell can i get any version or all are the same pls help im a noooooooob
thanks guys
I don't know where to buy in India. However, devices sold in different countries have different ROM's. If you buy a device with a language different from your own you would have to hard splash it and upload a custom ROM from XDA or an official HTC ROM in another language. You'd be screwed if it would break and you would need to have it repaired under warranty. Then it has to have the original ROM it came with on it.

HTC Sense for Shift......

Hi guys. I have seen very positive reviews for the new HTC Sense that is all the talk of the upcoming HTC Leo. Is there any hope that the developers here will be able to make it available for the Shift. I know Shift winmo side is grossly underpowered but a boy can dream, can't he......
I doubt it very much due to the RAM/ROM constraints on the Shift
Just ordered my Leo, due for despatch on 11th Nov.
I think that's the only way I'll be seeing the new HTC Sense, the Shift won't have a hope of running it.

Yeah i saw on the Leo thread you ordered yours. Ill be getting mine in Janurary hopefuly, I'd like to get a sim free one but I dont know yet. I'm definately not getting a 24 month tarrif, nooooooo-way jose. The telcos can stick them where the sun dont shine!
I bought it from mobile phones direct, free with a new £35 18 month t-mo contract, and they always supply unlocked and unbranded units.
unlocked+unbranded?! cooool! Yeah ive seen these guys before. I would get their tmobile combi 30 deal, the phone would work out at £504.31 in total
