Good day to all
I'm trying to receive a 180mb video from my friend over BT (Since there is no micro SD slot ), How do you save to internal storage?
When my friend sends the file, first thing is that it tells me I'm receiving a file and only an option to cancel.
Then a few minutes later it tells me that the memory is full.
I think it's trying to save it to the phones storage rather than the 4GB.
I went to the FTP tab in bluetooth settings and changed the location to the internal storage. This didn't seem to have an impact.
I had a look through the options in advanced config but no joy.
How can you change the default location?
How can you ask to be prompted where to save files.
Just another complaint for WM6.1 is that when you change the default location it doesn't open a half decent browser, you can't even create a new directory.
This is Windows Mobile 6.1 and I can't believe they haven't resolved these issues since they were raised in their first version.
Can't wait for a version of Linux to come out for the mobile market that will have touch flo style.
I too have this problem !
Anyone managed to figure this out ???
really annoying not to be able to receive large bluetooth files
Try this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=304246
It gives you:
- Name of receiving file.
- Size of receiving file.
- Name of sending device.
- Shows progress bar while receiving.
- Simple one-touche searche bluetooth device Logs.
You can save received files directly to the SD card!

I was going to use my Tilt to download Vista SP1 at work the other night since the connection is much faster than mine at home.
I first tried Netfront 3.5 which gave a file could not be read error after about 1 minute.
Next I tried IE. I brought up the page and clicked download. It popped up and asked if I wanted to open the file after it finished. I clicked no to that then selected save as. I direct the file to be stored on my storage card and not the main system memory.
After about 5 minutes I get a beep and it says that I'm low on memory. Now I free'd up 1.2GB and the file is only 726MB. Are downloads saved to temp on the main memory before they finish then transfer to the micro SD?
If so how can I fix this. I have a rather small download cap at home and my jobs internet is ultra fast in comparison to mine. I really want to be able to download files like this if possible. This is one of the reasons I got the phone and I'm now rather disappointed that I can't download larger files.
Any programs out there that manage a download direct to the storage card or some other setting I can change to make this work?
Do search for "Advanced Config", and in that tool there is a way to change the temperary internet file location. I would imagine that the file is first caching itself into that folder (like normal windows) and then trying to copy it over to the flash card.
Man all I get is Edge, I hate you guys with uber fast phones.

Opera 9.5 (beta) can offer this service. You can configure the temporary download folder and the final download folder to be in the SD card. All these settings can be found in about:config, while opera beta can be found on this forum.

Okay I ended up downloading the advanced config. I see an option in there under IE settings that allows me to change the default temporary folder. What do I want to change this folder to though?
@ TrYde I really don't want to install Opera 9.5 (Beta) since it can't be uninstall ed but thanks for the info.
Edit In: Okay I think I got it in the right place. I created a temp folder on the storage card and wrote the directory as \storage card\Tempfiles. I then browsed my files on the storage card. It looks like in the tem folder I created advanced config wrote my cookies, history and temporary internet files into. I'll try this tonight at work and report back. A big +1 to you for letting me know about this program! I can't believe they would put such a limitation into the phone to begin with O wait yes I can.....
When MyDocuments is moved to an SD card, each time you try to create a new Note, you get this error:
"Could not create the voice link recording directory."
Also the every file shows twice in the Notes browser.
Has anyone come up with a solution yet? What does this error mean?
How can I move the default save location from "My Documents" to "My Documents\Notes"
Has anyone seen a solution for this yet?
At least does anyone else experience it?
Hi,
I am also experiencing this and have Googled the living daylight out of this but not yet found the solution. Did you?
I also get the double entries. Not only when using the Voice Recorder but also when using Notes even without a recording.
The problem that looked simulair was with the AudioManager of the HTC Touch Pro. The sollution there was to change the directories that AudioManager was scanning. There were 2 possible entries and both were set on "My Documents". However I can't find a simulair entry for Notes or Voice Recorder, but I might have overlooked it.
Also AdvancedConfig doesn't have an entry for a Notes or Voice default directory.
If there are more issues that keep being unresolved I might even consider changing the Storage Card the way it was.
Regards,
AJ
Solved: "Could not create the voice link recording directory"
Cause: This error occurs after moving the "My Documents" folder from Main Memory to a Storage Card, Internal Storage or some other location. The (misleading) error message appears becausethe Notes application still looks for templates in the original Main Memory location. Word and Excel also show (different) error messages for the same reason.
Solution: Make sure that Notes, Word, Excel etc. templates are available in the folder "\My Documents\Templates" in Main Memory even after moving My Documents to a different location.
WM6 Templates needed.
Hi,
I also have this nasty error message. I copied the templates in the \Meine Dokumente\Vorlagen Folder (= german version of \My Documents\Templates) but it doesn't helped at all. Maybe it's because they are WM5 templates. Could anyone please copy WM6 templates ti this forum?
Regards, Michael.

I AM A NOB .... DOING HIS BEST NOT TO BE A NOB
I solved it by browsing to My Documents and creating a new directory named My Voices.
Fix: Do not hide my documents for god's sake
Hi there!
I'm having a problem with the phone storage, not the internal 4gb storage...
The phone storage is at 0.20 mb (free!), but i don't really know why! On Saturday there were about 20 mb of free storage, but now they are gone ... I didn't install any programms, just looked a few videos with the youtube player and played around with some pictures that where sent as an email attachement (2 mb per picture) and suddenly the phone tells me "memory is low". i tried the sktools "clean" tool, but i'm not quite sure what i can delete without killing my pim data and so on. Is there anyway to figure out which application keeps all the information stored that killed my storage?!
I looked through the phone folders in the explorer on my pc, but i can't say
where the lost storage is located
any ideas on this !?
Thanks in advance
André
Maybe browser cache-data is filling it up? checked temp folders? 0,20MB sounds weird tho. What ROM are you using?
i searched all the tempfolders (hopefully i found them all ) but there aren't any large tempfiles or so ...
is there any specific folder you want me to have a closer look at?
i'm using the original o2 rom (1.37.207.2 GER)
Make a hard reboot and choose the 2nd option in the hard reboot menu
i'll give it a try the next few days and keep you informed
thnx!
before hard reset use sktools and do a complete clean
Why don't you see in your system settings menu, click memorry.
There you find a 'link' which gives you the option to search for big size files that fill up your memory.
too bad it doens't find many small files
Perhaps a stupid question but ...
If you swap from one SD to another it usually shows the first one ever used as StorageCard and the second one as StorageCard2 (guess something like a digital signature like other OS's do) and so on.
So far so good but the registry has links only to installed programs to "StorageCard". Is there a way to either CHANGE the name of additional storage cards that it remains "StorageCard" or an easy way to change ALL setting in the reg at once.
Sure, premises are that all programs exist on each SD card in the right directory structure.
try to use pocket mechanic to flag properties of old and new card
i have no experience just a suggestion

I recently had a problem that may help you out... For some unknown reason, my one and only "StorageCard" suddenly became "StorageCard2". So, I had a "StorageCard" directory that was empty and all my stuff in "StorageCard2".
Long story short, I removed the card, did a soft reset, deleted the "StorageCard" directory with File Explorer, powered off the Tilt, inserted the card and powered it back up. After all that, I had my "StorageCard" back.
Unless there's a script or utility floating around here, you may have to go thru a similar procedure when you want to swap cards.
Note that the "Phantom Storage Card" problem often comes from saving mail attachments to the storage card or having other applications write data to the card while running. The phone cannot release the card when it's removed (no "safely remove" option a la desktop windows), so you end up with a directory in main memory.
If you're encountering this problem frequently and have room in main memory, disabling those options and storing things in main memory often avoids the problem altogether.

Thanks... I thought my problem was related to mail. When it happened to me, the only thing in my "StorageCard" directory was mail. I suspect that I had done a soft reset and my Tilt processed some incoming mail (Exchange) before the storage card was ready to go.
Hi all, just a quick question regarding the functionality of Wp8 that I am fighting with, that I need to resolve or another WP phone is going back to the supplier [I did the same with WP7].
First off, apologies if there's an answer that I haven't managed to find.
I currently have an HTC HD2 running very nicely on WM6.5, however, it's been creaking a bit recently & I'd decided with a favourable review of WP8 that I read the other day suggesting that finally the device can be plugged into a PC & seen as a USB drive, that the time was right to move forwards.
Now that I have the Nokia Lumia 820 & WP8 however, I still don't think I can get it to do what I need it to do.
ALL I would like to do, is be able to copy text files from PC to WP8, & then display them on the phone with text wrap switched off.
Easy hey? Well if so, I haven't worked out how to do it yet!
I plug the phone into my PC, & an Explorer window fires up on the PC [XP] showing 'SD card' & 'Phone'. Drilling down one level on the latter gives Documents, Music, Pictures, Videos etc.
The only way I can get to see the Documents folder on my Phone appears to be via Office Mobile, under 'places' > phone. It appears to be very fussy about what it allows to be displayed there - I can see .PDF, .DOC, .XLS & .TXT files [but not .LOG. .ONE, .ZIP etc (which remain 'hidden')].
When I tap a .TXT file, I have no choice of how to open it, Office Mobile pounces & that's that. Having got this far, all I would now like to do is switch off text wrap [so that it'll view in a usable manner] because there doesn't appear to be such an option.
I have scoured the Store, & the best I've found is 'Text Reader', though this requires that I load it via email [upload a file to Hotmail or wherever with a .LOG (or similar) suffix & away you go, which it then downloads & stores in its own sandbox]. Ok, but faffy.
I believe that other progs might enable transfer via the cloud [Skydrive or whatever], but because of the nature of the data [& the fact that I don't want my data in anyone else's hands], this is out too.
I've spotted a couple of other quirks.
Office Mobile also does not allow you to display the folder hierarchy that may exist in Phone>Documents, just giving a flat filesystem, which makes finding a file in thousands, say, horrible. All I'd like to do is exactly duplicate the hierarchy that exists on the PC [& then I am always looking for things in the same place on either device].
I have also noticed that Office Mobile Word sometime hangs part way through a file. e.g. on loading a 1mb file, & searching for a text sequence I know to be on the last line, it hangs on a line part way through the file [say a 1/3 of the way in]. Not great, & I have the odd file that's c.10mb so I dread to think with that.
Words fail me, & once again I am hugely disappointed with MS. Please, please get the odd decision right & maybe WP will be at the top of the pile again as it was with [the sometimes awful, but very functional] WM.
I am hoping that someone will explain an easy way to do this, & that I can finally move forwards from WM6.5. Android concerns me re privacy & I don't like iPhones, so not much choice really! Stuck waiting for MS to provide basic functionality or [worse] a potential need for a future jailbreak to make the thing work properly!
Here's hoping. Many thanks for reading.
First of all, nobody who knew what the hell they were talking about said that WP8 displays as a USB drive (properly called USB Mass Storage). It's an MTP device, like most media players (or indeed WP7, though that had an extra layer of encryption around it). MTP doesn't display the actual filesystem; although the hierarchical display that it presents *may* mirror a real filesystem, it's under no obligation to do so.
The dearth of supported file types in WP7 was a real pain, but it could be fixed by tweaking the registry. In WP8 it's still a pain, but now third-party apps can (officially) register to handle file types. However, as you point out, there's no real way to browse the phone, and the Office hub only shows the filetypes it recognizes. We *might* be able to fix that, if we could get registry write permission, but that's not possible right now. With that said, I don't know if it would be possible for another app to register the (for example) .txt extension; the phone does offer the ability to choose what app opens a given file type.
For what it's worth, Bluetooth file transfer to the phone works fine, and the files will open in whatever app is registered to the file's extension. You can then save them into the app's storage (Documents, for Office apps). This may be a better way to transfer your data.
In WP8 you can build Apps that associate themselves with certain filetypes (identified by the ending). If your App is associated with a certain file type the App can also open files of that type from anywhere on the SD Card.
So for example if you put a *.log file onto the SD Card any App that is associated with the ".log" ending can read it (the Explorer functionality for the SD Card would have to be implemented by the App itself but it is supported). This does not work with the integrated storage though. With integrated storage you would still have to receive it via E-Mail, SkyDrive, etc.
Now for the caveats:
- Apps can't be dynamically associated with File Types. If you want to open "*.log" files the App developer has to associate his App with the filetype in it's manifest. If several Apps exist for a given filetype the user will be asked which one to use.
- There is a quite extensive list of file types that are reserved for the OS or built in Apps. Any file type that is reserved in that way can't be associated with third Party Apps. This contains Office documents (except PDF, TXT files and lots of media file types). The complete list can be seen here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windowsphone/develop/jj207065(v=vs.105).aspx
- Apps can only read from the SD Card but they can't Change data there.
Now as for your Problem: someone could build an App that supports e.g. Log-Files and you could use your Lumia 820 with an SD Card to pretty much work the way you intend to with those files. It's not really trivial though, given that 10 MB big plain Text-Files regularly lead to Trouble even on PC text Editors (the developer has to be smart on how to handle These "huge" files, so just some midnight hack job won't do).
What are your further requirements? Search pretty obviously. But what are all the filetypes you would need? Would you need editing capability?
Just trying to understand the compelete picture of your requirements. Perhaps you can tell us what kinds of files you use and for what purposes.
Thanks for taking the time to reply.
@GoodDayToDie
Re 'seen as a USB drive' - That's me being careless with words, what I meant to say was the ability to local sync over a USB cable, & then access the copied files on the device. I didn't think that you could do this with WP7 [without frigs], & had high[er] hopes for WP8.
I might have a look at Bluetooth FT as a method for getting the [bulk] data over locally, as I won't be doing it via the cloud [email or Skydrive]. Thanks for the advice.
@StevieBallz
Thanks for the MSDN reference - Very interesting.
Ok, so the apps can potentially access the data on the SD card but not write to it - As an aside, I thought I read something the other day that said data on the SD card was limited to Pictures, Videos, Music etc, as a security measure. That's interesting too then, though anything I want to be 'secure' I'd keep in the internal storage anyway.
Re the comment re 'Trouble even on PC text Editors'. Yes, I tried way back on WM2003 to get a file displayer going, but immediately hit problems with [I think] a 32KB limit on the textbox display. I've just made do with WM6.5's Word displayer since, which offers basic functionality.I keep meaning to go back to the coding, but haven't managed it yet [I think Visual Basic was missing for a while with WP, if indeed it's there yet (I thought I'd read it was with VS2012?)].
Re my 'requirements'. Just to be able to search [large-ish] text files & have the o/p displayed in a manner that's readable [no word-wrapping]. I realise editing is a whole new ball game, so read-only would be good enough. Longer term, I'd like the ability to have many text files open at once - On the desktop I use "Programmer's File Editor", & something like that [if only as a viewer] I'd find invaluable on the smartphone/PDA. I also have many thousands of files on my desktop [PDF, DOC, RTF, HTM, TXT etc] & ideally I'd like access to those on the go as & when needed, via a hierarchical file system on the mobile device, with the structure exactly mirroring the PC's file system, so that I'd search for & find data in the same places regardless of which device I was using [Why thousands? Might be 100s+ actually, & these could be electricity bills, sales receipts, insurance documents - anything - the stuff of life really].
I'll continue with my testing of Office Mobile Word's displaying & searching of text files. I've found it patchy & not consistent so far, but am going to have to move from WM6.5 eventually [more's the pity], & don't really want the hassle of sending the device back again.
Many thanks for your advice so far.
Device returned, many thanks for your help. Maybe WP9 then?

Judging by the ideas picked up for review on dev user voice, situation may drastically improve with the next SDK update.
