Bluetooth Signal Strength Problem - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

I have tried using 3 different bluetooth headsets with my kaiser and on all of them the signal quality started to degrade if the phone was more than about 2 feet from my headset. I have to hold the phone almost at chest level if i want to have a conversation via bt because as soon as i put it in my pocket it breaks up really bad. Strange thing is that when i turn the bluetooth on at home it asks if i want to pair with my laptop downstairs so i assume its just on the audio side.
Is there a tweak or registry edit to improve the signal strength or is this an inherant problem with bt headsets on the kaiser. I used to have a hermes and that worked fine upto about 6 feet with no loss of quality.
This isnt a problem with sound quality, its signal strength.
PLEASE HELP..
---------
Just tried my headsets again and they are working fine. I hadnt tried them since i flashed duttys WM 6.1 rom so i can only assume it was my old Orange WM 6.0 rom with the tytnII.. No help needed now thanks but if anyone has similar problems with bluetooth distance then try flashing a newer 6.1 rom.

Glad you were able to solve your problem. If you have any more issues, try playing with the bluetooth settings via Shap's AdvancedConfig.

O2 XDA IIi Bluetooth with Bluetooth Car Kit Issues.

Hi Guys,
Recent got an XDA IIi after being with the older XDA II for over 16 Months.
But I have recently run into problems with my BT Car kit :
Motorola Bluetooth Car Kit HFW-8000.
Basically the problem is that it does not always connect to the Car Kit and when it does it will only from time to time connect and let me have a handfree conversation.
I have also used the Broadcom Bluetooth Cab file here in order to extend what Bluetooth Profiles that can be used but seems not to have any great bearing to stablize the issue.
So I went down the Hard Reset Road but again still intermittent issues, I then upgraded the ROM to the New one on the O2 Website the v 1.11.169 ROM.
I also had similar issues with the XDA II but it was resolved by using the Pocket Bluetooth tools, which was great and never once after installing it did I have any issues with the Car Kit.
http://www.bluetooth.jazztel.es/
One of my questions is, is there a similar programme to to above Pocket Bluetooth tools for the XDA IIi as I have tried it with the XDA IIi but does not work.
Or does anyone know how you would revert to have the XDA II radio or is there a work around for it.
Thanks Guys
Woody
Hi Woody_XDA,
I have had my XDA2i for a couple of months now and recently got a O2 blue headset for it, I had simular problems with the headset disconnecting and having to manually connect every time I switched it on. After browsing this wonderfull forum I decided to do a corperate install and get rid of the O2 active interface, since then no problems at all. I now use Pugs modified ROM version 162 with radio 1.04 and have no stability problems at all with no twice weekly reset. Hope this helps you and many thanks to Pug for his ROM.
Mace
Ditto, I also use the custom firmware with 1.04 radio and bluetooth works a charm. It still eats battery like nothing else, but it works with no problems. Also like the fact that the XDA can cope with my GPS receiver and my handsfree kit simultaneously, that's handy for in the car.
Cheers Guys for the information, took it on board and works great, did a great deal of stress testing in order to confirm it and works excellent..Thanks to PUG again and guys thanks for the info much appreciated and this is by far a great forum
Mace - you mention some bluetooth issues being resolved since you applied the custom ROM... I posted in the Alpine Applications forum here the other day a list of issues with bluetooth that I was wondering had been addressed - so far no reply - are these the symptoms that were cured for you??
Hi Bewlay Brother sorry, I missed your other post on Bluetooth issues, my original problem was that every time I switched on my BT headset , which is a O2 Blue, I had to open the BT manager and make the connection, the phone would then occasionally lose the connection and sometimes whilst still showing a connection refuse to transfer the call. This was using the official 162 ROM with the O2 active UI. I have since installed Pugs 162 ROM with radio1.04 and done a corporate install and BT seems to work perfectly, switch on the headset, it connects, never loses pairing and transfers calls.
Hope this helps you, and thanks again to Pug,
Mace.
Mace - what you describe sounds similar - my problems were essentially the loss of pairing with my Motorola headset a lot of the times when the XDAIIi switched off its display and went into stand-by mode, also if I closed the boom bike on the headset (to temporarily turn off the headset) it would fail to re-pair when I next opened the boom mike... the other issue was that I had to make sure the phone keyboard was displayed on the XDA once I had paired up otherwise the last number redial function on the headset would not work - if I pressed the dial button on headset and the phone display was not on the screen it would simply open the phone display function but fail to then dial the number - really crap. Also reception was poor to headset even over relatively short distances from the XDA. IF these areas in particular could be cured by the upgrade then I am eager to do it - I must admit I have read that this upgrade has not been without problems for some people here so it is going to be a tough call.
Just a thought, but have you done a personal or corporate install as I think the main fix with Pugs ROM was the upgrade to radio 1.04, which I don’t think affects the BT, so a corporate install with your existing ROM may make a difference.
Did a corporate install when it was new out of the box...
whats the difference between the corporate and personal install?
Corporate doesn't install ANY of the branded O2 interface - so no gubbins, nothing to slow down the phone, you just get a bog standard Windows Mobile 2003 SE installation, aside from the O2 GPRS and SMS settings. Bosh.
hi
i've been reading the posts and i have the same problem where can i get hold of pug's ROM if it's possible cos this seems to get rid of the problem
And then today, headset will not automatically connect, needing Bluetooth manager to be opened to make the connection. AARRRGH!
BT car kit problems
I have the 1.04 Radio, but it still won't sync with my 2003 BMW 325xi bluetooh or with my 2005 Acura MDX bluetooth.
Help!
Unstable Bluetooth Signal Strength - Samsung WEP200 Bluetooth Headset
Hi, I just got a Samsung WEP200 Bluetooth Headset. It would pair with my O2 XDAIIi but I cannot hear any voice in both incoming and outgoing calls. When I check the BT Manager, it shows a totally unstable BT strength that varies from very strong to very weak. The same headset worked well with other BT phones. My ROM version is 1.11.00 WWE, Radio version 1.04.00.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

WiFi disables or crackles Bluetooth and kills VoIP

Weird issue with new HTC ROM (version no. below) - anyone else got it or know a fix?:
If I make a BT call with WiFi on, the BT crackles and flits every second.
If I turn off WiFi it is perfect.
If I set WiFi to 'Best Performance', all BT devices are lost and disconnect.
If I set it to 'Best Battery' or the middle setting, BT devices reconnect.
VoIP calls via Bluetooth now crackle themselves to death, because such calls use BOTH Bluetooth AND WiFI simultaneously - shock horror!
(Updated post above with VoIP issue)
i was having the same exact problem, took me couple days to realize it was the wifi. Only thing ive been able to do(motorolla s99 stereo) is make sure my headset is FULLY charged before pairing. And (no fix here) i shut the wifi off when im in the field. There is a bug there for sure. Is it just too much for the phone to track the 3g, wifi, and duplex on the BT?

I have exactly the same problem. BT works great with my headset (Plantronics 8XX) and has good range and is very clear. My WiFi works great and has a good range BUT if I have both turned on my BT is useless. BT devices are not visible more that 30cm away and there is a major crackle even at less than 30cm. Took me a while to work out why my BT headset would not pair with my TyTn II and Plantronics could not help. Used to work with my previous TyTn II OK, so I did a hard reset and then BT paired fine. Then I realised it was simply that hard reset turned off WiFi so I wasted my time doing hard reset when turning off WiFi was solution.
I called HTC and they can't or won't help but they did say they would log it and look into it (do we believe them? ;0).
The BIG PROBLEM for me is using SIP/VoIP as this uses WiFi of course but because of front speaker issues on TyTn II it is very hard to use without a headset and sound it just not good enough most times to use on my unit. So BT headset is the answer but can't work due to this WiFi/BT issue.
I am going to try flashing various different radios this afternoon as some members said this may help but from what I have read on this forum it does not solve problem completely.
If not then it's back to my wired headset and looking like an 80's teenager when I am using VoIP.
Also I wanted to install Navizon and earn points driving around with my WiFi on but this would mean no BT headset so I can't do this.
This really is an annoying bug.
If anyone has a fix or has found something searching the forums that my searches have not found then pls let me know.
Thanks.

Bluetooth Stereo Headset and WiFi Problem

I found a problem with my kaiser phone last night. The problem is that if I listening to music with my bluetooth headset I am not able to connect to my WiFi at the same time. This problem is specific to A2DP because my headset can be connected to my phone and I can not browse the web with WiFi. Has anyone seen this problem before? Has there ever been a resolution for it?

I've seen this too -- when using A2DP, the WiFi connection goes down & won't re-establish itself until I turn off A2DP. I haven't found a resolution yet -- not that I'm looking for one as I almost never use A2DP, and when I do, I'm in the car, where WiFi isn't too useful.
See my post here which may be a related problem. I assume you have the same new HTC ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=396409
I have a similar issue. If I am streaming music, from my HP media server, over wifi and using my Plantronics 590A bluetooh headphones, after each song I am asked to log back onto the network and as each song comes to an end my device starts to search for a network connection. I don't have this issue when I use wired headphones. Clearly there is an issue when both bluetooth and wifi are used at the same time. I don't know if it's hardware or software but I'm not happy about it.

It's normal. Without going too technical, WiFi and Bluetooth operate on the same frequencies. They will live together if they're not using too much bandwidth, but if the usage is heavy there will be problems.
A BT stereo headset represents a lot of data to send and thus bandwidth usage, which means the BT will use the spectrum heavily, stepping over the Wifi. Due to the many packet losses the Wifi connection cuts.
Other way around, if Wifi is under heavy load, Bluetooth might drop.
Nothing we can do, that's what happens when you pack 2 radios operating in the same frequency band so close to each other, or even maybe sharing the same antenna which might be the case in today's phones.
It is absolutely NOT normal. The reason I know this is that VoIP over WiFi has been running almost perfectly on my TyTN II for a year, until I installed the latest ROM by HTC which broke it.
I used to get no crackle on Bluetooth calls with WiFi turned on. Now I do.
I used to get great quality VoIP. Now it is beyond unusable.
Simply, their new ROM broke it. BT and WiFi used to live in harmony, until their buggy ROM came out the other day. I think there are many users who know this, and who expect a hotfix soon.
You're talking about calls, I assume using the BT headset profile, while the other people in the thread are using A2DP wireless stereo. They're very different in terms of bandwidth.
On mine the headset with WiFi is also fine, but not A2DP. You're apparently not having the same issue than what is mentione in this thread. Yours might be due to the ROM, but the A2DP thing is more likely to be related to what I explained. I could myself experience it with several ROMS (all WM6, never tried a 6.1).

My old TyTn II worked fine with BT and WiFi on at same time - never a problem. I always had WiFi on at home for emails etc... and always have my BT headset (Plantronics 8XX mono) working as I hate holding phone to my ear and get a lot of calls.
I recently bought another TyTn II and then unlocked it using advice form this forum (many thanks to all BTW!) and installed latest HTC rom and WM6.1 etc... Now I love many aspect of the new ROM but I can't use BT and WiFi at same time.
So from my experience it MUST be the new HTC ROM software issue.
Okay, chalk me up as another victim of this Wireless + A2DP = Crap Reception. I've tried three other Radios and the effect is the same.
I was using a rom I got in about April, and I could stream music from the internet over wireless listening to it on my Pantronics 590A's over bluetooth no issues (other than battery lol). Now with a rom I got this month, I can listen to music over bluetooth no problem, surf using wireless no issue but as soon as you mix them both it's all bad. Also, I need to re-pair my headphones whenever I want A2DP, where previously I could just turn on the headphones and have them connect. Also, no headset icon in the taskbar.
It's not a CPU issue as there's no excess usage when you both have them enabled. Personally I'm going to point the finger at the bluetooth stack here.
As far as I remembered when I first purchased the ATT Tilt with my Plantronic Voyager 855 I WAS able to stream via Wifi (Winamp Remote) and use my bluetooth without a problem. It's when I started to put cooked roms in the Tilt that it stopped working correctly...
Besides, I use a Macbook Pro via Wifi only and I listen to my Itune via my Plantronic Voyager 855 everyday. If it's true about WiFi overloading Bluetooth on the frequency. Why does it work fine on the MBP?
And Finally.... to make my point...
I also have an AT&T Fuze. Works fine there. Matter affact. I'm currently connected via bluetooth to my Fuze with my Voyager 855... turned off 3G/HSPDA on the Fuze. WiFi on the Fuze using Winamp Remote to connect to my PC streaming from there. Explain that....
Has anyone fixed this problem?
I'm experiencing the same problem on my kaiser aka xda stellar. When Wifi is turned on bluetooth A2DP stereo connection is dropped.

Bluetooth/WiFi Interference Issue

I've had my tilt since June and bluetooth was working great on my BMW and my Lexus. Then about two weeks ago every time I used my tilt on either my BMW or Lexus the bluetooth connection was extremely garbled. My other phones with bluetooth worked flawlessly in either car. My tilt which was upgraded to WM6.1 was the obvious culprit. I tried a soft reset, hard reset, going back to WM6.0, and then back to WM6.1 but always within a day or two my bluetooth connection between the tilt and either car became garbled. I even tried another tilt but same symptoms. So that brought me back to software, radio code, or configuration. Considering that I used both the WM6.0 Rom and the WM6.1 Rom and both didn't work the only answer was configuration. Last night after getting a replacement Tilt I resynced with both the BMW and the Lexus with no problems. This morning on my way to work again the bluetooth connection became garbled. Now I'm extremely frustrated, then I noticed a red light came on in my BMW which is what happens when the bluetooth connection fails. For some reason I turned off my wifi and immediately the red light went out. I tried a call and every thing was working great (nice and clear). I made several calls and bluetooth again was working flawlessly. Then I remebered that one of my settings was to change the wifi card to maximum performance instead of maximum battery since this makes a huge difference in wifi performance. I'm going to perform some more tests this afternoon but I think the extra wifi power is severly affecting bluetooth.
yea same happens with me when I have WiFi and bluetooth on. also my friend who has tilt has same problem. I think this is common problem with tilt. so far I tried few different radios and roms but noting helped. I could not find fix for that anywhere.
You need to try different radios. I found radio 171091 worked well with a lot of the 6.1 ROMS. I am now using 1652436 with Athine's ROM and both of these allowed me to Bluetooth Stereo, Bluetooth Phone and WiFi. The biggest problem I have ever had with these Radio's is when I drive around and pick-up different WiFi spots, the Bluetooth audio will cut out for up to 1 second.
Great, I never installed radio code before. Is it similar to changing the Rom?
same process
I'm using AthineOS v3.2 rom with a Tilt Radio Version 1.71.09.01 Same thing.. everytime you use Bluetooth and Wifi it craps out if there is a lot of data transfer between either of the technology.
Worse off, it takes down my Wifi at home for 30sec-1min. All my devices that is on Wifi loses signal

A2DP Bluetooth Audio interrupts

Hi Guys,
i have this problem for a long time and didn't find anything about it in web or in xda forums.
I have a HTC Dream + HBH-IS 800 Sony Ericsson Headset.
When i listen to music via A2DP the connection is not very stable...
the connection interrupts very often for about 2 or 3 seconds, then works for about 3 seconds.
This only happens when i am outside, not in buildings. I this the reason is because of interferences. The connection gets better when i move the G1 into a specific orientation (upper side up) and don't turn my head to the right
On my old Windows mobile phone i played around with bitpool (=ratio between quality and connection stability by constant bitrate) settings... is there a possibility to get the connection more stable, when playing around with this setting?!
How can this setting be changed on android?
Further information:
-ROM Cyanogen 4.2.5 but same problem on stock ROM
-HTC Dream has been replaced one by a new device -> same problem
-Headset was never exchanged, but worked perfectly on my old Touch Pro with WM 6.1
Thanks for your help
There is a known issue on the Bluetooth stack and is suppose to be fixed in the Elclair 2.0 fix, the temporary work around is to first pair and connect then disconnect and reconnect it again i'm having to do that several times a day when i use my RocketFish bluetooth stereo headset. Hope that helps
thanks for this workaround, will try it tomorrow and will post if it works for me too
hmm, didnt really work for me... no change after pairing disconnecting and connecting again.
i wonder why this only happens outside, not in buildings... another frequencys which interferences maybe?!
Be sure to disable wifi.
Not trying to hi-jack your thread. If you want me to open another i will. However this is a BT question as well.
my G1 is set to connect to my stereo in my car. Pioneer BT head unit. I find that i have to manually tell it to connect every time i get in the car. When i had a blackberry before it would just connect every time on its own without me doing anything once i made the initial connection.
Any ideas?
thanks.

Worked on Dell Streak A1.6
I have Dell BH200 headset as well, and I have the same exact problem its like the audio stutters but when I first connect it its more stutter than music so you can barely even understand the music until after 30secs when it starts to normal out.
ATM im runnning Stock 1.6 for G1, im going to try Cyanogenmod 6.0 tomorrow and see if anything changes.
but everyday I go back and forth with my laptop and phone since my headphones run for atleast 3-4 days.
wow, finally someone having the same problem.
and even the same description of the connection issues.
I recently bought a orange SanFran and, as the device is fairly cheap, a nokia bh-504 along with it.
The connection isnt stable even when I put it in my breast pocket.
As soon as I move my head to the right, the streaming stops. Completely.
I can easily stop the music when holding my hand in front of the right earpiece.
so i will try the disconnect / connect again "workaround", but I don't think that will help.
I paired the same headset with my gf's netbook and I could walk through the whole apartment and the signal was stable even through up to 4 walls.
so no one here knows how to tweak BT settings in android?
