what instant messaging service do u use? - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

hi
I've bene using a win mobile phone for 7+ years but I am new to the world of instant messaging on windows mobile, I signed up for windows live IM service but I was told I would be charged 20p per IM on T Mobile in the UK.
What IM service do u use, and how much do you pay for it? Is there a way to send IM via 3G, as opposed to a atext message as the 20p per message seems to sugegst?
Can skype be used as an IM service? and how much would I be charged? I don't want to pay the price of a text msg each time I send a IM.
Thanks

this topic has been covered extensively in the last few WEEKS. i've seen so many of these topics, u will surely be able to find something...actually, a lot

why are u wasting your time on this forum if "Search" is the only thing you've got to say?

because, no when people do SEARCH for the topic instead of just posting new post after new post, instead of getting 5-10 good hits, they might have to sift through more than 30....but if you really want someone to do all the work for you, here:

Thats the only thing i dont like about this forum. I have searched for some things, and posted at the end of an old thread, and got no reply, thats happened twice.
I have also had some problems, as i assume a lot of new members here do, with which keywords to search for, granted, instant messenger is an easy search, but there are others that i didnt know, and have had real difficulty finding, rather than posting a new thread.
Wouldnt it be easier just ignoring the posts instead of a lot of users just keep saying over and over to search, or read the wiki ? A lot of new users will always ignore both of those things. Just seems a waste of time (imo anyway) replying to tell them to search.
And on topic, I have tried jivetalk, which was ok, and currently use palringo.

this could be helpful

I use Agile on the Tilt and Trillian on the desktop. Both are multi-protocol IM clients and work well.

Why are people on this forum so damn temperamental?

I have been reading through alot of posts here over the last couple weeks.
There seems to be a lot of bickering, pointless debate, insults and flaming going on here. (I know am probably starting more with this post, but that is why I chose the off-topic forum) I know you get it on all internet forums, but this one seems to be worse than most.
I actually had someone pm me on something recently, I believe, because he was too afraid to make a post asking for help. I dont blame him. If someone here asks a question that may or may not have been asked months ago (therefore buried by 10 pages of more current posts) he gets flamed. I also notice he asks another newbie like me, instead of someone with a lot of posts, because they seem to be the most touchy.
And I know, that is why there is a search. But you know, search tools on forums like this are a joke. You are going to get a return of 1000's of posts, 99% of which have nothing to do with what you are looking for. And for me at least, half the time when I search, and I am rewarded with a blank page (in both mozilla and IE).
Just wanted report on what I see here. Maybe others see it differently.
Jimmy - not to validate your argument, but I disagree with you!
Seriously, I respond to so many posts, probably even unnecessarily so sometimes, just because I like the community. The vast majority of us are here because we enjoy the community and are like-minded gadget freaks.
You do get some flaming, some *****ing, some idiots, some spam, some divas. But the vast majority, in my experience, are very nice, helpful and supportive of newbies. We were all one once, and I hope that I'd rather say nothing then something unhelpful.
Anyone can PM or email me any time. I can't respond immediately, but I will try to respond.
The usual "use the search, Luke", response is normally only fired out when you've got a very new member blurting out things like "How do I switch the phone off?". My reasoning there is, teach a man to fish, he'll help himself a lot more then just filling his gullet with answers. But, for valid, non knee jerk questions, most people will try to help.
I think it's better no one answers if they don't know, and if they don't, feel free to bump. But don't bump twice in 5 mins - "COME ON, DOESN'T ANYBODY
KNOW HOW TO SORT MY CONTACTS BY FIRST NAME??!?!?!??!" is not a way to make friends with me.
Anyway, I could rant all day, but I think the board generally speaks for itself. Most are helpful, most are nice, most are here because we want to be here.
You get some bad posts, but seriously, in my year on the board, I've only had two encounters that caused me to contemplate leaving...

I know it is not everyone, my subject should not have been why are people so temperamental, it should have been why are SOME people so temperamental.
I agree with you, if it is a repetive question, just dont answer. I just think it is bad when people are pm'ing rather than posting because they are afraid.

I gotta' agree with you on that thread, vijay. Those pics (the original ones) NEVER should have been posted. They provoked a LOT of ire from users and flaming, too. There's no room for politics on this forum. It's not here for that purpose and I felt like that was where that thread was heading. Even the world news networks don't show images THAT graphic!! Thanks for deleting them and putting that thread back "on course".

maybe i hang out in the wrong forums or my level of what is hostile is wayy different from yours
but this is one of the most friendly forums i come in
or have ever come in (and thats a great deal)
i dont see telling people to use search and the likes to be hostile
personal attacks is hostile
Dont know what the problem is, sure once in a while people get pointed to search, wiki or spend some time reading. And yes once in awhile there are no flowers in that reply.
Sure even I have had the balls to move a post out of news and tell the guy to post in the correct, forum, read wiki and use search. It pisses of our other users who think news is news and not news being somebody asking how do I upgrade my device.
I have seen a lot of threads, a few things I did not like to see, a few I have killed. I have seen nice, not so nice and far form nice askers and also answerres.
In general you get a lot more help here than on other places (yes I have had to look other places).
But hell its a free word, if anybody thinks this site is not good to or for them, well its a click of the mouse to solve that problem.
Mean while will I point a user to the answer of his question which in fact is the same question in 4 different sections. Hum let me think about that one.
Personally I find most people on the forum very friendly. You always get a few who are a bit temperamental but that is life. But on the whole this would have to be the most helpful and friendly forum around.
I will have to agree and disagree with this.. i havent been a member that long and i did take the smart route, i actually read this board over and from top to bottom for months before making a single post, what stopped me from making a post right away was most senior people's complaints about newbs not searching, etc.. so i did just that searched and read... and here i am 3 months later of my first post and have made well over 500 now.. (i have point to all of this somewhere here ) This site can be a little confusing to newbs, but most of the confusion comes from other newbs making the same posts over and over again, you might search for one thing and come up with 50 posts of the same problem, however 49 of them are flames telling them to search to find the answer... and this is where it also gets frustrating for the senior people, people who have already answered this once before causing the temperamental flames.. Now i do try to answer what i can, we were all newbs once and i still consider myself one and i answer many pm's of people who are afraid to be flamed (which if they would have searched they would have found the answer) but im also not their personal wiki... ok, im done, oh yeah, vote for me for president
I agree with jimmy hauser
I came here from treocentral, which was much more supportive on average. Sure, there are some good-spirited and helpful people here, but it is overall much more antagonistic than treocentral.
As a practical matter, the search engine isn't very good and the recent upgrade of the forum didn't make it easier. It took me a few weeks to think of googling with the site:xda-developers.com, identifying the appropriate thread and then searching for that specific threads. Otherwise, one gets too much. Yes, we all find it annoying when someone starts a new thread that has already been answered fifty times, but on the other hand, there are pretty many 20+ page threads. It might be helpful to suggest to someone what they should have searched for, and try the search to see if it works. Just today I was trying to find the registry tweak that would eliminate the roaming indicator, but I couldn't remember what the thing did, so it took forever to find the registry tweak, and this for something I knew I had read on the board at some point in the past.
Here is what I think is actually better than most sites: the wiki. The wikis are uniformly high quality and some people have written fabulous how-tos.
My pet theory is that it is windows at fault. Things like activesync being so hilariously dysfunctional and the X meaning minimize on the PPC cause tempers to rise just a little too easily. Palm users are happier.
On the other hand, without XDA-developers, my MDA would have been approximately useless. The list of problems that were answered, either directly or indirectly, here is huge. Everything from ROM upgrades to TodayAgenda to 2.47 radio rom to wifi settings to wm5newmenu, I got them here. It is a wonderful resource.
I came here from esato, former sony ericsson user ditched it with the p990
if you really want to get flamed say I didn't like the p990 on esato or god forbid the tytn is better than it (I had both got rid of the p990) basically compare anything or say anything is better than a S.E. phone and you'll get your diehard fanboys by the dozens.
anyways some people get flamed here beacuse they are total noobs who don't bother to read anything, I agree they shouldn't get flamed that bad but they should do a little reading, there is a wealth of information in these forums,
as for asking I try to reply to anyone who asks something I know and if anybody needs anything please feel free to pm me I will answer when I can, although posting a forum gives more views as well as future reference for future noobs
I think this site provides so much useful information and it has kept many devices going when they would have gone in the bin. It has allowed a lot of older devices to still have the current operating system. I think half the time people have got home from work and are on a short fuse any way and any little thing pushes them over the edge and that is what causes the bickering. Just my thoughts on the matter.

I'm not sure if I'm the "temperamental" one here, but yes, that is a very annoying thing. They act as if the members here are google, and they just type in a search sentence "Nood here, please give me a clear, step-by-step, easy to flash my ROM", click a button, and you get the answer. Not to mentioned the lack of information they provide, which can be potentially harmful to them consider they don't even know which ROM to get. And when things go wrong, they will post a new thread with the title "Pleeeeaazzz help".
The another annoying thing is the lack of information. Some members will post problems with so little information that they delay the solution to their very own questions, and annoying for the helpers. Eg. "I downloaded the flash software and ROM, but now the phone won't start, please help". Then, you try to be helpful and suggest "Why don't you try program X?". Later, you will get the answer "Oh, I've already tried that, won't work. Any other suggestion?" .. I will be like.. why don't you said so in your first post? ggrrrr..
Anyway, now I've developed an habbit of ignoring such posts. Those (a) Step by step guide for total nood (b) Thread with Pleeazzz help title (c) Post with lack of information. This will make me.. less "temperamental", I guess.
Anyway, as for the Wiki, I still thinks there are not enough information in the Wiki, such that it makes members difficult to point noobs to simple/common tasks. And, it also makes the non-noobs (the oldies ) going around the search function to answer something that they've forgot. So, for those who are happy to help others, please contribute yourself to the Wiki. Personally, I think it is much more influential to get one thing onto the Wiki than answering 10 PMs. And you get to point them to the Wiki if the same problem surfaced.
I'm temperamental beware
Well I remember when I got my MDAIII back over a year ago and came across this site thanks to google. So like a noob that I was and in many areas still our I posted one of those "how do I upgrade my german MDAIII to English.
Well I can tell you what has changed over the last year. Back then I got NO ANSWER, no falming, no use search, no use wiki.
So over time this site has changed and now at least you can get a reply even if this is thought by many as beeing flamed at.
Over time I learnt 2 things, one to read and one to use search. The reading I have kept the Search well that is a Pain in the ass. In the blue angel section (upgrade) do a search for "new rom" and you get Zero, its a bug we are working on it but it still sucks. Now in the same BA Upgrade section do a search for Threads by "MDAIIIUser". Here you get "New Rom" "new rom:" "New rom!" and the like.
Myself I have stoped the use search as I cant use it myself in the form that I want. Sad but true.
So what is the solutiom, for me it was then wiki, sure I had to post on how to edit it but with time I could even work it out. So from there I found out how to upgrade and posted it on wiki, found roms and posted them, found an unlocker, cabs and a bunch of stuff that I thought was cool of intrest and useful. So I posted it in wiki, edited it when new roms came out, ect bla bal.
Well Time moved on and I got bored after the 3 WM5 rom and well nothing else happens in the BA section the device is dead only sold by a few and thus.... I left it.
Now there is lots of grest info here, lots of great people that have found out lots of cool tricks. Its what makes this site, not the how do I upgrade or should I perform a restore after a rom upgrade. However noobs, newbies what ever we might like to discredit them as have a right to be here, I riight to the information and a right to some constructive help.
What we should all do is keep wiki upto date which is a lot easiser for a new member as he is driven by the quest of knowlege than an old member that does nto realy care in which direction his rom goes to as there is nothing new.
So I am not going to search the wiki pages for who finds this sites attitude bad but himslef has failed to update wiki, nor try to work out which users are helpful or flame.
All I am trying to say and now we get to the short version, is be nice, remember that you to were lost on this site and Please update wiki.
Oh yes, you will find a posts from me that just read "moved to XX (BA, Universal, hermes) but you will also see my signature which should point some people in the correct direction. Could I have answered all of there questions, yes sometims, sometimes not. So why don't I? well that due to the fact that some of us try to keep the site clean.
personally i feel the same way as the orginal poster...but i do see where some of yall are coming from with n00bs askin the same ? thats been answered before. i currently run a forum and have that problem sometimes. im no complete n00b just a novice with all this hackin/developin and i noticed i postd some ?s months ago with no responses at all and yes i searched for the answer and vj u had even posted in that thread but i never got a response. i didnt get mad....i pmd someone who helped me out the best he could since he was as new as me. i have found pm to be the best method of recieving help on this board....even tho at times "anal retentive" members dont even respond to say anything....no "f off" no "yea sure do this..." no "try looking here" just no response at all leaving n00bs to think i better not post if i dont know fully what im talking about.....i personally think the community would be better if everyone treated everyone as they would like to have been treated wheb they were n00bs. we all were at one point and time......shezzzzz......dont u guys remember? well all this is imho.

Making the ATT Tilt Like the Unlocked HTC Kaiser

This is my first post.
I have owned a 8125 (wizard) for a year. I'm getting the tilt (399 from premier) soon. Before I do this I have a few questions if those who own can answer:
Is there a way to put the HTC Rom on the Tilt?
If so, How does it run?
Can you unlock the GPS? If so, does can you use Tom Tom? Can I use the GPS for free without using Telenav?
I really only care about the GPS, because my 8125 is pretty similar other than that.
Let me know please!

Just go to the Kaiser upgrading section to find the HardSPL unlocker and the Kaiser ROM to flash.
The GPS on the Tilt is already unlocked so you can use it with any software or data-based navigation program. . . no Telenav subscription needed.

Try being a bit kinder to the newbies. After purchasing a Kaiser I have been back on the boards for the first time in 2+ years and despite 5 straight days now (probably 20-25 full hours reading) this info was new to me.
What is also new to me is the elitist attitude of some members. This is a forum, and the last time I checked this meant it was a gathering place for people to share info. Some people will always be new and ask questios that others find pedantic. I see this pattern on every forum I have ever visited. If you can tell from the topic that it is something that has already been covered, don't read the post, but if you do go to the trouble to read it, AND make a comment, then at least make a helpful suggestion such as, "Try searching on XXX". This not only helps the OP, but others who happen to be "in the same moment" and would like more info too.
sorry but even as a new member I agree with austinsnyc...if the topic is already there, do a search on the forum first and look for maybe 5 minutes before you post redundant questions. This isnt about an elitest attitude, its about being considerate of everyone on the forum and not flooding it with crap that is already there.

Yeah me too. But I usually do search.
It wasn't the suggestion to search that I found objectionable, it was the way is was said. It's just not a very nice way to welcome a new poster. I am sure we have all asked stupid questions from time to time. No need to be rude about it. That was the elitist part. If you have em, imagine of your kid's teacher said to your child on the first day of school. "That was a stupid question, stop wasting our time."
Sadly no one came to my defense. Still say I am making a bad call on the change in tone of the forum? Rhetorical question, not looking to start a flame war. My last word on this is to ask others to please be polite. Nuff said.
Unless someone is new to forums (and the internet) in general, they should know to search before asking something, but that doesn't mean older users need to be a jerk if they don't.
Also, sometimes information gets buried in large threads and even though you may use the search, it can be hard to sort through all of the results or a very large thread to pull together all of the information. Sometimes, it's really helpful if a knowledgeable user can paraphrase it all in one place.
Thank you newbie 2. Instead of searching through thread after thread i asked. Your answer on the unlocked gps part of the phone was all i needed !
In wolfs, defense....I've been pouring through the kaiser upgrading sections and just when I think it is safe to put the HTC rom upgrade in my tilt, I read posts like "when will they make this for the tilt?". I'm relatively sure that this upgrade works on the tilt, but am even more sure that I would never know what to do if it didn't...nor would I know what to do if I had to put the AT&T rom back on if I needed to get warranty work done - like I might, since mine absolutely will not beam files via bluetooth right now. I've put a bunch of tweaks on my tilt and love em...thank you everybody sooooo much! But currently am 'ascairt' to put the HTC rom on.

One week since I got my Diamond...

... and I must say I'm pretty impressed. Unlike what appears to be general consensus, I'm pretty much sold on Touchflo 3D, bút I still have some problems and questions some might be able to answer. Some of the questions I know are still unanswerable, some have already been answered, but I'm just writing them down for completeness. The ones that have been answered have been edited in for future reference.
- Can Opera be removed or can the Browser globe on the Internet page of TF3D be linked to Internet Explorer?
According to KukurikU, the answer to this question remains no for now. Probably, a modified ROM can change this behaviour. NChief says that using Opera some more would be a better idea, as he feels its a more capable browser.
- Can the background of TF3D be changed on all pages, instead of only the Home screen?
Not yet. This might be in future updates.
- Can we add custom cities to the TF3D Weather application?
No, according to a thread about this question, for now it appears HTC is using a DNS referral to forward our weather inquiries to AccuWeather in a special layout. Using any city in this script that is not listed in the normal list yields no result as the whole thing just reverts.
- Can you set the SMS/E-mail pages in TF3D to only display unread SMS/E-mail?
Not yet. This might be an option when TouchFlo 3D is more heavily modded.
- Can I have the battery indicator show at the top of the screen while TF3D is running?
According to most people, it should already be there. Sadly, it is not for me. I'll investigate this some more to find out if there is a particular reason for this.
- Can anyone tell me whether the bottom USB connector on the Diamond is a modified 5-pin USB mini connector, and whether such a plug can be used to charge the phone (in case I lose my original powercable).
Again, according to KukurikU, the original cable is a modified 5 pins mini-USB adapter, I'm going to take the guess that the remaining pins are used for audio/feedback purposes.
- What are generally accepted must-have games, and generally accepted must-have applications for WM6 / Diamond?
Sadly, KukurikU felt he was not intelligent enough to answer this question. Until now, I've found that Advanced Configuration is one handy utility to have (especially in combination with the quite useful tweaks topic), and that alternate GPS software (ie besides Google Maps) is much lighter on the battery.
I also have some remarks and comments:
- Hard-SPL Dev + TLR's ROM are on my Diamond and they're great improvements. They stopped me from returning my Dutch, crippled ROM without handwriting support, slow, laggy stuff.
- Overall impressed. Good battery-life, fast, responsive, uncluttered, very broad range of possibilities, wow.
In case I asked any stupid questions: yes, I'm new. Sue me.
Why, I'm glad to see so many enthusiastic replies . Let me add another question then:
- Is it possible to minimize TT7 while still having it use the voices to indicate the route (ie. to listen music and TT7 at the same time), and if not, does another navigation program support this?
It appears this should be possible, and in some cases I find it does work, in some cases it doesn't. If I find out what way to get both running is best, I'll edit it in.
- Learn to use opera and you will notice that it's WAY better than IE
- The background can not be changed on all TF3D pages (yet?)
- You can not add custom cityes to the TF3D Weather application
- I have learnd that I can use any mini-USB cabel for chargeing(don't think its recomended tho)
That's the questions I can answer, hope I got them right.
btw, try searching the forum

I already stated in the first post that many of these have already been answered, but that I'm listing them for completeness. Please, if you want to point the finger at anyone not reading, please point it at yourself. Especially for you, I've been so free to bolden the text I'm referring to in my first post.
Besides that, I must say the search function on this forum is pretty useless - thanks to people posting those same questions over and over. For one of my questions, I ended up going back to page 13. I'm glad this forum is so inviting to people with questions, I mean, after all, a forum is not for asking things, is it now? Of course not, that would be absurd. Especially seeing that to find the answers to some of these questions, you have to spend almost an hour digging through multi-page threads in a 50-page topic list. It would be extremely hard to answer those questions for someone who knows the answer to these, I know, but honestly, I take it someone can put in the heroic and epic effort to at least try? Now, if there were a sticky with questions answered too often, that'd be a first step in the good direction. A bit like the, may I add, excellent list of tweaks. Do you hear anyone ask for tweaks besides in that topic? Of course not, there's a practical resource for going through that.
Nevertheless, I would like the answers on the questions not answered yet. There are at least three I know have not been answered yet, or of which I could not find the answer. At least, thanks for the ironic reply.

this is a good example of life-death question. here is an answer: you should have it all the time, it is already there! duh!? look again...
i think you didn't notice that the great majority of posters here are fighting with really technical issues or waiting for help in critical issues, not to mention the ones that are developing tools and applications to make our diamond more reliable and fast. the forum is full with "after 1 week", "i have it for 2 weeks" complains and reviews. don't want to be mean or sarcastic (and it is hard for me not to) but could wait a little more or search a little more here and in other places?
I agree with tha-rami, the search function doesn't always provide the results you want and this is a forum i.e. a medium for a free and open exchange of views. Yes, a search is most peoples' first option but I for one simply don't have the time to spend hours and hours trawling through each page and topic.
Have a little patience and don't assume that a poster hasn't searched - two days ago the search function didn't work at all for me. If you can't be constructive in a reply then you have to question why you're replying at all!

Why, I'm glad to see so many enthusiastic replies . Let me add another question then:
- Is it possible to minimize TT7 while still having it use the voices to indicate the route (ie. to listen music and TT7 at the same time), and if not, does another navigation program support this?

On my previous Touch and Touch Dual and also Ameo devices ive had Tom Tom Navigator 6 minimised with music playing and the Voice directions have still worked.
I have John Cleese as the Voice on my device and its great listening to him chatting all over some dance music! hehe!
Regarding the custom city in Weather, see this thread... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=397599
I agree with both sides of the argument.
It took me a few seconds to search for Custom City part of the Forum, but ive also had problems searching for items.
It would be nice if there was a thread started, that literally was edited and updated with all the common questions. (I suppose thats what the Wiki's for, but i never look at it as its never usually up to date) no other posts were added just 1 long 1st post that had a list of all the useful threads in it and what they were.
It can be hard trawling through many pages of threads trying to find what you want, but in my experience its worth it! Some of the replys to people asking questions can be a bit sarcastic tho...
eg

Have you thought about Clicking on Search?
But i understand where these people are coming from, they have all searched through the forums and looked for what they want. Maybe it does take a little longer but im hoping that moderators will begin to tidy things up on here as there are alot of duplicate posts and information.
I think maybe the Forum should have a "Diamond Reviews" or "Reviews and Experiences" section added in. That way all the people that want to voice their opinions can do in their own part of the forum, plus this will free up some of the General Diamond discussions. Just an idea, please dont flame me for my opinion.
Anyway, I agree that XDA Developers is an excellent source of information for all things Diamond. All good! Glad its here and glad there are so many helpful people on here. Nice one!

If you already knew the answers and were really interested in "posting for completeness", you'd have posted the answers too. More to the point, how exactly is the community here best served by posting the same old questions yet again, under yet another post with a completely nondescript title?

Someone should come up with some internet service dedicated to searching this big ol-internet thingy we've got going on. they could call it "Google" or "Live Search". Something like that. They can even limit your search to just the site you want!

The arrogance is outstanding! There are just three sub-forums here for the Diamond so if you super smart phone geeks want to have your own sub-forum I suggest you start one - 'uber geek' or similar. This is a forum as previously stated and some seem to spend a great deal of time putting an individual down rather than pointing them in the right direction. Don't mention the search facility, it's poor. This evening I searched for 'GPS latitude' (I wanted to see if I could get raw lat & long without installing TomTom, Co-pilot or something similar). The result of the search pointed me to a thread of multiple pages - I got to page 13 before I gave up without any mention of anything relevant.
I give up quite a bit of my time suporting people via the Microsoft newsgroups for Vista, Outlook and wireless networks in the full knowledge that most posters don't have the knowledge that I do in these areas but, not once have I arbitarily decided that I'm smarter than them. No doubt in some cases I will be and in some cases I won't. But for your information, if qualifications are any measure of 'smartness' (and they're not!), I have a Bachelors and two Masters degrees and the next time your aircraft takes off late flying you to wherever it might just be because I'm searching a forum for the umpteenth hour.
Relax and help others, you may find that others will help you one day!

Why, thank you. I'm not even going to reply further to Mr Ray, as I've had quite some fun reading his reply. He seems to indeed be quite literal, and he appears very good at ignoring the very cause of a forum and for indeed seems to love using that to put 40 minutes into trying to make fun out of someone (which ended up in a fail, although I did chuckle at the "Is it now?" thing, which was, admittedly, rather funny). Now, you, you are pretty horrible as well, but luckily, you posted some answers.
I'm glad to see people agree with me, and I know why. I know that they know that even Mr Ray and you both started one day by asking a question here. I know that most likely, you've been treated the exact same way, or that you were so lucky running into a normal person who has more to do than wasting 40 minutes putting someone down. Well, try someone else for that, I usually just skip those posts.
Oddly, I have a problem with one of the questions - and the problem is: there is no battery indicator, and if there were, why in gods or any deity's name would I ask for it? I'm using TLR's ROM 1 on a Dutch Diamond. I play to flash it to TLR's ROM 2 as soon as I get Outlook on this PC to at least not lose my contacts, and will report whether or not it shows up then.
Glad to know that the battery charger is indeed an USB 5-pin connector. Also glad to know that there are sane people around. I was thinking of spending some more time on these forums, and seeing that the most active posters around seem to be half-intelligent morons that spend days lurking for threads that contains anything they can flame (a common problem amongst the more 'elite' users of forums, of whom some feel they're too important to waste time reading topic-titles of subcritical questions, but feel new people should click through all 50 pages to find an answer tucked away on page 27 of the topic because the search engine in vBulletin forums sucks big time. I studied some internet- and social psychology, no master in that, though), I think I actually should may I find some spare time. There are probably lots of people around with subimportant questions and the best way to help them, is to help them.
Luckily, there are people like Skier641 around, people who maybe do not know the answer, but do voice their opinion against those of the 'elite' who feel they're exactly that, effectively rendering them useless to both community and forum. Luckily, my questions have been answered rather satisfactory. I'll edit the answers into my first post for further reference. Maybe, some day, the search engine will actually work and yield someone this thread, after which they can quickly and easily find the answers on page 1.
I'm spending too much time on this. For your information, this took 6 minutes to write. I hope that Mr Ray and whatever-his-name-was-again are having 20 minutes of great fun using their reverse psychology on this subject. It's amazing how most likely, they'll spend tens of minutes writing a witty reply to this one, instead of taking the five minutes it would've taken to answer my questions. Or maybe, after I posted that line, they'll act smart and reply in one line. Alternatively, after that line, they may not post at all.
That makes 7 minutes.

No my friend, what is rude is to ask other people to waste their time because you are too lazy to do a little bit of research for yourself.
If you can help someone then help them, if you can't then don't. If you just don't want to help then you are just a user. The most repeated thing I have read in these forums is "use the search" if that is the only comment you can make then get lost! It is true in here that some who think they know something are just abrupt and rude to people who they think know less than themselves. Wisdom expresses itself in many ways, the least of which is "use the search".
Please use the search function.

Well said! I must say, as a new user (but a seasoned veteran of similar dev sites), I have been dismayed at how simple questions here from noobs like me, are frequently greeted with thinly veiled contempt and disgust.
I just made a prototype app for the Diamond that uses the G sensor, and would like to get some feedback from folks, but I'm reluctant to start a new thread on the topic in case I unintentionally incur the wrath of the the veterans here!

I'm sure you won't. Your thread will be most welcome.
However, I strongly feel that anybody should try and do some simple research before asking for help. I don't believe it's very polite (nor educational, for that matter) to simply write a post that essentially says: my time is too important to waste on trivial things like trying to find information, but since your time has no value to me, why don't you do that?
I often tried to find things when answering to others if the issue was not described in the forum. If, on the contrary, it has been discussed (and in many cases more than once), I believe that the Search button should be used.
It would be rude not to...
Actually I think it is pretty sad that most people have nothing better to do than to flame people in forums. If you see a question that is addressed somewhere else then either point the person in that direction or just don't answer. I have to agree that sometimes it is not that the person is using the search link but perhaps they are not searching correctly. This is a professional forum and we do not need unprofessional people in it so please play nice everyone.
A lot of the questions on here remind me of the 300ZX forum I used to go on... "I want to do a Twin Turbo swap, what do I need?" How many times do you think that question was answered? How many stickies do you think there were about that same question? Here's what the veterans are trying to make you do... Come into the forum, search for your answer first, then after you don't find it, ask. It prevents the forum from being cluttered and lets the people who really DO have unanswered questions to get answers more quickly. I'm not going to be mean or disrespectful about it, but please, if for nothing else, for the efficiency of helping each other, try to find the answer on your own before you ask a question.
It wouldn't be so bad if the Diamond forums were old with 100s of threads and the question being asked was last answered weeks ago. But the Diamond forums are relatively new and most of the questions being asked have already been asked on the current page or the page 2. You don't even need to use search to find the answer.
I've only been flashing for less than 2 weeks and so far have managed to find all the tools and guides I need by reading the posts on pages 1 and 2. I didn't need to go any deeper or use search.
So if anyone asks a question which has already been answered dozens of times then you should expect a few people to get annoyed. Afterall it takes less effort to read then for someone to type out an explanation again an again.
Also, a lot of questions are too vague, e.g. I can't flash the hardspl. Maybe if you spent a bit more effort saying what you have tried and exactly where the problem is then you might get more help.

Agree 100%. Yeah I get a bit miffed reading the same basic questions, but then when you do use the search engine, it brings back 100's of threads at times, which a new comer to the ppc world might not fully understand.
I had my first ppc phone back with the Blue Angel, and so many guys have helped me along the way since then. It's only the minority who say "Use the search!!!". But having said that, I think this is the least friendly/most abusive ppc forum. I get the general feeling that a few guys in here are above their stations...

1. new posts that contains or starts with:crappy, wtf (this is real special to me), what to buy, battery life, gps, what programs, who is better, iPhone, how to? (the answer in the manual), polls-bring the killer instinct in me.
2, new posts that contains or starts with:i can not, help, my diamond.., how to ?, where to find, i searched but...., confused-bring the mother Theresa buried deep in me.
3. new posts that contains or starts with:i developed, solved, news, new program, new game, how to (without question mark)-bring up the happy me together with "lets donate", let's be encouraging answer post.
this is not a graffiti wall. this is a place with rules (when you registered you accepted the rules) and don't start useless threads/posts is one of them.
respect the rules and by doing so you respect the place and it's inhabitants.
giving respect will bring you back respect.
interesting threads are pushed back in 2-nd and 3-thrd page by threads started just to chat. the forum is full with such posts started usually by a noobie that is soon joined but 5-8 other noobies that are happily chating about something that's only by far related with diamond. each posts, each answer is bumping the thread up.
since my diamond is today how i wished to be and i don't have to search (ooops, sorry for using dirty words) for answers or tweaks i found great pleasure in helping ppl that need help but only ppl that at least tried to solve, to search and help themselves first.

Very good points there KukurikU.
If the Diamond forum wasn't so full of posts which should be in the General forum then it would be easier to find Diamond specific answers.
And, like you said, while searching for an answer to a problem I've read other posts along the way which taught me things I never knew.

Why did this discussion get started in the Diamond Forum in the first place. Problem with Data Connection and Itjes Touch IT ROM

First of all it is a great ROM, i just love it!! So Thanks Itje.
My Carrier is o2 Germany and i encounter some problems with my data connection. IM+ keeps losing the connection, resulting in switching between on- and offline every 20 seconds. This is not only very disturbing while chatting, but after 20 times or so, my ICQ Account gets blocked for one hour for security reasons.
Same goes for Opera Mobile, when i google Something i get Connection Problems, after hitting refreh for 3 or 4 times, Pages load just fine.
I found out that other people have the same problem, especially people on T-Mobile and i searched for a possible solution, because it was mentioned that [email protected] posted a work-around but all i could find was a Proxy Setting for T-Mobile NL posted by him, so what i would like to ask is if anybody found a solution to fix this problem, because apart from the otherwise excellent ROM this really "grinds my gears" ;P
And please, if anyone is offended by this post or thinks i did not search enough, just use the "Back" Button in your Browser and i apologize for wasting 10 seconds of your day =)
I Just thought if this problem got solved already and many other users suffer the same conditions, a solution should be more accessable and not be hidden somewhere in 2500 Posts.
Thanks Guys and good night
keep posts in their relevant threads..
I agree! Even when I try to download e-mail and retrieve headers it keeps saying it loses the connection. I have to try a few times and "hope" it doesn't drop the connection. Same with Windows Live Messenger.
I REALLY like itje's ROM's but I think he does some radio/registry tweaking for radio connectivity, and somewhere down the road a tweak broke something
A real shame I have full signal 3G/HSPA or full signal EDGE and it keeps dropping the connection every half a minute or so...

well the old fashion way is the only way anyone's gonna tell you to do.
that or you get luky someone has the solution to the problem your facing and decide to post link or fix for ya.
like someone else said before, if you can read enough to flash a rom, then you can read enough to find a solution.
if every person had a problem and don't search (like your doing now) this forum would continue to clog.
you are causing the same bull sh*t cycle that you hate, by starting a thread KNOWING FULL WELL someone has a solution/problem for this rom.
you clog the forum by the same question someone else has probably ask as you have stated yourself.
above all YOU STARTED A STUPID THREAD ASKING THIS QUESTION THAT YOU SHOULD HAVE ASK IN THE RELEVANT THREAD AS FARDS WAS POINTING OUT.
you say a solution shouldn't be hidden? who in the hell is gonna organize every single problem bit by bit? that would cause a more clogged forum.
yes i agree the search engine is not perfect, it shows post of every single word you type in it. but that is the best it's gonna be for a search engine. the only thing better than that is searching your self.
i write down my own search engine. i start reading from begining of thread, take notes of the post# that has either problem or solution, page to know where i'v read up to, reading every single new post for a fix or solution. i keep reading until i'v got to the most current post, by then just sit and relax for what happens next.
everyone wants to find the answer fast but there is no quick way to it. if there was, the staff would have already done it BECAUSE THEY DON'T WANT TO DEAL WITH STUPID SH*T EITHER. why would they want to spend their free time dealing with answer issues when they've spent plenty of time on the rom itself?!!?!?! if you really love this rom that was GIVEN TO YOU, put in the extra time to just read and figure out the easy part. make time to do something you claim you love.
im sory but you had this coming to ya, im mad at the thread, even more so what you said in your thread.
DUDE MAN I CAN SH*T ON THIS THREAD ALL DAY BECAUSE THIS THREAD BECAME WORTHLESS WHEN IT WAS STARTED.
Okay, i know i had it coming but i never forced anyone to read the thread nor to post in it. If you get that mad with such threads just don't post, that also makes threads longer. And with not hidden in any threads i do not mean that nobody should search, no, by no means i do mean that. I just thought maybe it could become a sticky post or be written into the wiki. Believe me i searched but after reading 2 hours of posts that didn't help i just thought someone who knew the answer would be nice enough to post the link again.
But obviously i do not have to apologize to waste any of your time, because you seem to have the time to flame around a little bit and tell me things which i said you need not tell me and just leave this thread.
It's just funny how when a question gets asked several times 100 people do have the time to write thousands of lines just to flame at the people instead of using just 10 seconds to leave the thread (which would result in less posts for the search engine) or posting a solution (which would result in thread being closed). I am a guy who always uses the Search engine first and i definately don't give up after 5 minutes of search, but some problems are harder to find via the search than are others, that's the problem. And if i get the feeling that my solution is not to be found, what would you do? Just leave it at that, or post in a board that brilliantly helps everyone who needs help. Okay i can see that i should have posted in the right thread, not start a new one, but the outcome would have been exactly the same.
Now i know that some threads really are useless, but believe me, some people just are unfriendly and rather spend an eternity writing stupid comments than posting a solution, even if they already did so 2 or 3 times=) I helped on problems that were discussed several times myself and i even wrote personal messages with the solution instead of filling up the board. Personally, when i think a thread makes me mad, i leave it and i do not spend any more time of my life on reading/posting in this thread.
It was just a try, sorry. I did not mean to offend anyone and i'll just leave it at that and use the search engine again. But opposite to some other users, i WOULD post the link ANYTIME someone asks for it.
Thread can be closed/deleted, whatever.
I have the same issue and would like it resolved, if you find the answer please let me know
I have been searching the itje thread for around 1 hour and have yet to find an answer...

well the old fashion way is the only way anyone's gonna tell you to do.
that or you get luky someone has the solution to the problem your facing and decide to post link or fix for ya.
like someone else said before, if you can read enough to flash a rom, then you can read enough to find a solution.
if every person had a problem and don't search (like your doing now) this forum would continue to clog.
you are causing the same bull sh*t cycle that you hate, by starting a thread KNOWING FULL WELL someone has a solution/problem for this rom.
you clog the forum by the same question someone else has probably ask as you have stated yourself.
above all YOU STARTED A STUPID THREAD ASKING THIS QUESTION THAT YOU SHOULD HAVE ASK IN THE RELEVANT THREAD AS FARDS WAS POINTING OUT.
you say a solution shouldn't be hidden? who in the hell is gonna organize every single problem bit by bit? that would cause a more clogged forum.
yes i agree the search engine is not perfect, it shows post of every single word you type in it. but that is the best it's gonna be for a search engine. the only thing better than that is searching your self.
i write down my own search engine. i start reading from begining of thread, take notes of the post# that has either problem or solution, page to know where i'v read up to, reading every single new post for a fix or solution. i keep reading until i'v got to the most current post, by then just sit and relax for what happens next.
everyone wants to find the answer fast but there is no quick way to it. if there was, the staff would have already done it BECAUSE THEY DON'T WANT TO DEAL WITH STUPID SH*T EITHER. why would they want to spend their free time dealing with answer issues when they've spent plenty of time on the rom itself?!!?!?! if you really love this rom that was GIVEN TO YOU, put in the extra time to just read and figure out the easy part. make time to do something you claim you love.
im sory but you had this coming to ya, im mad at the thread, even more so what you said in your thread.

Believe me i searched but after reading 2 hours of posts that didn't help i just thought someone who knew the answer would be nice enough to post the link again.

what you apologising for? have you been told off by the moderators? NO! ya can post whatever you like if ya feel like it. you have no reason to apologize at all! you haven't broken any rules nor offended anyone! in most threads wen people encounter problems they seem to post the same issue over and over again and fixes may have already been posted earlier! that seems to annoy people as some others tend not to search prior to posting. sometimes i can see how peops feel as these threads are quite long especially on anything itje releases. dont know whether you searched or not but in future maybe you should ok!

i agree that what i post is annoying, same as post like his are too for starting this thread. you say what right i have to flame at him? i can ask you the same thing, what rite do you have for addressing my issue i don't have at you? that's rite Fards is on the touch it team, so he does have the authority to say something. does that mean only the team of the rom is allow to post only? NOOOOO all and anyone can, if it's either helping, complaining, or flaming that's why its a forum. im no brown noser i just pointed to fards post because that's what i would have said as many would too. all he said was go to that relevant thread, logically wouldn't you say the same DAM thing?!!!? dude your just as much of a mindless f*ck here as i am for not minding your own business lol. you didn't post anything fix or links, neither did i. you flame at me for flaming at him, and non of it is our dam business to begin with. you agree that he shouldn't have started a thread and should have search, guess what soo did i. soo shingers roll up your blunt and flame on that, chill the F*ck out son. you ain't no better than me by what you posted here. atleast i gave him my layout plan how i read the forums and take notes. maybe that can encourage him to start his own search plan. wtf help did you do? nothing!!! let's keep going on and on to see who wins this battle of words and continue to clog up this forum... loser
btw im patiently waiting for yall's 6.5+Rhodium rom. i like how the topaz+6.5 came out, pretty stable.

A real shame I have full signal 3G/HSPA or full signal EDGE and it keeps dropping the connection every half a minute or so...

im dealing with this problem all the time on any custom rom. the only solution for me is to use the stock rom, i have tried every other way/solution, none of them work for me.
I also have the same problem.
I use IRC a lot on my X1, and with Itje's ROMs, pocketIRC disconnects itself in 30 seconds or so.
I have read through the Touch-It9 thread and also used the search function without coming up with any answers.
I would be grateful if someone could simply post a link to the relevant fix.
I'm currently using smarberg's TouchX V7, no such problems with this ROM.
