1. Pull out the stylus.
2. Use the stylus to press the RESET button located at the opening of the stylus compartment. Your device restarts and displays the Home screen.
HTC Touch Diamond hard reset
You can also perform a hard reset (also known as a full reset). A hard
reset should only be performed if a normal reset does not solve a system
problem. After a hard reset, the device is restored to its default settings—
the way it was when you first purchased it and turned it on. Any programs you installed, data you entered, and settings you customized on your device will be lost. Only Windows Mobile® software and other pre-installed programs will remain.
Warning! Your device will be set back to factory default settings. Make sure that any additional installed programs and/or user data have been backed up before you perform a hard reset.
To perform a hard reset
1. Pull out the stylus.
2. With the device turned on, press and hold the VOLUME DOWN and
ENTER buttons, then press the RESET button with the stylus tip.
3. Release the RESET button, but continue pressing the VOLUME DOWN and ENTER buttons until you see this message on the screen:
4. Release the VOLUME DOWN and ENTER buttons, then press the
VOLUME UP button to perform the hard reset, or press any other
button to cancel the reset.
Clear Storage
You can also use Clear Storage to reset your device back to factory default settings and/or format the internal storage.
1. On the Home screen, slide to the Settings tab and then tap All
Settings.
2. On the System tab, tap Clear Storage.
3. In the drop-down menu, select whether to Clear Storage only,
Format internal storage only, or Clear storage and format internal storage.
4. Enter “1234” and then tap Yes.

I did my hard reset last night but choose the second method as the first one wasnt doing it...its an annoying way to do because you have to keep both buttons down and then somehow press the rest button on the back...i gave up after a few tries and did it the second way.
Nice guide though...perhaps the Mods should make it a sticky...saves people from asking and making new threads all the time.

yep.. not so easy to press 2 buttons and the reset key..

Hard reset is it set to factory or delivery settings .....
I get code from nokia for E51 to reset to factory settings
hard reset was not factory set.

Thank you SO MUCH...
This was very very helpful for me as I had somehow cleaned up my memory and couldn't do a hard reset cause it was giving me the page with the red, green, blue and white colors. I almost lost all the hopes for my brand new HTC Diamond, but somehow found this thread and it fixed the problem...
Thank you again and god bless...

very useful thank you very much for the post.

Start Menu Problem... Please Help!!!

Hi
I bought a MDA Vario last week and installed Ftouchflo v4.1 and Slithers SCPLC++ Cube and it appears to have messed up my Start Menu.
I have a white start menu with just icons on it when I open up the start menu and no names beside the icons. Also the start menu is much longer than usual with icons repeated 3 or 4 times.
I uninstalled Ftouchflo and deleted the cube application, did numerous soft resets and still no joy. I also saw in another thread that installing the large start menu fixes the problem but it didn't for me as the links on the large start menu didn't work properly
Has anyone got a fix for this? can i replace the start menu with something else that will fix this problem?
also if i do a hard reset to eliminate the problem will my phone be simlocked again? it was originally locked to t-mobile and I don't want it to be simlocked to that again.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Hard resets shouldn't lock your phone again. Especially if you've flashed to a different ROM.
As for your start menu problem, try Quick Menu (attached).
I always use this on any ROM I use, it's miles better than the start menu that comes with WM, and there's loads of options too. Give it a go, and see if this solves your start menu issue.
No install required, simply unzip the folder to your phone/SD card and run the .exe
thanks very much.
I am still running the original rom at the moment... i'm tenative about flashing a new rom as this is my first WM phone (coming from a SE W950) so its a big knowledge leap for me so i'm just installing apps one by one. I won't hard reset just yet
I'll try the alternative start menu you attached this evening as i can't use active sync on my office computer. thanks again for replying so quickly
The White Start Menu is a bug in the cube 51 version, supposed to be fixed when 52 is released. It is because of the plus (+) symbols in the recent programs list.
Try clearing this (http://www.pocketpcfaq.com/raj/ClearRecent.html)
The enlarge start menu Cab will be in the Dev and Hacking forum in the extracted HTC cabs thread.
Thanks
Dave
Generic white Icons in start menu
I have a weird issue with the start menu on the Tilt, All the apps that I have installed to the memory card and have pinned to the start menu appear with the generic white icon. I never had this problem with the 8525.
I know some people say to never install apps to the memory card but the apps work fine just the start menu icon is the problem.

On occasion, the icons will show as normal then go back to generic white. I'm sure it all has something to do with being installed on the memory card.

Hard reset tutorial!

Hi everybody!
I'm very new to HTC and WM6.1 but I know hard reset is not that complex.
Anyway I saw two video-tutorials.
In the first the guy only pressed the two buttons and then followed the on screen indications, in the other video the guy used the stylus and the two buttons, but the result lookes the same... are there any differences?
Thanks a lot! (I don't want to destroy my Kaiser )

Search and ye shall receive, all answers to most questions can be found in the Kaiser wiki, including this one.
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Kaiser_Resets
You can also do a software generated hard reset by pressing" clear storage " in your program menu.
Ok thanks a lot!
I read somewhere that a hard reset made without the stylus and the two buttons (the "hardware" way to do it) is not safe.
Bye!
To hard reset, make sure you've backed up all the files you want using your Sprite back-up.
Then hold down the two buttons, (one above the explorer symbol and the other above the envolope symbol) Hold these down and stick stylus in the reset whole right and above usb port, and hold for about 3 -5 seconds (not just push and release) Hold until screen comes on white with blue lettering saying-
"This operation will delete all your personal data, and reset all settings to manufacturer default. Press send to restore manufacturer default, or press other keys to cancel."
to start the reset you just hit the green phone symbol, it will do some seleteing , then ask you to hit ok to boot (or something along those lines) and you just hit the green phone symbol again.
just email me at [email protected] if you have any other questions.
Thanks for the support!!
I did it! All right!
Good to see you got help here, but I must shoot in here that you really should open youre user manual wich the phone came whit. If you dont have that this is wery wery well described in wiki and +50 other treads in there. I am not trying to be a complete d**k here, but its sad to see the quality of this board has fallen so much that this isnt a 13+ flame tread; in before lock ect. lol.
Seriously, you should make a bether effort.
Its actually harder to google this problem and not get a solution than getting the answer youreself.

Do you mean not safe as in playing Dance Dance Revolution with a rattlesnake?
oooh that picture freaks me out.
I'm sorry guys I didn't think about the user manual, and with Google you must know that sometimes you find very "generic" guides that can lead you to fail. I just wanted the help of some experts, but you're right, hard-reset is soo easy... Next time I'll search better! Thank you again..
Bye!
P.S. Sorry for bad English... I'm Italian Bye!

Screen broke.

I pulled my nook out of my backpack and the screen is broke. Not the glass but some internal part, theres just lines and more lines. I was on the phone with barnes and noble and we trouble shooted and they're going to send me a new one. One problem it's rooted, how can I factory reset it? Even though the screen is broken it'll still turn on and can get into adb, any ideas?

ADB into the Nook.
Make file system read/write go to / and type
rm -r * (wipe it).
Are you on the NOOK or the NOOKcolor?
This sounds like a problem that occurs frequently with the original NOOK's eInk screens, for no apparent reason. It is just some glitch with the eInk technology that causes them to short out like that. If so, it is covered under warranty, just perform a factory reset using the power button.
If you are on the NOOKcolor, I haven't seen this issue, but you can still set it back to factory default in a similar manner utilizing the power button/volume down/ "n" button combo to force the reset.
You can find more in depth instructions on how to perform the reset on the interwebs.
Hope this helps.
Or use the first posters method. That should work too lol.

[App] Older Ai Type keyboard 2.2.0.4 works better than the current ver-on our Droid

Yet the newest version 5 has many bugs on our Droid. The suggestion bar will not show in a browser. The resizer disappears after using. The newest version erases the backup when you reset to defaults while not so with version 2.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.aitype.android
Update v2204 is attached.
I just tried all day & 100% indeed. Nearly anyway, I can't get the personal shortcuts to work. The current Play emoji plugin works.
The resizer works even in a browser.
Makes me question what happened with development after v2. Lollipop is a good guess.
Installing F-Droid & keep the app chooser "open" letting you choose F-droid or Play. Then just touch the screen to kill the app of the day.
Be mindful of the cut button in the middle of the 3 mode bar. It will clear a long comment with an inadvertent touch. There is an undo in the utilities button.
Bugs
Also "expand the textbox" kills the suggestion bar.
Sometimes the suggestion bar hides & you must close the KB with the back Navigation key & reopen by touching the input field.
The ”make it my own"/urban experience (lol WTF is that) is neat to get the popup & key pressed color to linger- I always thought to popup went way too fast & still does with this mod but lingering key color is better than the popup. Trouble is with all these screen mods it is easy to out-type our processor. Edit disabled the popup completely-just the key fade is better.
I have attached this popup-less settings backup with some other mods.
I included my backup settings to put in Android/data.

In Play store there are poor reviews for the new version (good reviews for this version) on our phone! On most phones the reviews are poor for the newer versions.
This top row has a 3 mode button for numbers, special characters or editing-a delete key & much more. As mentioned above the cut key can be a disaster at times but I have saved my posts with undo key from the 3way button.
Click on ai.type.zip.txt & copy Mega link to download.
Install but do not launch/open.
Don't bother with setup helper by launching the app after install. Next go settings/ language & input, enable the app, put the backup in sd-android/data, Go to settings, language & input, settings, prediction, restore data.
You need to disable (settings/app/) the stock keyboard & reboot too.
Download F-droid from Play, to stop the app of the day nag.
Do not select a default. Do nothing, just tap the KB to clear.
This is still my fav KB, the copy, paste & other editing buttons being right on the top row is nice when the auto appearing ones won't show themselves.

Question Media volume limit interferes with absolute Volume

When i connect to Car stereo via Bluetooth (what forces absolute volume) the phone shows Volume limit warning. I can not get past it until disconnected.
So i have to deactivate Volume limit beforehand.
Is that a known issue and is Samsung going to fix that?
Your browser is not able to display this video.
Clear system cache.
Network reset.
Developer options>bluetooth, try some of those options
Thanks for the response.
Network reset had no effect.
Not sure how to clean system cache. I could clean cache on individual apps, tho i dont know which ones.
And I'm not familiar with Bluetooth Developer Options other than 'disable absolute volume' - what i don't want.
Off the boot menu, Samsung change access to it I think, Google it. Try that first.
Double check all sound and bt settings including hidden menus.
Try these and the Absolute Volume as well.
Play with it... Android's wuv attention.

Unless you did a major firmware upgrade, suspect malware, or think hidden user settings were altered* or corrupted I would avoid doing a factory reset as the issue is likely to reoccur. Instead try to find the root cause.
It's likely a settings issue. Try resetting the other device as well after the network reset so the whole mess reinitalizes.
Hack away at it... Samsung's have weird little glitches sometimes like with the spen bt. They resolve themselves for no apparent reason by just playing with them, repeatedly. Never to return.
*poorly written 3rd party apps can do this occasionally, and uninstalling them doesn't fix the issue. A factory reset will clear that if other means fail.
Spontaneous data partition corruption is rare; single event upset can effect any of the firmware or software. A inappropriate setting though is very common.
Thanks for the Background informations. I see where you are coming from and in that spirit I tried everything you mentioned. Including cache wipe from recovery mode, erase some suspicious apps, played with the Options. No success yet.
I guess i keep at it.

Try a hard reboot (simulates pulling the battery) too. Sometimes this clears glitches but normally shouldn't be needed.
