Email - Attachments - Not Downloading - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV General

Hi everyone,
I just can´t download the attachments of emails I receive...I make the sync, I receive the emails, but when I try do download the attachments it just don´t work (it seems that its going to download, it show that "download arrow" aside de attachment, but nothing happens and the "download arrow" just goes away...).
Can you help me with it?

Nobody?
I have just installed a new ROM and nothing...its seems to be hardware problem, and that really sucks.
With my Touch Cruise and with the same configuration, everything just works fine. With my friend´s Diamond, everythings works fine either.
However, with mine it´s impossible to download email´s attachment...damn...

Have you checked your email settings??...if not check there...click on the account your having probs with and go through the settings ie advanced settings and there should be something there regarding downloading attachments.
For my gmail account, i have all attachments downloaded when i get new emails.

downloading first all headers and only after you choose witch attachments you are interested in and make anther send\receive you'll get them.

Thank you for your response.
However, this is not a settings problem. I have checked and re-checked all the settings. Actually, the settings on my Diamond are exactly the same I had on my Cruise, and are the same I have inserted into another Diamond.
It's really strange...always when I try to download attachments it shows "error synchronizing". I have already choosen the external memory to be the place to file the attachments, but it didn't worked.
On the attachments folder at the external memory it only shows some "empty" icons, but there are no attachments downloaded over there.
It is so frustrating...damn...

That's exactly what I do. On my Cruise it was the same...the header first...than choosing the files, and after all that pressing the send/receive. But this is not working with the Diamond.
It starts the procedure of downloading the files, and after all it finishes the procedure without downloading it. It also clear the "downloading arrow", as if the download had been finished...but it's not...

Exactly the same thing happens with the TyTN II in certain circumstances.
As far as I can tell the problem only arises with HTML mail and even then it seems to depend upon the mail program that sent the message attachment. If I receive an HTML message sent from Outlook by one of my clients I can download the attachment but if I send myself the same email from Outlook on my own machine the attachment disappears.
Judging by the size of the email (on the TyTN at least) the attachment is in fact downloaded but is just not visible.
Try sending yourself or getting someone to send you an email in text format with and attachment and my guess is that you will be able to download and see it.

Thank you mate. I have just tryed this, but it also didn't worked...I'm totally lost...I just don't know what to do, and I'm really planning to smash the Diamond against my bedrooms wall....hehehehehe...

Nobody? No clues?

I have already updated Diamond´s ROM, and nothing happened.
I have also called the HTC support in the US, and no way of getting the emails´ attachments downloaded...damn...

I have changed my ROM at least 4 times...now I'm using the 137.456.2, and the attachments still not downloading....frustrating....

Guys, this is my last posting regarding this matter...I promisse!!!
Unfortunatelly, this attachment issue that I have faced is too much for me. I have tryed to change the ROM...I've changed the settings...I've prayed the Lord and I've entered into an agreement with the Devil itself...and nothing happened.
The Diamond's behavior is not exactly what I've thought a up-to-date device should have.
Shame on HTC...that has acted such as a minor company...
Therefore, I'l have to get bach to Sony...Xpria here I come!!!!!!!!!

SOLUTION!!
Hello,
I too noticed this issue, and found this thread this evening in attempting to resolve it. GOOD NEWS – cracked it!
I had exactly the same issues as you, and I also had multiple Windows Mobile 6.1 devices to test with (including 2 x HTC Diamonds). All WM6.1 devices had the same issue, although an old WM5 device (original HTC Touch in fact) worked fine.
This led me to think it could well be a backend Exchange 2007 configuration issue - and indeed it was: basically a Exchange 2007-set policy to which only the newer devices would adhere to.
Very simple to change:
1. From your Exchange 2007 server go into the ‘Exchange Management Console’
2. Open up the ‘Client Access’ pane which is beneath the ‘Organisation Configuration’ tree
3. Right click on your defined rule (‘Default’ by, erm, default!) and click ‘Properties’
4. Go to the ‘Sync Settings’
5. You need to tick the (now rather obvious!) ‘Allow attachments to be downloaded to the device’
6. Click OK
7. FIXED!
FYI. when I first looked at this a few months ago, ie. when I first migrated my test platform over to Exchange 2007, I assumed here I was defining the default download policy for a given Windows Mobile device, ie. the same as you enter on the device (when selecting how much of a message header to load, how many days/weeks of past calendar etc).. where-as instead on further attention to detail it transpires you are simply giving permission / setting limits here in the Exchange 2007 interface and then you setup your actual preferences on the device itself.
Hope this all makes sense.. and brings an end to your sleepless nights!
Si

Nice.
Thank you Mate.
I have found this other solution, which I have apllied and worked nicelly:
"I have a 800w with Windows mobile 6.1 connecting to a 2003 Exchange
SP2 server. Everything is syncing just fine with active sync but when
I try to open a attachment I get nothing. It looks like its
downloading but never turns the icon to a real icon.
(...)
Well after another couple of hours on the phone with Microsoft we have
at least identifies the problem. The IIS server we have OMA on is
also hosting web services for Citrix. The Citrix licensing service
uses Tomcat for most of its functionality and when we disabled the
isapi_redirect.dll, the phone was able to download again. Looks like
its off to Citrix or Apache for the fix unless someone out there knows
of a fix. "
My problem was exactly the above: Citrix + WinMobile 6.1 + 2003 Exchange Server.
See ya!

How did you disable the dll?
How exactly did you disable the dll?
Did you Prohibit "Tomcat Servlet Engine" under Web Service Extension?
I found this blog that details the issue, however the link to his patched dll is broken:

help question to Gmail
I just sent a help question to Gmail support, let's see what comes up
I am using FlexMail 2007 on my WM6 device with Gmail IMAP4 and all of the message body appears without a problem, regardless of the format of the original message (plain, rich, HTML), so it might be the WM6 e-mail client that is causing the problem.
Google answer
Here is the Google mail support team answer:
Hello,
Thank you for your report.
We are aware of this problem, and our engineers are working diligently to
find a solution. We apologize for any inconvenience this issue may have
caused.
Sincerely,
The Google Team
Let's hope they get it fixed soon!
gmail & html mail
I also have this problem.
Gmail that is html or rich text will not show on my Kaiser. if its plain text it works fine, otherwise its a blank screen.
Also just noticed that I received an email with a pdf attachment. the attachment supposedly opened up just fine but the pdf file had the lines (it was an invoice) but no text whatsoever.
I sure hope Gmail fixes this soon, its a royal pain.
Anyone have better luck if you use the POP option with Gmail instead of the IMAP option ??
POP3 works fine for me.
Yeah this problem has been around ever since they've used imap. pop works fine, but when you send a message, it will appear as one of your inbox items.
I run the same setup, but I run gmail imap on 2 mobile devices, the TyTN II and a Nokia E65.
The E65 works well by downloading the header and then if i want to view the email it gives me the option to download the content.
The TyTN downlaods some of the emails but not others.
I went this morning into Manage Folders and then Select and Hold so that the sub menu appears and then select folder options, this brings up another menu page that gives the option to download header or full email content.
I have not managed to test this as i only have issues with emails from facebook ironically but it might solve the problem.

Problem with POP3 email attachments

I am collecting my mail from a POP3 mailbox but am unable to view or open any attachments.
The header of the message is received and there is a link in the message that gives me the option to download the full message and any attachments. When I click this the message changes to say that the attachment will be downloaded the next time I do a "Send and Receive".
On selecting "Send and Receive" the phone connects and appears to download the attachment. I say this because if it is a large attachment the phone says it is downloading for some minutes. If it is a small attachment the time is much shorter.
Either way when the download is complete any text in the message is visible but there is no sign of an attachment.
If I use ActiveSync to collect the same mail from my PC all the attachments are visible and can be opened.
Any thoughts or solutions would be greatly appreciated.

Jonathan - thanks for the response.
I don't believe the data plan is the problem - I have 3GB a month allowance and can easily download files etc. via the web browser.
Perhaps if anyone else uses a POP3 mailbox they could confirm whether or not they can pick up attachments.
I can say that I can have received, opened, and viewed PDF's on my phone so it can work. I'm sure you've checked, but in the email account Menu>Tools>Options>"your pop3 account" go thru the steps until the last one before finish and make sure that the "message download limit" drop down box is set to "Entire Message", (choices are 2, 5, 20, 50k, Headers Only, Entire Message).
Good Luck!
Reme - thanks so much for the reply
I take it you are talking about mail that has been received from a POP3 mail server rather than from Exchange or via ActiveSync.
If so then it is very strange. The message size in my Inbox would seem to indicate that the attachment has been downloaded but there is no link to open or save it.
Unless anyone else has any ideas I suppose will have to try a factory reset.
...was this issue ever properly resolved as am getting exactly the same problem with my XDA MiniS/Qtek 9100? Problem started out of the blue some days ago and has nothing to do with tariff/network settings or email settings on the device. The bizarre thing is that if I compile an email with attachment on my other WM device (XDA IIi) and use the MiniS to collect the email (POP3) then all OK! (and vice versa). Any emails with attachments that are not compiled and sent by a WM device work on the XDA IIi but no longer work on the MiniS - bizarre....
Same symptoms as thread author... download an entire email which I know has attachment and the message size is correct but no paperclip icon on the message in the inbox list and no attachment file icon in the message header itself - just an empty message (except for any text that might be in the body of the message).
Have tried hard reset and restoring from a full back-up but the backup simply recreates the problem as no doubt the screwy file/registry entry/whatever is preserved in the back-up making process. Am trying to avoid complete hard reset without a restore as do not want to lose my Contacts/Calendar data and the laborious process of reinstalling all my programs - some of which will then need activating again due to DRM licences.
Oh, and I have tried deleting the email account and recreating it but the problem will not go away...

I'm at my wits end with email.

Hi guys,
I don't mean to vent frustrations here but I'm becoming increasingly disappointed with my T-Mobile Vario III (WM6).
My main issue lies with the email capabilities and its seeming inability to work consistently and correctly in my hands. Initially, I was not able to see the link for email attachments let alone download them.
I learned that I needed Windows Live to accomplish this. So I downloaded the CAB file, installed it, synced it with my hotmail inbox and everything appeared to be ok. Wrong.
I was able to click the attachment, which happened to be an .xls file, and download it. However, it revealed itself in 'Mail Attachments' on my SD card. Lets say the file was called Book1.xls, when I open Mail Attachments, the file is there but it has been renamed to '340000d2-330000d4' and is unrecognisable to Excel Mobile. The file is ~ 730kb. The phone suggests I go to Excel Mobile and try to open it through the application. This doesn't seem to be achievable.
What's more, when I go back to my inbox and try and re-download the file, it won't let me. It tells me it 'Cannot display the attachment'. Occasionally it will also say it 'Failed to sync folders'.
This whole process seems so much simpler on my friend's N95. Go straight to hotmail, download attachment, open with Spreadsheet and bang, it's there. Why can't the Vario III be like that?
I apologise in advance if I'm being incompetant but surely it shouldn't be this fiddly.
Thanks.
So if I understand you correctly, you can't view/open email attachments in your pocket outlook.
If that's the case, (if you're installed the latest windows cab), do have the latest version of "Windows Live" and/or Pocket MS Office '07?
Perhaps you should use a different email client (Fleximail, Profimail, (not free).
I also suggest you try the link in my signature "General Software Questions". That way, more people will be able to see and answer your question(s)
If I read things right, you are trying to download your email from Hotmail?? If this is right, then to be honest the best solution is to change to a proper pop3 address (Gmail for example).
I use Gmail on my Tytn II and have no problems downloading attachments etc using the built in Outlook client, the only thing I have done is to get another program to build a "check email" schedule.
If you aren't using Hotmail, then ignore this!
Thanks a lot guys, I appreciate the responses.
I was using Hotmail in a vain attempt to retrieve my attachments. After about 4 or 5 hours of research and effort, I decided to give up. I tried using Gmail and it works fine, as long as I don't use the html version of mobile Google. Normal Gmail allows me to save the excel file to my documents and open it with Excel Mobile.
I am satisfied, I suppose.
Thanks again.
I think you would be better of activating pop3 on Gmail and using the built in Outlook and not going through a browser, but its up to you.
If using gmail, I would enable IMAP on your gmail account, then set it up as a regular IMAP email on the Kaiser. Much better then POP on a mobile device.
I think the problem with the poster is he's opening the files directly from the mail attachment folder which is where Pocket Outlook puts the attachments with whatever name it wants to use.
What you have to do is go to your email and you'll see the attachment there with its correct name. Click and hold, choose save as and pick the location. Then you can browse to the location using windows explorer or excel and open it from there. Just like a pc.
Yeah, I worked it out: Don't use Hotmail. I configured it to use Gmail IMAP and it works fine. Now I just have the multitude of other bugs to deal with...
Thanks again.

Link mail screen to outlook mail

On the TF3D sceen, is there any way to link the mail button to the outlook mail instead of the "internet" mail?
Thanks
Err... If you set up your Outlook mail.. it would work.
If you set up your Outlook Mail and KEEP the Internet Mail (as well), then you will have both of them being accessed from the TF3D mail button (two envelopes on the right, instead of one)
If you set up your Outlook Mail and DELETE the Internet Mail, then you will have one envelope on the right .. and THAT will be the one for Outlook Mail.
To set up your Outlook mail, Tap on TF3D mail button
Then tap on Inbox
Then - Menu - Tools - Options
Now, tap on Outlook E-mail and enter the settings.
I actually tried to configure the Outlook Mail account (time pass) for gmail.
I couldn't get it to work.. (for some reason - sure I did something wrong).
Tried to sync Outlook Mail with my PC using Active Sync... some certificate validity issues came up..
Then, just decided to chuck it.
Had two envelopes appearing on the side.. just went ahead and cleared up everything from the registry - related to the mail set ups and set up my Gmail as the Internet Mail again.
I have set up my Outlook, and as you can see from screenshot, it's got mail in it, however, if I delete my POP3 email, the TF3D screen shows no accounts in the mail screen...
Anyone got any idead how to link the Outlook Inbox to the TF3D Mail screen??
Your email notification icon at the top looks quite suspicious... do you have another email client (such as BB Connect or Intellisync Mobile Suite) installed? I used Intellisync before and this is the icon I received and it also wasnt appearing in TF3D.
Let me know if you are using Intellisync- there is a work-around

It's much better than Outlook Mobile isn't it? Nice to have REAL push mail
The reason TF3D isnt working is because it only recognises Outlook Mobile and not IMS and you do not have an Outlook account setup. The workaround (I'm hoping to find a better way) is to create an Outlook account through Activesync/Mobile Device Center on your PC. I've done some tests and there is no conflict between the two.
The downside is that there is no real integration between TF3D/Outlook and IMS so IMS is essentially working in Parallel. What I am trying to figure out is how to map TF3D to IMS so that when you click the envelope it takes you to IMS and not Outlook. At least with this workaround, you will get the best of both worlds with TF3D showing you your emails and IMS giving you the real push mail functionality which Outlook lacks.
Let me know if it works for you

Excellent. I'm now showing the envelope in the Mail TF3D screen. I presume that with this workaround, all I will ever get is the "Click to view message" message, and not the first few lines of the message that you get with a POP3 account or a proper outlook account. (see attached)
From reading your message I am also guessing you are using version 8 or 9 of IMS. I currently look after 3 servers all using varieties of version 6. I have just created a new server with version 9 which installs the "intellisync" suite of application on the device. I've tried it on an XDA Exec, XDA Orbit (and some nokia and Sony Ericsson devices). I haven't tried it on the Diamond yet. How is it on that?

Correct.
I am using version 9 which works like a charm. I work for the local operator here in Dubai and am currently one of a few internal testers for IMS before we launch it as a service. I find it to be very functional and light on resources- highly highly recommended. Beats all competition including Blackberry (I've also set it up to get a personal POP3 account in much the same way as BB Internet does)
As for how much of the message appears in the TF3D, this depends on how much you tell Outlook to download of the message- all you need is a couple of KBs at the most to get the first few lines in the envelope.
Hey guys
I'm sorry but this will be probably an off-topic and stupid question but when you receive an email on your Diamond does it look like on your pc and can you view emails that have lots of graphics in them ??
I'm really sorry but this is my first WM device and i would like to know things like that
It depends on what kind of email account you are setting up on the device. If it's an Exchange account, the server has to be running Exchange 2007 for you to get HTML email on your device. Internet Email and IMAP display HTML without any problems.
well i've been using maill2web and it just emails didn't look like they should. Maybe you can tell me where can i find a good exchange server or something like that ??

Well... there's many to choose from depending on your needs and budget (not sure of any free ones but you'll probably find some out there- although possibly not because Exchange is not cheap to install or maintain). Anyway a simple Google will give you many results http://www.google.ae/search?hl=en&q=hosted+exchange&meta=
Anyone found the solution yet ?
Noticed the solution to sync to a phony account - But I would really prefer to sort this via a registry tweak or similar.
I need to roll this out to a large number of corporate users, so the phony tweak is kind of hard to roll out compared to a registry modification.
Anyone?...
Its kind of frustrating to see the number of new emails in the notification area of TF3D but not actually being able to use the TF3D envelope function.

M

www.hotmail.com on Diamond

I use my hotmail all the time, and have been using it on my Diamond for the last 4 months successfully.
Yesterday I logged into Hotmail on my PC and I got a message about Hotmail has changed... better layout etc - but since this I can't get it to work on my Diamond.
I go to www.hotmail.com and then enter my user and password. I get the inbox screen, but it never fully loads (the green bar is about 1/3rd of the way). I can see my new messages in the inbox, but if I click on them nothing happens. Can someone else try this and tell me if its just coincidently collided with my update to the new Dutty 2.8 ROM - or have Microsoft added Flash content into the Hotmail page or something?
I've also tried Opera Mini - which is exactly the same making me think its not my Dutty ROM.
I'll be a bit miffed if I can't check my Hotmail anymore on my Diamond, as its one of the main things I need an 'internet' phone for.
Right... I've now set up the Windows Live application - so that my Hotmail comes into my Outlook. It seems to work well, but when I do a Send/Recieve from within Outlook it connects via my GPRS / 3G rather than my Wi-Fi (which is connected at the time).
If I do a sync from within the Windows Live app, it syncs by Wi-Fi.
Its a bit annoying as I just got a message with a 2mb attachment. I try to open it, and even though I'm connected by Wi-Fi, it still tries to downlaod the attachment by GPRS!
I've looked through all the settings, but can't see anything? Any ideas?
I've just tried it and got similar results; I got the "we've changed the design a bit" message then my inbox loaded up fine, but I could click on any of my email messages. It was like the page just wasn't registering the clicks at all.
It's not a complete killer for you though as you can access your Hotmail inbox using the Windows Live application on the Diamond which, as I understand it, will skip the web interface entirely.
EDIT: Sorry dude, I was still typing when you made your second post so I didn't notice that you'd already found the Windows Live app. I don't use it myself so can't offer any help with the issues you're having there.

Thanks for trying it. I don't know what they've done in their changes, but its pretty annoying!
I'm probably better using the Windows Live program anyway as it will be quicker anyway. Its just annoying that it wants to connect to GPRS instead of using my Wi-Fi!
made a post in the general section as it seems to affect other WMs aswell?
