Using WiFi on school's network - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III Themes and Apps

In order to use the WiFi at my school, you have to have an authentication program installed that checks a series of settings on your computer before it allows you to connect to the internet. To my knowledge, there's no mobile version offered. Any suggestions on how to get around this or use the program on the Tilt? I'm utterly stumped.

i guess its using certificates to connect you, try to implement those certificates. i dont exactly know how, maybe someone has done this before

go to your schools IT dept. and and give them your MAC Address...the MAC address can be found in the wireless LAN settings and tapping Advance ..its should be there

In case you're talking about SecureW2, there is a WM version

Worked fine on my PDA at my school.

S730-Notebook with Vista-No internet

I have a notebook, with MS Vista, and with mobile internet (pcmcia card). A tried to connect internet via s730 through mobile device center, but i can't.
I tried with WI-FI: connect to my notebook (ad hoc connection) but i can't use internet.
I tried it with free hotspot and it works.
I don't understand. What can i do?
How are you trying to get online?
You want the s730 do connect to your data network and share that? Or do you want to dial it into the internet (someone got that working on here) or are you connected through your notebook already and want to share that to your s730?

I've never been able to get this to work, I don't even know if you can or not.
I am confused.
Do you want your s730 to get on the Internet by connecting to your laptop? Can you just use a usb cable then you can use internet connection through laptop onto phone.
If I understand you correctly your laptop is what is online and you want it to pass the connection onto your phone through the wifi?
If thats the case that you just need to enable ICS on your laptop. It will be under your menu settings, I havnt messed around with vista's network settings so I cannot tell you quite what it looks like. Possibly a check box or a protocol to install. But once you install Internet Connection Sharing your computer should pass the connection out.

I have this working on my machine with my 730. Often you might need to repair the network connection to your phone from the network connection control panel as it sometimes loses it's IP address.
I also found that I needed to do some work in OneCare which I use as an AntiVirus and Firewall as this was blocking access to the Mobile Device Center.
hope this helps

Using Kaiser as Modem

Hello there,
Im not sure this is possible so here goes..
I am using the works connection, however they have pretty much everysite blocked, so i want to use my phones connection (kaiser with WnW+).
Now if i unplug my works network cable i can browse the internet through the kaisers internet connection (Local Area Connection 10 on here) but obviously can't access my network drives.
Now what i want to do is have both my works connection and my kaiser in, but i want the browser to use my phones connection NOT the works connection, however i still need my network drive etc.
Sorry if i have confused you or you don't understand.
In order to keep your work's connection active at the same time as your phone's, you would need software for Windows that forces port 80 to go out through Local Area Network 10.
Thank you for your help. Sorry to be a pain but do you know any software which i could get?
nope.
Get a junky computer, install ubuntu or any other flavor of linux, then install squid (a proxy server).. Lastly google the words..
ssh tunneling putty windows
you can get around most firewalls this way.
Thanks for that....
But i don't want to do that.
Then have fun not getting what you want.

haha that was a funny reply.
Try getting software that redirects your traffic on port 80 through a different LAN connection as stated earlier. This is possible. I currently have 2 browsers, one browser going through a VPN connection and the other using a LAN connection.
And notice how the sofware wasn't named.

Found the name for you. It's Juniper networks, Secure Application Manager. When connected depending on which applications you have configured they will go through the tunnel or not. So when the app is in use, IE can only browse sites through that tunnel, so I install Firefox to browse all other sites.

using bluetooth as g1's internet connection?

i have adsl on my pc. i want to use my bluetooth connection to share the net access that my pc has with my g1. any ideas how i can do that? thanks in advance.
you can do 1 of two things, format your computer and reinstall your OS which will get rid of the ads OR buy a wifi router and use that for your G1, but to answer your question NO there isnt a way to share your internet through BT
If you have windows vista, you can go to network sharing center and share the network via your wireless card(if your pc has a wireless card). But no, there's no way to share via BT, that I know of.
thanks for the responses.
i've searched this forum and found out that someone's been asking the same question but for windows mobile. http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-319068.html. i wonder if it could be done in android. but cmiiw.

[Q] How To Install Reverse Tethering?

how do i install reverse tethering on my unrooted galaxy note?
pls consider me as a computer ignorant dummy and give a step by step guide!
What exactly you mean by reverse tethering?

I think he means providing the Note with an internet connection via Bluetooth or USB instead? Maybe?
OP, isn't just connecting your Note to WiFi the same thing as "reverse" tethering?
Now, if you're talking about sharing a wired internet connection from your computer to your Note without a WiFi access point around, you can do that from your PC with internet connection sharing. Essentially turning your PC's WiFi into an AP.
Is this what you're talking about?
There is a software called Connectify for Windows 7 for reverse tethering via Wi-fi.
Anyone knows if there is something similar for Windows XP?

can u please elaborate how u did it?
Connectify creates a wireless hotspot on your laptop (or wifi enabled desktop) that can then be used as a regular wifi hotspot. There are many free apps that do this too, but Connectify works best for me. Search for "virtual router" if you're looking for freeware.
If you don't have access to Wifi, then this tool here might be your only hope :
Android reverse tethering for root users (windows)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1371345
Yes, it only works on a rooted device, and if you still don't want to root, the same guy has a method to make it work without root too. Only that it's a little more contrived. There you go : http://www.codeproject.com/Articles/191930/Android-Usb-Port-Forwarding

For reverse tethering on XP machines (if u don't already have a separate physical wifi router), you will have to create ad hoc network. So try this to set your machine as a HotSpot and connect your G-NOTE with this hotspot as you would to a typical wifi network:
On you XP machine, Go into Control panel
Open “Network Connections”
Right click on “Wireless Connection” and click on “Properties”
Click on the “Wireless Networks” tab and select the check-box which says “Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings”
Under “Preferred networks” click “Add”
Type a name in “Network name” text box
Select “Shared” from the options under “Network Authentication”
Under Data encryption select “WEP” and type in your password in “Network Key” field and now click “OK”
Now the new HotSpot should show in the list of preferred networks.
Click on the “Advance” button and select “Computer-to-computer (ad hoc) networks only” and press close
Hit “OK”.
Now, you need to share the wired internet connection (LAN) so that your Galaxy Note now can access the internet connection through this HotSpot you just created.
For this, Go to local Area Connections, right click it and select properties
Go to the “Advanced” tab and under Internet Connection Sharing check the box which says “Allow other network users to connect through this computer’s internet connection” and make sure the box under that is NOT selected so that no one can disable the network remotely.
Hit “OK”
You are done. Now connect your Galaxy Note using your XP machine as a hotspot.
Enjoy...
If this helped, please hit the thanks button

with apologies, I'm not an expert of routers yet, and i dunno about your router, but you pointed out that you need to enter username and password after you connect to your access point, if that means your AP has hotspot enabled, you can try to open any webpage in your browser and see if you land to that page?
if not then connect any other device with your router and when you land on that page, copy the address of it
again apologies for not giving you an expert answer, just betting my knowledge so may b it adds a point of thinking in your situation lol.
and i hope anyone expert will help you on this soon.
