thanks to all the great information here i was able to eliminate the PTT program and free up the PTT switch. now i would like to configure the switch to toggle blue tooth on/off. any insight?
when you freed up the PTT switch, do you now see it in the start>settings>buttons? if so, you can download the bluetooth toggle app i attached and assign it to the button.
unzip the file, inside you should see a folder which two files inside. just copy the folder to your phone's program files. no need to install, just click on the app to run the toggle.
OK, downloaded the zip (thanks) extracted to the program files but do not see it as one of the selections when attempting to assign a program to button 6.

try creating a shortcut to the .exe file and placing the shortcut inside your windows/start menu/programs folder and see if it shows up now.
you beat me to it!! just finished doing that and it works great. thanx again!

If they are in the start menu, then they are not in Program by default. You can probably copy the shortcut from:
\Windows\Start Menu\
to:
\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\

I use Total Commander. Theres an option on the "File" menu under >>>>>
In File Explorer, Copy the exe and then do Menu, Edit, Paste Shortcut and rename it.
Thanks
Dave
Or if you are lucky some nice person might come along and feel sorry for you and generously give you the answer.
Still lurking, Dave.
I downloaded a program called Flashlight, and I wanted to know how I could get it onto my all programs list, since it came as an .exe rather than a cab. Thanks in advance!

Either move the file to \Windows\Start Menu\Programs or Create a shortcut to the exe (Copy the file in File Explorer and Choose Paste Shortcut) there.

Ah! That did the trick. Thank you very much
doesn't work with GpsCompass
I installed a program called GpaCompass that doesn't show up in my win/startmenu/programs, so I copied and pasted the .exe there, I tried to cut/paste the .exe there, still no go. it gives me an alarm about microsoft.net, but i have 3.5 installed. I've tried using 2.0 as default AND 3.5 as default. not sure what to do. I'll try to include screenshot of error msg.

Don't copy (or cut!) and paste the exe to your Startmenu/Programs folder. Instead you should copy and paste a SHORTCUT to the exe in your Starmenu/Programs folder. By pasting the exe file itself into your folder it is trying to execute from that folder when other files that it may need are in the installation directory somewhere else on your device.
So first, cut and paste the .exe back to where it was originally located. Next copy the exe and "Paste as shortcut" into your Startmenu/Programs folder
Thanks lots
@ Rumbal,
worked beautifully, thanks a lot! I apparently misunderstood other posts I had read about doing this. And , call me an idiot, but somehow completely overlooked "paste as shortcut", and only saw "paste".
Thanks
woot!
Thanks!
This is something I just learned as well. Now I'm going to go ahead and make all the shortcuts I want!
It took a while, but I didn't want to ASK and get flamed for it. Anyway, these forms are tens of thousands of posts deep....I knew the answer was here

Amazing trick...this worked without troubles, and it can be set manually mostly for portable applications which does not install in Program Files folder.
I just did a trick with portable Dreamweaver by simply copying the portable folder to the Program Files, and then copied and pasted Dreamweaver.exe shortcut in Star Menu\Programs folder....worked fine.
Thanx for ur tips...
Hello
I have TomTom7 installed on my SD card, with favorites and custom map colors and everything...
After installing the new ROM from HTC, how do I get my phone to recognize the .exe file on the SD card as an installed program?
I would love if I didn't have to reinstall TomTom all over again.
Thanks in advance for any help/input
Hmmm, many visitors - but no answers...
I should maybe write a little more.
If I press the .exe file on the SD card, TomTom7 works perfectly...
- that isn't the issue.
My problem is that I would love to have TomTom in my programs menu, which I can not at the moment.
Therefor I need to get my Diamond to recognize it as an installed program, so that it shows up in my programs menu.
I hope what I'm writing is making sense, if not please tell and I will try to explain it more elaborate.
In "file explorer", hold your finger/stylus on the .exe file then select copy.
Now navigate to My Device\Windows\Start Menu
Hold your finger/stylus on the blank area below all the files listed then select Paste Shortcut
Now rename from "Shortcut to" to whatever you want to call it!
Job Done!!

Hi guys,
I have tomtom navigator installed to storage card but cannot create a shortcut on the today screen either through easytodaylauncher or spb ms3.5.
I got through the usual steps to create a shortcut but tomtom is not there.
to open tomtom I have to go to storagecard/navigator and select the .exe file for it to run.
I have tried copying the .exe file onto the device in to programfiles with no joy.
Please could someone with better intellegence than me tell me how to do it?
Thank you for reading.
Use total commander to create a shortcut to \windows\Start menu\Programs
I also got it at Storage card. Dunno if it will show up at easytodaylauncher and spb ms3.5 but i think so.
Tap and hold .exe file, select Edit > Copy, then navigate to windows/start menu/programs and tap menu and then select Edit > Paste Shortcut. Come out of the folder, go back in and there should be "Shortcut to TomTom..", rename.
Please elaborate on your problem. Does the shortcut appear in the file explorer?

it absolutely does
I have to translate to English, but in your Explorer it should be like:
Mobile Device - My windows mobile-based device - Windows ...
that doesnt show all the files though

sure?
can you pls add an example? after a very quick see-through I'm inclined to disagree
maybe you should check the following setting in your windows explorer:
Tools - Folder Options... - View (tab) - Files and Folders - Display xxx... option settings, maybe something required is unchecked there
