On my htc touch i have used the tool wirelesstime for a scheduled gsm on/off switching.
No I have encountered a problem that the diamond won`t start the gsm connection at a scheduled time. The Phone is in standby modus. I set up gsm start for 5:30AM and then called the phone only to hear my mailbox answering. When I turn the phone on the gsm connection is starting and after some seconds the phone is ready to work.
Does anybody else have this problem and how can this be solved ?
Any help on this is appreciated because this tool helps saving battery power a lot.
Thanx in advance and sorry for my bad english.

I recently applied the Kaiser tweak to disable idle connections after 1 min - this works great when the phone is on, however, when it goes into sleep mode, this fails to work.
E.G. If I click send/receive on my emails then quickly put it into sleep, turn on the device in 10min and it would have stayed connected, once it is turned on after a minute it will disconnect.
This morning I turned on the device to see that it had connected to receive emails last night and had stayed connected for hours - of course once I turned it on the tweak kicked in and it disconnected after a minute.
So my question is, how do you get the tweak to work whilst in Sleep? Any work arounds?
Thanks in advance!
Hi
If you are referring to GPRS/3G there is no problem the connection remaining active. It isn't really active unless data is being transferred, it is just the session remains ready for data. The mobile operators prefer it working this way as it is less strain on the network creating a data connection and keeping it rather than setting them up/closing them down/setting them backup again.
It doesn't use any more power by remaining up.
The software isn't shutting down the connection when you have the phone in standby as quite simply the software will not be running in standby, everything stops in standby, so the program can't run to turn off the connection, until you turn the phone on again.

Phil
Hi Philip,
From my experience I have found that even if the data connection is open with no data flow (HSDPA / 3G ) it drains the battery much more than if it were closed.
Or is this just for HSDPA?

same question here...
Hi
There is a blog that explains what is happening from Microsoft.
I would guess that while the connection is active something on the device is seeing that and stopping the device from entering standby.
The actual connection itself remaining open does not drain any more power as it isn't doing anything different than just having your phone on waiting for a call.

Hi Philip,
Thanks for your response.
I have to say though from the last few days of tinkering, an open connection does drain more than a closed one even with no data flowing. This is with HSDPA, I have not tested this with just a 3G open data connection though...
Are we talking about the same things? I'm a bit new to this phone though sorry.
Thanks,
Hi - ive tried looking through the threads but cant find anything, so apologies if im repeating something all ready asked..
Ive been noticing on recent phone bills that im getting charged for gprs calls that i definatly havnt been making but my phone company insists that i have. After further investigating, ive seen that if im using wifi, and the phone turns to standby, when it switches back on gprs has been activated and is running underneath wifi.. and this is where (i think) my call charges have been coming from...( i hope that makes sense!)
Is this a common problem with the stellar/kaiser/tilt or just a problem with this individual unit - also, if it is a common problem is there anyway in which i can stop it happening?
I can understand where it is coming from.
When you go into standby (ie turn off the screen), the phone turns WiFi off to save battery. This makes sense, but imho WM is still too stupid to understand the concept of money. Result is that when it tries to continue doing whatever it was doing it will open a new connection and it's first choice is the GPRS/HSDPA connection.
As far as I am aware, the options to stop this from happening again are....
1) Stop WiFi from turning itself off when the phone goes into standby. I'd do this using KaiserTweak - the Option is under "Data -> Wifi standby mode"
2) Disable the GPRS connections so it can't connect. One way is to remove the password so it asks before it connects. There's also a tool on here somewhere that allows you to quickly enable and disable connections. Here looked promising, posts a link to modaco
Hope that helps.
Hello,
i have a strange prob. on my o2 xda Diamond...(on o2-de)
When i start a Data 3G Data Session the Diamond will switch to HSDPA when Data is transfered..... works gerat.... but when the Data transfer is Idle the Diamond switches Back to 3G (this is how it should be....configured by the Network Operator) BUT then when Data is transferred again the Diamond switches to HSDPA for a short while and nothing happens.... the connection seems stuck.....
Somtimes the Data begins to flow after some Minutes, sometimes I have to dis/reconnect manually.
After a manual reconnect the Connection works immideately....but then.... the Problem appears again..
Is there anyone who encountered the same Prob?
P.S.: Yes, i did a HardReset and triple checked all Connection entries...
Same for me on the o2 branded original german rom. But now I'm flashing the DiamondProjectTeam-ROM.
Maybe the bug were fixed in the course of time.
Phew.... so I´m not alone with this Problem...
Im not quite shure if this problem was there a week ago.....
Even if i Update the Wheather Widget two times in a short interval (after fallback to 3G) the connection is stuck....
As far as I remeber this wasn´t the case a week ago after i got the Diamond.
Pleas Report if the cooked ROM behaves different...
Regards, Jan
Yes jkb770 ...
let me set up the settings on the new ROM. After that I will edit this post and report ...
.Edit.
Hey guys, sry for the delay ... But I was very busy.
After flashing to DiamProj V1 I determined no difference
But I was very surprised when I surf with PIE. There was no problem to be idle for a while. PIE connected immediately to the requested page; without reconnecting. Maybe is a opera problem? I tried it with the newest version of opera (9.5.1522), no success.
Great!
Thanks in advance...
...im just installing the unsingned HARDSPL......
German
Hmmmm it seems to be no WWE ROM
No German UI
And i still have the HSDPA Idle Prob...
..Nah.... worth a try
As far as I know this is normal behavior. If there is no data transfered the "3G" symbol is shown as indicator and as soon as there is data transfer the "H" symbol will be displayed in case HSDPA is available.
I can remember I also read this somewhere in the manual of my TyTN.
This is also no disadvantage because transferring no data with HSDPA or UMTS will take exactly the same time.
Read...
The Problem is that after the idle (fallback to 3G) the Connection freezes....
Means..... after every fallback from HS to 3G no Data will ever flow until disconnect...
Sorry, I missed that part somehow
My E90 use to do same thing aswell. Am on 3 network in UK.
I think its network deponded, not some think to do with handset.
Edit on post #4: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2398651&postcount=4
exactly same problem here, connection freezes after few minutes, works absolutely fine after reconnecting. Has anyone found a solution for this problem yet?
HTC Diamond with Duttys ROM v1.8, radio 1.00.25.07; and I am on O2 network in UK
Oh and one more thing. I don't encounter this on my Stellar (Kaiser) with exactly same network settings. I will try different SPL today. Will update after.
Regards,
did you guys try do install the new O² HTC Rom Update? 1.93 is the version, maybe it will fix that issue you guys have.
i barely use my diamond for surfing over hdspa - only wifi - so i can't tell about this problem.
btw hello, i'm the new guy
Hello to the new guy.
Now I have changed the Hard SPL 1.24, different radio as well and the problem still exists!
When disabled HSDPA and working only on 3G everything is perfect. Is it only problem with O2 network or has anyone experienced it with any other networks? (but then again, if it was a network problem Kaiser would have the same problem but it DOESN'T) I don't know what to do next...
At least it seems it's not just me experiencing this problem!
My connection also gets stuck when switching back to HSDPA (not always though) and this seems to be causing issues when I connect to my office VPN aswell (when i try to complete data intensive tasks).
I'm 99% sure it's caused by the phone and not the network operator since I've used an older model HTC with my current SIM (Vodacom) and I don't experience this at all then. But when I put a different operator SIM (MTN) in my Diamond I also get this problem.
Anyone figure out what it could be yet?
so looks like it's the phone's fault...
hehe... am not alone in this...i think its network dependent.. ve
tried several hsdpa device, usb modem.. same ...
There should be a kind of solution maybe a software that will keep injecting data requests at intervals to keep hsdpa from falling back to 3G..
bR
My problem is definatly not network related. I've tried with another HTC Touch Diamond (on another network) and I've got the same issues connecting the VPN.
It really seems as if the phone has a problem dealing with large chunks of data (or a certain type of data).
Don't know if this makes sense but that's just my experience with it sofar...
so is there any solution for our problem?
This is driving me crazy
I have the same problem as you guys on my X1. I've tried almost everything and nothing works. Has anyone found a solution to this?
Hello,
I have a problem with my HTC S730. The dataconnection in connmanager is turned off. But I can't get it back on. It works for half a year but now it won't work. So when my dataconnection is off I can't call or sms.
I tryed a hard-reset but without result...
Any suggestions?
I don't understand. You switched off phone at commmanager - maybe. After restart will be GSMpart fix at switchoff.
Do you go to commmanager and switch phone to on. You don't need dataconnections for SMS and call.
Maybe you switched on airplane mode. It isn't possible use GSM on airplane mode.
If you have switchon GSM, you need setup GPRS or dial-up at settings->connection. You will ask yours network operator.
If no,
Maybe you have problems with yours SIM cards, maybe you have problem with GSM operator or maybe you have problem with phone. If don't you repair it, you test to HW restart. BUT YOU WILL LOST ALL DATA !!!
If you turn off the data connection it will stay off until something in the phone prompts for network access. I usually just refresh my weather page and it fires up and is back online.
However since you hardbooted your phone and still have no luck you might be having other issues. Even more so since you cannot make a call or anything since disabling it. Any new software or flashing done to the phone's rom or radio?
Ok ty all!
My phone is back on.
I don't know how but it works.
Although I still have some problems with my network.
Sorry if this has been answered but i did a search and came up with nothing so i hope someone here can help me out.
I was wondering if there is a way for when my tilt goes on standby to keep the WiFi connection still on. Cause i see when i take it off standby the WiFi connection starts trying to connect instead of still being connected.
So just wondering if there is a way to keep it on all the time!
Thanks in advance.
see if this helps
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=2602535
btw, keeping wifi on all the time would drain your battery out really really fast
the reason i want the wifi on when its on standby is i want it to continue checking my gmail and also i would like to keep my messenger on instead of it signing off when im on stand by cause the wifi isnt connected.

Download Kaiser tweaks, among other very useful tweaks, it has wifi standby mode. Which keeps wifi on in standby.
