Where on the Diamond do I place my mp3 files so I can play them in queue in either the integrated music player or windows media player??
I think wherever you want. I placed them in the internal storage in a MP3 folder and it finds them and plays fine from there
i placed them internal storage and then in many different folders. no luck. doesnt find them.
Go to start > settings > today > item > and uncheck touch3d!!!
Use a file explorer
Go to My device > Application data > HTC > Audiomanager_ENG
Here you will find a file named audiomanager.vol
rename it to audimanager.bak
restart your device and go to start > settings > today > item > and check touch3d
Go to your today screen and then to the music tab.
It will search your device and must find your music. Viola!!
So in any case something doesn't work well with the music files. Just follow these steps.
Let me know if it does the trick for you!!!
I tested your suggestion since i was in the same map trying to remova a playlist what i couldnt remove through the music tab. In my case i keeps searching for music. Now going for 4 minutes. There are exactly 4 songs on the diamond. Im going to do a soft reset to see if that helps. Will post when i know more
EDIT: Soft reset did the trick. Found the 4 little buggers in 1 second.

Thanks you very much sir. Worked fine. The only "draw back" is that in the search All audio files are picked up, so if you have for example a large collection of ringtones stored on internal, they will show up on the music player, which is not cool.
Anyways thanks a lot.
cheers boys!

Well I have a few ringtones, but it does not add them to the playlist.
I have a file named: Music. It only adds the mp3's in that file. My ringtones are placed in the root of internal storage.
No problem here!!! And I flashed various ROM's, never had that problem.

Ill try changing the file name containing music to what you suggest. Im running TLR latest, (hopefully). My music is in file My Music.
It actually picked up some Fring audio files that were in the root.
Ill try.
I (and many others on here it seems!) have the opposite problem - I want the Audio Manager to IGNORE a certain folder (i.e. not place it in the library).
Any ideas?

I had to do a hard reset on my Tilt. I have the stock AT&T Rom minus the bloatware. For some reason when you go to the Sounds and Notifications tab the link which allows you to add and delete sound files is missing. It's very strange. The original install had no issues with this.
Any ideas? I am stuck with the stock sounds and cannot use an MP3 files for ring tones. I have tried to search for answers here unsuccessfully.
I have found using the HTC Audio Plugin I can select an MP3 as a ringtone. However, I still want the ability to manage the other files using the standard Windows Mobile software.
Thanks,

You know, I have the same problem. I have the standard ATT ROM also. I have never performed a hard reset though, so I thought the manage tab was just omited from this model.
Any help on how to fix this would be great.
Thanks!
quick solution
copy mp3s, wav files to windows directory
reset (though not really necessary)
open sounds and notifications - they should be listed

Thanks so much for the info, that is how I've been doing it, but it was so much quicker and easier through the manage tab on sounds and notifications
Thanks again!
I would still like the ability to delete some of the stock mid files for alarms, etc. It is just strange that I had it on the device and then it disappeared. Keep the tips coming.

If you are 'Missing' the bloatware (ie stopped them on install at boot) you will only have the stock MS WM sounds installed. Carriers add their own extra sounds as part of the setup process into 'Windows' 'Ringtones'.
Put your mp3 or wma files into there and they should show up on the dropdown menu. Other sounds such as SMS etc. need to be in the Windows root directory.

I do have the ATT bloatware installed on stock ROM, and am also missing sounds and notifications manage tab.
Hate the supplied ones ! and have one in mind.... how can i get it to add to the list of Alarm sounds ?
thanks
Put .wav files in the Windows directory to use them.
Copy the WAV file into the Windows Directory on your device.
Then go into the alarm setup & it will be in the list.

Take them out of there... do the following:
1. Highlight the .wav files you want, Right hand and click Copy.
2. Connect your phone to PC and ActiveSync should start automatically.
3. Click Tools, Explore Pocket PC, open your device.
4. You should see "Windows". click it... It will take about a minute to open.
5. Scroll to the bottom of the page and right hand click and choose paste.
6. close and click the Time then choose the Alarm tab.
7. Click on the Bell icon and from the drop down window you should see all those .wav files you copied.
is this simple enough for you..?
Enjoy..

Just to add to the above - when looking for the Pocket PC Windows folder via ActiveSync, I found you have to set the PC folder options to display Hidden and System folders.

When I select the sound after step 7 it goes to "default" sound, what am I doing wrong?
Thanks
same here (HTC polaris, wm6),.. not the problem with copying etc but when I try to select the sound it jumps back to default,.. i managed to shrink the wav file with Audacity and Lame to 1.4Mb, i used just part of the song, w settings: 11025 Hz, 16 bit, mono (as low as the settings go, if I type custom Hz, eg 8000 the size stays the same).. i guess this has sth to do with the size of the file, i noticed someone talking about it being less than 600kb big,.. but have no clue how to make it even smaller (there's only 30 secs of song left).. any ideas
reflashed to the latest version and went to setup my alarm/textmessage sounds and none of the alarm wavs were there. bad flash? or just not included in the updated version?
Does the size of the file matter? I have the HTC touch with windows 6.1 and unfortunately the converted wave files show up but much like what other people have said once I go to set it as an alarm it doesnt work it just sets it to default. Ringtones work fine but alarm doesnt
Use the HTC Audio Manager
I was struggling with this and then I came across the Audio Manager.
If you load MP3 file to your phone ( I loaded mine into then the audio manager will find these and there is an option to make any of the files found the default ringtone or store it as a ringtone. These are then selectable using the normal Windows Sounds & Notifications in Settings.
No expert, but hope this assists.
I'm running HTC Home on my tilt...Today I changed my default ringtone from a mp3 file to another mp3, but it didn't change.... I can play the files, so I know the files are good, but it will not change in HTC Home or under the system>sounds & notifications....
Anyone know what I need to do?
Firstly, make sure that your mp3 files are associated with wmplayer otherwise you cannot play mp3's as ringtones, secondly make sure that your mp3's for ringtones are placed in the device/rings folder. That should sort it out.
I moved the file to the rings folder, but it still changes back after I close the sounds window. The ringtone that it is currently using is a mp3 file in the My documents folder. How do I check to verify the program mp3s are associated with?

Can you go into the file explorer i nthe programs folder, then browse to the mp3 you want to use as a ring tone, hold the stylus down on the file and select "set as Ringtone" from the drop down list.
What does that do?

That's easy. What file explorer app do you use? If you use Total Commander (Freeware), then you can associate all mp3's with WMPlayer The WMPlayer icon should show on those files, then you know what app it's associated with. You go File>Properties, select the Associate tab and then select WMPlayer from the Device\Windows directory.
In Resco Explorer, you Tap and Hold file for a pop-up menu and then Open>Open with, and then select WMPLayer.
mskip... It's says "the file has been set as your current ring tone."... but it doesn't do it.
MACkjam.... I use just the file explorer from WM 6.1... the ringtone it's set on is a mp3 file so I would assume it has the proper assoc..
I deleted the mp3 file that was set as the ringtone... it moved down the list to the next mp3 file and now I can't change it......
I have tried changing the ringtone via:
1. File Explorer
2. HTC Home tab
3. System>sounds
In system>sounds, every time I try to change it, it looks like it's changed and then I can go back to see, it's just like before.
In HTC Home, it allows me to select another, but it never changes......
Is there a place in the registry I can make the change?

Does it allow you to set non mp3 RingTones? eg. the ones that came on the rom.
no, it is currently set as Ring-WindowsMobile.....I can't change it to anything else.... HTC Home still has the ringtone as mrbeannokia, but the system settings has the Ring-WindowsMobile....
It seems that I can change other sounds, like email and MMS sent...
Could this be a problem with HTC Home?

I have had the similar problem...haven't found the solution to this day.....but there's a workaround delete or move the ringtone which you're using now(ring-windowsmobile - [if it's in rom then you might have a problem deleting it...in that case backup your files...hardreset your phone and check if you can change ringtone on clean rom]) and then you should be able to assign a new ringtone. I've notice that the problem doesn't occur on "clean" roms so most likely some application is screwing up your "Feng shui"
Thanks Arturo... The ringtone is on the ROM, so I can't delete it.....I was hoping I could avoid a hard reset.....

Well in that case you could try to search for a program which allows deleting or renaming files in rom.(I'm not sure if such a program exists at all but it's worth trying if you don't want to hardreset your phone)

Yes; here: HKCU\ControlPanel\Sounds\Ringtone0 - edit sound
ie:
Code:
*vibrate*
is equal to vibrate.
Code:
\My Documents\My Ringtones\*put song/ringtone file name here*
" is the default file location.
Thank you zeezee...but I had hard reset my phone before I read you message....
after the hard reset, I installed all the programs I had before and tried changing my ringtones after each...every thing worked fine, until...
This morning, I could change the ringtone, but it would change back after a phone call, so I looked at everything that could set my ringtone and decided that Phone Alarm was the problem... I removed it and now everything works correctly....
I appreciate all the help y'all gave me....

What Rom are you using? Is it a stock rom or a cooked one? If it really bothers you that much then it might be worth just flashing a new Rom rather than spending your time trying to figure it out.
go in the registry and change the HKEY_Current User> ControlPanel > Sounds and deleted the key of FileSizeLimit.

I am having a problem even getting WM Player to update the Library with the songs from the storage card. It only shows my device as an option and not the storage card. I have taken out and re-inserted the memory card, but still nothing.
Same problem here, but different device.
The G1 has a silence mode, but it unfortunately only silences ringers and notifications. If I want to play a game of Solitaire I am blasted in the face with stupidly loud music. Is there a system-wide switch to just disable ALL sound through the built in speaker?
Go to setting -> sounds & display -> media volume bring then it all the was down you should be able to map a. Shortcut to this with anycut.
Hope this helps
Ringtone/Notification Questions
Is there any way to put your own ringtones on the phone through a storage card like on the wing or other windows mobile phones, I just got the phone and am playing with it right now ad so far don't see no way to do this. If there's a way can someone please help.
I added 2 tones from my wing to the memory card from the G1. Placed them on the root of the card and then installed from the market "Rings Extended". Then selected them.
download the rings extended app. that will let you do what you want.
google market: rings extended
+1 rings extended.
I had a stale page load and the two previous posters beat me to it!
-- edit --
also, fwiw, with 'rings extended' I found that the media listing was recursive as I had an entire directory structure from my wm6 phone. So, you can still have categorized directory structures if you like.
if you use the correct folder structure there will be no problems setting up the ringtones

there's a thread with that in it, I don't remember where.
If someone finds the thread for the correct folder structure please let me know, and neiltoe idk how to put it in the root folder market extended, I'm coming from a wing and I had a 2gb storage card for the wing so I took the card out my wing and put it in the g1 it sound like the way u do it neiltoe u have to keep the 1gb storage card.
hopefully this link works:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=438486
Alternatively you can just go to the music player, choose a song and press " use as ringtone".
First off, what helped me the most- connect the phone to a pc and enable the usb on the g1. When it pops up (it will look like a mass storage device on the pc) format it and then create these folders at the root of the storage card:
music
ringtones
alerts
notifications
Anything inside music will show up on the music player. Anything outside should not show up anywhere but where it is placed. If you do not format the card first, this will not be the case at least in my experience. Formatting seems to make it all work right.
The folder structure is taken from the tmobile website online instruction manual- cant remember the page

While true, it also means you may have a bunch of ringtones and alerts mixed in with your music, something I dont like
for the record:
/sdcard/media/audio/ringones
etc
works as well, as does
/sdcard/media/video
for video files.
good to know about the alternative folder layouts
what are you using to play video files? I grabbed the "video player" on the market but curious to know what others are using.
Thanks a lot guys, you were very helpful.

in my experience, this is exactly what you need to do. Format it on the pc while its in the phone using the data cable.
I have the emobile touch diamond, Japanese version. I cannot figure out how to set my mp3s as a ringtone. It will only let me make .wma format into a ringtone. Can anyone help?
The easiest way to set an mp3 as your ringtone would be to do it from within HTC audio manager. Play your mp3 file in audio manager, click on menu-->Set as ringtone. Trim your file to play not more than 40-45 seconds since most carriers cant play a ringtone longer than that. After you trim it, select set as default ring tone.
Even if I play the track in the HTC audio manager the menu does not show "set ring tone" only allows me to add to playlist, properties, ect.
Hmm......ok. Do this, take your mp3 file...and save it in the following location. Using file explorer go to my documents-->my ringtones. Save your file here. Now go to start-->settings-->personal-->sounds and notifications-->notifications-->incoming call. You should be able to see your mp3 file in the drop down.
Good Luck.

that works.. but if you hooking your phone to the computer using activesyne.. they have an option when you first sync it to see if you want to sync music as well...
if you did that.. your Phone My Document folder will show up on the desktop.. and you should be able to see a folder name My Ringtones there.. copy and paste the ringtons you want in there..
and now just go back to your phone.. under Notification.. you should be able to see your ringtones under the drop down like syedimran said
Ya, something is different because it is a Japanese rom. It does have a ringtone folder, but the name is in Japanese. Even if I put files in there they do not show up in setting/personal/sounds and notifications/notifications/incoming calls drop down menu. It is very strange.
Might I suggest flashing a nice clean english rom then. Its gonna save you a lot of rework and its easier this way. Ofcourse the choice is all yours.

Flashing a new ROM would cause everything other than the stuff in your internal storage deleted.
You can backup call history, sms, e-mails, contacts using this program call PIM Backup (search it on the forum you will see it, or go under the ROM development section click on the Dutty 3.5b Final post and in the first page he has a link to PIM Backup)
Just follow the instruction from the Dutty 3.5b Final post and you will know how to flash a new ROM
of course you can also choose other ROMs of you choice but the same instruction applies to all ROM
