Ok everyone, the next "incantation" of the TuMa ROM is now available!
This ROM is a radical expansion and departure from mamaich's original. I've replaced a number of elements which were OMAP code, with XScale code - taken from the Himalaya, Jasjar, and various ROMs I have had access to. I've also upgraded some applications, and put duplicates of different versions in as well (to determine which is better), and have added other various features, tools, and widgets.
The ROM requires a fair amount of testing now, and the only way I believe this can be done would be to let "everyone" at it and see how it goes. There is a LOT of untested functionality in the ROM, as I don't have access to a number of devices or configurations. So, feedback is definately needed!
There have been a LOT of changes in this ROM, and because of this I'd like to term this ROM as being an ALPHA version. If you have the will and the way, give it a go. I'm finding the performance even better (so far) - but it's only been an hour of testing, and in truth ... I've only managed to test very little of it. 8)
Considerations for this ROM:
All core elements of WM5 are now in the ROM. This includes the previously removed Pocket Powerpoint, Excel, and other files. So, all of the CAB files which I've created specifically for this ROM can be OPTIONALLY installed!
There are now 3 CABs by default in the EXTROM folder:
1). Midlet Manager
2). Arcsoft MMS Composer
3). IA Camera
This means that the ROM should be directly usable in devices without a Camera. If you have such a device, then make sure that you don't install the CAB file (just cancel it)!
If you do have a Camera, you MUST install the Camera AFTER the MMS Installation, as I've chained the two installations together. MMS will install without Camera, and then the Camera CAB will enable the Camera in MMS Composer.
One thing - localization is set to "New Zealand" (since that's where I am), so some of you will need to change this back to your region. (Sorry - it's my ROM after all )
The ROM is in /Uploads/Blue Angel/wm5_test/WM5 BA - TuMa v1.1.zip
Contents: nk.nbf, and the EXTROM folder with CAB files - so, update the operator and Flash away ...
Explore the features, test all of the elements, and let me know if everything is working properly.
All the best of luck with it!
*** D-OH! First Bug ... The "Contacts" SoftKey is wrong ... just open up the SoftKey Control Panel Applet and reset it ... works fine then. Sorry Guys. :-(
Is it possible to put a direct link to the file? I can't really find it...
I get a checksum error using BAUpgrade; MaUpgradeUt doesnt show any rom info. This is what i have always used to fix my roms previously
xda3nbftool -x nk.nbf nk.nba 0x20040521

Anything wrong here?
Edit: I was in bootloader mode
Hello efjay, could you help me here? I can't really find the file to download
raymondu999 are you using an FTP client? Thats probably the best way to get it.
Edit: try this link ftp://ftp.xda-developers.com/Uploads/Blueangel/wm5_test/WM5 BA - TuMa v1.1.zip
No actually, I'm only going the ftp://xd[email protected] whatever thing...
Does it work for you? Or is it my computer that's acting funny and not letting me download it?
Actually, nevermind, efjay, it's working for me now. THANKS A LOT!!!! I owe you one!
No problem, pls post if you are able to flash ok. I seem to be stuck.
No problem, willdo. However, don't expect anything too soon... My internet is slow as hell, so I'll be downloading for a looooooooooooong time....

Hmmm ... I had this as well when I was building this ROM myself. I think it's because some folders have been specified as "PermDir()", and the shortcuts are being kept.
For anyone experiencing the same problem try this:
(NOTE: This will require a HARD RESET & REBUILD)
1). Run "File Explorer" and goto "My Device"
2). Tap and Hold "My Documents", then select "Delete" and delete everything
3). Tap and Hold "Program Files", then select "Delete" and delete everything
4). goto "Windows"
5). Tap and Hold "Start Menu", then select "Delete" and delete everything
6). Tap and Hold "Startup", then select "Delete" and delete everything
Then HARD RESET your device, select "Format Storage", and "Clear Registry", and the duplicates should be gone.
I think I may have messed something up in the formatting specifications for the Flash Storage device ... i.e. it checks the existing format, and if it's still ok, it keeps all permament items around. This is probably BUG #2. *sigh*
Let me know how you get on ...

Followed steps 1-6 and it looks ok now  will do some more testing tomorrow with gps, phone, sms etc and let you know...
nearly 3am here in uk so time for bed
thanks again

Installed the upgrade, did note the above problem. In step 2) and 5) files exist that prohibit the folder deletion, like PIE in step 5. Not sure why I get a different response than nks. Ended up deleting the duplicate entries in the Start Menu.
This version is much faster, great work.

1) Noticed the Double menu items, can delete some directories.
2) Noticed that the activesync connection does not remain connected. I have to disconnect and reconnect
3) Sound issues with WM Player playing off a SD card remain until the buffer is full (about 1 min into the song)
Will keeping probing for other issues.

Thanks heaps for the feedback!
Right ... I think my reworking of the Flash Storage specification - while improving the performance, has had a few other 'odd' side effects. Probably the SD Card buffering/paging has been affected, and similarly resulting in the double menu items.
As for the ActiveSync disconnect issue - I did have that happen to me just now as well. Very strange though, I simply opened another "explorer" window, and everything came back immediately. Maybe I've changed the timeouts/timing for the usb driver too much.
One really BIG question though - since you're using a SX66, did everything work flawlessly for you with respect to the NON-Camera installation (i.e. just cancelling the CAB install?). Is MMS fully operational and everything else working?
I'll try to have a look into this sometime (very late) tonight after I get my "real" work done now.
Oh ... and on the "bad news" front ... I'm going to be away again for another 2 weeks now - this time in Germany, going to be exhibiting at Cebit - leaving Sunday. *sigh* a bit last minute and unexpected all this.
Hopefully though, I'll have time enough to do some patches or an upgrade to the ROM for anything which is found before that time. So keep testing and letting me know!
Hello Mr. T Great work by the way !!! it really works great, much faster and responsive!! you will be a saint for all us geeks !!!
I have my first bug to report! in hopes of furthering the development.
there is no support (at least for me) for MIDI as ring tone, it does not play. also I get the following error when trying to play in WM "The source filter for this file could not be loaded."
well just happy to report! cheers!!
Great Work!!
another thing, I really believe that the problem with WM5 for BA is the phone side of the ROM I really think that there is an incompatibility issue here. because when I use the device with Radio off, it works perfect! on every issue.

I deleted the Camera CAB and modified the cfg.txt file before copying the files to the EXTROM directory and flashing, same effect as cancelling the CAB install. It installed without error. I tried installing the camera cab on an earlier version with no adverse effects on the SX66, but I prefer not to have it around in the PDA. I like the option to pick and choose what to install.
I'm not a user of MMS right now, so I can't tell there. Pocket MSN works. The activesync connection dropping out does have something to do internet access, connection stays active until an attempt to connect to the internet. MSN and FTP don't appear to use the activesync connection when it is available.
Wifi works, but I can't thru the portal at the hotel I'm at tonight, so I can't do a full test. Don't have my bluetooth adapter with me to check it.
Removed the screen rotate tool from the tray, I prefer the special button 9 on the keyboard for that function.

NOTE: This is very easy to do for anyone else. All 'accessories' are simply loaded in the /Windows/Startup folder, so if you don't want something (like Cyberon Voice Dial, or Screen Rotate, or psShutXP, etc.) you can simply remove it from this directory, or disable it, and it'll no longer run. Similarly, all buttons are now configured as configurable buttons (not hard coded through registry, etc.) This way you can easily customize the device how you like it.
Remember, it's also not using any of your Storage memory for these 'extra' applications - so there's no cost in having or deleting them.
I'll check the board again in a little while ... must get back to work! I might be able to make a v1.1a later tonight, which will hopefully correct some of these initial problems which have been found. (If I find the time ... )
hello all ...
im not try this new ROM but 1 question... ist work to use BA as modem with this ROM ???
thanks in advanced...
Want to create your own keyboard sliding sounds?WM6 comes with three by default, and you can't add custom ones...
Or can you?
Using a registry editor, nav to:
\HKLM\Software\HTC\SlidingSound
There are 3 keys: 0,1, and 2. These represent the three current sounds: piano, xylophone, and whatever the third is.
Make a copy of one of these and name it 4. Inside 4, set Default to the name for your sound. Then make the In and Out point to the appropriate wav's in the Windows directory.
Soft reset your device, then go to Start > Settings > Keyboard Sliding Sounds. Your new entry should appear in the list.
Hope it helps!!
Ryan
And do you have cool sliding sounds for download. I already searching a long time for cool ones.
Regards, Tommy
Yeap Indeed, Can someone please link us some sliding sounds??it would be very helpfull for the p4350 community
Well, after downloading a bunch of free sound FX, I've chopped them up and sped them up/slowed them down... Here's a few to try. I think they're pretty cool, better than the built in ones at least...
Ryan
I know ya gotta love the Transformers.
the transformers sounds are really cool. i did speed them uip slightly and lowered the volume
guys...what am I doing wrong here? total commander won't allow me to copy or past in any of the directories?
I followed the above steps...but when it comes down to it...I can use the "copy/move" ....but then it won't allow mw to paste.
I also can't copy my sound from my mem card to any windows directory.
I'm totally new to WM and making mods to my WING...any help would be greatly appreciated!

yeah i dont understand how this works either do you guys think you can make more explained instructions thanx

It seems like you try to make a classical PPC copy paste by the tap and hold and you're not supposed to act that way.
Be sure to use the Copy/Move option in the File menu to do so.
Good luck.

i love the sound effects! thanks a lot dude!
Why not just edit the already existing sound effects.. like inside the folder 0 you can edit the in and out entries.. like on my hermes I edited '0' folder in registry to be the transformers sound by editing in with value data of my documets/slider4_in.wav and out with my documents/slider4_out.wave
For those having trouble following this guide, I have one at the HoFo Forums. Should be real easy to follow.
http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=1195063&highlight=Sliding+Sound+Guide
My Take
For those of you who are having trouble creating amd understanding the reg file, any easy way to do it is to just edit the ones already listed. That really is just the easiest. Just make sure you copy your wav files into the Windows folder on your device. And for a treat, my sounds; a Lightsaber!

i guess the easiest way is to
1) download the wav-files and rename then to 3_in.wav and 3_out.wav (the number 3 depends on the number of previously installed sounds)
2) edit the registry on your device (as instructed in the 1st post)
3) connect to activesync.
4) explore your device, go to the windows directory (on the device). and then copy the .wav files into the windows directory.
5) restart the device
6) edit sliding sound settings and it should work
WTF...am I doing wrong
Try as I might (I am regedit savy!) I still can't get this trick / hack / addon to work.
Reg settings seem fine, softreset...nothing...???? WHY
Sound files in windows work perfectly as I've run them directly from a command line address so I know they are pointed to correctly within the 2 paths.
Any help would be appreciated.
SHORTCUT
i first copy original wav to sd. then use the rename trick. right click on original name and select rename. then using the touch screen keyboard press the ctrl key + c. then take the sound u want to use and right click it and select rename. then use touch screen keyboard and press ctrl key + v. now that u have rename ur new sounds with the original name, hightlight both in and out sounds and copy them too the windows folder, overwritting original sound. then go to settings and change sliding keyboardsounds with the original name of one u over written.
are there any programs to allow for slider sounds for the mda???
i have the star trek sounds PM me if you want tehm
Hello!
I would like to make som changes to the preinnstalled homecreen on my HTC s730, but i don't know how. I like it as it is now, but the weather service and the top ten person i would like to cut away. Somebody who know how I can do that? Is it possible to do other changes on it too?
Yeah, theres an XML file in the windows dir I believe of the phone that you can edit and make changes too, I added the most used programs under my calander while I try to find something for that contacts bit I never use.
There was another thread where people were posting pics of what they had done and had more tips, but essentially you just edit that xml. I dont recall the name for sure but it was something like HTChome.xml or something like that, not at home ATM or I would be of more use lol...
the files have the suffix .home.xml

Now I've got another problem. Because the weather service and the top ten person is defined in the following file in reg. {B0C8Ac4B-CddC-4010-AAEB-076A2A6EB171}, but this file is just a path to another file HTCHome.dll. My problem here is that I can't find the file HTCHome.dll. I just find a bunch of HTCHome.dll files. All of them has an ending of *.mui. Like HTCHome.dll.0809.mui. and I can't open them eather. Somebody knows what to do?
And thanx for the help from everybody so far
Anybody please? I'm pretty green in this
Where are you seeing those? Are you sure your in the right section of the phones file system for the home screens?
Connect through active sync, then open "My window's based device" then go into application data, then Home and mine are all in there as .xml

I have found the file HTC.home.xls and opend it, inside the xml document I find this line of code:
<plugin clsid="{B0C8AC4B-CDDC-4010-AAEB-076A2A6EB171}" name="HTCHome" height="100" />
I have managed to fint out (at least I think so) that it is this plugin who shows the clock, the weaterservice and the top ten persons. When I found the B0C8AC4B-CDDC-4010-AAEB-076A2A6EB171} in regedit the value of this key is HTCHome.dll. When i search the whole phone for this dll file i can't find the spesific file, just a bunch of "lookalikes" like HTCHome.dll.0809.mui. This file is located in the windows directory with 5 dll files like this one, but with different numbers at the end. (ex. *.dll.041D.mui and so on). Or am I totally wrong here? Maybe it's a easier way to do this? (Make the weater service and top ten in the homescreen disappear).

Good work. Each CLSID is a different plugin. Each value nested within the CLSID is a modifier. If you want, say... the Most Recently Used items on your HTC home screen... take a look at the contents of one of the .home.xml files that has the MRU listed... and copy out the whole portion of the file that contains the information. They're even indented.

Aha, this is really good to know =)
But what to do when I want to remove something in a plug in, is that possible at all? In the plug in i talked about in my last post, there is three functions.
Number one shows the clock and makes it easier to acsess the alarm setting directly (without have to do so via configuration -> clock and alarm),
number two is the HTC Home weather service
and number three is favourite persons.
I wan't to remove the two last functions in this plug in.

It's quite possible that there is no way to only display parts of the plugin... as this function would have to be programmed into the plugin itself.
Take a look at the other plugins... like the one that shows appointments... you will see that there are portions labeled "text" which is the place where the text would be... you could... in essence... remove this part and have it not display text, but the plugin would still be present.
I hate to say it... but without HTC having programmed a solution to handle your request... you're better off using Facade.

Okai, I just have to live with it the hehe.
I have finally found out how to use fascade in i properly way. I actually don't need to use the default fascade homescreen (who by the way is quite terrible), but I can just use the plug ins. Is there by the way any clock plug in (maybe in fascade?) who makes it possible to set the alarm easy without going thru configuration? If there is, I can just remove the whole plug in in HTCHome and replace it with this.
Hi..nice to see some Homescreen-Interested guys here.
First;
The HTC-Live Homescreen-Plugin is limited to his Functions (Time,Weather,Favs) and not customizeable, there maybe a solution to edit some images like Weather-Icons or the Time-Font,thats all...not like his big Brother on HTC Touch(better to configure, two more Functions, MRU and MusicPlugin).
Sorry.
You can add and move any plugin on your Phone by editing the XML, but dont ask me for an HowTo,please...look into the other xxx.home.xml, it is really easy to customize the HomeScreen.
Some Infos:
The Plugin itself is in /Windows/HTCHome.dll, the .mui Files are LanguageFiles, you can modify and rename them to translate the plugin into your own Language, the HH_WEATHER_01-44.png and all the other HH_blabla...png files are the Images for the Clock,WeatherIcons...,
Happy editing...

Me too, I wanted to remove those two services. I took some fiddling with the xml-file and several plugins, but I managed to make something that looks quite like the Htc Home screen but has just the functionality I want.
Big other advantage is that I now suffer a lot less of the famous memory leaks.
See the result below.

Hello, perhaps anybody can help me.
I just got my XDA Diamond and thanks some genius guys posting here i got the htc rom running now and i am very happy about that.
I tried to find a thread where my folowing question will be answered but i couldn´t find one. If anyone knows about such a thread just send me a link or give me a advice. It´s not my attention to spam around....
I installed the task manager and saw lots of processes running like
operaplel.exe
poutlook.exe
sapsettings.exe
rapicInt
tmail.exe
biotouch.exe
quickgps.exe
SIPGT_app.exe
And I asked myselfe if I can shut down these processes if they arent necessary. Also i don´t know witch are importante and which not, or wich you need for doing what....
f i kill some of them, i´ll get more free ram, and perhaps better speed-performance with longer sandby-battery-time , would that be right????!!!!
I also read about the biotouch.exe that is total unnecessary on the diamond and is just necessary with the cube that the diamond doesn´t have.
Don´t know of that is right or not.
I also tried to find out how to prevent thes processes to autostart.
But there are thousands of entries in the reg. so i could find out anything...
Many Greeting to all
Markus
Ok, I tried to search for example for operaprel.exe in the registry, but i couldn´t find any key in the whole reg.
So there must be a other way to stop the autostart loading of this exe.
The i read about the autostart folder in windows but there istn´t the operaprel.exe...
So could anybody just give me a short advice or a link where this is explained...
I couldn´t find anything that helps me going on...sorry
I also found out that poutlook should better keep on running because its the mail client and tmail is the account manager.
And SAPSettings stands for SIM ACCESS PROFILE and is a Bluetooth Data transfer Protokol, so i´ll better keep it running...
1. Look into \Windows\StartUp folder. Sounds like it is the Autostart directory for WM. There is an item named HTCStartup. It could be the thing which launches opera loader and other things. I haven't tried removing it though. You can kill off opera loader using some process manager and everything will work fine.
2. tmail can be closed by launching Messagages via Start then closing it. Atleast for me it does close.
Hi i tried that, but i didn´t write down all the files that are loaded when i keep this files in the "windows/autostart/" folder.
But it seems that it is more free memory avriable.
I´m gonna test it today again and i hope it worked good.
But the operaprel.exe and some other files starts also...
But tanks alot for your advise!
Hello,
I have a HTC Touch Pro, and reviewing the device boot process I have called for "PKG.EXE" What it is for this executable, and what is its function within the Windows Mobile?. Thank you.
I also wanted to ask, for the experience you have with this model of HTC, and without touching the original ROM that takes (I have it under warranty still), as can optimize the use of battery power in an effective manner. I have the screen always the minimum possible, I avoid programs running in the background without the need (except for those at home), very few scheduled alarms, and Wi-Fi/Bluetooth disconnected when not in use. ActiveSync also disconnected when not in use. The phone in 2G (3G off). I note that for some time takes me barely a day battery. I just replaced the battery with a new original, and even if I'm watching longer than the load. The control program of the battery is the partner who has designed BattClock, adjusted query interval to 120 seconds.
Sincerely,
Sometimes, the easiest thing to do is open up a dll or exe with a text editor. Here's what's in pkg.exe (other than all the binary crap):
c:\Documents and Settings\Jocelyn_Yang.HTCTAIPEI\Desktop\Autorun_package_splash_2577\PKG\Windows Mobile 5.0 Pocket PC SDK (ARMV4I)\Release\PKG.pdb

So, I'd guess that Jocelyn Yang wrote it, lol. Maybe you should email her. The other thing I'd guess is that it's part of the autorun process that carries out customization.

Hello Farmer Ted,
Thank you very much for answering.
Open the "exe" with a text editor binary, and saw nothing to give me a clue, actually left peri "Jocelyn Yang's" name in the file.
Do you think that might Elimite this call in the Windows Start Mobile (PKG.LNK) and remove this file "PKG.EXE" folder "Windows" without affecting the operation me right out of my HTC Touch Pro?. Please let me might help in this matter, not having unnecessary files on my mobile device. Thank you very much.
Sincerely,
It's in rom, so you can't delete it (no matter how hard you try). I don't have it running at startup personally, so if there's a link in your startup folder, you can probably remove it. I really doubt there will be an issue, but you should always do a backup before messing with your startup queue, in case it freezes the device and forces a hard reset.

Hello Farmer Ted,
Thanks for answering. What if I would be interested to know is that this file is, you know what your purpose in the operating system. Google is that I have not found an explanation of this file.
Sincerely,
All I can tell you is that it's in the OEM Drivers section of the rom. I doubt it does much. There is some garbage left over in your startup folder sometimes after bootup. If you see an autoshortcut.lnk file and and HTCstartup.lnk file, you can delete both of those. They're used during customization. I'm guessing that pkg.exe runs during 1st boot, then isn't necessary, but I really don't know.

Hello Farmer Ted,
Thank you very much for answering. Well there is something more about this file. I ventured to remove it (copied to another folder before it), and I got a little scare, as before restarting the device after a soft-reset, did it again another soft-reset automatically... I thought it would go into a loop, but no... after the second soft-reset my device it definitely started. I have always taken a backup with SPB Backup, in case I completely reset the device.
I did not want to take more risks, and I left the file in your site... I think it really annoys. But thanks to you and is something more about it, but not quite... continues the mystery about it...
Sincerely,
If you have sk tools, it's got a good startup manager. It will allow you to disable/re-enable items in the startup folder, and will save the shortcuts for you. You definitely need to be careful with startup, though, as you can get into reset loops and boot-ups to frozen devices. You're probably good to go. I don't have a link to pkg.exe in my startup, so it's not something vital. The crucial stuff is all launched in HKLM\init, anyway, I believe.
Once, I just wanted a particular task manager to run at startup, so I put a link in the folder, thinking nothing of it. It caused hell. The device would boot to the today screen, then freeze as the plugins loaded, but not always at the exact same place. After about 10 resets, it got far enough along that I was able to open total commander and delete the startup link before the device froze, then re-start it.
Hello,
I have a HTC HD2 and I make a ROM upgrade from T-Mobile-Rom 1.48 up to T-Mobile-Rom 1.72 - after the update the device was very slow, so I look in the autostart-folder and find two new links there I never see by my old Rom - I read our post and delete it (pkg.lnk and HTCstartup.lnk) - after this I make a softreset. The device startup without any problem and was very fast... so it work's now very fast and good but I can't say what the two link's do...
Sorry for my bad english...
Bye Mommel

Hello,
I followed your advice of using SK Tools (an indispensable tool for me with Windows Mobile, together with MemMaid), and I started off on the Windows Mobile the two processes that says: "PKG.lnk" and "HTCstartUP.lnk".
As indicated by "mommel" also in this forum thread, which also had these two processes and eliminated, now the device will boot much faster, and no one notices that nothing goes wrong ... for now. As I have simply disabled, not totally eliminated, thus I will continue trying to run my device.
Thank you for your valuable information. I believe this forum thread is very instructive and I'm glad I initiated if more partners relevant to the forum.
Sincerely,

Hello,
I followed what you indicate in your message, and using SK Tools (an indispensable tool for me with Windows Mobile, together with MemMaid), I turned off the Windows Mobile Start you indicate the two processes (com also says "Farmer Ted": "PKG.lnk" and "HTCstartUP.lnk".
This amendment also boots faster my HTC Touch Pro (HTC original ROM with WM6.1 Pro), and also seems to go faster running after starting.
The pity is not actually know these two processes that serve simply to increase our knowledge of the Windows Mobile.
Thank you for your information.
Sincerely,
Basically, it's HTC's fault. They're sloppy with the initial boot-up of the device, those links should be deleted after first boot. There's also some stuff you can disable in the HKLM\init queue and in the HKCU\Software\HTC\bootlauncher queue. In the init keys, there's one for autotimeupdate. It doesn't appear to do anything, so you can just delete the key (I think it's 120). I delete the tmail key in bootlauncher (I've never missed having tmail running in the background). If you use a custom sip (other than ezinput), you can delete the 'startkey' reg key, as this just initiates ezinput. I've never missed sipgt_app.exe, so you can delete that piece of crap, too. My boot times are 60-65 seconds (I don't run manila; I use 6.5, but boot-times are faster with 6.1). If you trim the fat, you can speed up re-boots a ton. Just don't delete the keys for core processes-that could end in a hard reset. I recommend doing a full backup before really messing with the registry keys.
