Hi i have set my Diamond to check my email every 30mins but it does not turn off the GPRS once its checked it. is there a software or tweak that will allow me to do this.
Blumin COSTLY!!!!
Use SchapĀ“s Advanced Config to select a timeout for an idle data connection (amongst so many other things/tweaks.....)....
Sorry can you show step by step where to config the timeout?
THX in advance.
Thanks for the reply i used schaps but it does not state a time out period.
From anywhere in the application go down to bottom right hand side and tap menu
then go to connection settings, there you should see a box with Disconnect after and a selection of timings. Hope this helps.
Hi,
and thanks for your help...I supposed it could be the right setting, but I thought that by doing it, it will stop any kind of data connection, even if I'm on the web. I mean it should stop data connection anyway according to the setting...no metter if system is checking for new mail or I'm with safari on the web...
I think that it will only stop data connection if there is no action for xxx minutes, ie if there is no information being transferred. So, if you are actively browsing or downloading email or whatever, then it won't shut the connection down.
Well...tested and it worked...at least for mail chaking...now I have to test it with safari on...
Thanx a lot again!

Is there any application for the tilt/tytn ll that can count all the KB/MB used on a data connection through 3g/wifi. And that it has a reset counter button?
I ask this because i only have a 5mb data plan and its very pricy per kb if i go over. I need something to keep track on how much i used between the monthly limit.

sounds like a good idea.

Go to http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/products/gprsmonitor/?en
Click on download (not the cab one) and you should get:-
SpbGPRSMonitor2_setup
Open this, let it do its thing and when you next sync, install the cab file to 'device'.
Pdf manual is on the site - program works well and you can set daily limits etc.
Is there an Open Source alternative? or freeware?
Freeware
I found this. Still can't get the data counter to work but it seems like he is working on it. The app seems to be mostly for prepaid calling accounts.

Please let me know if you find anything else.

SPB GPRS Monitor came free with my O2 Stellar (and my Trion/Hermes.... and the Wizard).
It has a today plugin and you can set it to monitor a given connection (so all GPRS or just the one used for web access) and it just works. Is really quite cool (unless you get your settings wrong and your MMS is pulled down over the GPRS/Web settings and becomes chargable).
i use batterystatus to count my data and calls and SMS
none of those programs
I don't have anything in my battery status app that indicates data usage. Maybe I have a different rom. Is there a link to this software somewhere? And I have no software cd for my phone.

go to settings>Today>Items>click on Batterystatus and on the right side click options and the call and data counter are in there...just check them
still no data
Thanks for the quick reply.
When I go into the Today -items panel. There is no battery status application, only:
date, owner info, messaging, tasks, calendar, windows live, windows live search, skype, and device lock
I have a battery status on the today screen by default in the bottom right that takes me to the "power" screen.
Thoughts?

BatteryStatus is a Today plug-in - check it out here and here on xda-developers - it is great.
working
thanks guys. got that plugin working and am now tracking my data usage which is perfect as I am heading over to germany tomorrow and don't feel like getting an $800 bill like last time when AT&T overcharged me for data by $600. Now if only I could figure out how to have the phone not use 60k every time I need to check POP mail I would be set.

I am a Mac OS X user which is sometimes a bit tough especially in this forum for testing ROM's. I finally got push email working today through a ridiculous combination of forwarding and deleting. I am now on the mail2web exchange server and am attempting to add calendar functionality via some Mac software. this should finally reduce the data usage and I do have it set tot 1k for each message. On the POP access, I think it had to communicate with my mail server a lot. Who knows?
Doesn' seem to work with HTC diamond and manila.
Hi everybody, right now I try to set up the HTC Diamond for my father, so far so easy .
I just have one major (and one minor) problem:
Is there a way to forbit the Diamond to go online at all? Right now, when you by chance hit the weather button, he just starts to establish a data connection. The Diamond is not supposed to go online at all over the normal cell phone network (probably over WLAN, but that is not important). Is there a way to disable that, or at least ask if you want to go online?
And the minor problem/question, is there a way to configure which buttons are on the bottom? E.g. he doesn't need to have E-Mail there.
Thanx a lot for your help , and I hope, I haven't overlooked a thread with the awsers .
Try remove the grps settings in settings \ connections \ connections \ manage connections. It should't connect if it does't have a connections to use
Use TF3D Config to remove tabs. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=405749
I removed mail, internet and contacts myself.
or try 'NO DATA' its a cab file in artemis section, you can select and deselect real easy
Thanx a lot for the quick help. TF3D and deleting the connection did the job . I will use NoData.cab for my self, as soon as the HTC Touch pro is out and in my hands.

It's much more easyer to disable autoupdate in weather panel- options . You can disable mail panel using tf3d config.Disable 3g and that's it. You can go online every time you want.
My father has the incredible talent by having no idea what he does, he finally makes the think he isn't supposed . I actually already disablked the weather feature, but he worked his magic.
Good thread! I was wondering this too. But my phone connects with 3G if i am in oprah and my WLAN connection died for a second. I will try nodata though!
looking for a way to stop the htc diamond of connecting to the internet all the time i would like to do this on a manual basis , thanks
Edit the title of the thread... you might get a better response rate.
you could remove the connection under Start --> Settings --> Connections --> Connections then tap and hold and choose delete.
and you will get flamed for such a useless title for your post
you could remove the connection under Start --> Settings --> Connections --> Connections then tap and hold and choose delete
yeah.. do that..
and then everytime you want to connect to the net... enter the settings again.
OR..
WHY Don't you just disable everything that is starting off your internet on it's own.
That could include the Weather updates (set it to manual), Scheduled Downloading of your emails (set it to manual),
Push mail
hell, could be anything depending on what you have installed on your diamond.
JFTR, Just to make things clear - when I suggested editing the title of the thread - I do not mean something like WM6.1 HTC Touch Diamond
I mean, a title which would reflect your problem ...

Just put up my suggestion too. That's all.
Ok, throughout the day I noticed that the Media Net (EDGE) starts up (two little E's at the top of the tilt displaying) for several min. When I tap the E, it shows "Media Net (EDGE)" connected. Sometimes it stays connected for 15 to 45mins, other times just a few min. When I go to task manager, it does not show anything running. I do not have anything updating, the only two programs I have I update manually which is SBSH weather and a POP email account. How can I tell what it is looking for or what data it is transferring etc.. Why is it connecting?
So with this, how can I figure whats going on and how do I fix it, or this normal.
I do have KasierTweak, is there something in there I can adjust?
Thanks
and yes did a search, I guess I could not find the proper wording to get the right result's

?? I have used mamaid long time ago, so I dont know.
Its most likely the updates(weather).
But I dont know what u want now, do u want to stop it?
Edit: are u sure u have the auto updates turned off?(in weather)
could u post all installed apps?
Ok, all my weather updates are turned off.
Memaid will show all programs running and running processes.
Which one should I look under when the Media Net kicks on?
Question what will I'll be looking for, what specific program or what will Media Net (EDGE) look like. Will it say Media Net or something?
Like for instance, right now they have 14 processes running
all .exe processes

No, it won't appear there. When it connects on its own look at the running processes and try to guess if you can find one that might require net access.
Another hint, you say you have a POP e-mail account set up. Check that it isn't defined to check for mail automatically each X minutes. If I remember well this can get enabled by default when you add an account.
Ok, this is what is showing in the "running processes" before the mediaNet kicks on. I have not been able to catch it yet while running. Anything in here looks suspicious that should not be there?
device.exe 2.75mb
cprog.exe 2.63mb
gwes.exe 2.37mb
filesys.exe 2.34mb
shell32.exe 1.87
Transport.exe 315.76kb
services.exe 295.67kb
connmgr.exe 147.71kb
MortScript.exe 115.90kb
HTC ActionScreen.exe 47.90kb
poutlook.exe 31.90kb
saddaemon.exe 31.90kb
NK.exe 0Bytes
Thanks
I've never seen "Transport.exe". A quick search tells me about some Arcsoft program. Maybe it's checking for updates?
As Mikulec asked, a list of the programs you've installed could help... we don't know about all the programs out there...
The programs I have installed;
Kaisertweak
HTC Home plugin
Live Search
Opera
HHC Customize
ILauncher
Pocketweather
HTC Diamond Qwerly
Battery Status
Memaid
Finger Friendly Friends
Again guys thanks for your time and help.
MediaNet just kicked on and I went to running processes and I did not see anything different than what I listed above. Will check again though to be sure.

me either. Arcsoft is messaging program and it could be MMS related. Maybe its downloading mms.
Do u send and receive mms?

this is probably the culprit for your dilemma unless you are accidentally selecting the weather tab on htc home
ok guys went through a rechecked all my settings, I did check the HTC home screen weather to make sure it was on manual update (i do not use the weather program) also made sure that all my auto settings on pocketweather is turn off. I did make one other adjustment though, will see if this helped.
Funny thing is that when MediaNet kicks on, it doesn't appear to effect my battery.
Again, thanks for the replies. Will advise the outcome.
I've searched for an answer to this but can't find anything.
When I use Mobile Web it seems to stay connected after I have closed the browser. I know this because Notifications window states 'Mobile Web' and shows the time elasped counting up and the 'H' symbol. Opera is definitely closed. Im worried that this is killing my battery life!
Thanks for any input

You can change it with some registry changes. Check my tutorial about it (all credits go to XDA-Developers).
I created as well a small cab file which does the changes for you.
Thanks for that BeeGee,
I installed the cab, turned the phone off and then on but unfortuntely it hasn't made a differernce. According to the Notifications window, Mobile web has been connected for over 25 mins now and counting

How do you close the browser? Are you sure its closed, or is it just in the background?
Standard settings are that the X in the top right corner does not close the program, but close only the window of the program.
I use the X top right to close the program. If I check the 'quick menu' (top right of home page) opera is not listed there as running.

strange, the registry changes work fine on my Topaz.
another manual possibility is to press and hold the red phone button. This should shut down the connection. I used this before I found the registry changes.
Sorry, not sure what you mean about the 'red phone button'?
close opera from within the opera menu, then it wil really close.
otherwise it wil be running in the background (not noticeble).

Sorry for being not clear enough.
On the lower part of your Topaz are 4 buttons. the most left one is to pick up a call or open phone (usually green) the most right button is to end a call (usually red button). Press and hold the most right button. Depending on your settings, it will lock your phone (configurable in settings-buttons), but it will as well disconnect data connections of your phone.
Oh right, I see now. I had to change the buttons function in settings, to 'end data connections'. It now disconnects mobile web when pressed
I reinstalled your cab just to see if that would work the second time but still no luck.
Thanks v.much for your help
