Hi,
I got a Dopod 595 from Taiwan with updated firmware
ROM 1.15.709.3
Radio 1.06.00.10
Service Pack 3.709.1.7
http://www.dopodasia.com/Dopod/Singapore/En/Products/SmartPhone/595/spec.htm
From the spec, it says it is HSDPA, Edge enabled. However, the Cingular store here in San Jose, CA says otherwise. That's why I can't get on the Cingular 3G network or Edge. I can only get on internet via GPRS.
Is that true, if not, can someone please let me know how can I get on Cingular's 3G network ?
Thank you
Alan
Lately I have been doing my best at running speedtests in different locations and on different connections to gather information on speeds. I have been testing G, E, 3G, H, and Wifi connections. I think that this information is very valuable to certain people.
I would be very interested and appreciate very much if other could test the speed of their data connections and post results in a similar fashion as mine here.
Thanks for your support. Please feel free to compare tests with mine and others.
Device Setup
Device: Att Tilt

Location: Minnesota
ROM: Duty's WM6 5.2.19199
Radio: 1.58.21.23

Test: http://text.dslreports.com/mspeed
Browser: Opera Mobile 8.65
G: ~50kbit/sec
E: ~190kbit/sec
3G: ~310kbit/sec
H*: ~390kbit/sec
Wifi 5meg ~790kbit/sec
These are averages after all my tests. If there is any more info you would like to see added to the tests, please feel free to chime in.
*I'm not sure if my H speeds are correct. I may have just been on a 3G network but it showed up as H. If someone could explain how to know if you're actually on H, I would be greatfull.
This should be a good thread for comparing speeds, here is mine

You cant use Opera Mini to test. You're only getting the result from dslreports server to opera server not dslreports server to your phone. You have to use a real browser like PIE or Opera mobile. I find the mspeed test is not accurate for testing the network speed. The phone processes the data to slowly to show the true network speed. tether your phone to a PC and goto speedtest.net to see the real network speed. I get 400k-700k in HSDPA area on the phone but 1200k-1600k in the same area but tethered to a laptop. Also where's the wifi mode with 5mg and 20mg files you guys are talking about?
Forgot Opera processes web pages first, will edit my results using PIE

Sorry, should have made that one more clear.
This was done on my home network using the phones 802.11g wifi connection and by 5mb I mean that was the connection speed my ISP is giving me.
Thanks for your results!

WHOA! Nice. Was this on 3G or HSDPA? What location?

This is on my laptop with the Aircard, my Tilt will average 250k on dslreports, 1MB file. In Iowa.

Wow, must be nice for those of you pulling that 1.5mb down. I can only dream of the possibilities there...

I tether to my pc and the test was done with speedtest.net
I've tried alömost all combinations of radios and ROMs on my TyTN II in Sweden (Gotherburg).
I get 1.2-1.8 mbit/s downloads and 0.1 mbit/s upload on my phone or if I tether.
I also get MUCH worse latency on the phone.
My USB HSDPA modem gives me a solid 4-5 mbit/s down and 0.4 mbit/s up using the same SIM-card.
I'm very dissapointed I must say.
While I didn't really expect the phone to be as fast as a dedicated modem I at least expected to get 3+ mbit/s I also expected better latency. I have 100 ms ping to my isps closest server using my usb modem. Using the phone I get 400 or so (sometimes up to 1000 ms ).
What's the point of HSDPA 7,2 mb if the phone can't use it anyways?

Tethered to my laptop on HSDPA via Bluetooth PAN using speedtest.net
Although i'm in San Antonio, it says i'm in orlando florida (i guess thats the server i'm connected to) So i did two tests, one where it recommended and one in San Marcos, TX (Closest to me)
They both came very close to each other so i guess i shouldn't worry about it.

You really saw twice the speed when you removed user name and password settings from medianet? What possessed you to do that in the first place? I would assume it wouldn't work without that information. What is the downfall to removing it?

Someone posted that removing the username and password would give you a faster connection, so i thought i'd test it out. It obviously was not true in my previous test. I'm re-testing now because i changed to dutty's latest rom and here are my results:
Device Setup
Device: AT&T Tilt
Network: AT&T
Location: San Antonio, Texas
ROM: Dutty's WM6.1 Hybrid UC RTM [April 1st update]
Radio: 1.64.08.21
Browser: PIE
All test done while connected to HSDpA
With username and password, no proxy, & opendns.com servers
text.dslreports.com/mspeed
686 kbit/sec | 0.382s Latency | 12.317s d/l time (Transferring 1mb file)
mobilespeedtest.com
762.60kbps
WithOUT username and password, no proxy, & opendns.com servers
text.dslreports.com/mspeed
585 kbit/sec | 0.38s Latency | 14.382s d/l time (Transferring 1mb file)
mobilespeedtest.com
762.60kbps
So it looks like dslreports.com is saying its slower without the username and pass with mobilespeedtest.com giving the same result for 2 out of 3 tries. I'm tempting to run the dslreports test again but my PIE keeps hanging!
Just to let u guys know, i cleared my cache and temp files before each test, and each test was done with the phone in the same location.
Okay so I figured I'd duplicate those tests in my area. Suffolk County, Long Island. I'm right outside the border of the 3G area, so these are tests on EDGE:
Without user/pass: 160, 149, 136
With user/pass: 153, 169, 152
So, not a huge difference for me, maybe because of EDGE?
To those of you getting around 1.8mb down when tethered:
Does your phone say H or 3G when running these tests?
If you go to settings>connections>hsdpa and toggle that on/off, how does that effect your speeds?
Hey guys,
Basically its like the title says, Is the Diamond slower at HSDPA speeds than a dedicated 3G dongle?
I have a Compact IV with Web and Walk MAX on my account, HSDPA and HSUPA enabled on the account (I've rung technical and they checked to make sure everythings enabled) and I seem to be getting slower speeds than a normal Tmobile E220 with W+W plus, in the same spot.
Basically I had the phone on top of the dongle and first attempted to download a file from bbc website while using my compact IV as a modem and got average of around 40-60 kbps
I then ran the same download using the dongle, in the same spot and was getting 150-250 kbps
I tryed again with the compact IV connected using WMWifi Router and getting the same 40-60 kbps
Gonna test my Sim in a modem on friday make double sure its the phone but its a bit annoying getting W+W max through a phone that is meant to handle 7.2HSDPA but only getting 25% of the speed of a dongle that can only do upto 3.6
Anyone else noticed slower speeds when using the diamond as a modem?
Thanks
Damian
I have a big problem with my Tilt 2. When connected with 3g I can navigate in Internet, also can talk with video in Skype with full quality and no loose of signal or calling interruptions, but when I try to download a file from everywhere I got only 3 to 5 kb/s. When trying the mobilespeedtest the max speed is 100 kb/s.
I´m very confused. Why can connect with skype and with full video but can´t download a file.
I have test this with 3 Tilt 2 and always got the same speed, but when I try with an Iphone the speed rise to 700kb/s and when I try with a dedicated modem got up to 1.4 mb/s.
Sorry about my english, I hope somebody can help me.
Note: Trying the electron73 advance network cab (advance noicons cab), the SH4 Raphael Net speed boost and the jh 20001´s Tilt 2 data speed fix 1.0 cab and nothing works to me.
I live in chile and use the Movistar 850 Mhz frecuency in 3g, ATT same band.
Before the Tilt 2 I use the Fuze and no problems with it.

Hi all,
I been testing 4G speeds on this phone and so far I am disappointed with the results. I am getting around 4 or 5 Mbps download and around 3/4 Mbps upload. I used to get 50/60 Mbps on my Pixel 4 Xl. I am on Virgin Mobile network in the UK. I know that the phone has fewer frequency bands but this is quite dramatic difference in speed.
Can others with the Chinese version let me know if they have noticed any big differences in speeds with this phone.
Thanks.
Your tencent phone support all the bands used by Virgin Mobile now (1, 3, 7) but it might change in 2021. Try keying in the APN.

That's make it even stranger. I've used the following APN settings:
Name: Virgin Internet
APN: goto.virginmobile.uk
Username: user
MMSC: http://mms.virginmobile.co.uk:8002
MMS Proxy: 193.30.166.2
MMS Port: 8080
Authentication Type: PAP. If you're given a choice of APN types, select internet+mms, or if the keyboard appears, the * symbol.
A quick update: So I've speed tested my phone at several locations now and I'm happy to say that it is averaging a healthy 30/40 Mbps download. So I guess I will be keeping this phone.
Was about to post regarding the speed. At home is poop but when I'm out and about I get upwards of 60mbps down and 40upload with EE.
