TYTN 2 & the 3 network skype - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

Hi everyone,
i went to a 3store today to get a TYTN 2 on 3 network UK. I thought we could use the free skype minutes they offer on other handsets, but they said no, use the wifi!!!
I was wondering if anyone knows a way to connect to their skype service. Thanks
PS: Please include links to any software or recent methods you might know.

Hi, I'd also like to know if this possible. Have a 3 PAYG sim and get 30 days free skype when I pay for the internet add-on but cannot work out how to use the 3G network for my calls. Cheers

I think fring will do what you want.
The website says you can make skype calls.
www.fring.com "fring is based on a unique thin-client technology that for the first time enables true VoIP over 3G, GPRS and WiFi networks"
I installed it on my stock rom AT&T Tilt (Kaiser) but have not tested.
I hope that helps.

Thanks but i think for that you should have access to the internet. I can easily use the skype program instead. The problem is that skype is not the type of skype 3 network is using ( they use a java based program).
I read an article and someone had used the skype from a LG phones with 3 and Esmertec Jbed, but that was an Australian version. does anyone have a UK version?

This would rock if it is possible! Anyone know where to download a UK version?

I think we need to find someone with a non nokia phone from 3 UK, so he can give us the jar file. preferably LG
What do you think?

anyone from uk? or anyone knows a professional UK website? please

Anyone found this?

Can anyone with a TyTn II from the 3 network confirm if it comes with Planet 3 and Skype software installed?

I use Three...
Ah, you forgot to read the ultra-small fine print that states that the offer for *all* phones has expired and it's now only on *selected* handsets that seem to exclude the TyTN 2, also you can't get the sim-only and install the Three free Skype or Live Messenger on a non-Three phone+rom without some custom ROM hacking.
To make matters worse, if you get the £5 Unlimited Internet Access, the small print is that Three block Skype and Live Messenger so they can't be used (thought I think you can buy the £10 option that allows them?) - even if you want to pay for them outside the unlimited bundle. You can use IM+ BeejiveIM etc, to access Live Messenger though, and as far as I'm aware it seems to be included in the Unlimited access...
Oh, and if you want to access Planet3/My3 on your phone you can do so, but first you need to go into Advanced Config and change your "User Agent Custom Base" to "HTC_TyTN_II Mozilla/4.0" and then use the URL "http://mobile.three.co.uk/837_sc/index.do"
The Planet3/My3 will only work when accessing the page though the 3 connection and not WiFI or ActiveSync, but is acuttaly pritty nifty at checking you accound balance, tops ups, addons and such like.

Thanks a lot for the information you provided. Damn it, I made a big mistake as i could've got the Nokia N95 with Skype and Live Msg + unlimited internet for £5 cheaper every month...!

Hi guys,
This is a solution for the Skype on Three network issue. I had placed it on another forum (http://www.3g.co.uk/3GForum/showthread.php?p=385677) and one guy has reported it working, but apparently, it might not work with WM5, only with WM6. Please give it a whirl and let me know if it works for you.
Feedback is great for both me as well as others

Annuntio vobis gaudium magnum
(I have great and joyous news)
I believe that I have succeeded in getting the native Iskoot WM6 client for Skype to connect to the Three/3 service. I am still testing it and would appreciate your feedback.
Steps
a) Download and install the Iskoot client for Windows Mobile 6 . Try the direct link here (http://www.iskoot.com/pc_download/Wi...1.54_WMpro.CAB)
b) After installation, start the application, but DO NOT sign in. Instead exit it. The reason for doing this is to create the default registry entries for Iskoot.
c) Now start your favourite registry editor (I personally use Resco Registry Editor, but you should be able to use any. Please do not ask me how to use the registry editor. This is not the appropraite forum.)
d) Head for the following location in the registry: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\ISKOOT\SKYPE\DEVICE
e) Update all the following entries to the same value "http://mobile.three.co.uk/948" (do not include the "double quotes")
BackupHost
CallUrl
DefaultSkHost
Pushhost
f) Exit the registry editor of choice and start and log into Iskoot. This might take some time. It took me about five minutes.
It should now be configured to connect to the 3 Skype service. To cross-verify, check that the registry key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\ISKOOT\SKYPE\DEVICE\Cal lNumber has the value +447838333894 (the 3 Skype dial-out number). It should be automatically added by the software.
As I have mentioned earlier, I am still testing this. However, with this implementation, it should not use your included minutes, but the free Skype allocation. Please test the same and let us all know if that is the case or you have noticed that your inclusive minutes have been used up.
I do not know how to modify cabs. But if somebody can rebuild the original Iskoot cab with these settings built-in, that would be great.
I have noticed that the sound quality on this is considerably better as compared to the Skype Java client.

Thanks for the information. I tried it on my Hermes and it worked great.
Unfortunately, when I tried the same thing on my Kaiser, all I ever get is "Currently unable to connect".
I can't see why there would be any difference between the two phones, but the Hermes never fails and the Kaiser never succeeds!
Any suggestions?

For Windows Mobile 6.1, MS .net Framework 3.5 is required, otherwise, "Currently unable to connect" error might appear
SkypeOut is officially supported (if not, very soon) by 3UK,
http://www.skype.com/intl/en-gb/allfeatures/3skypephone/overseascalling/
with some restrictions (read the small print!)
I failed to get Skypein to work, however.
And Skypeout is a bit unstable at the moment, might be 3UK is upgrading their servers...

I think what some people did is to download a java version of the iskoot (for other non-WM phone) and decompiled the java class/jad file and find the URL string. I guess if you can somehow intercept the outgoing network traffic from a 3 customized iskoot client running on another phone (perhaps on a Symbian phone trying to communicate to the server via wifi, which wouldn't connect successfully I believe, but still let you), parse the network packet to find out its intended destination will do the trick too.

Thanks for the tip, but the problem is that the only phone with skype is the amoi 8512 (http://www.3skypephone.com/english/index.html have you ever seen it?) I do not have x-series with skype, but a specific offer wich works only with this phone. This phone does not have wifi, so I cannot sniff packet through network, and the iskoot client is not java, but specifically made for it (when I run it, the Java log does not apper), so I do not know how I could extract the url. The only thing I have done is to get its user agent to replace it on the Tytn II, the Amoi 8512 user agent is " [FONT=&quot]Amoi 8512/R22.0 NF-Browser/3.3[/FONT]" without double quote, of course.

I was in your situation until a week ago when I found the 3 UK setting. It is so frustrating that I knew all it requires is a correct URL address yet I didn't know what it is!
What you may want to try is to first identify which X-series phone that 3 Italy support apart from the skypephone. And then change your Tytn II 's broswer agent string to one of those phone that use a JAVA iskoot client instead of a native client like Symbian client. Then use your phone browser to 3 ITA portal and try to download the iskoot (Skype) software. 3 ITA server should now think that you have a compatible phone so it will present you with the Java client. Once you go the .jar file, you can proceed to extract the URL from there...
I think people used SEW910I to get the 3 Australia client.
Try this for the Browser agent string:
SonyEricssonW910i/R1CA Browser/NetFront/3.4 Profile/MIDP-2.1 Configuration/CLDC-1.1
I tried the above suggestion myself to try to get the URL from 3 UK's client, but I can't remember why I stopped, and then later I found that the URL is already know on some other forums on the Internet...
Good luck!

HTC Kaiser / Vodafone v1615 - Vodafone live access

Folks,
Used to have a HTC Universal (Vodafone v1640) that I never got working with Vodafone Live in the UK. Now have a v1615 (Kaiser) and wondering if this device can be made to work and access Vodafone Live.
I'm fairly technically literate (though not an expert!) and have to admit to getting a touch lost on a couple of things I've read on various websites. Not to sure how to change registry settings on my machine, but no probs learning, and very familiar with all the standard wap settings etc required.
My v1640 used to just hang if i pointed it to "www.live.vodafone.com", my Kaiser will now access the site but gives the following error in Explorer:
"Unable to determine IP address from host name for www.live.vodafone.com
The dnsserver returned:
Name error: The domain name does not exist.
This means that:
The cache was not able to resolve the hostname presented in the URL. Check if the address is correct"
I never got this error message on the 1640 - it just sat there and did nothing. So i'm wondering if this is any further progress or not? Or are these HTC devices (as Vodafone confirmed today) just not meant to connect to Live without serious tweaking.
I am more than happy to have a hack at my machine but am slightly lost at where to start here in order to achieve this on my brand new device for which there still doesn't seem to be much info.
Have Vodafone got this device almost ready to access Live? Or is one of the posts i've seen somewhere just a fantasy?!
All I really need is just a basic guide going through it with this new device.
Can't believe Vodafone don't have this working in the first place...
Thanks.
Isn't it live.vodafone.com rather than www.live.vodafone.com?
yes, and you need some proxy settings as well to use it. the only way I got Live.vodafone.com to work was by adding it as a modem connection under my work network if you are looking to use it as a data plan only and it will only work with EAS and PIE, no VOIP or messenger will work. As for using the vodafone live site, you need to change some regkey settings that will fool the the vodafone proxy to think that you have an approved handset for vodafone live, you should find examples in this forum if you search around, I think Modaco also has some entries on this. Bottom line is that Vodafone never intended to let it be used with PPC, because once they loose that control they cannot sell their services, advertise etc which is why it's a relatively useless solution for anyone who use their offer of 500 MB for 10 Eur or something along those lines.
Cheers
LBN
Thanks guys. Yes - it is just live.vodafone.com - was too busy with work...
Ok, starting to get an idea of what needs to be done. Have seen so many posts on various websites that I wasn't quite sure where to start.
I'm guessing that changing the regkey settings is the first thing to try then? Is there an easy to use registry tweaking tool?
Been messing around for a while now and nothing I do seems to make any difference!
I've tried all kinds of different Reg Key settings, every combination of wap and internet access points, and nothing seems to change anything.
Basically no matter what i enter, (either wsp://live.vodafone.com or http://live.vodafone.com) it only connects through a wap connection, and it only brings up a very basic vodafoneLive series of text based web pages with no access to anything interesting.
Do WM6 devices such as mine have different Reg Key settings / areas that need modifying? I'm surprised that putting Nokia settings in, or any other setting has no effect at all!
Anyone??
The vodafone live portal requires a "template" to be present at the vodafone end which defines which screen size and content the device can handle. Unless Vodafone have created one for the v1615, you will need to alter the useragent to look like a device which does have a template...
Without a devices presenting its self as a supported device, you will not be able to access live services.
Why not look at the user agent of the Treo 500v? That is the frist real consumer WM device which has the ability to view the live portal.
Gotcha. Makes sense, thanks for the tip.
Any idea where to find details of a Treo 500v user agent?? Will give it a go if I know where to find one!
Hi,
Take a look at
http://www.modaco.com/Vodafone-Live-Settings-t259142.html
Guys,
I just got a Vodafone Treo 750v which i really like. but it doesn't have Vodafone Live or Mobile TV access on it as standard. I managed to get my Tytn II working (with your help and the Modaco forum) several months ago and now I'm trying to see if you or anyone can get my 750v working.
First thing i did was install a cab file (from the thread in the post above) on my machine and setup a wap connection and i was straight in to Vodafone Live all of a sudden. Got to mobile tv page but Windows media player wouldn't connect via wap. So went to xda-developers page and downloaded the HTC v2.10 streaming player and installed it and set it up to connect via wap.
Success, almost - choosing a channel to watch now launches the HTC player and starts to buffer the video but when it gets to almost 100% buffered and is ready to start showing video it suddenly hangs, then has an error and wants to send an error log to Microsoft. Its almost like the HTC player is missing something or some codec or dll file.
Anyone know how to crack this last bit? Anyone use a different Streaming media player to do this?
Hope someone can help!
Paul

Can I make the BB server think I am a different device?

I want to use BB connect to get my email/etc pushed to my Kaiser. I set it up fine, but got a call from TechSupport saying only the BB 8700c is allowed after it reported back to them that I was using a Kaiser.
Anyone know a way to fake out the BB push server to make it think I am using a 8700c and not the Kaiser?
Thanks!~
That's nonsense. I'm using a Tilt on the Blackberry Enterprise Server. Maybe the aren't aware that the Tilt has BB service?
Anyway, try downloading the BB connect desktop software. From there you can configure your device automatically to connect.
that's not the issue.
To the OP,
do you have BlackBerry Connect? Or BlackBerry Connect with PDA Connect?
Because if you just have Blackberry Connect, AT&T's Policies say that you must have the PDA Connect and Blackberry Connect package to use the blackberry on a non RIM device. I know it's stupid. I know just using Blackberry Connect will work ( I'm doing it too ). But it's AT&T's policies.
Also, re-check your OLAM and see if they removed or added any feature after calling you. Sometimes the system will red-flag and attach the pda connect feature. If you got a call just by using it, not by calling, then your account was most likely flagged by the system.
I think he has BB Connect and it works fine for him, but his corp is telling him to use only the corp issued BB 8700c.
I'd like to figure this out as well.
Even if you manage to "cloak" your device now, I'm pretty sure your IMEI gets sent along with the rest of your device information.
If you suddenly start using a "Blackberry 8700c" with the same IMEI as your Kaiser, they may smell a rat (of course, they may never notice).
I have a similar issue. I cant use 3 live stream because my device is identyfied as a tytn and not as a nokia crap phone... anyone had luck in changing id in explorer?
I think there's a reason if your corp admin only allow genuine Blackberry devices.
Ie. even if you get the Blackberry connect, your Kaiser won't be able to remotely wipe itself in case you loose it ...
(so that make perfect sense to me)

Yes, I created a cab file to identify my phone as an N95 so that I could use Vodafone Live. Someone on the Modaco forum mentioned that it also worked for "3", though I can't confirm that myself.
Here's a copy. You can install it to identify the phone as an N95, and uninstall it to go back to normal...
Should also mention that for Vodafone Live, you have to be connected via the "Contract WAP" connection. Vodafone Live wont let you in if you're connected with the "Contract Internet" connection, I have no idea whether "3" do something similar though?

Hey
Great - THX. I will subscribe to 3tv next week and see if this fine piece make it all the way. Will be back with experience as this could be quite a solution for all 3 Mobile users...
Interesting sub69...I was wondering myself if this is possible. Do you know how people could identify their PDA's as other phone models so as to try and by-pass operator service restrictions? I'm hoping to identify my Kaiser as either a Sony Ericsson K790 or LG TU720 Shine.

First you have to find the user agent string for the device you want your Kaiser to be identified as (I have an N95, so I used it to go to www.useragentstring.com).
Then you need to hex edit your Kaiser's "browser.dll" file (which you'll find in the \Windows folder). You need to search within "browser.dll" for the Kaiser's original user agent string, and then overwrite it with the one of your choice.
Edit the regirsty at: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Internet Explorer\User Agent] so that that shows the new string too.
Save the new "browser.dll" file to \Windows (overwriting the old one) and soft reset. Then when you go to www.useragentstring.com, you should see that your Kaiser is identifying itself as something else.
If you want to go back to normal, you can delete the new "browser.dll" from \Windows, and the original one will handily reappear, as it's stored in the ROM.

Thanks sub69! I'll give it a shot...I'm trying to gain access to some of my carrier's services that they don't off to WM devices.
Hello all,
I installed the CAB on my Kaiser and it works great. Thanks for this post. I have T-Mobile Mobile TV in the Netherlands.
I first called the helpdesk and they told me my phone is not compatible with the service.........
This is the links to the T-Mobile Mobile TV Website:
http://t-mobile.nob.nl
[Edit]
I tested to open the link directly without the CAB installed and with the default User Agent String and it works fine.
Hi,
Is it possible for some one to make a cab file that would identify my Kaiser WM6.1 as the 3 Skypephone or INQ handset?
Thanks
There is a Wiki here, maybe somebody update it if applicable.
An updated list of mobile User-Agents
great cab file. it actually wotks with coreplayer.

3 (UK) MSN/Live Messenger on Kaiser

I am trying to run a 3 (UK) MSN/Live Messenger on my official O2 WM6.1 Kaiser. (The reason for trying is that with 3 (UK) the operator, your MSN messages doesn't count towards your data traffic; also I would like to experiment its battery drain compare to other MSN clients).
If I just log in Planet 3 (UK) (the 3 portal site), it wouldn't let me download its Live messenger client as my phone is not a compatible one. I changed my user agent string to SEW910i and downloaded the .jad file for W910i. I then removed the certificate portions (the last 2 lines) in the .jad file so that it can install on my Kaiser. It works but sometime the display is not quite way, but more importantly, only vibrate alert is possible but setting to Loud or Soft alert would still result in vibration only. I then modified the .jad file again so that instead of referencing the mp3 files from the 3UK website, it point to the local version (which I downloaded and place in the same directory as the .jad and .jar files) as:
AlertToneContact: online.mp3
AlertToneMsg: newmsg.mp3
However, it still doesn't work :-(
Is there anything I have missed?
May be I should have used the N95's version? Has anyone tried that before? Are they different? And what would be the best version?
Thanks!
SMS push on 3 Live Messenger
Also, one of the feature of the 3 (UK) MSN messenger which I Have tried on my other symbian phone is that even if the client is closed (not minimized), it can still be re-activated/re-launched automatically when new MSN messenges arrive (by listening to special SMS messages form the operator (3 UK)), if one didn't choose to sign out form the MSN server.
I notice in the .jad file there is such a line:
MIDlet-Push-1: sms://:3716, ui.Main, *
Is this a Symbian's Java virtual machine feature? Or is it a general java virtual machine feature?

I then modified the .jad file again so that instead of referencing the mp3 files from the 3UK website, it point to the local version (which I downloaded and place in the same directory as the .jad and .jar files) as:
AlertToneContact: online.mp3
AlertToneMsg: newmsg.mp3
However, it still doesn't work :-(
Is there anything I have missed?
May be I should have used the N95's version? Has anyone tried that before? Are they different? And what would be the best version?
Thanks!

can i have the oridginal file you had?
Any progress on this?
Im trying to get it to work in Australia, but the 3 MSN java app is running but i cant see it at all.
I've tried the same app and found it very flaky
I have another slight problem, can I ask you to check - I can only login to MSN on 3 if I have a 3g connection.
Where we live the 3g connection is flaky and it refuses to login to MSN on GPRS :-(
Skype wise it works fine (they offer free skype-skype too) don't use their java client, look on this site for instructions how to configure the PPC / Wmobile iSkoot Client :0 tested and it's not used any data allowance.
Thanks,
I already have skoot running using my skype call allowance.
My Kaiser already has Live Messenger, but not the unlimited one.
Was trying to get it running as a pet project.
I have just switched to Three UK PAYG and have been searching around a bit. I am running a WM6.1 ROM on a Hermes.
So far I have managed to:
1) Use HTC Connection Wizard (downloaded via CRC's Device Update) to set up the internet and MMS settings.
2) Run the 'Identify as N95 (WM6.1).cab' (thanks to sub69 in this thread. 6.0 and 6.5 versions can also be found there.)
This allows me to access the My3 pages at http://mobile.three.co.uk/hb/HutchKey
3) Install the 3 Live Messenger Java client. I am using the version 4.5, not the latest V5. Credits for modifying this go to therafiman at MoDaCo.
This is working with Esmertec Jbed, and is working for free as it is meant to.
'Windows_Live Messenger.zip' contains the .jad and .jar files, and only seems to work if both are copied to the phone and the .jad file is run.
The Java client is far inferior to the normal Windows Mobile Live client, but the normal client is not free to run. Additionally I have been unable to log on using the normal client over 3g. If I log on while connected to activesync or wifi then I can switch to 3g and keep it running, but this will be charging you.
I haven't looked at skype yet, because no one I regularly call uses it. However I have found these instructions which look promising despite the dodgy numbering system:
1) First you need to download the Iskoot version of Skype from www.iskoot.com. You'll need to enter your name & mobile number and select your phone type.
2) Once downloaded, install ISkoot on your windows mobile
3) Start up Iskoot but don't log in yet.
4) Exit Iskoot
3) Use a registry editor to change the following keys under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\ISKOOT\SKYPE\DEVICE to "http://mobile.three.co.uk/948"
BackupHost
CallUrl
DefaultSkHost
Pushhost (only if it exists)
4) Exit the registry editor and start Iskoot again. This time log in (mine logged in immediately - some people say their first log-in takes a few minutes).
5) That's it!. You can verify if things have worked by examining registry key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\ISKOOT\SKYPE\DEVICE\Cal lNumber. If ok, this should have been updated to either "123" on your first log-in, then to a number beginning +44783833...
Once you've made a few skype calls you should see that your credit / call-time balance / data allowance does NOT decrease.

If anyone has any luck getting the V5 Java Live Messenger client running on windows mobile then please post, or even better would be configuring the normal live client to use 3's free service.
EDIT
I'm attaching the WLM V5 .jad and .jar files.
These are unmodified, and downloaded using the N95 user agent in the previous post. Maybe someone knows what they are doing to modify the .jad and get it working.

if so: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=538306
My post has an Alpha/Beta that needs testing for Android.
upon request it was re-instated, there is an official version out there but i didnt get it to work properly, so i grabbed the original Iskoot for Android (non 3 version) and modified it slightly to incorporate the 3 uk settings
JavaAuthorizer
An excellent application if you don’t want to keep saying “Yes, allow NET access”

I got mine from the marketplace, you might try this...
http://www.iskoot.com/register.php?device=NoDevice
--M
ANy Screen shoot will be appreciated
iSkoot is a JAVA based Software or Native Android Application
Make sure you really need iskoot. It uses plan minutes by redirecting through a local phone number (ie, it uses your minute bucket). It's not the VOIP app that people think it is. It's a decent workaround for people with lots of minutes who use skype contacts regularly, though.
The local number thing may be why it wasn't included in the non-US marketplace, as it might not be configured for the UK yet. Stringing together hearsay from other forums, so I may be wrong.
I personally want iSkoot to be able to chat to my Skype contacts rather than call them.
So can anyone provide .apk for it? As it seems there's no way to get it for UK users.
Impossible to find
I tryied over the internet and even in my Android Market I cannot find iSkoot. Can someone please upload the native app for android?
An FYI, but I'm a UK T-Mobile customer currently in the US on an extended vacation.
I bought an unlocked US G1 on Ebay and put my UK T-Mobile SIM in it. Everything worked fine, except I too could not see iSkoot in the marketplace. I'm not data roaming, so I've been accessing the internet over WiFi.
When I got the phone, it came with a US T-Mobile SIM - I put this in the phone and even though the SIM is not connected to a plan, I could then see and download iSkoot from Marketplace over WiFi. In addition, when I replaced the UK SIM in the device and tried to use iSkoot, it worked - it even tried to dial a UK access number which is how I guess iSkoot uses plan minutes.
Therefore, it seems likely that Marketplace can "detect" your region from your SIM card and apply restrictions based on that.
I suggest that getting hold of one of these:
http://www.t-mobile.com/shop/Phones/Detail.aspx?class=prepaid&device=53299206-c069-429a-82fa-000007a2ac12
Might allow non-US users to have less restricted access to the Marketplace over WiFi.
Regards,
Dave

Looks like it's free software, that requires registration to work, so i don't see the harm in uploading the files. If someone knows of it being against the wishes of the software developer then just PM me. Thanks for checking.

Try to push several time space on your keyboard during the signing.
Anyone can help me to change inside the apk file the defaultSkypeHost=http://gw1.iskoot.com into defaultSkypeHost=http://skype.tre.it/p-iskoot ?
In this way i can use the Xseries minutes included in my H3g plan....
Thx for any help.
I'm looking to do the same when I get the time.
I think I found the line you're looking for in the res\raw\startup.properties file of the apk
You can view or extract the apk file using winrar or z-zip.
I used Microsoft office to view the file so I guess you could edit it.
You might have to resign the apk if you're successful with the editing it so check out the following thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=503007
Let me know how it goes?
Update:
Haven't yet tested to see if iskoot is using my 6000 free skype mins or not but my mod and install seemed to work. Give it a go and let me know if it works for you.
Steps:
Download the iskoot.apk from xda-dev
use winrar or 7-zip to extract the contents
use microsoft office word to edit the res\raw\startup.properties file of the apk
to replace the existing strings from
defaultSkypeHost=http://gw1.iskoot.com
backupHost=isk-bos-app2.iskoot.com
baseUrl=isk-bos-app2.iskoot.com
to the relevant ones, which can be found here
http://pastebin.com/f483b9120
for uk I amended them to
defaultSkypeHost=http://mobile.three.co.uk/948
backupHost=http://mobile.three.co.uk/948
baseUrl=http://mobile.three.co.uk/948
save as the original filetype if asked/prompted
Open the orginal iskoot.apk (not the extracted one) and delete the original startup.properties file then drop the modified one into its place
Delete the META-INF folder from the iskoot.apk before closing and saving
Download the autosign app from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=503007 and extract it
place your customised iskoot.apk into the auto-sign folder and run the .bat file. If you run into problems it might be because you have to change your windows folder options and untick "hide extensions for known filetypes" in the view tab (in windows xp). Then you can rename the file from .zip to .apk and the signing process should work.
Transfer the file to your Magic or G1 and install (I used astro filemanager and made sure I allowed the install non-market applications option)
I entered my skype settings into the phone and rebooted for good measure. Note it doesn't work over wifi so make sure that's off.
Test call worked a treat and a look at the call log showed an outgoing local number was used.
Just need to check my monthly bill now!?
I tried to change res\raw\startup.properties file of the apk but when i make a call trough iskoot i see that the number called is not the Xseries number but the generical iskoot local number for my nation.
I don't know if this happen because I first installed a normal iskott version then I uninstalled it and reinstalled the modified version.
Any other feedback?
Thx in advance.
Nice
I was one of few beta testers of this kind of app (made by Skype genuinely) for S40 phones (I had SE K750i) and it is very useful if you do not have an endless data plan want to get a hold on someone outside your country. Even if he/she is not in skype and is using an ordinary cellphone it still comes cheaper I think (the local call fee+skypeout credit)

I can confirm that doing this hack in the UK, does not make iskoot use the x-series number. I have been charged for my skype-to-skype calls.
Upon further investigation I have determined that it is dialing the wrong number. The number dialed was 442070431521, whereas the number that should be dialed is 447838333878. I cannot, however, find a way to make iskoot dial the desired number. Any thoughts?
don't have a dream but on my italian diamond i just changed the registry
CallNumber= ...........
with the number it's ment to call...so in my case +393933934446
Hi,
I'm wondering if I have the right number. You wouldn't happen to know where to look for these numbers, would you?

[ABANDONED] [REF]Three Uk Iskoot Regmod CAB v0.2 & Full Installer v1.0

PLEASE NOTE, THIS THREAD HAS BEEN TEMPORARILY ABANDONED :-(
due to Iskoot stopping their "Iskoot for Skype" and the Three network starting to use a new client
the versions in this post DO NOT WORK, this thread will remain abandoned till i can find someone with a working Windows
Mobile version of the Skype for 3.
See you round the forums ;-)
ORIGINAL THREAD:
Hi,
Originally i created a small regmod cab which automatically puts the 3 UK Iskoot settings in so you dont have to bother, Now I have created a full installer cab which will install both Iskoot and the Regmod together.
This means no more faffing about installing the Iskoot and the Regmod, its all done for you in one nice CAB!
This little installer saves me a bit of time as I tend to update my ROM quite a lot, so it saves the need for installing a regedit program and manually entering/copying the values into the registry.
Additional:
I do tend to use the Iskoot app quite a lot, infact its the main form of communication between me and my wife, so if you have any issues just post and i'll do my best to replicate the problem and solve it.
Full installer instructions
__________
1. make sure you have .NET CF 2 or higher installed, and the Time is correct.
2. Install the Iskoot for 3 installer CAB (Link at bottom of post "iSkootfor3UK-DANH2009.zip")
3. Sign in
4. Use Iskoot
Regmod Installation:
__________
1. install all prerequisites -> Iskoot, .NET CF 2 (or higher)
2. Run iskoot and accept all the T&C's
3. Exit ISkoot
4. Run Cab file, use all defaults upon installation.
5. Run Iskoot and log on
Android Install
_____________
Note: reposted my APK due to request =)
Warning... it is extreme beta, and I have stopped working on this for the moment.
APK is available at bottom of this post as an attachment.
also i didnt realise that the original 3 Iskoot APK was already available on here.
Link can be found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4959862&postcount=1
Technical Gore (regmod):
_____________
This CAB file makes the following modifications to the registry:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\iSkoot\Skype\Device]
"BaseUrl"="https://skype340.three.co.uk"
"UpdateFrequency"="1200"
"PushHost"="http://skype340.three.co.uk:8880"
"SkypeOutEnabled"="1"
"DefaultSkHost"="http://mobile.three.co.uk/948"
"CallUrl"="http://mobile.three.co.uk/948"
"BackupHost"="http://mobile.three.co.uk/948"
"WLanPassword"="wifidemo2"
"WLanUserName"="wifidemo2"
"WlanServer"="dev10.iskoot.com"
"VersionRestrict"="N"
"IsPushEnabled"="N"
"ChatMsgHistorySize"="8"
"ChatMsgOldHour"="2"
"SoundFile"="\\Windows\\online.wav"
"Language"="EN"
"DriverName"="PocketPC"
"MaxChatSize"="10"
"MaxChatSession"="10"
"PropertyFilePath"="\\IskootIni.txt"
"ClientVersion"="1.1.54"
You may notice that a few entries are missing, most are unneeded at the point of install and connection, the needed ones will automatically be picked up upon connection to ISkoot.
Bugs Regmod:
_____
on installer it asks for a path (device/card), i thought id disabled the choice but its still there.
upon installation the installer reports that the cab file wasnt made for the phone, im looking into how to get rid of this.
Bugs for Full installer:
teeny tiny issue - no alert sound is set for incoming messages.
to fix go to sounds & notifications -> notifications and give ISkoot something to play!
I'll correct this asap.
Revision information Regmod:
_________________
V0.1
Installation of Regmod stopped skype functioning due to the "firsttime" entry being filled.
v0.2
working, and tested quite a lot.
ommited callnumber as this is picked up from network.
Revision information Full Installer:
v1.0 (possible final if all is well and no bugs are found)
Added various registry links, got installer to copy regmod into my docs incase you need it again.
managed to overcome bug which iskoot crashed on the full installer when receiving calls.
Troubleshooting:
______________
Unable to connect issues:
1. Time/Date incorrect
1A. Correct your time (start -> Settings -> Clocks and Alarms)
2. .Net compact Framework not installed
2A. Install .NET Compact Framework (google search .net CF and you should find the installer)
Reliability mod:
____________
I have found that if you set the data connection to "always on" it seems to make messaging more reliable.
You can do this by getting Kaisertweak and enabling "Always on: 3 internet"
If there are any other issues just post.
If you like my work and want to buy me a whiskey Click Here

Thanks for this, I too flash regularly and left iskoot on the shelf because of it
Only annoyance I find is that where I live 3g signal is poor and it doesn't seem to connect over GPRS (Windows Live Mobile has the same problem - the java free on 3 version & official .cab windows live mobile one!)
I guess they block some traffic over gprs
Anyway - this is a keeper thanks

I have installed as described but during login iskoot shows a message "CURRENTLY UNABLE TO CONNECT". It was running ok before i hard reset. Btw I have .net CF 3.7 pre Installed with my modified rom. Please help........
EDIT: i removed i skoot, reinstalled .net cf 3.7 as i cant install 3.5. reinstalled iskoot and ur cab. but no luck
a few checks first:
Did you run Iskoot and accept all the terms and conditions before installing the cab?
also, are you using iskoot in the UK?
I have no problem with the installer, I just used it last night and it worked fine.
may be worth while using the Netcfg app to force iskoot to use net CF 2.0 as Ive never properly tested with 3.7, it seemed to work last time I used a cooked rom with 3.7.

LOL, that old chestnut... I didnt even consider the time and date!!
it seems ISKOOT implants the time/date into the registry on first run, and I think it pulls it from the server, so if your time/date didnt closely match the server's it would throw a paddy.
this was one of the issues I was up against when I created the CAB, if I set the "firstrun" entry to a date it would only work for a day or so then it wouldnt connect or send messages properly.
when setting a date in there it meant I could run the cab file without prior opening of ISKOOT (Thus getting rid of step 2) but I hit the above issues!
Maybe I should update my first post to:
1. check time and date are correct!
Well done on sorting it.
hi
ihave instaled iskoot and when i went on my programe i could not find the program any help pleaseeeeeeeee
iSkoot
iSkoot works fine for me,
Install iSkoot, launch once, no need to login, exit (make sure it's not running in the background) then use the regmod to apply Three UK settings
Files I used attached
Using PAYG UK 3 Sim w/ Kaiser and iSkoot
Thanks Danh2009 for your great cab, it was very useful and extremely easy to install!
After some initial head scratching, the advice posted on changing the first run date also did the trick to get me logged in without any 'unable to connect' errors.
The only issue I'm finding is when I attempt to skypeout to a UK number I get the notification 'Call Failure - You can only make calls to numbers abroad'. The test skype line and presumably non UK number are fine.
Has anyone else experienced this issue?
My thoughts are that it is perhaps related to the automatically assigned +447838... 'callnumber' as this is the only thing that might be variable between difference users who have also used this registery mod cab. Perhaps someone who is able to make skypeout uk calls could let me know their 'callnumber' (mine is +44783838333870) but other posts have suggested other numbers differing on the last digit.
Unfortunately all UK numbers are blocked by 3, they would be at a loss if everyone topped up their skype to make phonecalls and not their mobile!
there is no workaround that I know of.
If there was a workaround you wouldn't be calling the free 3 iskoot callnumber and therefore would get charged.
hope that helps!
Thanks for the clarification Danh2009! The documentation on the 3 website was ambiguous or absent and my brain had filled in the blanks with colourful brainfluff.
So I guess (not knocking it, still great!) this limits me to making up to 4000 mins of calls per month using iskoot to skype contacts only (skype to skype as advertised).
If I want to use skypeout or skype in then I download the 'official' skype WM program, which will then let me use these facilities, but this will use up any data allowance I have.
Help on explaining how to update the time and date, after installing iskoot, please??

Is your phone set to the current date and time?
if it is you shouldnt have a problem, the only other thing i can think of is if you havent got .NET Compact Framework 2.0 or higher (i think 3.5 is the standard at the moment).
also:
to change the time go to start-> settings -> clocks and alarms and set the time and timezone there.
Hope that helps
now working!!!
Hey,
thanks for your reply.

The only reason I can think for it to charge you is if you had the Callurl wrong or even the callnumber wrong. But if they were wrong then Iskoot shouldnt work, either that or you have skype installed instead of Iskoot.
my settings are:
Callnumber +447838333880
Callurl http://mobile.three.co.uk/948 (as set by Regmod cab)
Check out post #9 by Damianiw, he has attached the latest Iskoot Cab, it may be worth while reinstalling Iskoot and re-installing my Cab.
Good luck
iskoot working!!!
Hey man...you're a star!

Iskoot on TPC 28002 stock rom issue found?
Just a brief update which im wondering if anyone else is having this issue.
when using Iskoot on TPC's 28002 stocklike and Ultimate rom i think iv found an issue.
when typing a message it tries to predict the next word and starts adding uppercase characters randomly into the message!
a biT liKe thIS!
The issues do not exist when doing a text message or an email.
ive tried:
Changing .net versions via NetCfg (3.5, 2, and default)
reinstalling iskoot, & regmod
flashing radio, and rom (hence stocklike and ultimate comment above)
checked regional settings
anyone else think of anything?
EDIT: Seems to be an issue with TPC's ROM as he has confirmed there are issues with bad files.
Apologies if this is classed as a *Bump*
BUT:
New version is up, full installer.
Read the first post for more information.
