MDA compact 4 and HTC home plugin - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV General

Hallo to everyone,
I have got my MDAc4 yesterday. it look nice but i think that my MDA vario with 195mhz is 3x faster than this one with 528mhz. I didn't thougt that TF would slower the phone this much.
Anyways.
I thought maybe i can change the ugly white/pink T-mobile background with the HTC black.
I tried to install and use te HTC home plugin. i can install the program without any problems but after restart, phone hangs on network login screen and the only way to get it back at work is Hard reset.
is there any way to chang things here?
my secend question is:
what is main difference between Compact 4 and touch? exapt the buttons and software look.
thanks

all your questions can be answered by a little searching.
just search in this thread for "mda debranding"

If you want to keep the pink menu just use some tweaks, play with cache etc., it was much more responsive, however yesterday I flashed the Asian WWE ROM and it's great, it just makes the phone usable. Plus you still can go back to the standard ROM as it's been dumped and there's a possibility of installing the original SPL as well.

i've got it. changing from pink to blak.
thanks guys

You can go to here and there are diamond tweaks and you can change the bits you want
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Diamond
i like to thank to those people who worked so hard on this

do not bother with tweaking the ROM, the t-mobile stock rom is stupidly slow and if i was you i would flash a new rom right away. I also noticed the stupidly slow speed problems that occurred with the stock rom installed and everything was fixed when i installed a 1.93 rom

T-Mobile UK

Been following this site for weeks and it is getting more popular eacha nd every time someone buys a Diamond phone, so keep up the good work.
I have finally decided to see what I can do with mine by upgrading the ROM and I would appriciate any advice you guys can give me as i am a totally newbie.
Here are the details:
It is on T-Mobile (UK)
Version -
1.37.110.3 WWE
06/20/08
1.00.25.03
Thanks
Hello there!
Not sure what you mean by upgrading the rom? Guess you mean applying a cooked rom?
A cooked rom is one thats been customised and is flashed over the top of your current rom, in your case probably a "stock" or out of the box/factory rom.
First thing to do in your case would be to upgrade the Radio. You may well need to run the HardSPL (I needed developer edition) and then apply the radio upgrade.
From then on, its up to you which cooked rom you run as they all have advantages and disadvantages. For example, im running the Diamond TLR rom as I don't like touchflo (i think its a gimmick that slows things down - drasticaly). Using this rom i'm able to uninstall touchflo and free up significant memory. This suits me down to the ground but not those who want to use touchflo!
Take a look at the wiki (mostly) and the Rom development sub-section of this Diamond section of the forums. As long as you follow the Wiki instructions on HardSPL and then use a rom specifically for a touch diamond, you should be fine.
Be very carefull though and DOUBLE check everything, one wrong flash program and you can destroy your phone.
Have fun!
p.s. Many people think that the factory 1.37.xx roms are the most stable, even more than the later versions. I'm running a TLR based 1.37something and I am very happy with it and never have to reboot my phone.
Got it....Its all here
Hi Lats... I've tried a variety of roms on my Compact IV and I have to say, me and my colleagues at work find that Swiftblades roms are pretty much as good as they come. He's now released version 5.0 and if you're still on the original T-mobile rom, then you'll notice one hell of a difference and improvement in speed and usability.
Go for it and don't worry if your concerned about warranty, there is a stock T-mobile rom floating around on the forum and instructions on how to return your Compact IV back to it's original state.
If you find the whole rom thing confusing, then take a look at this site:- www.modmydiamond.info It'll pretty much tell you everything.
Basically though, you'll find there are 3 phases to upgrading
1) HardSPL - In laymans terms, this pretty much opens the phone up for flashing roms. Most people seem to go for and recommend using Hard-SPL 1.40 Olinex Developers Edition-Unsigned. There are consequences to using an unsigned version, it means you could in theory download and install a dodgy untested Rom, but it's up to you to go for roms on the thread from reputable guys where you can see lots of other people have installed their tried and tested roms.
Once you've done this, you'll not need to do this again.
2) The Radio - This deals with the comms side of the phone, ie phone signal strength etc etc. It's pretty much been agreed by most people that v1.00.25.05 appears to be the best of the bunch.
3) Lastly choose a rom, there are half a dozen really good roms out there and many of them are down to personal choice. Many of them are customised too much for my liking. I chose Swifts as he pretty much keeps his clean and looking like a stock rom.
You'll only have to do the Hard-SPL once and probably the radio once, unless a better radio arrives. So once you've done all this, you can keep trying different roms without the need to do the Hard-SPL and radio all over again.
Hope this clarifies things a bit for you.
Good luck and have fun!
Thanks ever so much guys. I already feel alot more confident about this. Just one question... guide suggests the following:-
Manually enter the Bootloader by pressing the Power button, Camera button and performing a soft reset at the same time
Where is the camera button and it sounds as I need 3 hands to do this!
They're refering to the main round button below your screen in the middle of the 4 buttons, and yes you need 3 hands, but you can just about do it with 2
Let us know which ROM you upgrade to - I'm on the same ROM and radio as you are. Bit nervous about flashing the rom as my last phone (Vario II/Hermes) had to go back a month after I had it due to the screen alignment issues. After the warranty expired, I was flashing daily (lol) and yes, they do make a big difference.
I've got a copy of the UK Tmobile rom from this site, but cant remember the page now or what i typed in to get it... will try again later. It's called "RUU_Victor_TMO_UK_1.37.110.3_Radio_Signed_Diamond_52.26a.25.09_1.00.25.03_Ship"

That is for last resort methods only...
Ensure you are connnected via activesync when doing any flashing, remembering to hard reset again after every flash,
Yeah, most definetly I will let you know but I think it will be over the weekend now. I had a quick attempt to get bootloader going, but it don't look easy. Phone just resets everytime and just reboots back to normal.
If anyone has any tips on which buttons I need to press first or if there is any easier way of doing this, I'm listening.

If you want to flash any ROM - you dont need to manually enter boot loader to do so...
As I mentioned before.
just make sure you have active-sync running and working and the battery id over %50 charged.
I'll be doing this tonight

Problem losing the top line of my display

Okay, I've searched and can't find this problem but hopefully somebody may have some ideas.
Quite frequently, I lose the top line of my display (the one with the start button and the system status icons). Everything else works but that line just disappears.
If I then lock the device it comes back. When I unlock it, it sometimes stays but sometimes disappears again once it's unlocked and I then have to turn my phone off and back on again.
I have a standard Orange UK phone, standard ROM and I've used some of the performance tweaks listed here. I've also disabled Touchflo and am using spb diary as my home page.
Anybody any ideas because this is driving me mad?
I had the same, but only when TF3D was deactivated. Since I use it again, it doesn't happen anymore...
It happens on my Orange diamond as well - stock 1.37 rom with TF3D enabled.
It seems to happen once every 4-5 days, and doesn't really have a pattern. Sometimes it's switching between Today and Second Today, sometimes it's rotating, sometimes it's unlocking etc..
flash a new ROM
Hello there.
Well i just recommend you to flash a new cooked ROM. I havent seen this behavior with a cooked ROM.
Best regards.
Well, at least it isn't just me but does anybody have any idea what causes the problem and how it can be solved.
Could it be something to do with glyph memory?
I used to see this sometimes on the orange rom. Since flashing a cooked rom makes the device twice as fast - and removes that problem - I would just flash it.

I know it's the wrong forum to say this but I'm just a bit scared to flash it because I've never done it before.
I'm worried about either a) bricking it or b) losing some setting that Orange put in to connect to their network (voice, data, voice mail etc).
Hi
I've had a similar Problem!
It seems to happen when I take the phone out of sleep cos I've got a text and its locked (I've set it for 30min).
I press the power button but the screen only half lights and the top line doesn't display. It sometimes says 'password' in the top left but does nothing if I press it.
I can slide along the bottom line but it doesn't work properly.
Interestingly I also have a Orange Diamond 1.37 ROM (which I've unlocked).
I'm gonna flash with HTC's ROM from there site and I'll let everyone know if the problem persists.
Wish me luck

And what happened?
Hi
Sorry for the delay. I tried the HTC site ROM but it just gave me a message saying 'Sorry, this software download is not suitable for your device'.
So it looks like i'm stuck cos its still doing it about once a day just have to switch of and on again.

Okay. I still have the problem and am very, very tempted to try flashing a new ROM (and Radio). But I just can't quite work up the courage to do it since I've never done it before and it's the fear of the unknown.

This happens to me too. I have a T-Mobile Compact IV.
I've found that using FreeUP RAM (part of SKTools) not only releases memory, but also fixes this problem (until the next time it happens, which admittedly is not often).
Just wanted to say that I've upgraded my Orange ROM to the new 1.93 and I haven't had this problem....yet.
2 days without problems so I thought it may be safe to post.
IVe also had this on 1.37.x.x on my mda cmpct IV. Like everyone on here Im considering flashing but Im waiting for t-mobile to release an update (they keep telling me the will, presummably the 1.93.x.x) so that if I then brick the puppy - I can blame it on there rom upgrade.
I want this phone to be better, I know it can be with a ROM change...but I dont want to brick it and for once in my life will have some patience to wait.

** HELP!! ** My Diamond is inoperable!

Hello,
I know you're all very knowledgeable, so I need your help!
I turned off my diamond last night when the battery was running out and since I put it back on charge whatever I do I can't get into it.
Edit: It's actually the T-Mobile version MDA Compact IV but with Manila TF3D and skin.
It starts up, says windows mobile etc. then it gets to the phone lock screen (which is always a bit laggy) but I can only manage a few digits before it locks up and completely freezes, then I have to do a soft reset or remove the battery to even turn it off.
I've tried everything, even typing the password as fast as I can, but I entered the wrong password too many times and now it's asking me enter a series of letters and numbers before I try again (which would be ok if it didn't lock up by then).
What can I do!?

Panic over - read some posts and figured out how to do a hard reset - all sorted now, thanks anyway!
That'll teach me for setting registry cache tweaks to maximum!
glad all is well
now theres...tweaking and there is tweaking
Yeah.. I think I'll stick to the tweaking for now and avoid the tweaking..

I had a similar thing and had to remove the SIM and refit....I got mine replaced and have since flashed SwiftBLs rom on the replacement to get rid of all the horrible t-mobile, slow and buggy 1.37.x.x rom......even though they claim everyone is happy with the device.
Ahh .. right - may have to try that SwiftBL ROM then, haven't tried flashing a new ROM yet, will have to read all the instructions etc.
Apart from the pinkness, the original one doesn't bother me too much, I find it pretty fast - especially compared to when I installed the Manila TF3D - it was really slow after that!
** By the way - I've just noticed that since my Hard Reset the weather cannot update it says it cannot connect! What is wrong here? I can get onto the internet but not download the weather!? **

htc home not visible on today screen

hey everyone, i'm kinda new here, been reading stuff for a while but now that i got a tytn 2 (kaiser wm6.1 rom) and started mucking around with installing new programs i think i broke something
the built in wm6.1 rom that my device came with also has htc home v2.1 builtin
i manually installed htc home customizer 1.0, also tried uninstall/reinstall/reset
not sure what caused it, but now the htc home today screen section is completely blank. it takes up space but shows nothing. resetting themes, settings, soft reset, etc did not work.
i tried twice to download and install htc home 2.1 from an online download. installed on device and also on sd card, but each time i did it the device would go into an endless rebooting loop. it would reset, load up to the today screen, reset, etc etc.
so as far as uninstalling the rom htc home version, i dont think i can do it. plus the rom version seems to have a higher build number then the 2.1 version i see floating around the net.
fyi, i did have htc home and htc customizer working at some point. i used the default htcc themes. but at some point, after a software reset, poof it no longer shows
any suggestions on how to fix this?
HTC Home on WM6.1
My problem is not exactly the same as yours, but I think we're dealing with the same stuff in software and ROM.
My Tilt came from AT&T with only WM6. I had to upgrade it myself to 6.1. When I did, HTC Home came built-in, just like for you. I also downloaded HTC home customizer and installed it...at that point, everything worked fine. The problems started when I was trying to get the music tab to show up on HTC Home. So anyways, even though I already had the built-in Home, I tried to install it again from the cab file HTC Home 2.1. The installation finished, and it told me it had to restart. It did, but then went broke...like yours, my Tilt went into endless rebooting cycles.
However, I have a REALLY serious problem. Mine still won't turn on correctly. So can you tell me how to get rid of HTC Home 2.1, or whatever I need to do, so that my device will run properly again?
I think the solution for you may be to reinstall windows mobile 6.1 from a file online. (You could probably use the same one I did, except I just have to find it again...)
But at this point, I can't even do that, because my phone doesn't even get to the today screen where I can click on stuff. Activesync doesn't work either. HELP?
hard reset
i had to do a hard reset to fix the issue with the rebooting cycle.
right now i'm working on using the manila 2d today screen interface. it looks nice, works good but makes it impossible to add other plugins to the today screen.
i was using the mToday tool to switch between manila and htc home today screens but since htc home is now being a ***** i'm gonna see what i can do with manila to make it better for me.
also using pointui, flash touch flo cube and freestyl.
but if anyone has a quick fix for this htc home issue please post me somethin. i know there are better today screens out there, but simplisity is nice sometimes.

Kaiser bloatware

Hi, I'm just turning on my 8925 for the first time and before setting it up I want to remove all the trial stuff. I set up, soft reset when the "3 seconds customization" comes up, but when the device turns back on, it takes me back to set up again (screen align, password, etc.) I've done this before with another Kaiser and I know it works, but this one keeps recycling the whole process. I've gone through the clear storage, set up, soft reset several times already and it's the same each and every time. What am I doing wrong?
I would keep resetting and if it still continues trying to install the bloatware, dump the rom and go with some of the other great ones. L26 Kaiser Diamond Rom V12 has been good for me lately, Schaps has some good ones ot there too. Those roms will better utalize the hardware on your kaiser. Hope this helps...
I'm so fed up with this. I going to stop now since I think too many resets will screw with the device. I'm starting to wonder if this is the same as the last Kaiser I had. For once there's a new green "window mobile 6.1" screen right after the AT&T logo at start up, which my other tilt didnt have. The screen says to wait while it's clearing storage everytime I do a hard reset, then take me to set up again, then back to the 3 seconds of bloated wares. Rinse and repeate. Another difference is that this one came with HTC Home today home screen the one with the big digital clock and tabs.
Could it be this is a used phone and the previous user loaded it with a different ROM?
You need to soft reset BEFORE the 3 second notice comes up...if the box pops up, you're too late and need to wait to get to the today screen once again. Remember...BEFORE...either way, there are many really nice ROMs out there...
Ah hah! Voila, you are THE man! Thank you thank you! <3
Still strange that this one came preloaded with HTC Home plug-in, though. But Im happy either way
My sister got a Tilt today and had the same issue (I tried to guide her over the phone to ditch the bloatware - she won't be flashing ROMs anytime soon...)
Hers contains the HTC Home plugin as well.
They've apparently updated the shipping ROM...
Glad to hear that it works fine before the 3 second box.
You'll be able to remap the PTT button right out of the box also. Good stuff.
Im just hoping this one doesnt have battery problem like the one I got before. I kept it as long as I could, even got an extra power battery for it (since the stock one drained after maybe 6 hours), until the damn thing heat up so bad while being charged that it almost burn my hand...
Been charging this one for a few hours and no heat problem yet!
/fingers crossed
You should really try a Manilla ROM--they are easy on the eyes, very nice interface...look up NATF or the AthineOS Manilla ROM. Both guys did a fantastic job on those...
NATF http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=424725
Athine OS http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=435345
But, make sure to read the WIKI

Search around, more than likely, that question on your mind may have already been answered.
There's no such thing as a stupid question, but they are the easiest to answer...
