Copy PIM data to Diamond - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV General

Hi, I have the HTC Hermes (TyTN) with WM6 and i want buy the new Diamond.
If I save my PIM Backup from TyTN and copy the backup file to Diamond I restore all my Contacts, Appointments, ecc???
Bye

No one help me????

I wouldn't recommend it. especially if your tytn s running 6 and not 6.1. There could be differences in the PIM database that will cause you to lose stuff.
Just use activesync for the main stuff. And if you really do need to keep your SMS messages (which is the most common reason i hear for not using activesync), then have a look round here cos i'm sure there are SMS backup tools around here somewhere!
Personally, i never use the PIM backup method, i've had it fail far too many times to trust it.

try pimbackup?

i've used it all this while with no issues on my trinity, tried on my wife's diamond as well

Thanks i use it on my new diamond.

how to restore sms/contacts only

dear users!
My wife needs to hard reset her mobile, well ill do it for her obviously.
But we are worried about loosing sms messages and contacts.
On my Kaiser, I have used PIM Backup which splendidly backs up my sms and contacts (does not retain/restore pictures from mms )
Any way, PIM Backup does not work on 6.1 and she has not synced to a laptop, so no option of restoring from outlook, also useless coz she cant sync/send sms to outlook.
Any suggestions? I took a look at her sprite backup and it allows you to select what you want to restore, like My Documents and so on.
So any help please?
Thanks
PIM Backup does work on WM6.1. I use it all the time on my Diamond.
ohh , maybe the version I used ( I think 2.6) didnt work.
Ill give it a shot again.
Yes use PIMBackup version 2.8, worked very well..
Yes it worked!
Thanks

A bit of confusion about Sprite Backup...

I purchased the full version of Sprite Backup (figured it'd be well worth it) so that I could backup my 6800 and transfer some of its data to my 6850. More specifically, I was hoping to pull the contacts, call history, and text messages over to the new phone.
The contacts came over with no fuss -- actually, they came over through ActiveSync, so there was no problem there at all. However, when I tried to restore PIM data using the 6800 backup, the phone tells me that "Sprite Backup Requires Authorization To Run". As you can imagine, this is a bit weird. I tried using "Personal Data Only" as well as "Merge Level 2" and came up with the same result both times.
I've only had the phone for about 6 hours and haven't started combing through the threads here to make necessary edits, so there's nothing I'd care about losing. How do I pull the text messages and call history from my old phone?
Thanks in advance for any and all help, and sorry if I posted this in the wrong section.
Edit: I'm using Version 6.5.2.102
Sqube,
Even Sprite shows it needs code but you can still use it as in evaluation period for 10 days, so you can go ahead with the software and restore the utility. But i suggest using PIM backup for contacts, task, and messages as that works better than Sprite backup.
Unfortunately, I can't. That's why I'm posting here. I've already purchased the software; it's just not letting me restore the information from my 6800 to my 6850.
If I had known that Sprite Backup was incapable of restoring that information across different phones, I never would have purchased it, especially since I was coming to an all new phone.
Thanks for the help anyway.
It should be capable of doing what your asking. Why haven't you contacted Sprite about this issue?
Quite frankly, I was hoping I could find an answer here because these forums are (a) better; (b) more populated; and (c) don't have random spam in every other thread.
hmmmm
i have had the same problem using sprite to restore from PC.
solved issue by re-installing sprite on PPC before executing the restore from the PC. hopefully this issue has already been solved for you.
cheers.
As far as I know, the problem is you are tryign to back up data from a HTC Mogul to a HTC Touch Pro.... It doesnt; work like that... Settings in diffrent versions of windows on diffrent devices just don't work.... But what SHOULD work for you is that new "Microsoft My Phone"... you can back up lost of those things you wanted up over that, and restore them on a diffrent phone.... Try that and let us know... then when it is setup how oyu want... THEN creatire you backup using sprite backup
thanks teej, i did manage to backup and restore my HD2 to and from the PC. had to tweak a couple of things though.
i did a full backup to PC (everything except storage card - contacts, emails, messages, all calendar data, system data and my documents).
i also did a PIM data backup (contacts, emails, messgages and all calendar data) to my devices storage card (luckily).
so i flashed to new ROM, hard reset a couple more times, then attempted a full restore from my PC. used sprites same device/new ROM restore setting (called 'merge mode 2' i think), and it restored everything except my personal data (so the full PC restore didnt restore contacts, emails, messgages and all calendar data). luckily i had the PIM data backup and was able to restore all PIM data from that.
so with the two backups combined... i had success.
although this wasnt as straight-forward as i feel backups and restores should be... it was MUCH better than the backups i had done with SPB (using SPB i have had corrupted backup files on multiple occasions - i definately recommend using Sprite Backup over SPB, and i havent tried Resco or Microsoft My Phone).
advice to anyone backing up.... create multiple backup files, so if one fails or is corrupted... there is a safety net.
cheers.

Saving text messages

Normally I use sprite backup to backup everything in one go from my Artemis, including SMS, and then restore the backup if I've done a hard reset. But since I will shortly be using the diamond instead of the artemis and cannot use sprite backups on the Diamond (as far as I've been told) is there a way to transfer my SMS from Artemis to Outlook, and then from Outlook to the Diamond?
I've got Outlook set up now and have saved contacts, calendar appointments, files, task and notes, but it doesn't appear to cater for SMS inbox, outbox, etc, only email. I read on this site about an app called Jeyo Mobile Extender, but apparently it can't transfer SMS back to the phone. So is there a way to do it or shall I just forget the old SMS's and start afresh with the Diamond? Mature responses if you please. Thanks.
Wait, I have a really old version, outlook 2003. I need 2007, right? I read that it caters for sms.
Try PPCPimBackup (freeware) or Jeyo Mobile Companion(shareware).

Thanks, I heard about Pim, will give it a try.
I charged the phone last night for the first time, then popped the T-Mobile CD in. I installed the newer version sprite backup software on the CD onto the phone, and then copied my latest sprite backup file created on my artemis with the older version sprite backup that came with the artemis, hoping it might recognise it and do the restore, yet it doesn't recognise it. Is this because my sprite backup file was created in WM5 and the diamond is WM6?
just sign up for microsoft my phone. sync the old phone then just choose to restore to phone when you sync the new phone. FREE

Thanks, looks like a great way to transfer texts, photos and video. But, this is on their site:
"Will Microsoft My Phone work on my mobile phone?
Currently, Microsoft My Phone works only on phones that run the Windows Mobile 6+ operating system."
My artemis is windows mobile 5. Only the diamond is WM6. So I guess it won't work.
I'm now trying Spb backup. Apparently it can transfer a full backup to a new phone even if the new phone has a different rom. I've just installed it on both phones and it's currently backing up my old stuff including what's on the storage card. I hope when I transfer the file to the diamond and try the restore it doesn't say incompatible or doesn't recognise. Fingers crossed. I looked at PIM backup but Spb seems to do more.
Well, it worked with Spb. I have all my text messages right back to 2007 on the new phone

Please don't say I need to re-type everything!

I've been using the AT&T Tilt (HTC 8925) for several years, and have just upgraded to the HTC Fuze. My problem is getting the data from the Tilt to the Fuze.
The main reason that I upgraded is that I couldn't sync the Tilt anymore. For whatever reason, I can charge the Tilt, even using the USB charger, but the computer doesn't "see" the Tilt to sync. I've tried it with multiple computers, and the AT&T people have tried it several times, but no luck. I've also never been able to get it to sync reliably by Bluetooth.
So, anyway, I don't have a current sync on my PC, and I can't make one. I'm trying to figure out a way to get the PIM data to the new device. Can anyone tell me where the file(s) are stored on the Tilt? I thought maybe I could beam or even email the correct data files from the Tilt. Or does anyone have any other ideas?
Thanks for the help.
.. Joann
you tried PIM backup??
The tilt should come with Sprite Backup which can backup contacts, files, etc. Try using that to transfer your files. If you don't have one, borrow a storage card from a friend.
When making the backup, don't back-up your registry, and only backup the files you need. Otherwise, it's probably best to leave everything checked.
Google Sync or MyPhone should work too.
Both would give you a backup of your contact and calendar data in case of disaster. MyPhone will backup your sms, music and photos from your phone too.
Thanks so much!
I decided to use MyPhone, and it worked great!
If you try to copy the PIM from one device/ROM to another (i.e. your Fuze) you'll crash the Fuze, as it seems that every PIM is related to an only device/ROM (I mean, you changing the ROM but not the device, your old PIM will make your device crash)
I think you can export your data using Sashimi, maybe. Maybe using PIMbackup if the data are not related to the device/ROM but I'm not sure. Maybe, exporting them via Bluetooth from the Tilt to the Fuze directly.
Other options, I can't imagine them by now, but i'm not an expert and today I'm tired (it's 22:17 in Catalonia now)

Microsoft Myphone

Hi all
I have just bought a used MDA Vario 3(HTC tytn2?). This is by way of an upgrade from my Vario 2. I would like to keep my text messages and thought I would try Myphone. It will work with WM6 and says it may work with some WM5 devices. Unfortunately I can't get it to work on the Vario 2 so I can't backup messages before moving to the new phone. Does anyone have any suggestions of how to salvage my text messages? Anyway to get Myphone to work on the Vario 2?
Thanks
Q
myphone is convenient...but "pimbackup" is a MUST HAVE that has never failed for most of us and it doesn't require an internet connection either.
just BACKUP your contacts and text messages with pimbackup, save the backup file to your storage card (or pull the backup file off your device with activesync on to your desktop/laptop) and then transfer the file to your new device. run pimbackup on your new device and RESTORE the file...and you're done!
search the forum for more tutorials on using pimbackup, especially if you want to correctly restore to a device that supports threaded messaging.
Brilliant! Thanks very much that is just what i was looking for. All backed up and transferred to new phone.
Thanks again
Quentin
