I'm looking for a new phone, so if someone could answer these questions I would really appreciate it.
1. Is it possible to change the font size of the text on this phone for menus, sms, web browsing, apps etc.. everything in general?
2. Just something I heard not sure if it's true but, does the super AMOLED really use 2x the power for white color backgrounds than for ANY other color? That would be really bad for web browsing which I intend to use quite a lot.
3. How much does the battery last with only web browsing over wifi and music player in the background?
4. Any tips about Galaxy S or things you don't like about it? (whatever comes to your mind really)
thanks
Well , at least i got no problems with the baterry life at all , i can use it all day with music on and playibg games browsing etc... Also the super amoled is simply amazing. Overall i really like the phone at all points , the only disadvantages of it are the lag problem wich can easily be fixed and hopefully by samsung in the nearby future. Also its knowb that the gps is not working well but i didnt try this yet
be more specific.
the GPS works
the problem people are complaining about is that the GPS is not accurate enough for some people

Do you mean 'How long does it last with just some regular web browsing and music playing ?' or do you mean 'How long can I browse the net for before I kill the battery ?'
The first one: the battery will last you just fine to look up a few things here and there and generally be a daily driver.
The second one: A lot less than you think. You will get maybe 3ish hours with the screen lit between charges. The level of brightness and other things on the phone can change this, but seriously, don't be thinking about spending a great deal of time with the screen active unless you have some source of power.
Either way, this is not a problem with the SGS, ALL phones with big screens regardless of os or manufacturer have problems with battery life, at least in the sense that they never last as much as you'd want to.
As for any other tips and tricks:
Check your GPS when you get it out of the box, then apply one of the fixes if need-be. Some people find that out of the box, they either can't get a lock, or there is a lack of accuracy. I got the first problem, but the fix works fine and now I can satnav with the best of them. The accuracy isn't perfect, but good enough. Before I have been shown as driving 10 yards off the road in a field but it corrected within 30 seconds and its not like it became unusable. I have never had a problem with using the navigation. It has ALWAYS got me where I want to be.
Secondly, for gods sake use a lagfix, even if you don't get lag. As you put more apps on and fill the memory up more, you'll eventually get some slow down, so you may as well nip it in the bud.

Totally agree , even though still hoping that samsung will bring us a bugless froyo very soon.
Could someone answer the first question please?
Here I thought of another one... Does the alarm clock work with the phone closed?
Fonts can be changed depending if app supports it. I use lcd density changer. And of cause alarm works but do you mean when phone is totaly powered off? No idea

Not sure how to interpret "phone closed". Screen off, yes it works. Phone in a case, yes it works. Phone off, no it doesnt work. If I've missed what you've meant please clarify.

My bad, I meant with phone OFF.
Well.. that's actually quite sad. Is it possible to make it work with an app or by rooting the phone?
This is work in progress and I will update it for 7 days. Original posting can be found here
I'm sure you have heard someone telling you would spend way too much time with your smart phone. As if one could spend time with or without a tool. My phone, besides some rare occasions, is always with or near me. Yet it doesn't mean I spend time with it! I spend time with people, and I might spend my time spending time with using my smart phone to write an email. An if I spend time adjusting it to my needs or the latest desire aroused reading some blogs, so what? I do this for the sake of communication!
How come nobody understands that find difference in concept?
Day 1
25/05/2011, 11 a.m.:
Been checking my emails on the go twice, surfing on xda forum, chatting with the HTC support, writing an email to a friend, again checking my mails but also the market updates - what a pain to see there are no updates available for my installed apps. I check if it is not Sunday. No it’s not Sunday!
I discover how handy Evernotes can be. Copied an address out of the chat conversation and send it straight off to Evernotes. Must admit it was a little fight until I had marked the exact text line I wanted to have copied as it did not recognize it on its own. It would have blown me away had it read my thoughts.
I’m really thinking about one of those tables all the time. I’m kind of pissed somehow about the unfortunate fact there is no real handwriting recognition function on phones or tablets yet that really works - would be mind-blowing! I read the HTC Flyer does make advanced use of the stylus pen for note-taking somehow. I’ve seen some handwritten notes and compared them to the scribbling I am producing this very moment on real paper and there doesn’t seem to be that much of a difference.
However, I will have to type that later and I question this concept of me thoroughly doing it without giving up after a couple of minutes.
I’ve had way too many thoughts die due to the lack of an adequate and effective tool to digitalize my thoughts. I’m way much more impressed by my analogue brain-eye-arm-paper-to-key motion sequence I’ve happily produced as I realize I have really typed and added almost everything I wanted to say.
25/05/2011, 5.51 p.m.:
I wonder if I should give cyanogen latest night builds #87 a try again and get rid of my perfectly working Android Revolution ROM setup. I’m downloading, charging and backing up my phone for every eventuality...
Day 2
26/05/2011, 5.33 a.m.:
I have CyanogenMod Nightly Build #87 setup & running. Will see how it gets through the day. Fingers crossed the battery will not drain exaustingly.
26/05/2011,5.45p.m.:
In the mood for taking some screenshots and willing to do a brief review of my cyanogenmod 7 experiences...
Day 4
28/05/20011, 7.55.a.m.:
Can't hardly believe I haven't changed that much. Phone is working pretty fine, except there seems to be a problem between Fullscreen Caller ID and the call recorder that came with the modified kernel I flashed yesterday. I just won't use FSCI, instead, when I make a phone call it will try to use both the default dialer as well as the full screen dialer as the same time. The result is devastating: it will dial the number twice.
Day 6
30/05/2011, 1.53 p.m.:
Left home at 7.30 pm, battery went down to 51% by 12 a.m. and 32% by 2 p.m., whilst all I did were a few twitter & google mail updates, no phone calls, watching videos or other heavy-consuming processes.
Seems like the un-official CM7 nightly ROM I have flashed (Chezbell-cm7-20110529) is a battery killer! SetCPU is enabled, with a powersave governor profile activated when display is off, undervolted –25mA script running and I am nevertheless more than half-way out of battery within not even 7 hours – not really a full working-day yet!
Feeling unhappy and unsatisfied, after that the phone had been running so smoothly during the weekends ( some heavy 3G and EDGE-surfing in bad reception areas, gps navigation etc etc without a problem and far less battery drain). Phone was way more responsive with CM7 #87. Will switch to LORDmodUE 2.1 kernel tonight and see if it helps.
Day 7
31/05/2011, 3.13 p.m.:
I did it! I ruined it all! My sd card is totally erased! Holy frigging s’#!§t! What happened I still can’t recall exactly but I guess in any case I should learn to be more careful and most important: read and think before I act! I flashed a kernel while surfing the xda on my way home and now I don’t even find that stupid thread.
I guess it is a good point to stop my documentation now and draw my conclusions of my 7 days with cyanogenmod nightlies now.
Admins: please delete this thread. I've posted it to HTC DesireHD thread as I think it is more suitable...
Bit of a tricky one this…
I’m on a Darky 4.1JVT 2.6.35.7 Ficeto and have been for months without major issues. I’m on Vodafone UK with my Galaxy S.
My average data use per month is about 600mb, I’m not a stream addict nor a mobile YouTube user but last week at 6am on Monday my phone either up or downloaded .9Gb of data, two hours later it did it again, exactly the same amount and again in two hours. In all a bit under 3Gb in 4 hours. I was in bed at 6am and off work that day. To the best of my knowledge my phone was doing nothing other than it normally does, sit there, poll emails and ring. It’s not happened before and todate it’s happened again. Have locked the gate now after the event by using Watchdog and others 3g monitoring apps.
Has anyone else spotted a one off massive data movement?
Using Watchdog and PhoneUsage I've found that SEESMIC for Android, despite background updates not being enabled has been the cause. Today I caught it doing another 1Gb via wireless this time. Time to ask Seesmic for my bill to be paid.

What does Watchdog say about the massive data consumption? have u been able to figure out, which app is reasonable for that?
Another good app to show would be radioopt widget from the market.
If u find out, let me know...another option is, to freeze the mean app with titanium backup.
Do u use a GPS app on ur phone? May be its trying to download new maps in the background?!
Many thanks for replying, I only put Watchdog on after it happened to see if it would happen again. I've spoken to Vodafone UK but they say they cannot say where it was going to or came from. However they did say they have had an increase if unaccounted for data issues with Android & iOS.

I recommended you the radioopt widget...this is just the developer. The one that i meant is called Traffic Monitor, which is more battery saving than Watchdog. You can find it here

PAC ROM on Tenderloin/ HP Touchpad
Hopefully, I am not the only one with this issue. I have searched around but no answers
I installed the latest PAC ROM on my Touchpad and have been able to update it to 4.4.4. I moved over from Evervolv and the performance jump appears to be significant. I do get the sense that the screen resolution/display is a bit reduced and not as high quality as the Evervolv version but it could be a simple case of my eyes deceiving me.
Regardless, here is my question - I have set up multiple users with me being the owner/administrator and the other accounts set up as restricted users .
The device works fine under the Administrator/Owner account. However, the restricted user accounts do not work. I have setup three different accounts and selection of any one of them after startup causes a reboot. Switching from an Administrator/Owner account to the restricted account also leads to a reboot.
Would appreciate any help/guidance/suggestions on how this can be fixed. Thanks.
My device take so long to reboot and also big lack when I use power or home button to wake up the screen. Other than that I love this Rom and using in severeal devices. Running latest 10-31 here.

Any one wanting to help me? Or do I have to post 10 of these silly notes to get to post to the real forums?
Hi
Thanks for the rom, I've had a coupe of issues, hope this feedback helps. The first one was after installing the 3.0 kernel 18 nov rom, mounting the ext partition on Windows 7 was flaky. Attempting to copy large chunks of data back to touchpad would freeze after about 100 to 300 mb. However, plugging in since had worked fine. Strange.
Trebuchet was scaling icons on home screens and drawer. Switched to nova and all looks better.
Next is the pac settings. Just enabling halo once has messed things up with the button bar. Back stopped doing any actions. The button settings section is broken, with buttons and lastly sub menu having top headings of rearrange/settings repeating every time you switch to the settings app. When it's like this neither rearrange our settings respond to key press.
After a reboot back button works for a while, and then stops working (across all apps and launcher).
Flashed 24Nov, back button issue still there, now considering to remove user data. If there's an option to restore pac defaults I might try that.

Or your issue is so specific that no one else has reported it, and since it's not repeatable, no one can help you. Most likely any issue with multiuser in CM11 is with Android itself, not the ROM. Try some other ROM and see if you have the same problem.

Very valid.........or it could be that there is a problem with the ROM?!
I had a different ROM about two months ago and multi-user worked fine on it. I switched to this ROM for performance. Although I was able to setup multiple users on this ROM, I cannot log in to the additional user accounts that have been setup
Hoping it is a bug with this ROM and I can get educated on the option to fix it. Please help and bump to the regular discussion thread where I can post my request.
Thanks
shumash, thanks for posting the query to the main forum....no answers but that is not the point. Thank you for being helpful and for taking the time. Appreciate it.
Hopefully, there will be an answer OR it might that the ROM does not support this feature. Via a terminal window, I have verified that Android is reporting the max number of users that have been setup. So, have to think it might be bug in the ROM.

Good golly, that is good news indeed!
So, I retraced all of the work. This time, instead of restricted users, I setup up regular additional users. Kept my fingers crossed, waited for the planets and the stars to align and watched the screen closely. No go. So, something is not quite right then at my end. shumash, thanks for the confirmation.
I did the next best thing. I updated the ROM from Oct 13 build to the latest. Cleaned the cache, installed the ROM and GAPSS and restarted......and then waited......and then waited.......and then some more......and then some more......did I say I waited for the boot process to complete?!
Finally, the screen is up, and I setup the additional users and then selected the new user to login. It worked! Deleted the new user and setup a restricted user. It worked! So, only thing I can figure out from this excitement is that the old ROM had a problem which has been fixed in the new ROM....or some gremlins were out to get me and they are now gone.
Either way, thank you. I have a working device. Will play with it some more and share feedback if u like....but here are a couple to consider - the start up process is taking almost five minutes....my PC boots faster! The Oct ROM was a snap to boot up but this is on the slow train to nowhere! Not sure what happened last night but I went to bed after the update around 2:30am....turned the device on at 9am and found the battery had run down completely. Not sure why.
Seems there are some compatibility problems with online audio streaming and blue tooth speakers? I cannot get TuneIn to work with external blue tooth speakers. The stream is lost and TuneIn craters......will give it a try for a few more days. TuneIn itself works fine. But when I try to stream to an external speaker via BT, it is goodbyesville.
let me know if you want me to share feedback.....and if u bump me into the main forum, I can post it right there rather than this rookie holding space!
A bit of an update......figured a few more things in life with this ROM
The battery issue was a one-time thing. Have not seen that drainage issue again. So, good news. What I did see is some thing is not quite right in how the battery is getting charged. My completely drained battery was fully charged in less than 30 minutes.....something that takes quite a few hours normally. I can only chalk it to something not quite right with the code in the ROM regards battery charging and capacity. Backing this is the Battery Doctor app.....while it states the battery is fully charged, the ROM indicates charging is not yet complete. Not sure which one or if both of them are getting inaccurate read on the battery in this ROM. Will keep an eye on it for a bit more time but no issue with battery drainage
Same story on the wireless streaming on BT. It was a bad call. All is fine but I seemed to have lost all of my bookmarks in TuneIn. Had to set them up again but will keep an eye on them.
Now if only I can get excited about watching paint dry or the grass growing while it reboots.....sigh!
Another update.....there is still something funky with the battery charging. I thought it was a mistake and a non-issue in my update yesterday. There is an issue. My tablet went to deep freeze last night. Cannot quite figure out what the issue is.
The tablet was at 65% charge when I was ready to call it a night around 2am. To be sure that there was nothing else that would cause problems, I rebooted the tablet and set it aside. The battery charge went down to 64% after the reboot. Set it aside for the night to check on its performance. Tried to turn it on @ 9am approx and the device would not come one. No sign of life when placed on the charging stand. Not even the dead/empty battery sign. Left it there for a few hours and still now sign of life. Did a hard reset of the tablet and it came one and displayed a charge of 13%. That is after it was on the charging stand for atleast 3 - 4 hours which accounts for the little bit of charge it showed. Took all day to get full charged. Did not touch it until it was fully charged. I am going to do the same tonight i.e. reboot the tablet and set it aside. Will see what happens.
Anyone experience this with the Dec release of the ROM? I installed the Battery Monitor widget to see if I can figure out what is going on. Will share an update when I see a bit more information.

I have been using the Touchstone charger for a couple of years now without problems......so, unless, we have an extraordinary coincidence, I would not think that is the problem. But again, strange things have happened......will post an update when I have figured out more clues.

Thanks, sstar, for the tip. Fortunately, I found the original charger cable and barrel. As I suspected, the issue was not with the Touchstone. I have charged with the barrel as well as the the Touchstone. I seem to have stabilized the issues with no more surprises. No more run down tablet with no charge left, no more blue tooth streaming issues. Have not played with the camera, etc. but that is not an active need for me.
Multi-user works well, device streams well, blue tooth works well, battery charges well (with the charger as well as Touchstone). All is well in PACROM land., atleast from where I sit at!
Open items from my end is the long boot time. As I mentioned earlier, the October release was a snap to boot/reboot. Less than a minute. This version takes almost 5 minutes - one minute of a blank screen followed by over 3 minutes of insert coin. I am sure there is a reason for this change and that smart folks are working to get this improved. I did notice that the boot sequence often fails and starts over once or twice before settling down to complete the full five minutes of startup.
Now to the mystery of what could have discharged the battery completely - I have no clues here. Atlease once, I did not see it complete the full boot sequence, so perhaps, it crashed during the boot sequence and bled the battery dry. Other times, I know it was a fresh boot that had completed fully. I have installed battery widget to monitor the battery charging/discharging and have noticed an anamoly atleast once which could be simply attributed to an application/measurement error. The widget reported a battery charge during the middle of the night when all creatures big and small in this home had gone to bed.....excepting the gremlins who volunteered to plug in the tablet for a charge for a brief moment!
Thanks to all of the good folks behind the PACMAN ROM. It is a wonderful and capable ROM and is an excellent demonstration of the community putting its best foot forward for the betterment of life! Thank you all again. Kudos and keep up the good work.:good::good::good::good::good:

Probably not a ROM issue. With latest build, mine boots in 40-50 seconds. Don't know what your problem is, but sometimes it's a network issue. Turn off wifi, boot with it off, and see if the boot time improves. If not, you may need to go the complete clean and install via TP Toolbox.
Disable NavBar on HPTouchpad PACMAN Rom
Hey All,
I've installed PACMAN Rom KK RC-3 dev recently with kernel 3.4 and it works very well. Battery live is very good and everything works a bit smoother than with my old CM11.
I choosed PACMAN because there are a lot of customisations... so i liked to get rid of this navbar! Can't count how often i hit HOME instead of spaceon the virt keyboard.
i planned to enable pie on the bottom border left side.
Now i have trouble getting rid of the navbar. In the Past pacman had customisation oints for AOKP, paranoid settings now there's only PAC settings. After Googling i can't find these settings (maybe because these posts where from jan-jun and an earlier pacman version)
ROM control > navigation bar > menu location > don't show
Hybrid Properties --> Interface, under Workspace drag the slider for "Navigation Bar Size" to 0%

Can someone point me to the correct settingspage or give me a hint?
Do i have to wait for a newer release?
Thanks a lot and keep up the good work, you've gained a follower for this ROM
Hi there!
I know that this is not the first thread regarding the EXYNOS battery drain issue, but as a matter of fact, I didn´t find any hints on how to tackle it on all the forums out there. I constantly get something between 2 to 4 hours of SOT with my Note 9 and I guess I am right to say that this is far beyond strange. My 3 years old Oneplus 3T still achieves something around 6 hours - with the very same bevavior and a way smaller battery.
I´m a standard user without any special usage behavior - mainly messaging, mail checks, some notes here and there and some spotify. Dual Sim active, WiFi active, AOS active, good wifi & data connection.
Here are some repeated measurements (samsung, gsam):
EDIT: Exchanged Screenshots, see below
This cannot be normal - and as I´m obviously not alone with this issue, I´m super grateful for every meaningful discussion on the why and how to tackle. I don´t think that any behavior recommendations would be helpful here ("disable wifi if not needed", "reduce screen brightness to a minimum" etc). I don´t want to mess around with greenify via root or xposed module etc either. This is a 1000€ device and it performs much worse than my old OnePlus.
What do you guys think? is there anything i´ve missed? Are there any hints on how to hunt down some main suckers? Did anyone with an exynos device and the same issue get out of this mess?

How old is your Note 9 ? Have you updated to ONE UI recently ? And none of your links work! i tried a few. They go to some upload page! No images are being displayed, and i cant work out what to click as it's in some foreign language!!

His links in a post within the real life review forums works.
If I was OP, I'd start from scratch. I'd also be checking standby drain V SOT. Put device in airplane mode and check overnight how much battery consumption has occured. Then same with airplane mode off. Within gsam app, also check what apps are using what the most via the pull down menu, pic attached.
Also try putting to sleep all apps that dont require your notifications all the time.

Jepp, have done a factory reset recently which didn´t really have a significant effect Before someone asks: I didn´t use youtube premium until 3 days ago, it´s not the battery eater. Check this:

Strange with your SoT.. I tried a few things that helped me really. Just look into your Devoptions and navigate to ''Backgroundprocesses'' & ''Backgroundchecking for Apps'' Read this in antoher Thread here..so if you deactivate things like Bixby or similar..my SoT push up to nearly 7 Hrs and my overall runtime of the device is between 2 or 3 Days, depend on Usage. Bevore i get only 2-3 Hrs SoT and overall runtime about 1.5 Days. So maybve it will help you with this 2 settings in Devoptions.
If you cant find it, i can attach Screenshots, wich 2 Options i mean. But my Systemlanguage is German, just saying. But if you want, i upload a Screenshot. Want to say that the impact for Sot and overall runtime was amazing. You can feel it just after deacitivating a few things, if you look on your Batterybar. Other Option is to clear Cache via Recovery. But this helps not everytime and if you done a factoryreset so far, i dont think this will help.
*Edit* Oh forget to say, you can also put your Always On on activate by taping on screen. So this save me a few % Battery aswell !
Hope this will help you :good:
Heyhey Treasarion! Thx for your reply, very much appreciated! Hey, feel free to add your Screenshots, because - as a matter of fact - my Screenshots are in German as well .
I know about the impact of the AOD (but anyway, thx for the hint!), but based on my experience, that's just approx 1 % per hour (at max!), so this "macht die Suppe nicht fett". There must be another issue....
Hey would be cool to see your recommendations!

''so this "macht die Suppe nicht fett" YMMD :laugh::laugh::laugh:
Okay i give you a Screenshot wich 2 Options i mean, and 2 Screenshots wich things i personaly deactivated and are safe to deactivate. So you dont must research by yourself :highfive:
'Edit' Oh hope you can see something on my last 2 Screens..maybe they are too large ?! And for your usage case i recommend you to look exactly what you need and what not. Want to say maybe you can deactivate more then in my personal setup or less, depend on your usagecase. But i can say, that everything work perfect for me with this list of apps i deactivated for backgroundcheck or put in standbymode.
Hey! Thx for providing me with your suggestions - just updated my setup accordingly - will keep you posted!
Hi OP.
Any update on the battery performance?
Hey there,
sadly not - honestly, I'm a bit frustrated at the moment and i dont really know what to do.
What you can see in the screenshot is my exceptional use of Whatsapp yesterday evening, but still: no matter what I do, I can literally watch the battery go down.

Btw: here's one of a lot of issue reportings within the samsung members space. You can read yourself through those 10 pages, all of them are reporting the same issues.

So you had the Problems with Oreo too ?
Actually - i dont know bought the Note 9 used, as always and it already came with pie (to me!). I bought it in January, the original receipt is dated on September 18.
Maybe a downgrade to oreo via Odin is recommended to see if that helps
I mean : You tryed anything else i think
Uuhh what the...did you know that spotifiy is using the accelerator like - all the time? Just stumbled upon this in BBS and a minute of research has shown that this is a know issue since years.
Will deinstall Spotify just for a day and see if it helps. Is just had a day with Bluetooth of - no effect.
EDIT: added 2 more Screenshots. One shows a service calles com.google. android.gms, which I guess is related to play Services. Numbers of alarms and corresponding wakeups are quite high as well...
