to begin with, i want to tell you all how glad i am to have found and be a part of this community which taught and showed me a lot of things on how to configure and set up a decent working version of Windows Mobile. this is my first winmob phone, after having a dozen java/symbian/s60 operated phones.
i chose the HTC over the iPhone mainly because of the huge possibilities of tweaking, but for an inexperienced (WinMobile) user like me, to kick it off in the right way might prove to be harder than at first expected. so i decided to create this topic not only to ask for your help but hopefully to lay down some basic guidelines for all users new to this forum and to WinMob.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
my ROM version is 1.37.401.3 and my Radio version is 1.00.25.03 - that's how i bought it from store.
1. i installed the advanced confing utility but some options there don't work for me (e.g. Show SIM contacts - disable[doesn't work] or X button - close app [same]). why is that ?
2. is it in anyway possible to modify my start menu app list cause it laggs for about 2-3 seconds before opening the huge list i have there
3. what does the Radio version mean ? from what i've read on these forums, i'm thinking it has to do more than with the basic radio app, right ? what exactly does the higher version (.05) improve ?
4. the ROM version - correct me if i'm wrong .. are there official ROM versions from HTC that can be downloaded from their site that work regardless of the tweakings done to the phone? and how are user made ROMs better ? is there anything consistently better than my current version in terms of battery life and performance ?
5. i've read the manual and it says that the win media player supports .avi files yet mine doesn't open one. anything special i need to know of ?
6. what programs can i install apart from those i've found here? say yahoo messenger, if i don't want to use win messenger. and if that's possible, are there appz especially made for winmobile cause i doubt it that an ordinary PC .exe will work the same
7. is there any way to use the camera from the front of the phone for photos?
8. is there no other possibility of turning the phone ON from sleep mode other than the power button ? if not, where's the timer that sets how many seconds pass before entering sleep mode?
9. if i got it right, tomtom7 is a gps navigation program, right? does it work stand-alone? i mean, no external receiver? and does it connect to the internet while in usage ? what about google maps?
10. any other useful programs to recommend other than the ones found within this section of the forum ? i've read about users using Total Comander.. where can i find that ? or is it the normal PC program ?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
i know these are a lot of questions but honestly these were the first things that popped in my mind after using this phone for nearly 5 days now i'll be grateful for whatever answers, advice and solutions you'll be kind enough to provide.
8. Take out the stylus - wakes it up. Just got mine today and found this out by accident. After all - why read the manual??
9. TomTom 6 is the version I bought for my Trinity, and it works just fine on my Diamond. I just chose Com Port 4 for 'other bluetooth receiver' and it works without the need for an external bluetooth GPS receiver. Curiously it turns bluetooth on while TT is running - then turns it off when stopping TT. Does it really need to connect to itself via bluetooth? Any readers got an idea?
domnu' iliescu,
a. go to:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Diamond
and learn a few basics and in special a few therms some "slang"
b. go to:
http://modmydiamond.info/index.php and learn how to hardspl and flash a new ROM.
the "cooked" ROMs are by far better than the original one (the one u have for example). is like buying a car and using a kit to tune it, make it the way you like it. you tweak the motor and you''l get less consumption (more memory and longer battery life), more speed (faster and smoother diamond) and so on. escuse my car analogy but the thing i love even more than my diamond is my car (i wonder, is it really in this order?).
now, my answers to yr question. i might be wrong on some of the answers but there are enough ppl here hapy to correct me..lol
1. there is a high probability that flashing a new ROM will change that (see a.)
2. for sure flashing will solve it.
3. in simple words, the radio is the function that allows you to make calls, use bluetooth or yr gps. connectivity. see my a. for more info.
4. see the beginning of my replay namely, point b.
5. don't know why, again maybe a new ROM will solve this (strange ..)
6. live it to later. there is somewhere here a post regarding applications and programs supported by diamond. first flash new ROM and new radio, get familiar with the device and forget about applications. there are a few "must have" but again, l a t e r .
7. the camera is for video calls. why do u need to used when u have a better (much better) one dedicated to taking pictures?
8. pull out the stylus is my favorite.
regarding "the timer":
- go to settings/system/power/backlight for adjusting the backlight and go to settings/system/power/advanced for what u call "sleep mode". btw, it is in diamond's manual!
9. the diamond has an internal GPS. no need for external (see yr manual again). you can choose between lots of navigation programs. tomtom, igo8 and google maps (never used google maps, maybe somebody else is going to help you). i am using igo8.
10. total commander is somewhere as a cab file in the thread of one of the many ROMs here. i'll look for it or i'll upload mine somewhere.
important!!
read diamond's manual, keep reading in the forum, ask only after you are certain that the answer is not somewhere here (use search function) and read again some more! "invatzatzi! invatzatzi! invatzatzi!
good luck! Noroc!
On point 8, has anyone managed to wake the phone up/bring the screen light back on without pressing the power button or removing the stylus? Pushing the central button or even the home button would be better.

You should install diamond tweak, you'll find it on the forum, for easyier twaeking, it got 40 tweaks incl, and you can easy just disable or enable there.
if you hide sim contacs, it will be reset to show again after a soft reset i think.
4. the ROM version - correct me if i'm wrong .. are there official ROM versions from HTC that can be downloaded from their site that work regardless of the tweakings done to the phone? and how are user made ROMs better ? is there anything consistently better than my current version in terms of battery life and performance ?
Yes there is a new rom out, 1.93, you can download it from htc.com, htc e club, register there, and then register your product when you are logged on, and you should be able to install it.
5. i've read the manual and it says that the win media player supports .avi files yet mine doesn't open one. anything special i need to know of ?
Install TCPMP/core player, .avi, .mpeg etc. works there, best player for movies imo.
7. is there any way to use the camera from the front of the phone for photos?
Yes there is, when you use camera, go on settings and press the icon with 2 cameras on, and it will switch to the camera on the front
10. any other useful programs to recommend other than the ones found within this section of the forum ? i've read about users using Total Comander.. where can i find that ? or is it the normal PC program ?
NoData, tcpmp, S2P(music player), diamond TF3D config, diamond tweaks is some of those i find very good to have.

Do you prefer a clean version of WM6 or with extra applications?
And which applications do you like?
C_shekar - I think you need some investigation which kind of soft user needs.
So let us post our vision of required soft preinstalled in ROM.
as far as I understand we taking about freeware.
My List:
1. Touch flo (if there are any possibility)
2. Dict
3. Alreader light 2\Hali reader
4. Total Commander Mobile
5. TCMP
6. Pdf - viewer
7. WM5-storage
8. Some sort of timer.
9. ICQ application (qip for example)
10. Gsplayer
11. Rar mobile
1. No RAM disk
2. 24MB Pagepool
3. TouchFlo
I think the ROM should stay clean, so the user can decide what apps he wants to add.
I think one can only add the HTC home tab thingie!
Cheers
divocak
no ram disk ??
man are you mad ?
for what reason you need all amount of RAM ?
Are you know that without ram-disk device SLOW DOWN ??
But I`ve agree to save some extra mem by lowering page poll. (I think 16 mb will be ok )
No, just leave the pagepool at 32 as I think it's neccessary to keep the Rom goes fast. No more software should be added I hope 'cause users can add them in later on. Just all the important fixes and patches. And that's all. Anyone want to personalize the ROM can do that by creating an extendedRom in their SD, is it, so just try to keep the version pure (one of the best exapmle is buzz 3.33). But, the ROMs that personalized before by certain developers are appreciated as well.

Oh i dont know that - i think that ram-disk is only for storage. thanx for info.
I agree. The upgrade rom should be a clean one so a person can choose exactly what software they require and will use. We must also remember that we all use our PPC for different reasons so there will never be a rom with software we all want or need.
Clean and Clear
Hello!!! Yes I think the WM6 should be clean version, if someone wants to install apps they can do so. The reason to keep the clean version is to make the device run faster.
Although there should be a clean version but also there should be a choice of software (seprately given). If need be people can install them on their Device.
Kind Regards
Jay
removing the extra applications will not give more storage
it will not give more memory
it will just mean that the rom part of ones flash is left more empty
some softwares are necessary...
because not all of Himalaya users are goood at play the phone, they need it quick and all-in-one.
may be we can cook 2 ROMs,one clean version of WM6 and one with extra applications

But not installing extra software will give choice to people what to install and what not to install. Dont you think it would be a good idea to leave it to people regardless of space or memory issues?

very very clean please
What I personally use from 2003 and 2005 ROMs is:
phone
contacts
notes
tasks
calender
SMS
activesync
camera
windows media
bluetooth for mono headset, gps receiver, audio over car radio (behaves like mono headset and mutes for phone or navigation)
connection manager
picture viewer
sometimes Word, wouldn't miss it
Never used:
games
download agent
file explorer
gprs on/off
internet explorer
internet sharing
modem link
search
Powerpoint
WM5torage
email
Very unwelcome: certificates
I do use all settings from the tabs Personal and System, from the connections settings I only use Bluetooth
But -although a contradiction to my wish for a very clean ROM- I do believe that not only I, but most of us do like some features like smartdial, TouchFlo, PDF, VERY LOUD ringtones and repeating alerts for notifications, missed calls, missed txt messages and so on. And localisation would be very welcome too.
Theoretically it would be best if either during the flash operation or at first boot after flashing it would be possible to make your own selections using some kind of wizard/script that would be intelligent enough to warn for example that the help files will no longer be available if you remove IE, that probably SMS will no longer be available if email program is not installed (I guess).

Ya but this is personal List of what you use, if developers starts building personal roms, it will be never ending story.
What I suggested is to build a clean rom, Hyman said the right thing. Build one with basic clean rom and the other with fully loaded and whoever wants which ever they can pick their choice.
Kind Regards
Jay

Personally, I don't think so.
If one wouls want to install some software (common used, for example) he would install it in storage mem. And I could make it into rom instead.
If you don't want to use it - just don't use it
One day we would make a kitchen - and then all could make their own personal rom.
Personally, I can tell you that I'm going to release a clean and speed tweaked rom - once, and then I'm going to start releasing my personalized one.
It seems like we all get the answer now. One pure version and one with all modification that builder desires. No more discussion I guess

I wanted to give insight in how I use my Hima, it is by no means a wish list for a personalised ROM. (although volunteers are welcome to cook one for me ;-)
I hope others will give similar insight in their uses.
When I flashed to WM5 I thought I was using a clean ROM. It did come with Powerpoint and Exell, IMHO a waste of space. It didn't come with a working smartdial and it took me a full day to find a smartdial that works on one of my Hima's but not on another almost identical Hima. IMHO an awful waste of time unless you like to reinvent the wheel.
I've seen discussions in other threads about what they do/do not call a "clean" ROM. IMHO a clean ROM should offer as much basic functionality as possible. I believe Smartdial is one of these basic functions.
But every piece of software that you can find elsewhere, like Powerpoint and Exell should in my opinion be left out of the clean ROM, right?
A kitchen would be a good idea. A kitchen with a clear step by step manual that any noob can follow would be even nicer. Perhaps such kitchens were around before the ftp site closed, I'm only here regularly since a week or two.
I downloaded two files with the word kitchen in its name and unfortunately neither explained to me how to use it.

I can't agree with you any more
I just bought a Touch Diamond -very nice phone with a couple exceptions.
Touchflo 3d is nice but Im finding it doesnt have much depth - it needs more functions. And the loudspeaker is not very good - not loud, not clear.
Anyways, its my first windows mobile phone and had a couple questions about what WM6.1 can do. Im using Vista btw.
1. Email - Im downloading ALL my email and its fairly big. Can I force it to save only to internal storage?
2. Music - How do you get the album photo to come up while playing through Touchflo music - the picture does come up if i just play in windows media player.
3. Is it possible to add/remove multiple contacts from the People Menu ie Favourite contact
4. Most important - connectivity. Is it possible to access the phone wirelessly from PC via router? The phone connects to the router wirelessly fine and I can use the internet. But what I want to be able to do is either access the internal storage or sync up with outlook without using the usb cable.
5. What kind of BASIC phone functions does it have?
Eg. Call timer during call
Stop it going to that call history page after a call - i want it to go straight back to home.
Theres more functions it seems to be missing....
6. How do you make it so it FULLY shuts down a program when u hit the top right close button? I dont want to have to keep re-hitting the top right button to open task manager and full close it that way.
7. Lastly, is there any secret tips that a newbie wouldnt know about eg. codes to get to secret menus etc?
1. I don't think so, but I don't download email, so somebody who does may be able to help.
2. Strange problem, probably to do with the version of ID3 tags each uses. But again I have no idea how to solve it
3. No idea with no device in hand
4. Microsoft, being twats, reoved sync via Wi-Fi with the upgrade to WM2003. So, sorry mate, no way that I know
5. My dialer on my other PPC has call timer I think, but the diamond's may not, a new dialer with it included may solve the problem.
Other stuff missing?
6. Get a proper x button, like WKTask, or Wisbar, or something similar. Its also probably possible to change the settings to make it close by tapping X. I also think that with the HTC program, you can close by tap and hold, or, from today, click where the x should be, and a menu comes up enabling you to close them individually.
7. Secret codes? Not that I know of.
Hope the small things I have known here do help
Rory
Yeah, 6 is definitely something that can be done in the standard Windows Mobile settings (unless they've removed the setting in 6.1, in which case a registry edit might do it).
I guess when the phone has been out for a while, a lot of registry tweaks and utils will show up around here to adress all kinds of small and big issues.
i was gona go for a diamond but look at htc touch pro. everything diamond plus hardware keyboard and memory expansion slot (minus front camera).
Found how to fully close the progam in one go - went to task manager - button - and chose "End Programs by tapping X"
Under this option is "End programs by tapping and holding X" which is the default.
I tried it and it does work but I dont like it. Coz u cant really tell how long to hold it. If u keep holding, the program actually just stays open until u release. And I guess if u release too early it wont fully close.
Anyways - thats not a huge issue - wireless sync is!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Has anyone found a way to get around it?
Best you can do with WIFI is put the UNC name of your pc into the browser and bring up the shares.
If you want to sync wirelessly, you'll have to do it via bluetooth. You should be able to get a bluetooth dongle for your pc for about 20 bucks though.
OH YEAH!!!!!!!! Going through Opera to browse my PC directory - You little beauty!!!
Now, how do I set up a name for the diamond so I can see it on my PC. Is there a setting you have to enable? I browse for "PCs" and it doesnt find the diamond - just my other PCs
Ok just cooked this up over the weekend .. still needs a little tweaking and testing - is the first ROM that I have released - I think it is kinda clean
Feedback is much appriciated (as always) ... and let me know if you find any bugs
BTW I read somewhere that it is possible to increase SnapVue's RAM to 64 MBs - sounds like a load of * to me ... but let me know if you know how to do this as it is really SnapVue's downfall IMHO
... I will also post some screen shots when I get the chance (is kinda late here atm)
... basically these are the specs:
Initial Release (8/2/2009):
Free RAM after hard reset: ~15MBs
Free Storage after hard reset: ~20MBs
Based on thaihugo's kitchen ROM
New input methods:
Full QWERTY (nicer and easier to input than the built in one)
Software included:
Office Mobile
Remote Desktop
Pictures and videos
Notes
Pocket Internet Explorer
Live/Messenger
Windows Media Player
Restored Today Items
Internet Sharing
Liberated
Opera Browser (Full)
MS Voice Command (Pre setup to read email subjects)
NET Compact Framework 3.5
Network Plugin
HTC Task Manager 2
HTC GPS Tool
SIM Manager
Task Manager
USB Tool
Automatically deletes Opera cache, PIE cache Temp folder and Google Maps cache each startup
Various registry tweaks... eg:
No SMS notification
Cleartype
Phone stuff removed since there is no phone functionality ... yet
The link is attached in the text document so I can see how many ppl download it
Note: you can free up alot of space by removing MS Voice Command from the cook - and save about 4 MBs of RAM by disabling it - It is important for me to be able to 'hear' my emails come in while I am at work though so this has been put in
However the overall stability of the ROM has been sacrificed in doing so -
To disable: Start > Settings > Voice Command > Uncheck Enabled
WARNING - IF PROGRAMS CLOSE UNEXPECTEDLY: This is because your low on RAM - you can stop the Voice Commander service as stated above, or download advanced config and prevent HTC Task Manager from closing apps automatically when low on RAM

Common Questions
OK thought I'd put together a list of common questions that people have with this ROM to stop me answering the same questions again and again.
Q: What else is included in the Flash
A: Besides the OS the ROM includes Hard SPL and Radio 1.27.35.28
Q: Can I run this ROM on
A: Besides the OS the ROM includes Hard SPL and Radio 1.27.35.28
Q: How do I install this ROM?
A: Well if you have used custom ROMs in the Past you can just download and run the EXE - else you will have to "Liberate" your shift - connect it to your Vista side with USB Tools and then run the EXE
Q: How do I disable T9
A: Open the input options for the Full QWERTY Keyboard - Click T9 Settings then un-check all the checkboxes
Q: The WM side turns off and will not come back on
A: If this happens to you go to ( on the WM side) Settings > Connections > USB to PC application and tick "Enable Advanced Network Functionality" (thanks nbos04)
A2: You can also disable (Under Settings>Power>Advanced) the option to turn off the device when it is not used for X.
Q: Programs keep closing unexpectedly
A: You may be low on RAM - if this is the case you may want to kill the Voice Command Service, as this takes up to 4MBs of RAM constantly
Q: How can I change the Keyboard Language?
A: The registry setting for the keyboard layout is as follows HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE\DEVICEMAP\KEYBD\CurLang; The complete list of values to enter can be found here; however not all are fully compatible with the Windows Mobile platform; also changing these key mappings will not change the large on screen keyboard - to change the on screen one you will need to either edit the eT9.Raphael.0409.kmap.txt file (advanced but allows for custom layouts); or download another layout from here.
I will consider including the additional on screen keyboard languages in future releases.
Q: How do I set the data connection on the W/M side to auto - disconnect as it drains the battery too quickly?
A: The registry setting for the to auto disconnect the data connection is at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\ConnMgr\Planner\Settings. In there you have the setting CacheTime this is the number of seconds that will elapse before auto disconnection the data connection when not in use; change this as appropriate. You will also need to turn on the auto disconnection by editing the SuspendResume to read: GPRS_bye_if_device_off
(Note: if the auto disconnection still does not work make sure that you are not constantly connected to data - ie. Exchange server set to receive items as they arrive)

Congrats on your rom. Looks heavy.
There is no way to get 64 mb of ram as this is the current chipset capacity, without OS loaded.
44Mb is my maximum storage available (with a functionning system of course)
I'm waiting for the new base with phone to work from there.

Yea like I said it sounded like a load of * -ahh well - plan to re-release this ROM when the phone is hacked too!
I love this sort of ROM - stuffed full of goodies. It's like a Christmas treat.
I've installed the ROM just now and it's exactly how I would want the WM side to be. Thanks for setting up Opera for us layabouts that can't be bothered to
I have syncd the ROM with my huge Outlook file and it works great.
Will give you more feedback as I play.
Latest:
I'm very happy with Opera.
Haven't worked out how to disable T9 yet to set up email etc.
I can't install youtubeplay I'm getting an error. Anyone know how to get it working on this ROM?
Very Latest: I found the option to disable T9 under the keyboard options. I love the new large on-screen keypad!
I prefer the fancy calculator of Gullum's ROM IMHO.

I will install the calc skin from my touch pro and see how that runs - also will rip some more "unnecessary" stuff out such as bluetooth since it doesn't work anyway and will hopefully free up some memory too
As for you tube you could download the diamond/touch pro version here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=395338
don't know if it works but judging by my touch pro the interface only works in Portrait (it may still work but will load in portrait)
as for the calc skin i have attached it to this post with a screen shot
will also post a newer version of my ROM, later tonight, that has ~22.5 MBs of free space (and 27.95 total user area) after boot and ~16 MBs of free ram ... seems to be more stable also
may embed the calc skin into later builds ... but it's a little big for my tastes for something i don't use
Thanks i00.
I agree that the default calculator is best now that I have seen the memory requirements of the fancy calculator skin.
Thanks for the youtubeplayer link. I haven't tried it yet but will do so this evening.
I'm having a bizzare problem setting up my email accounts for some reason. It is tricky entering my username and password, and when I try to auto detect the account configuration it says it cannot connect. When I go BACK, the password field contains more characters than I originally entered. I haven't tried manually setting up the full account yet, but this behaviour I haven't seen before.
I haven't worked out how to get the voice control goodies working yet but I'll enjoying tryin all of that out this week. I wouldn't miss voice control at all on your next ROM release however.
Edited:
Comm Manager under SnapVue Settings seems to run without displaying anything. I hope that can be fixed...
Looking forward to your next ROM release. Hope it is soon... your's is the best ROM yet IMHO.
Thanks again.
Updated.
Have been using the new ROM and am happy to report that it is notably more responsive and faster.
I was delighted to find screen orientation option for portrait under settings, so thanks for that. Although I did manage lose the start menu at some point so I was stuck on the Snapvue page and was forced to reboot from Vista. I'll let you know the details if I repeat it.
The modem is totally stable, which is great. I didn't manage to work out how to install youtubeplay but it's no showstopper, I'm very please with the ROM. I installed fexploreext which is small but infinitely useful.
Ta.
Will try to post a new release before Wed next week ... any suggestions for the new release? - I am considering taking out Opera Full and loading Opera mini instead as it requires less RAM.
Am also making a registry editor that I plan to include in the next release.
Let me know if you (anyone) has any requests.

Have you installed a custom rom onto your device before?
You need to Hard SPL on it prior to trying to flash this ROM
The error codes are listed here:
http://www.4winmobile.com/forums/windows-mobile-faq/13329-ruu-errors.html
This page states
ERROR [262] : UPDATE ERROR
This error occurs during the CE ROM code upgrade process.
Solution: If this happens, you can just soft-reset the device and run RUU again. The update process will then continue.
Note: At this stage, the Wince is destroyed; instead, it is in upgrade mode.
I would try again and if that doesn't work
Download another RUU
I think that's my problem : I've only liberated the ROM shipped with my Shift.
I found the thread with Hard SPL... I've install it... Now's the ROM turn !
Thanks for the help !

So did the ROM flash since u Hard SPLed? - and let me know what u think.
Also nice dog btw
going to try it
I have tried thai hugos and gullims and been disappointed with various things so i'm goign to try yours. I was intending to try to install my tiny kensington mouse which is bluetooth and worked with my advantage but if you've ripped BT out I can't is there a way to put it back in?
Thw worst thing i found about the other rom's is the fact stoopid usb tool never stays connected, anyone else have that issue?
edit: found some stuff about usb tool issues on the forum and trying those.

Yes, the "flashing process" worked perfectly... but I was a bit disappointed with the fact that the ActiveSync process was unable to complete the update of my 325 contacts : it always failed after 116 contacs updated...
So I tried a french ROM (the "French light GPS" one) and it worked...
Maybe a language issue...
If you want me to go back to your ROM and work together to sort this out, I'd be pleased to help...

1.Is there some way i can put few specific softwares in the startup list of the Xperia. e.g so that whenever i restart my Xperia, these software automatically get started.
2. I installed the radio software for Xperia, but i didnt found any button in the menu/ programs to launch the radio, why is that so?
3. How to configure my company email on the Xperia, as i used P990i earlier and there is one software Active Synchronization which automatically detect the settings.
4. In the contacts menu, i can see all the contacts, e.g, my hotmail email contacts, Gmail/Yahoo email contacts, i just wanted that i can see only the mobile number from SIM/ or stored in mobile, but cannot found these option for it.
5. Where i can download if someone can guide free version of TOM TOM GPS?
The help will be really appreciated.
THanks

someone correct me if i'm wrong, but the radio is it's own panel, and you can only bring it up via the panel manager by pressing the X button...
...unless of course you've customized your OS or ROM significantly, but it sounds like you're stock
Well i will like to have information, i am new user, dont know much about windows mobile, any correction will be highly appreciated.

1 -
- Open the Start Menu
- Select Programs
- Open File Explorer (or File Manager)
- Navigate to the program you want to autostart
- Copy the program ("copy" is available from the menu)
- Navigate to the StartUp folder (My Device\Windows\StartUp)
- Paste the program into this folder
2 - It should be in Programs.
3 - Depends on many things. If it is automatic then you shouldn't have a problem.
4 - I am not using the default software, so I can't check. Maybe someone else can help.
5 - You have to pay for it.

Where did you get the "radio software"? You may have installed a Radio ROM. It controls the radio waves coming and going from your phone to the cell tower. The Xperia already comes with an FM radio, no need to install one. It's either a panel (the Radio Panel for old versions or built into the Media Experience Panel for newer ones).

If you use Microsoft Outlook for your company email, use Microsoft Active Sync (search the forum or even Google to get step-by-step instructions how to use it) to access your email from your phone. If you user hotmail/gmail/yahoo for your company email, the phone's built in email client will automatically configure it for you.

I'm not sure about TomTom though. They might let you download the software for free, you just have to pay for the maps. Better check with the website. If you're looking for warez (free: cracked/keygens/serials), those are not allowed in this site.
1 and 4: same answer as Orelsi.

For your problem no 4: there is no option to hide your messenger contacts. you had to choose in the beginning that the contacts shouldn't show up in your contacts list.
did you first used hard-spl ?? is so try to flash with sd method. i use it always and it works perfect and fast and i never got a error
Well i tried that way, i run X1_HardSPL on the computer, later formated the sd card and put the file KOVSIMG.nbh in the sd disk, tried with the procedure written for flashing the ROM, but my mobile stuck and keep on showing loading ....... and do not proceed further.
Any help appreciated

Just follow the instruction:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=446070e
My friend i am following this thread, but the problem is when i reach to these steps
Follow the instructions (it should say something like "Image Version: 1.02.111.7" to "1.00.X1")
- If asked, press "Yes" on the X1
- Now a 4-color screen should show up, showing some version Info
- After that, a progressbar screen will be shown and the phone will reboot when finished
The progressbar do appear but it dno proceed further, and just showing loading and nothing more. I even tried via Micro SD card method, the same problem its hang and do not proceed further.
Thanks
Can anyone educate me as to whether Android is a viable option on the vogue, and if there is a usable build (flashable or running off of SD)?
I have switched (possibly temporarily) from blackberry to a Vogue, and have flashed OEM WM 6.1 and most recently egzthunder1's WM 6.5 rom. I'm trying to get the device as usable without a stylus as possible, and WM 6.5 is pretty close to that goal, but there are still some reliability problems. Just little constant annoyances (can't seem to get an LED to flash to let me know I have unread SMS or eMail, touchscreen is not as sensitive to finger presses as iPhone / iPod touch or Dell Axim X50v, GUI is still clumsy and clunky in some apps), and some bugs (device freezing up, touchscreen becoming less responsive from time to time, SMS notifications not triggering alerts, etc).
So is Android available, and if so, is it just a novelty or is it a legitimate option for actual day to day use on a Vogue?
Thanks!
Dailey use.. but it's not in the upgrade forum. you have to check the general forum.
To get android installed as a complete windows mobile replacement check here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=593786
It's starting to become a viable option.
Note that bluetooth is still a work in progress, but otherwise most everything else works.
The only reasons I still use Windows Mobile are:
1) Longer battery life: For some reason android currently lasts about a day or two, when the phone is on standby. For Windows Mobile I can get it to last about 5-6.
2) Tethering: There are some issues with tethering (needing to run custom programs on the laptop, etc).
3) No-internet GPS (TomTom, etc)
Things I liked about Android:
1) Responsive touch screen
2) Easier to receive/dismiss an SMS
3) Easier to send an SMS
4) GMail integration
5) Lots of applications, and easy to install
6) Faster/Better web browser (Better than Opera Mobile, SkyFire, IE, etc)
If you want to give it a try, you can use my version. It's a slightly older version of android (not the best there is to offer), but it works decently well. Google Maps Navigation doesn't work, but it should soon.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/58383/android.exe
The exe is a self-extracting zip file. Double-click and it will ask
where you want to extract it.
You'll need to extract that zip file to your phone's memory card.
Extract it so that the android folder is at the base of the memory
card (or extract it to your desktop and then copy the android folder
over).
Then in Windows Mobile, you go to Start > Programs > File Explorer.
1. Navigate to the Secure Digital Card folder.
2. Go to the 'android' folder on the SD card.
3. Run Haret.exe. Then click Run.
It will reboot into android. You can always use the reset button on
the bottom to get back into Windows Mobile.
The buttons in Android are as follows:
1. Top button (short press): Wakes the phone up from sleep. It also
brings up/closes the android menu. The android menu is like the File
menu in windows mobile, it's used to enter URLs in the browser, or
adjust settings in other screens.
2. Top button (long press): Brings the keyboard up manually.
3. Top button (long press when android menu is up): Rotates the
screen between horizontal and vertical mode.
4. Side button (short press): The camera button on the side is the
'back' button.
5. Side button (long press): Brings you back to the main screen.
Your application will stay where it's at (internet will stay open).
6. End Call Button: Ends call. Turns off the screen when you're on
the Home Screen.
Do this to port your contacts from Windows Mobile to Android (need a GMail account):

Did you happen to see the article posted yesterday on the XDA home page?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=619877
There are plenty of android builds available for the vogue. No flashing required. Simply copy the files onto the root of your SD card.
If you use the 1.5 based build in the thread that I linked bluetooth works fine.
We're working on it for donut (1.6) as well.. As google changes the way things are handled in every release it often takes a while to get them sorted out.
The Tattoo that is posted on the man xda page looks real good ... i'm about to get a second vogue just to play with it.
Thanks everyone. I was able to give this version a try off of SD:
[note]I Can't embed links to URLs link back to this very forum, which is kind of silly[/note]
SenseTattoo 1.0.
But for the life of me I couldn't flash it. I really liked it, and I think it might be the deciding factor for me to switch over to the Vogue as my main phone. The main downside was large delays, which I assume was from loading data from the SD card instead of NAND.
I'm reverting back to WM 6.5 so I can at least run Android off the SD card again.
Is there information comparing Hero to Tattoo? I searched but couldn't find anything. Are there UI differences, functional differences, or is it just skins?

Flashing is simple. If it works from SD, then you put the data.img (distro should come with one or look around for one), system.whatever, and rootfs.gz files in the BASE directory of the SD card. Then you create 3 blank files, systemtonand, rootfstonand, and datatonand. Then flash the *.nbh file. When it reboots, it will program the phone.

I agree about the comments that say Android is very close to being an everyday ROM. Depending on what you are willing to put up with it could even be considered an everyday ROM at this point BUT....
After running Android 1.6 for several weeks (daily use) I have gone back to NFSFAN's final 6.5 ROM and I have to say WOW!! it feels 100% more “native” on the Vogue. Stuff just works. period. So if oisact is looking for something that is modern, works well and eliminates most (not all) of the stylus use then I would highly recommend NFSFAN's work.
There will be far more "little constant annoyances" with Android at this stage then with a good Windows Mobile ROM. Again I refer you to our friend NFSFAN
Also, part of the stylus issue on the Vogue I believe is simply due to screen size. I often whipped out my stylus under Android as well. Although it is good that more and more of these ROMs are becoming less and less stylus centric. Windows Mobile (particularly some of the 3rd party apps) has to get up to speed in this area.

I have been using it daily and wouldn't ever consider going back to nfsfan winmo rom.

However, I haven't been able to make any calls using the Google voice app. Anyone else, or is it just my setup?
