Hello,
I've had my tilt for less than a year now. Today, my screen, when I turned it on, shook and while it was shacking, it was showing multiple lines on the screen. At the end, the screen was complete white. I can still make/receive calls, however, I wouldn't know what's going on since the screen was white. It seems to me it was a loose connection???? It got me extremely worried. I took off the battery, made a hard-reset, tried to physically move the screen, non worked. all of a sudden, the screen was fine. Later today, it happened again.
Can anyone please explain this problem to me and how to fix it. I would really appreciate that...
Thank you
Not sure what "shacked" means.
But given you are under 1 year, you probably have a warranty. Would be best to try and get a warranty exchange.
To have you dig around inside checking connection and voiding your warranty, would not be wise with an active warranty.

Ahh Booo.
Ok, Find mikechannon's disassembly guides and wiggle all your connections. Sounds like a loose connection to me.
Hello,
Thanks for the reply, I dismantaled my device and made sure all the connections are fine. The problem still appears....
Ok Next Thing it, The LCD panel is "dieing" you will probably need to replace it.

oh damn
I noticed that when it happens, if I touched the OK and the end call button together, it would sometimes solve the issue. I would have to do it several times though. Is that any hint? are there screen related connections underneath those buttons?
Thank you for your continuing support, much appreciated!
OK, I've noticed that once I click on the call button, the white screen shows up. As I said, I dismantled my device and checked all the connections. However, I didn't go further than the 15th page, i didn't go further because I though that it wasn't necessary.. That's the websites of the tutorial I followed:
http://www.mikechannon.net/PDF Manuals/Replacing the LCD on a Kaiser.pdf
So the two connections I made sure they are properly in was the small and big one only like in the picture below....

Please help as this issue is really bothering me. Anyhelp is much appreciated!
Those connections you have pointed out in those pictures are the keyboard ribbon connections....I think you might have to dismantle a bit further to get to the screen.

OK, I went further and was able to see the screen ribbon. I made sure the connections are in tight. However, after putting everything back, the problem still persist. Now, I'll be more than happy to buy a new screen IF it solves the problem... Please correct me if i'm wrong, doesn't seem more like a connection problem; maybe the chip that holds the ribbon cable is loose? In this case, it would need soldering???
Moreover, I noticed that the screen ribbon is underneath the talk button. Like I said before, touching the talk button solves the white screen*. Isn't that more proof that its not a screen issue?
I am very grateful for any advice...
Thank you
* Before completely dismantling the phone, it used to be touching the talk button brings the white screen problem, now its the opposite

It's very white, but you can make out some text and icons, the touch screen still works.
I'm using the original O2 ROM on my O2 XDA Stellar, and have never flashed the ROM or HardSPL (Yet!).
i tried booting into the bootloader but the screen is still like that, so I presume this is not a software issue.
Any suggestions before I call O2 for a replacement?
EDIT: I must point out that the screen is still at it's proper brightness, it is just mostly white! Kind of inverted infact.
Hi,
I've the same problem!!!!!!

No way! What device is yours, the Stellar?
Just tried a hard reset with no joy.
About to call O2. Have you done anything bout it yet?
My device is an Italian HTC TyTN II.
I also tried with an Hard Reset, but nothing.......
I sent it to service center.......
Well I've called up O2, who were very good. Because I have had the phone for less than 28 days, they are sending me out a brand new one immediately, and I just swap the broken one with the new one at the door when it arrives!
Same thing exactly happened to me tonight. I guess it's a hardware problem. I'll be calling AT&T tomorrow.
Well I've received my replacement fine. O2 sent it straight out, next day delivery, swapped it at the door.
One interesting thing I have discovered is that the keyboard and external side keys are much better than in my old one. I had initially complained about them, the keyboard was not very responsive, some keys hardly clicked and it was hard to tell if you had actually pressed them sometimes. The new one is almost perfect!
same here humm this is gonna suck now.. anyone know how to return att phone with out an account
Well, my phone started doing that same thing last night.
I bought my Tilt about six months ago and it has been the greatest phone I've ever had.
Last night after touching the Contacts icon at the bottom right corner of the screen the whole screen turned very white just like the photos posted on the first post of this thread. I can still read the text, but the screen is too bright even though it is set to the lower brightness level. If I increase the brightness it gets almost unreadable.
I slided out and tilted the front and it came back to normal. It hapenned again and I did some very small hits with the tip of my finger and it came back to normal. It happened like 5 more times and got fixed back with some small hits with the fingers. However, after the sixth time it has not come back to normal.
It seems to me like some bad or broken contact, specially because it seems to happen when I touch the bottom right corner. I don't think reloading any software will fix this.
Whatever the problem is I will have to solve it myself since I bought this phone over Ebay and mailed down to me to Costa Rica.
I'm planning on opening the front and examining the display today in the afternoon. If anyone has some tips to share with me on this particular problem or on how to open the thing I will really appreciate them.
I did open my Tilt today as well as another good working one from a friend of mine.
The display from the working Tilt works just fine in my phone while my display does the same too bright behaviour.
Looks like a defective display to me. I already ordered a replacement.

hello
I have got a problem with my xperia, the top bar shows that my stereo headset is connected but is not...therefore, i cant hear anyone who is trying to call me or i call anyone.. i have been in a vodafone store and they could not find a solution, i also have done hard reset and is still the same... now im about to flash new rom. would that be a solution or any of you got different?
please help me, thanks in advance
try connecting headset again but give it a wiggle about, not too much also try pulling it out and puting it back in quickly several times in a row. be carefull.
i tried that already, not working
after a hard reset i can only assume it's a hardware fault, so i would go get it fixed because if you flash a new rom that will invalidate your waranty.
do that in the FMradio application
thank you guys, i also think that i should return it for vodafone service..
i tried in fmradio and still no working
sorry to hear that. good luck with that
last time that annoying thing happened to me i had to go to the htc HD fm radio app and plug and unplug the offical 3.5 connector to make it work( try plugging->listen to radio->set output to speakers-> then unplug)
a bunch of questions:
-what rom are you using
-did you try different 3.5 connectors
-is the earphone that caused the problem low quality?
the last time this happened to me i used the stylus and just waggled about for ages and ages and eventually the sensor registered that the headphones weren't plugged in.
do a search as plenty of people have had the exact same problem ...
good luck !
yes - just waggle the stylus around in it until it goes - worked for me
thank you..the thing with stylus works, hopefully but its still anoying to do that every time i put my headset
i have got an original vodafone uk rom
yes, i have tried many different headsets
the quality is fine
I have the exact same problem on my 4 month old X1, and now i dont rly know how hard i should wiggle with the stylus...

try waggling and then try inserting the headphones a few times and taking them out too
I've had the same prob for a week now.
After reading up on other HTC phones with the same issue I've found that what went wrong was a little hardware switch inside the jack failed to reset to its off position when the headphones where removed.
To locate the switch:
Turn the phone onto back so that the screen is facing upwards. The switch is at the 4-5 o'clock position if you look directly at the headphone jack, at around 1cm in.

I inserted a small pin which was bent a little at the end to relative position I have described and after I felt it snag just gave it a small wiggle. When doing this I noticed the headphone icon would disappear for a second and return.
This is how I knew I was in the correct position. Then I gave it a good twist.
(I think anti clockwise, but you will know from which direction worked when you wiggled)
The headphone icon disappeared for good and now I'm back to normal phone use!
(Do this at your own risk! But its more precise than sticking the stylus in blind)

DO NOT RETURN IT. This happened to me once, and ONLY once after using the phone for like 6 months. I soft reset and nothing happened.
There is something wrong with the way the device toggled the connection. Just replug and unplug and press play and pause on your video/music player. It should purge sooner or later.
You can also hard reset your device you will find that the problem will most likely purge.
@Charcobeans: Thanks, it worked within 5 seconds Thats just the instructions I searched for. Waggling around did not work, but more precise it was easy. Thanks!
I have an HTC Dream/G1 that's having a rather odd issue. When the screen is flipped open, it appears to behave exactly as it should. When the screen is closed however, the display becomes a mess of vertical lines (or sometimes just fades to black) and does not respond.
One need only "sleep" the phone and "wake" it after flipping the screen up to bring it back to normal operation. This only lasts until the phone is again closed. I've included a couple of screen captures to help illustrate the issue. I've searched and searched and found absolutely nothing about this problem anywhere.
I'm currently running Firmware 1.6, CyanogenMod-4.2.7.1 with Cyanogen recovery. Everything was working fine and the phone suffered no trauma prior to this issue presenting itself. It literally happened while the phone was sitting idle on a coffee table. I've tried reflashing the phone (including reverting to Dreaimg.nbh and starting "from scratch") to no avail.
It does not appear to be an issue with the ribbon cable (no amount of flexing the cable or moving the screen has any effect). The display behaves properly throughout its movement up until the exact point at which it switches to "closed" functionality (approximately 80% closed). It appears to be something related to the hardware after it switches to "closed mode". My shot-in-the-dark guess is some form of chip-failure related to the phone's orientation detection as the vertical lines do not change regardless of orientation or touch-input. Again, that is just a guess.
If no one here has any recommendations, I will likely perform exploratory surgery and barring any obvious hardware failures, will likely be forced to replace the phone. If I do manage to resolve the issue (with or without outside help) I will surely assemble a how-to so others may resolve the issue in the future.
Thank you everyone for your help and suggestions, and for existing in the first place. You are the reason technology is fun.
EDIT - As pjcforpres kindly pointed out, I neglected to include the fact that the display failure is present regardless of boot state. It behaves this way upon initial "G1 screen" boot and even in the recovery console. This is appears to be further support for the idea that it is indeed a hardware failure.

Does it do this while in recovery/boot loader as well? Is there anyway when closed to get it to work correctly?(I think your answer will be 'no' but just double checking)...
Oh wow, I can't believe I forgot to include that important bit of information. Yes, the phone behaves this way regardless of boot-state. Even with the initial "G1" screen displayed or in recovery mode, closing the screen brings about the display failure. No amount or configuration of screen or button operation seems to bring about the appropriate closed screen behavior. I will edit my original post with this information if I can. Thanks for looking and responding!
I didn't read your post
But my dads g1 did this.
It's a hardware ribbon, not software.
Go get a return or exchange for a new g1 because yours is defective.
That makes me think hardware then... not sure what though? Like you were saying, if there is an open/close switch of sorts that would be my bet. It could be the flex cable as well, and when it close that much it gets pinched, and happens to coincide with the orientation flip. But then it wouldn't take sleep and unsleep to go back right when opened, I would think... so we are back to it probably being the orientation sensor switch being funky like a monkey.
Well, I just tore it completely apart and put it back together to no avail. I made the assumption that the LCD flex cable was not the cause because of the behavior (only happening at a precise position, having to sleep then wake the phone to recover, etc...). It appears, however, that this assumption was incorrect. On Icebergxx's suggestion I decided to give it another look. I wedged a tool in against the cable and with various forceful flexing I can recreate the issue even with the screen fully extended. Luckily it appears the LCD flex cable is available on ebay for $24. Thank you so much for your responses. I'll dig around for a flex cable replacement guide, if a sufficient one does not yet exist, I will take the opportunity to share. Thanks again!
You're so handy its admirable haha good luck buddy glad to have helped.
Happy to hear it is just the flex cable! I was worried with the way it was acting it was something worse, just the whole not coming back to life when opened without sleeping then un-sleeping.
Hello,
Recently I sent my nexus one for a button replacement. I got the phone back with some strange symptoms:
- Flash light blink at random event (first boot, after I hang up a call, etc..) but cannot be controlled by software (torch and camera app in CM7, MIUI or the stock firmware). The camera however works fine.
- The ambient sensor is dead. It either reports a very high value (2600 or 5800) or a very low one (10) (these values were taken from the CM7 auto brightness adjustment settings)
- Mic from the headphone when I plug in does not work anymore (the mic works before and tested to be in working condition)
From some online research, it seems like a loose connector can cause the wonky flash light problem (report by fblodroid, he fixed it by plug the connector back)
http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Google+Mobile/thread?tid=46ef1e3a49030ed9&hl=en
My question is: can the other two problems be related to this connectors as well? Or did I get a defective board?
I plan to fix it once the tools arrives (dealextreme takes forever!). Another option is to bring it back to the service center to get fixed (this will take a week, and who knows what kind of fees on top of that). I'd prefer to fix it if I can.
Anyone has some knowledge about this kind of issue? Any idea what do those connectors do?

Dude, if your N1 is on warranty I wouldn't even bother to think what is causing this problems Send it back. You'd have o wait some time but you will still have your warranty for the future, and if you disassemble it you will probably loose it (not mentioning that your problem could be unfixable!).
They screwed up and they should fix it for free. I hate when electronics come back in worse condition after repair than before...
Well, it's out of warranty. But I think I have 3 months part warranty from the last repair.
They didn't put any seal on the screws this time. Maybe you're right, it's smarter to just send it back to get everything resolved.
I'm just curious whether all the problem described above can be attributed to the board they replaced (or one or two loose connectors).

I didn't know about the warranty, BUT: They spoiled your phone while fixing button so as a consumer you have right to demand that they fix it free of charge! Maybe it's something like silicon defect or "cold solder" (don't now if it's correct name. Google-Translated it) on the main board. They should have tried it before sending it to you.
Wish your N1 will get better soon
Hi you all!
Has the title says, sometimes a white glitch in the top appears, normally after a charge overnight just after I disconnect the device from charging. The problem in my urbane appeared after a forced update by adb sideload, don't know if it's due to that but I'm not sure until I hear other persons that made the same thing, adb sideload of course.
Anyway I'll probably gonna take it to warranty, cause I'm afraid it might be an hardware issue... :crying:
When I have some kind of an answer I'll give the feedback.
Already posted something similar in other thread ( " I've already done everything to the watch, unlocked bootloader, installed TWRP and also pushed by adb sideload the new version of Android wear, the bass version one (LCA44B) and all went fine.
Although I will going to take the Smartwatch to warranty, cause lately, not always, he's been doing a strange thing... After fully charged, the screen in top center, starts to blink (of White color), kind of a flat-tire inverted really strong like a flash! Obviously it's a glitch of some kind that affects the screen... Even with a reboot, he keeps doing it while booting... Lucky of me... Damned...")
The unique solution I've found was to switch of the device, not reboot, I must switch of the device or else it keeps doing it...
It only happened two times... But... Its f****d...
Edit. Posting some pics in a while...
Sorry by taking too long but here are the photos and video....

Yes, mine was very intermittent. It first happened after landing on a long flight... figured it was an air-pressure thing... it went away.
It was then intermittent / infrequent over the next month but last week it suddenly got a lot worse, and more frequent (i.e. all the time).
New video:
Contacted Amazon, and had a replacement delivered yesterday - so I've swapped it out for a new one - so far so good
