Do you have a 'flashing' addiction? - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV General

As like many here when a new cooked rom comes out we all rush to try it and see if its the 'best' one out..
So for a bit of fun I created this poll to see who's addicted to flashing their DT!
1. I never flash its rude!
2. I flash daily and I love it!
3. I flash sometimes when no one is looking!
Not technical enough to do a poll *lol*

Hi my names Trem and I am a flasher...
I am not totally mad for it, more like a 3 but I have ended up going to bed at 1am-2am in the morning after a couple of flashes and reinstalling apps.

I had a flashing addiction but then the police arrested me for it

I flash from time to time
Only if I have some problems with current ROM, or if new ROM version have a "must have" feature
Or if I f*kd up phone that badly, that flashing is the only option

Picture says it all

Flashing keeps me up at night
When I work nights, 1 week in 4, flashing and installing new apps helps me stay awake. I've already flashed 6 or 7 different ROMS plus every hardspl and radio. And I've only had the phone for 5 days.

Best Stable Rom

So I have been using T-mobile rom then I got bored and Started flashing it but seems like every rom I flashed my phone was either laggy or incomplete. So i wanted to know what is the most stable rom. I need some one who has been using the rom for atleast 3 months. I tried a few roms dont remember the name but after a day or two they just became slow or very laggy or incomplete. I ended up flashing back to the crappy t-mobile rom and once again im bored lol. Thanks
The one listed in my signature is the one I find the most stable and fast. However, this is usually just a matter of personal preference. The best thing to do is read up on the various ROMs listed and then try them to find one that suits your needs.
Ok guys this has been covered a hundred+ times, Custom roms are a personal choice and there is only "Best for me". What I may like in a rom is not what you may like. Best advise is to flash till you find one that suites you. Thread closed

[Q] Roms for the tilt 2 by htc

I have a tilt 2 with 8/30/2010 update n its suck i was wondering wats a good custom rom to use that dosent freezes up or runs super slow n were to download it at
We get at least a dozen new users asking this question every couple of weeks. The response is always the same. This is like asking a community of peers which pants are the most comfortable. It's a matter of opinion. Flashing doesn't harm your device at all (if you follow instructions), and it's simple to restore it to factory settings if you need to send it in for repairs or replacement. Therefore, with no downside to flashing ROMs, just keep flashing them until you find something you like.
Most ROM threads will tell you within the first couple of posts most of the goals of the ROM, and whether they are cooked for speed, looks, or stability. There are also pictures on most all of them so you can see it before you flash. Flashing takes minutes, so why not just spend a day or so testing a bunch of them out. I've been flashing for a long time and I still don't stick to just one ROM.

I got the same problem with this ROM from AT&T. I called HTC and they admit that there is a memory leak problem in the HTC Sense built into that version of the ROM. So does anyone have a ROM with a better (or later) HTC Sense that works, i.e. fast, no memory leak, and no lockup?
Thanks.
The best advice that can be given to those in your situation (besides HardSPL'ing your device) it to
1) Pick a ROM on this very board.
2) Flash it to your phone.
3) Use your phone.
4)
a) If you like it, then your problem is solved.
b) If you don't like it, do steps 1-3 until you get to step 4a)
Software Version 1.59.502.3
Will this new software version be a huge upgrade from my current version without losing any default features that I now have?
Consider using Wildchild's ROMs. They are pretty much stock look/feel, but faster and much more stable.

Yep. Bluetooth works great. Actually everything works great. Its a ROM where everything works as it should. Keep in mind, bloatware is removed, but all the core stuff works perfect.
Thanks - where is the best place to read up on with instructions on how to do this?
Try the flashing your first Rhodium ROM tutorial sticky.
Thanks - it appears there are several versions of the rom, so I have a lot of reading to figure out what the differences are.
Do you have any preference?

I use the 2.1 ROM from Wild Child and it is absolutely the best. Has everything I need and nothing I don't. It is fast, stable, in my mind, the way it should have been from the beginning. It is a rock solid ROM.
This is the one I was going to flash on my phone, but after hours of working on it with F2505x4 we could not get it to flash. There was an issue with the HardSPL. I ended up flashing the updated AT&T stock rom instead for now.

[Q] What is the best rom for captivate..

Hi all Thanks to all.... Newbie here with flashing and all so i just want to get started on the right track... being doing alot of reading just wanted to know what is the safest rom right now for the captivate....
also ive downloaded bay_wolfs AIO captivate tool ...if i use this tool i dont have to go through the the whole process of installing rom manager..zip files etc..do i if i read correctly..well thanks all in advance for the responses.....
It depends on What you want. For a really bare bones rom, use precision. For a close to stock rom, use cognition. For a well themed and polished rom, use serendipity or ultimate. Cognition is the only captivate based one though.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using Tapatalk
yeesh - sorry but most of these get locked in 10 posts or less as these become "My ROM is better than Your ROM" epeen arguments.
With that being said.. if a ROM is posted in the Dev forum and as long as it doesn't say Cyanogen Beta or Gingerbread alpha AOSP in it? It is pretty much safe to flash.
Most of these ROM's use either a Rogers, Captivate, or i9000 Source and don't deviate other than tweaks to apps/kernels/modems/lagfixes/themes.
If you want to be safe - I would go with Cognition as a first ROM flash then go from there. It is basically "stock".
Thanks guys for the quick posts....Just a little worried about doing it for the first time i have read, watched videos, this is why im asking before taking the plunge...
i really like Bay_wolfs tool seems great for newbies has anyone used it...i think i may go with cognition is there a better version than the 3.4 what i mean is the newest version seem best or and older one...
I also flashed my first ROM the other week after lots of reading and studying. I went with Andromeda 1.0 at and have since gone to 1.1. I didn't use the tool that you're wondering about, but have downloaded it for future use. So if you do use it, let me know how it goes for you. I went with the installation instrustions on Andromeda's website, and that worked flawlessly. Once you do decide on a ROM, I'm sure that you'll be extremely happy as the performance is way better than stock. Happy flashing and good luck!
Like the other posters said, it's all about what you want and then personal preference. Once you have flashed a few you will start realizing what you do and don't like about the ROMs and what you really want in them. (My first ROM I had no idea, I was like, lets just flash because it's cool and custom and I feel like it. Then I started noticing the differences between my first ROM and stock, realizing what they can actually do with it and what they cannot. From there I figured out what I was really looking for by going custom, and starting browsing the released ROMs to find it)
In short, your first ROM is just that, the first. It wont stay there long so it doesn't really matter which one you choose. Cognition, like stated above, is a good start because it's pretty close to stock. If you want to just straight into a very custom one and screw the baby steps, try something a little more feature rich. Eventually you will get into trying different ROMs with different kernels and test out over-clocking, etc...
I would recommend for your first that you don't go with an OC ROM though, save that for when you feel more comfortable with your ability to flash and tweak things.
I have never used the tool you are talking about because I feel more comfortable doing all the .zip stuff and seeing what is actually being done to my phone, not trusting something else to do it. The tools I do use are Odin3 and One Click Root/Unroot. If you want to try flashing without that tool but aren't sure of the exact steps or why they are necessary you can PM me and I'll help you out.
Welcome to the addiction of ROM flashing! (It's harder to shake then cigarettes once you start)
You guys are great here thanks for all the tips...tonight i will be flashing my first Rom hope all goes well if i have any questions i will ask...once again thanks...

Do not flash any of the Gingerbread ROMs unless you really know what you are doing. They are still unstable and you risk bricking your phone. As for stable ROMs, there's a wide variety of them, and they're all based on Android 2.2, which is really fast. There is no best ROM, and it all depends on your personal preferences. Try visiting a few of the ROM threads to check them out, and hopefully that will help you decide which one to flash.

I'm Building a ROM...but I have a problem!

Hi Guys!
I'm what you guys call "the new kid who want's to play". I have various experience in Android flashing and updating, but I still have none kind of experience in building a Custom ROM.
But I said: What the hell! Let's try it! So I took a quick lesson at Nokia7Vista's tutorial on Youtube. I don't know if I can post links, but you can find it if you want to.
Anyway, My first ROM booted, and was based on the contents of Deodexed JW1. It has only some apps included, so no big deal here. But I wanted some experience before I get to the real thing.
OK, so I finished that, and I got to the real business:
I've started searching some of the best Custom ROM's out there. I found OserX's One, GalaxyDroid and S.U.R.F.A.C.E to meet my likes. I inspired myself from there (downloaded the 3) and took some apps, system tweaks, etc from them. OserX is JVZ, the other 2 are JW1. My ROM Was based on JW1 and was Odexed (like OserX and Surface). From what I know, JVZ and JW1 are pretty much the same ROM. Still, I didn't took anything from there but apps.
I've changed my drivers to the Nexus S drivers, and the framework-res.apk to get a CRT-on/off effect (Downloaded from this site, it's for JW1).
Basically, I did some mod's that everyone has did before. Still, when I flash the ROM, it get's stuck at the Galaxy S LOGO, (not bootanimation).
What should I do? What can be the cause of this?
Thanks...
Still no answer...
Now I understand the n00bs that post in the Development Section. Here no one f(^&&^5ing listen...
And I am no N00b, I'm just new to Custom ROM's ...I've posted to the right section, and still...no answer after a couple of days! That sucks!
Try sending a pm to one of those developers.
I've never created a Android ROM (although I used to on WM6.5).
The biggest advice that I can give to you is to go slow: Try to create a ROM in small steps - one change at a time. Very ften you'll find out that two apps supposedly working ok are incompatible with each other. The same applies to drivers and changes alike. So, if version 0.01 works and 0.02 don't, it's just a matter of see what's changed and try to figure why that change caused the new ROM to stop working.
I also agree with Valinorian - try PM experienced developers - we all walked that path already. But please: one change at a time.

[q] not a single good rom ?

IS there any good roms for this phone seriously ?
every rom i try has alot of bugs and problems and devs release updates every 6 months and most of them drop the development for the phone anyway
i cant find a single rom that combines performance with battery without sacrificing the LED notification abilities !!!
I've seen comments saying "the best rom" in every rom OP
If 'you' don't like it, it's your view. But don't ask for the best rom as its a violation of xda rules. I hope you get my point and I'm not being rude.
There are many great roms out there, try them for a week or so and then see what's good and what's not, help the dev by reviewing it honestly(not being biased like 'this rom is nothing like xyz rom') this way the dev will help you get a better rom.

First off - respect others work. Everyone puts a lot of effort in the ROMs.
1. The ROMs for SP are nearly bugless, only stock based ROMs have stock Sony bugs.
2. Of course - updates are released every 6 months - how is that possible if PA, AOKP, PAC, FXP CM are weekly-built, and we also have daily-built CM nightlies. Also who dropped support for a ROM? Last time it happened for OmniROM. After that no one dropped ROM support.
3. All ROMs for SP are nearly on par when it comes to battery and performance.
4. You can get the illumination bar features with Illumination Reciever + Illumination Bar Notification apps
5. Why do you put these exclamation marks in your sentences?
try PA or PAC, smooth, fast , great battery life and stable
2 words: thread reported
please respect the work of others and be patient
Also according to the XDA Rules asking for "What is the best ROM" is not allowed here
~~ Regards
hahahahaha you people are being aggressive and rude and i didnt say the "Best" anywhere i said a good rom
and no there are no good roms and i have used every single rom in the development thread and i know every developer and because i respect them i didnt mention their names but i know everyone who doesnt release a single update and leaves the rom to rot or just drops the whole development
everyone is just sensetive when it comes to respecting developers

4. Okay, I can agree, but it's proprietary Sony technology so it can't really be used in CM without weird tricks.
3.Stock is pretty fast starting from .205 update. Eat battery? It depends on that how you flash the ROM, I can easily get 3-4+ hours screen on time.
2. I won't even comment about that, your ignorance totally killed me.
1.FC Festive? Custom ROMs based on AOSP are way stabler than stock ROMs.

I tried AOKP, PAC, PA, CM10.2, CM11, Stock odexed and deodexed, and also ExistenZ from the first version(based on 4.1.2). So yeah, I didn't try them.
Well, looking at your posts I thought you were dirty flashing from stock to CM11 and other ROMs, because with your issues it's impossible that you clean flashed everything.
And about the developers and their work - they can't do that, why? Because people like you will complain about no updates, bugs and no support...

Well, you wrote the correct steps earlier, but you didn't include formatting /system, so in the flashing process some files were left intact thanks by updater-script backuptool.
Anyway, it's not just about the correct or incorrect way. It just seems like a user mistake for me...
Let's end this discussion now, I don't want to fight with anyone about why custom ROMs on their phones perform worse than for happy majority.

Wiping battery stats is completely useless step.
Yes, happy majority on(for example) CM/PA/PAC that enjoys the smoothness, stability and battery life of these ROMs(ofc you will argue about that these ROMs have no updates, no support, ppor battery life and performance, but as I said, the discussion about that is ended).

I dont even know why we are wasting our time on you...Pls buy another phone, leave us alone. However, I doubt that even the note 3 will be good for you,as you are lost in space and time.eXistenz was updated 1/7/2014,that was 1 month and almost 2 weeks ago,not 3 months. The reason it wasnt updated is that there is no reason for it to be updated at the moment. The illusion that you put yourself in is false and broken,as only ROMs which arent complete need updates every day,or if they added new features. All stock based roms give you the latest SONY UI,and if you dont like them,SONY isnt the right company for you.None of us notice lag on it,or on any custom rom.I dont know what your complex brain expects from a phone this good.If you arent satisfied, try unlocking the bootloader, and installing FXPCM11,that rom is blazing fast, but the bootloader unlock is the price for it.I am honestly using NexusCM11,and it is fast and smooth as butter.try following install instructions completely, and the ROMs wont lag.You cant just pop a thread, with a goal of insulting people who do much more for their property than you.If you think they all suck, you can make one yourself,so we can admire your ambitions. But the bigger chance is simply that you can not be satisfied, even if someone gave you a xperia z2/galaxy s5/note 3 or the lg g3.You would always complain. But I have an idea!
