my screen seems to randomly turn itself on and off during calls and I sometimes press a few buttons and even close the call. and it's a bit embarrassing to admit that my phone has a problem. does anyone have a fix for it? I'm currently on jpk
end calls should not happen
the proximity sensor automatically turns off the screen to prevent accidental touch to the buttons
it takes about 1/2 second to react
if you talk normally it should never light up for you to accidentally touch the buttons
but if you keep checking why the screen is on/off on/off
that will drive the screen / sensor crazy
it was like that for me the first day
i was rather annoyed that the screen always turned off, i wanted to disable that feature, but now that i got used to it i find it rather useful to prevent accidental drop calls
personally i browse and write notes a lot during a phone call to look up info and take down customer orders
so having the screen on/off automatically was a pain in the royal highness, but i found a great solution
switch to BT headset whenever i need to check for info and browse on the phone, then it wont go on/off automtically as it's not near my face
thanks for the info!
This is a very common problem caused by positioning sensor overriding proximity sensor when the phone is placed horizontally or close to it. So if you tilt your head during a call the screen will turn on and you could disconnect/place on hold etc. I saw this feature/feature was fixed for other devices by adding an option to disable positioning sensor in calls (changing dialer.apk file), but could not find anything for i9000

I know my wife's hero is not natively designed to behave like my EVO in regards to in-call sleeping/waking of the display screen but I wondered if there is an app or hack available?
My phone shuts off the screen when I hold it up to my ear (talking on the phone) and when I lower it during a call to say, enter a PIN number or "choose 1 for English" the screen wakes up and allows to to do what I want, and then shuts off again once it is held up to my ear.
The wife's Hero does not know when the phone is up to her ear, and the display simply times out based on the time-out setting. When she lowers the phone to "choose 1 for English" she has to hit the menu button first to wake the display.
Is there a hack or app (other that the "proximity sensor app" that uses the light sensor) that uses the G sensor to turn the display on/off during calls?
Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks!
Ok... I've tried my best to comb through the forum, but no one seems to have this issue.
Whenever someone calls me, and after I pick the call up, the dialer would disappear into a black screen upon my touching the screen. And when I lift it, it would appear again, but disappear when I press my finger. This has happened several times over the last 2 months. Sometimes it will happen when I make a call as well.
I have noticed that it happens with or without a screen protector.
Is there a solution to this? Thanks.
The proximity sensor is at The Top right of the screen next to the front camera. It turns the screen off when it detects the phone is at The side of your face, so you don't press buttons during your call.
If your holding your phone upright and your finger covers the proximity sensor during a call it will do the same thing. Just make sure you keep your fingers away from the sensor during a call.
I'm pretty sure the sensor is disabled if the phone is laying horizontal, but not 100% on this.
The sensor also does other cool things, for example, if you use your phone as an alarm, no need to deal with the snooze button, just put the phone face down and it will snooze.

I thought that was the case, but I have been using it (on speaker) away from my face and hands.
Perhaps I should pay more attention to this function before my next post.
Hi guys,
I have been facing this problem (i think) and i would like to know if its normal.
Autofocus works
Focusing is good and fast.
But when ever i touch to focus on something it makes a tiny rattling sound like (TICK) and then focuses on the object.
Its like the sound of a watch doing 1 second tick... Except its a bit louder.
Normally this happens in phones with OIS but PLAY doesnt have OIS...
Also if i tap the camera on the backside (slight tapping), it makes this noise which is easily audible. The same tick sound can be heard if i tap anywhere on the back panel of the phone.
Is this normal or should i take it to SVC?
P.S No noise when camera focuses on its own, the tick sound is only heard when i focus on any object and change from back cam to front cam.
I have the exact same issue
Hi
I've found myself in the exact same situation as this one. The camera in the honor play makes a "tick" noise as in a louder clock's ticking sound every time I manually refocus the camera. There's also the added noise of the above said sound when I tap on the back of the phone. If anyone has any update on this please share so I'd be at peace right now. Thanks.
1. Ghost touches
Problem:
Random ghost touched when using nfc or when nfc is on (on versions after 9.5.1)
Solution:
Turn off nfc, turn on only when needed
2. Echo during phone calls
Problem:
During phone calls people (on the other end) hear echo of our voice
Solution:
Turn volume down by at least 1 step. Microphone positioned on top of the device can capture speaker output.
3. Double tap to wake not working
Problem:
Phone won't wake up when using double tap

Issue only happens when ambient display / single touch / wake up screen with incoming notifications are enabled.
Current fix would be disabling ambient display and using double tap to wake up from quick gesture settings instead.

If i missed anything please leave a comment, thanks
My RCS is broken. Also have issues with the echoing but will try the fix you posted.
Only random thing I've noticed is Bluetooth calls suck badly yet the audio it's crystal clear. Tried a few car radios and also headsets and it's only calls. Take it off Bluetooth and it's crystal clear on the phone or phone speakers. It's actually driving me nuts

My 7 Pro sometimes rotate on the lockscreen, and then it's giving me this look.
Also, when I receive a notification, I only get a very tiny and quick vibration, even though I turned on the Strong vibration for notifications in settings.
Anyone else noticed that?
Google DUO
Either freezes or is Laggy AF all other video apps work so may be a Google issue but before it was flawless on my Pixel 3XL
Fix for
4. Blank screen. Missing icons when unlocking.

What about this? In support and troubleshooting page in oneplus community we have to apply for after sales service.

Does your usage differ from a regular smartphone user, like using custom launcher or any mods or developer settings?
Never heard of lockscreen rotation bug, but i read about ambient notifications being very fast, too quick to notice. As it turned out, animation scaling/speed in developer settings were changed to 0.5/veryfast, maybe they're connected with length of vibration in some way?

Thanks! Main post updated
Edit:
Added new solution to problems with ambient display - some people turn off/modify animations speed in developer settings.
I was having the screen blank after unlocking issue and followed your advice and issue gone.
Thanks!!!
I'm getting black crush on dark scenes on YouTube and netflix
Just an FYI, the solution you listed for Problem 3 no longer works. After upgrading to OS 9.5.8 the proximity sensor can't be calibrated using the method in your linked thread.

Guys i have a strange things with the virtual buttons (when you can see the buttons on the screen) It is not OnePlus related, my wife Samsung S9+ with Android P do the same problem that is why i think this is an Android P feature or bug or i dont't know, but would like to switch it off
So.
Try to do the next: Open the settings, go to any sub-menu. Press the back button but swipe it when pressing. What happens? Nothing. The button is flashing so the system is recognished your touch. If you press the back, menu or home buttons while swipe just a little bit, the function of the key doesn't work. Just if press and release it immediately without any left or right moving. Of course it happened under all apps like Chrome.... I used to press the back button with swipe because my fingers used this method and on my OP3T phone has phishical buttons so the swipe wasn't a problem. But now it is hard to just press and release.
So anybody has any idea where or how can i switch this gestures off? Of course i didn't found any setup options in the setup/buttons/gestures part
Thanks
