After being in my pocket for some time, there is a rainbow effect on the screen. I can change the location of this effect if I push elsewhere on the screen; however, it seems to concentrate itself right in the center. It has no ill-effect on the touch screen but it is visible under certain angles when the screen is on. I am using the screen protector that came with it. After some time being out of my pocket it dissipates and looks normal.
Anyone else experience anything like this?

Yeah, I have.. I haven't noticed it's touch sensitive, but I've seen the problem while rebooting and also randomly while using the phone.. And it seems like for me the screen gets progressively worse and starts losing all contrast and fades to white. A reboot always fixes it.
My guess is something in the video drivers flips out. But the first time I saw it I thought I had a hardware problem because I found it that way in the morning out of the blue, but I guess it had started doing it 'itself' overnight or something.

I dont think it has anything to do with the screen itself. But the digitizer and the multiple layers on top of the screen that the digitizer is composed of.
Newton's rings isn't it?

Yes that is exactly it - the diffraction of light between 2 surfaces, is it normal; however?
Thanks!

Nooo, then maybe what I'm talking about is different. I'm talking crazy screen, weird 'rippling' going on, screen slowly turns more and more white. I know what newtons rings are.. It's sorta visible in sunlight.
So perhaps I'm describing a different issue. Mine is definitely something with the phone, not the layers.

Hello, I've had my diamond about a week, looked after it, no physical damage to it as far as i noticed...
but just been browsing and notice a small line about 1cm long across the screen only visible on light background, rainbow coloured. would this be a scratch underneath the screen? i dont feel any roughness on the outer screen. how would this happen, any solutions? cheers.

Same here...
Thats a fault with the screen, I work for a big TV company and that is the most common fault we see in our service centre! is it a green line? if so then its probably some dust on an internal connector, According to our engineers its easy to fix but invoves taking the whole screen off!
(this is how it works with TV's im pretty sure its the same with a phone screen!)
That's funny, I recently noticed the exact same kind of scratch on mine.
I can only tell with a white background though...
That happened to me aswell. Just do a soft reset, it worked for me .

We're not talking about the same thing here.
In my case, it's clearly a scratch considering I can see it with the device turned OFF under the right lighting conditions (and at a certain angle).
I can't tell if it's the screen protection or the actual screen that's damaged though and I don't really care to try to find out
Recently, I noticed the is a strange circle in the middle of the screen. When the screen backlight is off, it appears as a black circle. When the screen backlight is on, it appears as red/yellow/black ring. Somtimes it went away by itself, and other time I have to "wipe" it away with finger force.
Anyone know what is wrong?
2 questions
1) Have you tried removing the screen protection just to see whether its on the screen protection or on the main lcd screen
2) did you ever exposed lcd it to high electromagnetic waves??
1. I didn't remove the screen protector as I believe it's beneath the LCD film.
2. I don't think it has been exposed to any electromagnetic waves, as it appears after I pulled it out from my pocket.
I've had it too but it's gone now
I had the exact same problem a few weeks ago. The place I stayed was not well ventilated and I THINK it caused some water condensation to occur between the digitizer and lcd screen. I slept in an air-conditioned room the next day and it was gone!
My deduction is that you need a cool or cold environment for the stain to evaporate.
The same problem arises again, and this time it has been a couple days but it still did not go away.
It looks almost like a burn mark.
You may have a defective digitizer.
Found another thread talking about this:

This is the so-called 'Newton ring' in optics/Physics. It means that in that area, the thickness of LCD is slightly thicker/thinner than rest of the area. This is normally due to stress at that point. It is annoying but if there are no repeated color rings, like red/yellow/blue/red/yellow/blue, it should be fine. If you have alot of repeated color rings, the LCD may approach its life end.

Thanks for the info. When you said it should be fine, do you mean it will disappear, or it just won't affect usability?
It may disappear if the stress is released, e.g., you push the area a bit or you put it into different temperature environment. But I doubt it will disappear for ever. It was not there in the first place then it came. This means some sort of stress/pressure built up there. It should not affect your daily use a lot. It is just a visual effect. But if it gets worse, the colour rings will become very dense and sharp. It will affect you visual. I had a phone pinged on LCD sometime ago. It had similar rings like yours. But it was so dense I could not see any thing behind it. I had to change it for £35.
Also I looked at another previous comment about the humidity. It could give you the same effect. Maybe you can bake your phone a bit?
Hey guys. By now, I'm sure most of you are probably familiar with the screen alignment issue (where, sometimes when you go to click on something, it clicks something above or below and is about 1/3 of an inch off).
Well, I've noticed something on my device and was wondering if anybody else has had the same experience. If I have the screen brightness all the way down, I can use the screen for quite some time before this happens. Then, I just hit the power button, put it to sleep, and then wake it back up and the problems corrected. What's weird is, if I have the brightness all the way up (like when I'm outside on a sunny day), it takes far less time for the misalignment issue to show it's ugly face.
Basically, what this says to me is that it might be related to a heat issue from the screen itself. Just wondering what everybody else has noticed.

Yes I have notice it too with the same setting but didn't think much of it and just put it to sleep and woke it up and worked after that.
dont know if its a heat issue, my phone is always on 0% brightness and it still randomly happens.
Hi i saw a couple of days ago that my N1 do something odd when turning the screen to sleep mode, sometimes (not always) some thick and soft colored lines (light green or light red) appear and dissappear VERY quickly in the bottom of the screen... is this a normal behavior? Whut should i check to see if my screen is going to fail?
my screen works perfectly but... i really dont like this behavior
I have seen that too a few times; just don't give it too much importance.
Hey Fran!
I see you are latin american just like me!
If you like, you can ask for me messenger so we can chat about cellphones
Dude, im a little paranoic, does this happens very often to you?
have anyone faced this trouble too?
I just noticed this same thing last night. it happens maybe once every 6 times you turn off the screen. it happens on the bottom part of the screen.
however one observation, this does NOT happen if you are viewing the lock screen and then turn off the screen. it only happens when viewing the homescreen, or web browser, etc.
so because of this fact, it doesn't happen all the time, nor on every screen, so that tells me it might be some type of software glitch or power glitch. I don't think this means our screens are failing.
this is a VERY difficult issue to notice.
Thanks for answering Roger!
Im a little bit uncomfortable with this issue because it makes me think that my phone's screen will stop working any time... i may say that i have noticed that this is happening more often now than before...
I hope im just being paranoic about this!!
Looks as if I'm going to have to join the return game on this device. I've been a very happy TF700 owner on CROMi-X for the last year and still had that WOW effect when I started playing with this tablet.
Until it got dark.... I mean - the attached picture is with the tablet in sleep mode!!!!! That's gotta suck the battery dry like nothing.....
Opened a ticket with Asus for what it's worth...
I'm going to update to 4.3 manually, but don't expect that'll do much.
Does anybody have something similar?
Edit: After about an hour of reading the screen dimmed and had dark shadows on both sides. I flashed the 4.3 update manually since the System Update wouldn't - now everything seems to be fine.
Light bleed gone when in sleep mode and no shadows either... ?????????
Weird, glad you got it sorted out.

Wow - good outcome - never seen anything like that - keep your eyes on it obviously

Unfortunately it's not resolved to the point that I feel confident to unlock.
I still have have weird and uneven dimming of the screen. Sometimes just part of the screen dims and shows a dark, uneven shadow across it (in reading mode). What I don't understand is, taking a screen shot in that situation shows nothing of the shadow....??
What I consistently see is when the screen times out, it dims just before it turns off, but only on part of the screen (more or less the left half, but fading out from left to right).
Smart Saving is off.. Can't think of anything else to try...
I'd hate to return it, but I think I'll have to - this does not inspire confidence....

Smart saving has nothing to do with smart dimming unfortunately. You can only turn smart dimming off if you are rooted. I'd take it back and get a replacement as what you are seeing is not normal.

Never seen this on any tablet.
To me it seems that some parts of the Led backlight are not working correct or totally not.
Better try to get it swapped or Rma'd ASAP.
R.I.P
I was filling out the Amazon return form and picked it up 'cause I got a notification about new mail - and that's when the digitizer gave up completely.
I was able to wipe my data by hooking it up to the TV and got it to reset with a lot of huntin' and pecking.
A replacement is on it's way. You gotta love Amazon :cyclops:
