Upgrade from WM 6 to WM 6.1 - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

Hello,
Is there a wiki on how to upgrade from WM 6 to WM 6.1? (On a Kaiser).
Also, will it improve something on the Pocket PC?
Thanks!

No, other than the Kaiser upgrading Wiki maybe, but that mostly is about flashing.
With 6.1, you get a few new features, such as threaded SMS, a somewhat faster startup speed, and that's about all I can think of off the top of my head.
but, nearly every rom is 6.1 nowadays, so you might as well

Just the same process as flashing any wm6 rom really... If this is your first flash then read up on this in detail before attempting to do so.
Other than that it's pretty straight forward. I upgraded my SPL to 3.28 first (see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=396922) then upgraded to a WM6.1 rom.
Hope this helps

2 threads with the same name? WTF, can't you ask 2 questions in the same lame thread?

WM6.1 fav people problems

Alrighty I was really holding out on upgrading to 6.1, but this past weekend I took the dive and flashed my ROM even though I have heard that there was alot of bugs in it. The problem that I am having is that when I have my favorite people set on the HTC home screen that comes with it, the contacts on that list disappear at least once a day. Then I have to go back and set the fav list all over again. I thought it was because of icontact that I have installed, so I took it off. But the problem still occurs. Could this be becuase I loaded it without the bloatware? Any tips on how to fix this?
Another question that I have is that why doesn't the 6.1 upgrade look like the 6.1 on the microsoft website? With the new today screen.
And my last question is if I downgrade back to the original HTC rom that I had version 1.62.502.0 would there be any problems? That one was more consistent for me and I didn't have any problems. And I think I could live without the threaded text messaging. Thanks for reading and thanks for your future help.

of what i've heard that today screen is for Windows Mobile 6.1 Home? (or whatever the basic one is called) not Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional
ohh thanks I didn't know that there was 2 versions. I thought you could pick that today screen in the settings if you wanted too.
Are you using Dutty's WM6.1 ROM?
If so it is a known issue: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=DuttySeriesKaiser
You could try this fix, or look for a newer version of the HTC Home CAB.

Dave
I upgraded using the 6.1 ROM from the HTC website.
Whats your take on Dutty's 6.1 ROM pros? cons?
If I downgrade back to version 1.62.502.0 WM6.0 do you think that I would run into any problems doing that?

No problems with the downgrade.
Dutty's ROM's are good, but sadly he now cooks for the Diamond, so no updates coming.
Try a new HTC Home Plugin CAB, do a search and see what versions are out there, and try upgrading.
I'd also suggest a Cooked ROM rather than the stock ones. Give it a try, you'll never go back

the poster was referring to the today screen shown on the windows mobile site.
if we upgrade our firmware on the kaiser or tilt we will not have that because that is an example of the windows mobile 6.1 for different phones. At least that's what i heard.

WM 6.5 or 6.1

Hi,
i have been verry happy with my MDAII with one of the original german 1.72 ROMs, but as more and more tools seem only to run from 5.0+ i think the time has come to update.
So, as a noob, the question for me is: Use an 6.1 rom(which then?) or go straight to 6.5? What would you recommend regarding performance, stability, usability and program support... WWE or german would be fine for me.
Until now is used my hima basically as phone(profiles with PocketZenPhone), navigation(tomtom) and other gsp gimmicks (using gspgate) and to schedule my appointments/task(pocket informant).
Thanks for any help,-)
Frank
P.S.: From the look i would chose 6.5 but it seems like Spb Mobile Shell would allow such things also on 6.1 ???
First make sure you have a copy of your original rom,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=510675
then you can test yourself.
Normally you can switch back and forth, as you like to.
Everything you need is in this forum, read ask the search button and use your brainpower!
UH, mystic!
Ups, I'm Senior now?!?

WM6.1 vs WM6.5

I have tried many ROM's based on WM6.1 and 6.5 with my both my Blackstone and Kaiser.
For me, and this is my personal preference, I prefer WM6.1.
I am probably in the minority on this.
Everyone looks for something different in a ROM.
So, which is the best ROM depends on who you ask,
and how you use your phone.
For my Blackstone, I find L26_THDV3.55_Rhodium_WWE_Ultimate
is the best one for me.
For my Kaiser, HyperDragon_IV_IOLITE_WWE_20090204
Both are 6.1 ROM's.
We now have Hard-SPL. Thanks to all involved.
There are a couple of WM6.5 ROM's out, but posts show bugs,
which are being worked on by the chefs.
I am currently running the stock 6.1 on it, as most of us are
and it runs fine, but I am sure it could be better.
Is anyone going to be cooking a 6.1 ROM for the Rhodium?

Yeah, I prefer WM6.1 over WM6.5, too! And yes, I'm cooking with WM6.1 and Multilang!
so for a winmo newbie what is main benefits of running 6.5?

That is a decision you have to make.
Read through the posts on 6.5 ROM's and see if you prefer
the features and the user interface.

i'm loving the Tricolor [Albino] Red 6.1, that was my vision.......
i've had to go back to Leo's 3.55, so as i can start on the theme fixes tho,
this being so i don't need to flash each color, i can just install/uninstall each of the colors.....
but i'll be going back
I prefer 6.5, so I'm waiting for the first (mostly) bug-free 6.5 rom
I too am waiting for a solid 6.5, I like the finger friendliness of the 6.5.
But what is even better is TF 2.5 or 2.6, I have it on my HD and it is laid out so well that it doesn't matter if you have 6.1 or 6.5. you really don't need to leave touch flo.
I'm not seeing any benefits of 6.5 yet.
6.1 with Manila 2.5 (or 2.6 ) would be my preference for now, at least until 6.5 matures a bit.
Whew, thought I was the only one.

Agreed totally on this, 6.1 with manila 2.6 would be perfect
I did the 6.5 thing for almost a week and had to go back to 6.1. I don't know just something about it wasn't right.

Agreed, I just prefer 6.1. Tried 6.5 for about three days. Had to flash back (this was on Blackstone and Xperia)
I have been using 6.5 since today, and I have to say I like it. The menu fonts are larger and more finger-friendly. Today page and Start Menu are quite nice too, they just look better than the old ones. It runs very smooth, and especially wi-fi seems to connect quicker than the original ROM.
I'll be trying another 6.5 ROM with manilla 2.6 as soon as it comes out, can't wait!
The official 6.5 on this forum is significantly faster/more stable than the stock 6.1. I imagine these things have more to do with how well the ROM is cooked than 6.1/6.5 issues.
6.5 wins hands down. It has smoother finger scrolling, you can finger scroll within a drop-down list box and you can move sms messages from the threaded view into folders. These aren't possible in 6.1.
The Lock Screen is also excellent, and removes the need for S2U2.
I ran multiple 6.1 and 6.5 cooked roms on my excalibur. 6.5 is significantly faster, period. I am waiting a week or three until the TP2 builds becomes a little more stable before I flash off the stock rom but it will be to a 6.5.
I really hope there is a stable manilla 2.5 or 2.6 build soon... saw the vid of 2.6 on engadget and was blown away.
c.r.u.i.s.e released a 6.1 ROM, but it is Italian, so I haven't tried it.
Have tried the latest Energy ROM(August 21),
which is 6.5 and it is certainly fast.
Has a lot programs preloaded that I will never use.
At0mAng is releasing a 6.5 over the weekend.
She makes cleaner ROM's and I will certainly try it.
this is my first true experience with wm6.1 .
before this i had a samsung blackjack =x that i flashed 6.1 onto.
i enjoyed it but it was slow and pales in comparison to the TP2 with 6.1 .
i cant wait to get a stable release to find all the marvels of 6.5 .
Stock ROM is still fine for rhodium. Its the first time i like a stock rom on a WM device, and I am a real flashing freak on all my other devices.
forgive the newbie post but...
what is manila? and I can't find any zoom for IE in the 6.5 I downloaded. Is there a zoom on IE in the stock 6.1? I have a htc touch pro 2.

Windows 6.1 to 6.5

Okay, I searched and searched and I couldn't find a good solid answer.
I have Windows 6.1 Professional on my Tilt with Shifu's v19 ROM. I want to know if it's possible to flash a Windows 6.5 cooked ROM onto my phone.
Thanks in advance to a post I missed or any help.
daaaaayyummmm duuuuuddddeeee!!!
no need to search! isn't the ENTIRE Kaiser ROM Development section solid enough proof for you that 6.5 is possible and indeed a reality for quite a few Kaiser users on this forum?
Lol. Dude I'm completely new to this. I thought maybe if your phone came with 6.1, you could only use 6.1 ROMs.
I kinda feel dumb now.
huh? ummm the Kaiser was officially/originally released with WM6.0. people were flashing cooked WM6.1 before HTC released their own official WM6.1 update. WM6.5 will never officially come for the Kaiser. your phone already has a cooked ROM, certainly HTC didn't put it on there and you'll find all the ROMs, resources, and tutorials right here by searching to get a cooked WM6.5 on your phone, just like someone originally went through the same process to put the cooked WM6.1 you have on your device right now.
WM6.5 is an EVOLUTION of WM6.1 and so your device sees it no differently. typically, your upgrade paths become limited at best ONLY when a drastically different OS is released (such as the upcoming WM7, which will likely NOT run at all on the Kaiser, or Google's Android, for which you have to jump through quite a few hoops to get it working on your Kaiser).
for suggestions of good WM6.5 ROMs, see my signature. alternatively, it is better to read up about all the ROMs that seem interesting to YOU and try them out until you find one that works well for your purposes.
Ah okay. I put the existing ROM on there btw lol. I taught myself how to flash them, I just didn't know the details. Thanks for that explanation though. It really helped. That definitely broadens my variety lol.
well then you're half way there!
just be sure to read the FAQ of the particular WM6.5 ROM you pick. the flashing procedure for WM6.5 is pretty much the same as what you have taught yourself for WM6.1 except for a few subtle precautionary steps and changes in the sequence of steps (that don't take much time to execute and will likely save you unnecessary trouble down the road). once again, be sure to read the FAQ to understand the steps i'm talking about.
finally, you should also know that it is completely possible to move from WM6.5 to WM6.1 or even back to WM6.0 and then back to WM6.1 or WM6.5 or what have you, just as long as you follow the steps and satisfy the constraints (matching the radio, matching the SPL, etc, etc).
Thanks again. I appreciate everything. You were 100% helpful.

I have TPC's 6.5 on my Tilt. Works great. One tip, no matter who's ROM you choose, use the cleanest version you can. I'm using TPC's Chump version. 6.5 wasn't designed for the smaller memory of the Tilt. A loaded ROM version uses up too much memory and leaves very little for apps. I use SPB Mobile Shell. It wouldn't install with the loaded TPC ROM.

Tilt 2 WM 6.1

Can anyone suggest a good WM 6.1 ROM for my Tilt 2. I'm not happy with WM 6.5's memory management and would like to downgrade.
Thank You
I'd like a good simple 6.1 Rom for my Tilt 2 as well. 6.5 doesn't play well with SPB Diary. I dont like the finger friendly interface either, I like having more on my screen at once.
Please have a look and a search for 6.1 ROM's.
There are still a few about from the Old days.
Thread closed, not related to ROM development.
Thanks
Dave
