No official WM06 upgrade from HTC

Hiya
Sorry if this was already common knowledge but the article about a WM06 upgrade for the HTC3300 led me to contact HTC it see if one was due soon for the HTC3600 / trinity
The response below is disappointing to say the least :-(

The P3600 is an HTC Branded device, they should at least get one consistant answer

I have to say that the d810 update was made by DopDop and not by HTC. That's why there is a WM6 vertion for DopDop.

No, Orange did not sell the wizard as Qtek 9100. It was sold as SPV M3000.
SPV is Orange's Brand for HTC phones.
That was in the past. In the future, Orange will not personalize HTC phones anymore. They will be sold as HTC, just like the plain unbranded phones.
As far as Dopod and HTC are concerned, I think the problem is different. Obviously Dopod BELONGS to HTC.
That's why there isn't any dopod's support website anymore, and Dopod customers must download their updates directly from HTC website!
So HTC has got the responsibility of the Dopod rom and make the support for it.
SPV roms are downloadable from Orange websites, not from Qtek or HTC one.
HTC gives NO support to SPV (Orange) roms and takes no responsibiliy about them.
You cannot compare the two cases.
HTC is fooling people around, because DOPOD = HTC. It's just that they don't want to give wm6 to Western customers!!

Hi everyone,
I have downloaded the Rom from the HTC Australian website but it will not complete the Rom upgrade on my P3600, I keep getting an error message saying ‘update error’ (Error 286). I have tried the suggested solutions like soft reset and taking out the battery but the error message keeps coming up after several attempts.
Any suggestions?

You should take the SPL/IPL out of that ROM, this is why you can't install it, it is protected to install only on dopod's phones.
You sould, first of all install a hard SPL on your phone to prevent bricking it.

Thaanks for your suggestions. if I understaood properly: I deleted the file (SPL.nbh) from the rom folder, i installed the files called hardspl_120.zip) and (Hard-SPL_ZakMcRofl.zip) to my device P3600. but, the error message keeps coming up just as the rom update reaches 28%.

If you still having this kind of problem, it means your device is not CID unlock yet.
The Hard SPL you should install are not those (I don't know which file you are refering to). Check out this Trinty upgrade thread, there should be Hard SPL Olipro or Des available. These are the ones you should install.
I'm afraid the ROM you are trying to install still have some kind of protection too. On this site, you'll find Dopod ROM, without IPL/SPL, try to install that one. this is what I did, and I never had any 28% error.

Massive Battery Drain with o2's official WM6.1

I've got a 02 xda Stellar. I just recently flashed it with o2's official WM6.1 Rom, but noticed my battery does not last as long as it used to. I did flash it when the battery was FULL, has anybody else had the same problem. I dont want to flash it with a cooked wrong really because of the warranty.
Any other suggestions anyone? or can someone suggest a WM6.1 cooked rom which has got good battery life.

If their WM 6.1 ROM is anything like the HTC original branded upgrade, since forst releasing a WM 6.1 upgrade ROM, they may have sneaked in a newer revised version with better Radio. What are the ROM and Radio versions (listed in settings/device version tab) on your device and when did you download the package from the internet?

I downloaded it on Sun 6th June
It is WM6.1 PRO CE OS 5.2.19212 (Build 19212.1.0.03)
ROM Ver 3.29.206.0 WWE
Radio Ver 1.65.16.25
It says Rom Date: 09/05/08 (9th May 08)

Have you checked to see if a slightly newer version is now available (HTCs original WM 6.1 ROM upgrade was out for just a few weeks before they upgraded the upgrade - and didn't tell anyone about it). Sorry but I don't have a Stellar so can't comment with experience about one of those but my battery life on the first WM 6.1 update seemed quite similar to under WM 6.0. Did you hard reset after the ROM update?

No mate havent checked HTC website if a newer version is available. HTC site will not recognise my serial number either but 02 website does. How do you hard Reset? Cheers

I meant checking with O2 actually - their may be a slight difference in the file name available for download now.
A hard reset should be explained in your manual but if you cant find that section you need to back up anything you don't want lost from the phone (and remove the storage card). Than all you need to do is follow the instructions you get when you tap on the settings => system => clear storage icon and after a few mins and some configurations/screen adjustment you'll be back with 'original' settings.

ok mate I will try the site if a newer version is out and also try the hard reset too. Will let you know how I get on. Thanks for all the help mate.

UK Orange 6.1 Update

Well after several calls to UK Orange business tech support they have send me the ROM update file:
RUU_Kaiser_ORANGE_UK_3[1].28.61.0R_radio_sign_25.83.40.02_1.65.16.25_Test.EXE
They didn't know when it would be officially released, but if you are needing 6.1 and don't wont to void your warranty with Hard SPL - there is a solution you can ask for.
PS - comes up with "test only" in orange boot screen - cool

Can you not upload this somewhere so we can download it?

This is great news, ive been in contact with orange tech support regarding this file for a few weeks now since i found the update page without the link to the new file, if you could upload this somewhere that would be fantastic!

Your having better luck than me with T-Mobile, I have been on at them for 3months now and all I have been told is July/August to coinside with the Vario 4 release.

Right I have been onto orange technical support now for about an hour i have quite an eager assistant. He is doing some serious digging, he has come back to me with the official report which is:
Although there is an official update page there is no official update file as yet as orange software writers have to remove all the "good stuff" and replace it with "orange junk". Within the coming weeks an update file may appear without any notice to orange customers. If orange is not happy with the software due to bugs or technical reasons the update maybe delayed as orange want all their customers to be happy

It has Rom Version 3.28.61.0 WWE installed
and radio 1.65.16.25
Operator Version 24.328.1.610
CE OS 5.2.19212 (Build 19212.1.0.3)
It's not the test version so it must be ready for release.

kaiser rom update for t-mobile handset uk

hi there,
i got a kaiser (mda vario 3 ) from t-mobile in 2007 december...
i been waiting for the new wm6.1 to come out,
i tried entering my serial number from my phone to the htc support website and it doesnt seem to recognise it,...
i spoke to t-mobile, they say it should recognise , other than that they cant help me?
does any one else have this problem or, i wud be great full if sum lend me thier serial or put up a official htc rom link to wm6.1

Since its a phone branded t-mobile, the SN is not recognised as an original HTC phone...
But it also seems a lot of people are having problem with their SN on the newly created HTC download interface, so it could also be HTC website's fault. (see other "New HTC ROM related threads" in this forum)

i updated with the first 6.1 HTC ship rom . That works very well. Havent tried this newer update yet. look at the first sticky in the rom section and try downloading it from here instead

Has anyone been able to download the 3.57.502.2 WWE firmware update from HTC? I have attempted to download over the past 24 hours however the file linked to the download page is the 1.62 ROM. I ask this for a specific reason. I need a ROM that has been through the Windows Logo Certification to compare some test results against.

HTC Customer Support is aware of the link being for the old or existing ROM and they claim to be working on fixing the link. It may be that problems have surfaced with the new ROM and these are being fixed before we can download it. No estimate was given of how soon the problem will be resolved.

Looks like Monday at the earliest. Sounds about right. Can you imagine releasing a major update on the weekend when the support staff is at a minimum?

Double check...if it says 1.62, that is the old update. Check the size of the file, should be close to 90 meg.

Actually, even the descriptor text is back to showing 1.62.xx.xx now.

The old ROM was released months ago and was the saem as this, 1.62.x.

This ROM has been available since February 2008.
