How to add .wav files as ringtone - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV General

When I add a .wav file to my windows directory, I can not see it in the phone options to use it as ringtone.
Can anybody tell me how to add this wav as a ringtone?
Thanx RObert

Convert to mp3 or wma.

I just found out that if you put a .wav file in the windows/ring folder, you can select the files.

or, better (in my opinion) into the internal storage/my documents. they are much easier to find/replace (opening windows directory takes a long time and finding something there is a pain in the a..s.). also, this way after a hard reset or flashing a new ROM you will not have to copy them again and as a bonus you'll have more memory in the "device".

internal storage\my documents is the right way to do it because after a hard reset you'll still have them there and you don't use precious device memory.
Tank you!
After hard reboot i found the rings from \windows\rings too (not the shortcut).
But the internal storage\my documents is the right way!!!
If you want to put them on your device memory, the correct location is \My Documents\My Ringtones.

This might work for rings, but you will find it untrue for SMS notification.
In which case, "My Documents" root will work.
SMS notifications are put in windows folder inside internal storage

Changing sound SMS

Hey, I was wondering if it is possible to change the sound of an incoming message into an mp3 file or so? I can change it in the standard sounds but want to use my own file. Is it possible?
Of course it is ! Not easy to guess at first, but I found a way to enable this.
You basically need to copy your .mp3 file (and remember its name to locate it after in the list) in the Windows folder of your device. It's a little long to load, don't be afraid, but then just paste the mp3 file in the windows folder, nowhere else, at its root.
Finally, go to sound configuration (parameters, system...) and set your mp3 file as the default SMS tone.
Enjoy !
That didnot work for me. It works when I press the "PLAY" button when configuring it but the only way it sound when I get a SMS is if I use a .wav file on the Windows folder mp3 dont work for me on SMS althoug the work on call tunes.
convert it to .wav then

Where to put sound files in order to use them as alarm clock/ ringtone?

Hi all,
I want to use my own MP3-Files for alarm clock/ ringtone, however, I cannot select the files for these applications.
As far as I can see, there are three music-folders on the device, \MUSIC, \WINDOWS\HTCTone and \WINDOWS\Rings.
Wherever I put my MP3-files, I cannot select them in the browser of the alarm clock/ ringtone app. Are there any additional registry entries needed? Or doesn't the TD2 accept MP3s for these purposes?
Thanks in advance,
Caroline
You can place MP3 files for ringtones into My Documents / My Ringtones and files for sms notification must be in windows folder. I tried to use mp3 files for alarm clock but without avail. I think it must be wav or wma file in windows directory also.
Edit: I've tried it and it must be .wav file.

hi bro, so u put the *.wav file into which folder? thanks.
Hi, .wav file I put into windows folder and it's displayed in Ringtone menu.
On Polaris it's in
Device\Application Data\Sounds\
From there mp3s are working for SMS/MMS notifications... Reminders too...
for ringtone u can put it in storage card, must be at the main page, not inside any folder

set as ringtone my wav. file.

where can i download a app, that set the wav. file as a ringtone or messages alert?? can you give me some links. thanks in advance..
are you dislike mp3 ? )
Use ur laptop to send the .wav file to ur X1 through bluetooth. And then u can see the wav file in the ringtone list
making the wav into mp3 would dec it's size by a factor 11 though
The best software to encode between mp3 and .wav is free CDEx.
I use it all the time in profi usage.
With 320kbps mp3 you get perfect quality without any loss for a ringtone.
well for ring tones I would advise mono and a pretty low Kb/sec as the speaker in most devices don't really do high quality audio much justice
Put it in either the My Documents folder on your device or in Storage Card\My Documents and it'll show up in the ringtone list.
Works for mp3, wma, wav, mid etc

Nope. It works in My Documents as well, even on a card. Try it!

How to change alert sounds

I need longer alert sounds on the built in calendar app so that I can hear them. I have tried adding mp3 files to /system/media/audio/notifications but the folder won't accept them. I cannot find any way of calling sounds from another folder (eg the external card) within the app itself. How can I do this?
You need to be rooted to be able to copy files to the /system (and thus /system/media) folder.
If you are rooted, convert your mp3 to an ogg file with any audio converter and put the file in /system/media/audio/notifications and see if you can select it as your notification sound in the calendar.
Thanks, but I'm not rooted and wouldn't want to attempt to go down that road as I totally don't understand it.
Can anyone help me put in some useable alert tones please?
