when I'm driving close to my gf house when she's expecting me, I usually give a ring in her phone meaning "wait me outside, I'm close"
the way I currently do this is:
1) close car window in case it's opened, and turn off car radio (otherwise step 5/6 is useless, can't hear the ring)
2) turn the phone on
3) press the phone button
4) hold 5 (speed dial)
5) hold the phone button to get speaker on
6) wait for the ring and press phone off
7) turn phone off
ok, that's not very speed dial... and I have to look to the screen to find the "5" button (so, usually, before leaving home I check if she is the last call, so I can just press phone twice)
any alternatives?
maybe I can assign a hard button to "call number X"?
or some software that waits for a ring and turn off?
well
I merged 3 and 4 using Longkey+vjphonetools, now I just have to long press phone button
this helps a lot, since now I don't need to look at the phone
but it would be great if there's some application that just waits a ring then turn off
and/or someway to make the speaker louder
I tried a lot of threads, but didn't find anything that helped
Uh....MS Voice Command+Noise Cancelling Bluetooth....
You can try creating some script with MortScript. After that just assign this script to hardkey. If you use S2U2 and assign this script to LongSend key you just need to hold Send key for 5 seconds and the script executes (no need to turn on or unlock phone).

I find this rather annoying, but don't know how to adjust it.
When making a call, sometimes you have to press through prompts like, 1, 2 , 3 etc. But after listening to the prompts, I find the phone screen to be OFF. I know that it's a power saving feature. However, it's quite annoying when to have press other keys to continue. I have to press the power button to get the screen to come back on.
Secondly, when connected to a call, the dialpad goes to the status screen by default. I have to change to keypad as well.
So here are my questions:
1) Anyway to change the amount of time before the screen blanks out while in a call?
2) Any other way to turn on the screen quickly without have to push the power button (which is difficult to push BTW)?
3) Any way to make the dialpad go to the numbers by default after a call is connected?
Thanks for any inputs!

Speaking of dialpads,
Do any of you guys having problems with inaccurate digit presses? I mean, I try to press 2, and 0 gets pressed instead, or other adjacent and non-adjacent numbers. Quite annoying really. Anyone experienced the same?
I have searched, but I have been unable to find a solution to my problem.
During my searches, I have discovered that many people, like myself, often struggle finding and pressing the power button to turn on and off the screen/phone.
I current use S2U2, which is a great piece of software, and even better since it is free. I use S2U2 to wake my phone up. I have set my settings to not lock the phone when device is off so to unlock/wake my phone I simply press any of the hardware buttons, and I see the S2U2 screen.
However, turning the screen off/putting it in standby is more of a hassle since I have to try and track down the tiny power button. I have downloaded and tried several free remapping programs but none of them allow me to remap a hardware button to standby/lock the phone. Generally, they only allow me to remap a hardware button to a program or setting other than standby/lock.
I would like to know if there was a way to remap a button to put the phone in standby.
I use BlackMe , more info on the website...
You could also try putting some "puffy" paint on the power button. It's that 3D paint people put on shirts etc. that bulges up when it dries. It makes a nice little bead to hit rather than trying to press the little power button.

Does this program put the Tilt into SLEEP/STANDBY or just blank the screen. The author does not make this clear.
it just blanks the screen. I will keep up with this thread though, I have always wanted my PTT button to be my power button.....
yeah, me too. I am surprised that there isn't a solution yet....
I've always hated the hard to find power button as well. The PTT button is so easy to find and press, yet I've never, ever, not once accidentally pressed it. Why can't the power button be as raised up as the PTT one? I've seriously considered taking my phone apart and machining a replacement power button that stuck out farther. I'd probably make it out of aluminum to make it look cool, too.
But I'd be plenty happy in the mean time with remapping my PTT button to be a power button...
Yeah, I don't even need all the power button powers... I know the power button is used to do other things other than turn the screen on and off... I just want to use another button to turn the screen on and off and suspend the phone...
SPB Mobile Shell allows you to toggle the screen, suspend and many other options. I don't know if I would purchase the program just for it's button enhancing ability though.
Correction SPB Pocket Plus not SPB Mobile Shell
You could also check out AE Software at http://ae.inc.ru/
I dont know if this is kind of what you guys want, but heres my 2 cents. Go here to this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=431328&page=4 and download Dave Shaw's awesome remake of psShutXP in post #34 (its the newest version)
Install to your MAIN DEVICE cuz thats where these shortcuts point to, then pick one of the 2 shortcuts I provided and just drop them in your main \Windows folder.
Hold down PTT button
Long_PTT
Quick push of PTT button
Short_PTT
Now, you can either just quickly push the PTT button or hold it down (depending on which shortcut you chose) and xdaShutdown will pop up giving you the option to RESTART,SLEEP/SCREEN OFF, or COMPLETELY SHUTDOWN your phone.
So essentially now, the PTT is your new power button. To put in standby mode just 2 button pushes is required. 1 push on the PTT button, then another tap on the Sleep button.
But if your really lazy and just want to be able to push PTT button once to put it in Standby/Sleep mode, then all you would do is find out the command to put the phone in standby mode (sorry I dont know it), then open notepad on your desktop, then type the command something like, this is ONLY AN EXAMPLE (42#"\Program Files\xdaShutdown\xdaShutdown.exe"), then save the file as either Short_PTT.lnk or Long_PTT.lnk and then drop the file into your \Windows folder.
But what about one push on the PTT button to wake it up out of standby? (without setting it so that all buttons wake it...)
Wow, I am an idiot. Haha. I never thought about the "wake up" part. Cuz once in Standby, the PTT button would then be non responsive so it then wouldnt work for waking the device. That is a tuff one, I have no idea how to specify what button(s) are locked/unlocked when in standby.
No way, you're not an idiot! I (and others I'm sure) totally appreciate your input. I just happened to have thought this over many, many times. I very well may have to go buy a bottle of that "puffy" paint stuff... sure would beat a full disassembly of the device to make a new, pronounced button!
I'm hoping I haven't misread the problem here, but if it is what I think it is, then you can do it with just S2U2.
I have my TyTnII set up as follows:
No button lock
S2U2 set to lock when backlight turns off
Backlight to turn off in 1 minute
In Setting/Buttons, assign "Button 4 (hold)" to S2U2
So I use it in a similar manner to the original poster. I "wake" it with a press of any hardware button (and obviously unlock it with a slide on the screen)
I lock/stand-by it by pressing and holding the OK button (it goes into standby after 1 min of being locked)
Hope that makes sense and is what you are after.
(nb am not 100% sure that the ability to set an app to run on the holding of a button is standard - I might only have that functionality dues to having SPB PocketPlus installed - am sure someone will let me know!)
Yes! this is what I was going for... I didn't even think about using your solution. Thanks!!!!
Does anyone have a problem with the hardware buttons not waking the phone up? I have my key lock setting not to lock buttons, but most of the time, my phone does not wake up when I press any of the hard keys. However, when I use the jog dial, the phone will wake up, but none of the other buttons will work.
Can anyone tell me of a fix that keeps the screen from turning off during a call? I assume this occurs on the Diamond and the Pro. I am using a Pro, but got no answer on the Rafael forum. Swear on my Momma's (your jargon here) that I searched for the answer..yes I'm a noob
try this
8. Prevent screen switching off during phone call --> HKEY_Local_Machine\Drivers\BuiltIn\RIL\EnableFastD ormantDisplayDuringCall to 0 (Note: does not work on all ROMs)
AND (tested and works on EU ROMs thanks to Rod65)
HKCU\ControlPanel\Phone\Sleep switch value from 1 to 0
prolly wil do the trick...
but why would one want to keep the screen on during a a call???
you have an extra eye in youre ears?
or do you like to press randum buttons like "hang up" and such??
thats wat happend when i activated my screen during calls... now ive got it back 2 normal, and cant say i disagree with the initial design to shut it of during call...
besides that you can get it back on during a call with a simple press of the powerbutton
The reason why - Because when I get a call and I need to activate loud speaker / mute the call ... I have to do the following:
Push the power button, click unlock, push unlock again, then push "phone", and then make the adjustment.
At which point the screen goes off again!
How difficult would it have been for HTC to have just dim/disable touch on the screen, until you push a key to enable them??
screen on in call is needed when
on a automated service...i.e telephone banking
try and swap with this one

Hi,
I also would like to fix this problem, how do you get into change Hkey settings?? Or is there a more user friendly way of doing this??
Thnx....
u will need a registry editer of some sort - i use regedit which is part of the 2.8 Dutty Rom
hi everyone!! i found that if i press some time the end call buttom, there are a few options that i could do, one of them is to lock the diamond... and i set long press the end call buttom to lock the device...
diamond locks when long press the end call buttom, but doesn't go sleep... is there anyway to put the power buttom to do the 2 things simultouneasly?? when you press the power buttom, it locks the device and put it to sleep! is anyway to do this??
I believe that when the device is in standby from pressing the power button all the other keys are locked with exception to the power button anyway? I know its not exactly what you're after but it seems a simpler solution than any others I can think of.
Some sort of script would do it, either MortScript of SKScheMa, to first lock the device (by launching Endkey.exe) and then power off.
Edit: There's also an auto keylock setting that I think locks the device anytime the power is off, maybe that's what you need?

Hi this is how I have always locked my diamond by pressing power off it locks and turns off the screen also, this is performed by a registry edit, using a registry editor and going to Hkey-current-user\controlpanel\backlight\autodevicelockenable and changing from 0 to 1, this will also auto lock everytime the backlight turns off so you may have to change back light off time
that should work.. but there isn't a simply way to put the power off key to do the lock of the pda and to switch off the lights??
isn't a way to do this??

Hey I was hoping that someone new of a registry setting or 3rd part app that I could use to automatically lock the keys of my X1 after a minute or so.
I can only find the option to do it with a password in the standard settings and I'm sure that would get annoying after a while so I was hoping to do one without, just like that standard key lock.
Any ideas?
For me after one minute it will lock automatically and can only restore it with the power button (can lock the keys manually by pressing the power button key too).
See Start -> Settings -> System -> Power -> Advanced
Tick the second option and set your preferred time.

Sorry if this isn't what you are after, but...
Start -> Settings -> System -> Power -> Advance
On battery power:
[x] Turn off device if not used for: [3 min \/]
Start -> Settings -> System -> Key Lock
When device is in Sleep mode:
(x) Wake up the device by pressing the POWER button
...results in my phone going to sleep after 3 mins of no use, with the only way to wake it by pressing the power button (or to have an incoming call)

Yeah in those 3 minutes the screen takes any touch as an input though, while being in your pocket.
I don't get it, if you hold down the close call button the phone locks itseld and you get a click here to unlock screen if you touch the screen. Why can't the X1 have an option to enable this after x seconds?
Hell, my T630 has that.

What's wrong with the power button lock? It is almost the same, the difference is that you don't have to touch the screen to unlock but press the power button.
I don't understand at all this topic. The topic starter said he wants a lock without pressing anything after one minute. The solution provided by me and artesea is exactly that. Again the only difference is the unlocking method which instead using the screen you press the power button.
People are quite finicky these days....
I find this annoying also.
I now have to lock my phone (holding down the end call button) and then push the off button when I put it in my pocket. Would be better if theres an auto screen off and keyboardlock when you push the off-button.
Sorry, do we have different phones??????
To "lock" my phone I press the Power button, everything goes dark and I can put it in my pocket, doesn't matter if I hit the call button or tap the screen, the only way to "unlock" the phone is to press the Power button again.
If I forget to press the Power button after 3 minutes (but you can set this as low as 40 seconds) it "locks" the phone for me.
No need to press the End Call, or tap on the today screen.

I used to just press the power button and put the phone to sleep too... but then after a could long flight I found out that 1) if I put my phone in my jeans' front pocket (or actually... anywhere that have a chance to bump the power button), I can hit the power button and 2) once I hit the power button, the phone wakes for a couple hours trying to search for the network in the sky... and thanks god the plane didnt crash because of that but it did drain all the battery
I dunno if you have seen this too, but I realized that happened to me a couple times (not only on the plane but when I was walking as well) and eventually I decide I will hit the end call button to lock the phone before I hit the power button
this also happened when I had S2U2 installed... but since I didnt find it too useful (very nice if you want a iphone feel... but I already had an iphone for too long =P) and I dont want another application running in the background I decided to use the lock button instead
I was looking for automatic keylock too .. and then I too relized I don't need it ! Automatic screen-off is all I need.
