I should be getting my Kaiser the end of this week. Is there anything I should do immediately after receiving it?
Getting the Kaiser because my 8125 broke (the usb breaking issue). I'm no stranger to flashing roms, but just wondering whats the scenario with the new device.
Will I notice a big difference as far as speed/performance compared to my 8125.
Thanks!
Visit SPBsoftwarehouse.com and checkout SPB Mobile Shell - SPB Diary and SPB Phone Suite. Then for fun SPB Brain Evolution.
Then later on get PHM Registry Editor (free).
Then look into memmaid for maintenence.
Check out dutty's rom (#7 I believe).

I'd probably opt for
1) SPB's pocket plus
2) Wisbar advance 3
I'd also get
a) PHM Registry editor (free)
b) TCPMP (free)
c) MemMaid
d) Kaiser Tweaks (free)
If you want GPS navigation
i) Microsoft Live Search (free)
ii) Google Maps (free)
iii) TomTom Navigator 6 (dependant on if you have Kaiser or variant, and where you live -- free/paid)
The Kaiser ships with "Sprite Backup", this is a an older version, but works OK. Dont contemplate changing if for the "Upgraded version" or SPB Backup unless you have issues
The Kaiser also ships with GPRS monitor, this is SPB's GPRS monitor under a different name.
You might want to use the HTC Home Customiser thats around, however backup your phone before doing so (I changed my clock font using it).
the first thing to know is that htc suck because there is no hardware acceleration for the qualcom chip coz they don t want to relese the driver lol

If I had to do it over again, I would not have gone for the Kaiser. As it stands, I will likely go back to my 8125 at least for a little while until some of the issues get worked out.
You may be better off finding a cheap 8525 from ebay to use until something lives up to what you would expect from the specs. The Kaiser has many issues. Here's a few
1. Many people have complained about poor Bluetooth headset volume. This might require purchasing a new headset.
2. Since the 8125 days, you now need to buy and adapter to use a standard 3.5 headphone jack.
3. Video playback is very poor
4. Game play for anything with 3D graphics (hearsay to me) is very poor.
5. TouchFlo - It is so buggy it is pretty much useless.
6. After several iterations of both moblie OS's and PC OS's, I still can not get music to "sync" without issues. It took me DAYS to get 4GB of music synced as I had to keep reconnecting. Every 40-50 songs. This had been a problem for me since WinMo 2003 and XP, and is still problematic with WinMo 6 and Vista. I have never been a big fan of iTunes, but at least it WORKS.
7. This depends on your supplier but for me, the AT&T ROM is chock full of useless programs and lacks most of the HTC supplied programs that ship with the HTC ROM. After several days trying to essentially get the AT&T ROM to look like the HTC ROM, I gave up and flashed a cooked ROM. It sucks that I had to go through all of this trouble to get the phone set up as I liked it. I feel sorry for people who aren't up to flashing a ROM, because the AT&T ROM is truely an abomination of marketing gack. More than 50% of the programs in the standard custom install are trial version that require you to spend more money for full functionality.
Anyway, I am a bit jaded. Considering I skipped a generation (never had an 8525) I had high expectations that this would be far and away better then my 8125. It is in some respects, but so far I think it has not been worth the effort and cost. Since I had an offboard GPS solution for the 8125, about the only thing that is better on the Tilt is the Bluetooth Stereo and compatibitly with WM6 programs. It's not even that much smaller.
Before you get the 8925/Tilt - screen protector, case, large microSD (they sell up to 8gb now).
As people are saying here, you may want to do the At&t bloatware removal trick. We have 2 Tilts in the house: 1 with, 1 without bloatware. I have the bloatware, and will do the removal trick next time I need to hard boot. Not a single thing on there I need, that I can't find on Xda. The bloatware takes up about 20mb of space! The other Tilt is running great sans bloatware.
Essential programs to offset some bugginess:
- KaiserTweaks (freeware).
- BandSwitch (free or pay versions) if you have 3G in your area.
- Conduits PocketPlayer 3.5X (sound is much better to me).
Utilities:
- DinarSoft MemMaid (not free), but it has so many functions all in one: It will help with Notifications/Alarms, it is a Registry Editor, you can reformat your microSd card with it (to name a few).
- Chi-Tai Dang BatteryStatus Today Plugin (free or pay versions). Will show battery, memory, card memory, cpu usage, phone minutes/data/texting...
- Spb Mobile Shell (not free).
Programs:
- Microsoft Live Search (freeware).
- ReenSoft PiePlus (not free).
Nav N Go, the makers of the iGO mapping solution just unveiled iGO8. iGO8 is unique in that it provides not just 2D and tilted 3D maps, but realistic 3D maps with building renderings in select US cities. Of course, not all buildings are rendered, but it looks realistic enough to actually help guide you along the way, especially in busier areas.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qUzQkR0H2S0&feature=related
Anyone know how to make skins for the igo8 final? or if tmc works with the tilt
If it does run, it will probably run like cr*p in the 3D view w/o the display drivers that the Kaiser lacks. Regular TomTom is bad enough. My old Axim X5 runs it smoother than my Tilt!
Got it running looks nice but struggles like hell on certain parts and when you have loads of buildings showing up its working hard. I still use tomtom still.
i have it.
I have installed I Go on my Kaiser.
Works a treat and looks great. I think it is as fast if not faster than TomTom.
and i love the TEXT TO SPeach when it says the mane of the road, not just turn right. The 3D mountains look great as well.
PS i dont work for I Go either.

The iGo clearly does not come with spell-checker ;-)
iGo8 - 2008
I've just installed iGO 2008 ...
For a couple of reason ... firstly, to watch the 3D buildings everyone is raving about and secondly, to see if it will run on the TytnII (since the official site states it can).
Verdict:
Yes, iGO8 2008 does run on the TytnII and better still ... unlike the previous version, it does not object to HTC Home engaged in the today screen
The initial menu screen is split into four boxes, 'Find', 'Route', 'Manage' an 'Setting', with soft buttons for 'Map/Cockpit screen' and 'Exit'. The navigation screen is also somewhat different, almost like a flight sim cockpit view. The SD card directory structure has the buildings held seperately.
GPS locked on quickly and auto-set to port 4 but with a high baud rate .. this can be changed though, since I found Tomtom wasn't a huge fan of fast baud rate comms to the GPS.
Some nice features like a menu shortcut to add 'speed camera locations with speed limit reference' on the move, and verbally announcing the GPS dis-engaging ... it's early days and I'll feedback any major issues, but if the gossip that Tomtom are going to discontinue the development of Tomtom for the PDA are true, then it looks like iGO will be the way to go.
I've enclosed a link to the manual if anyone wants to look at it [from the official site @ 1.4mb]

Thank you for your feedback and I do like igo8 alot better then the old igo. But I wish they will add more building for the usa maps
Hi all,
I made a data.zip for IGO8 which is working with rezolution 240_240 - http://rapidshare.com/files/115724040/data.zip.html
It isn't look like the original ones, but this is just the beginning.
One bug - after pushing the button Set point as a final destination on navigate screen the program shows an FFUI error - press OK button and everything will be OK.
I'm starting to fix size ot some menu bottons and to improve the skin at all.
Everybody who like to help is wellcome.
Enjoy

i have software NoThrills_WM61_NLD_V3 on mine phone
rom version 3.14.172.0.nld
radio version 1.65.14.06
can sombody help please its to strainge
or is there a good software version that wil work dutch software is no pree
As a dedicated Tomtom user I decided to load up IGO8 and have a look to see how it was and so far I am pretty impressed.
It certainly picked up the GPS signal a lot quicker than Tomtom 6.032. It was very accurate and I like the "You are speeding" feature.
So far I have not had Text to speech operate, not sure why, might be the maps here in Australia.
I would like more choice with voices (I tend to like John Cleese in Tomtom).
It is a real memory hog though, I only run a P3600i and when IGO is running I have 3 meg of free operating memory so it really isn't practical for me at the moment. Maybe whn I can get my hands on the HTC Diamond.
I will give more feedback once I have used it a bit more.

I forgot to mention in my ealier thread
... I decided to try out the 'practical' side of the iGO and engage the voices whilst being a passenger in my Wifes car on the Motorway (autobaan/freeway)
... My Wife was not a happy bunny to hear a complete stranger out of the PDA telling her she was speeding !!
I'll have to find out if the software has a 'don't p*** your wife off' function ... mine took years to perfect
I too stopped using TomTom in favor or the latest iGO, the speed warnings, the reading of the street names and not just simple "turn left or right", the buildings and ofc, the 3d terrain is what for me played the major part in swapping over, being able to see if I should be going up or down, below or above another road, is really helpful in new places.
iGo runs fine on my kaiser, up to 3-4 building in medium distance works fine, more then that and it begins to struggle, but, since there aren't many spots with buildings displayed where I drive everyday, it doesn't really bother me.
Oh, and for the dude who asked, TMC doesn't obviously work since we got no FM tuner, and there's no TMC over the interweb in iGo from what I can see
error
i have install igo8 and found these issues.
when i exit out of igo it changes my volume to mute.
when i change the time zone it does not save and it changes the time zone on my device.
The timezone issue is known and their site as a really good explanation on how to fix it, all sites should be searched, not just this one
Just add this to your Storage Card\iGO8\Sys.txt
Code:
[timezone]
sync_os_timezone=0
reset_os_timezone=0

I know that there are version 7 maps for USA available including 3D buildings etc. but not v8 as yet.
I don't think this would be a problem as I've had iGO8 on v7 and v8 of the UK (with buildings) and they both work, so the answer would be yes, but not up to date maps.
Demo - There was a beta version that expired 1st May 2008 or there abouts.
** Note ** USA is available as individual 'States' and not in a single package like Tomtom.
So has anyone been able to get V7 US maps (state-by-state) working on V8 Final or was everyone who's had success with the At&T Tilt (seen a few Tilts in signatures) using the beta version?

I ended up ditching IGO for miomap. Runs faster
I've been using it for a week and a half now and I'm going to say that Igo8 is the best out there. I love it. It works better and faster than tomtom. Also the 3D buildings look fine and perform fine on my phone.
Does anyone know of any other GPS software available for the Kaiser I'm currently using TOMTOM but was wondering what others were available. I need it to have UK maps and I also travel to Florida fairly often so maps for there would be nice too.
I dont want this to turn into another " What is the best GPS software" thread. Just what is available out there and possibly a link to trial versions (if your feeling nice)

Windows Live Search Mobile. Great software from Microsoft. Since you're UK based it has maps available for the UK and US. Hope you have a data plan though because it downloads maps on the fly.
I use a combination of tomtom, garmin, google and live search moblie....tomtom is more responsive, performance wise compared to garmin. Garmin is more refined and has some neat features.Bottomline, it all depends on personal preference.
Sygic McGuider
garmin seems nice. i know you can load your own custom poi's, and not be limited to 10mb like on a gps unit!!!
How about Navigon MobilNavigator.
I have been using it on my Kaiser ever since I got the Kaiser (I used it on a Herald, a Wizard and a Universal before) and I have always been very happy with it.
I find that the route planning is the best available.
Give it a try.
Good luck with your choice.

I've tried a few different GPS apps and I think that the new iGO8 beats them all. Give it a shot... can't say anything about the maps in UK and US though.
Destinator...

Totally agree, this is some great software, the maps are in great detail and the signposts/exit direction signs are lovely. Really easy to see. Then theres the TTS, best one yet - it actually says 'take exit off motorway, junction 3a' in a non robotic way. Its all good..
Google this - Sygic McGuider - and you'll find it..
I personaly use miomaps mainly becasue, you can put on whatever maps you want and all the United States are divided up. The program plus Florida maps is under 92mb
I use iGuidance 4, it gives you door to door directions and works well with my at&t tilt. I use GPS Utilities if I am out camping and hiking.
maporama is pretty good - used it on my i780
http://shop.maporama.com/index.php?cPath=43
but I use tt6 on my kaiser
My personal choice...
I've tried destinator, route 66, sygic...
was a staunch tomtom 6 fan until I got my hands on ;-) a copy of IGO 8 - it really has all the best features from all the other systems in one app. The speed camera support is phenomenal - if you pass the start of an average speed camera, it monitors your average speed and tells you if you go above it until you get past the average speed camera zone... and with static cameras, it only beeps if you're speeding, and keeps beeping until you slow down (Route66 is the only other that does this)...
There is also a Text to Speech engine (TTS) so if you want it to, it will actually speak the road names.
You can just copy the relevant files to your sd card and run it from there without installing it...
Message me if you need more info...
Hello again,
As I mentioned in a previous thread, I’m due to upgrade my handset in the coming weeks from an N95 to the Touch Diamond (MDA Compact 4)... I have some really good apps on the N95 which I rely on a lot. I was wondering if anyone knew of any WM6.1 alternatives to the following apps...
Nokia Internet Radio
http://europe.nokia.com/A4668051
Hundreds of streaming radio stations over WiFi or HSDPA
Shazam ID
http://www.shazam.com/music/portal/page/default/template/pages/p/shazam_id.html
Music track identification - the app records a sample of the track and tells you the name and artist via data connection WiFi or HSDPA.
Nokia Sports Tracker
http://www.nokia.com/A4388200
GPS Tracking of my sports activity (running / cycling etc) routes viewable in google earth via KML file.
Nokia Conversation
http://www.nokia.com/A4568203
View text messages listed by contact as opposed to going to inbox and sent items separately
I've already checked my other key apps:
Shozu
JoikuSpot
Route 66
And they all appear to support HTC devices such as the Cruise and the Kaiser etc, so I should be ok there.
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated - not sure if i should of used a different forum for this really.... if a mod feels ti should be moved please go ahead
Garry
1) the original wm 6.1 text messaging shows you both the send and received at the same time and you can also see them while you r typing so you could reply back to the received questions
2) there is also a program for internet radio on the htc, i have used it and it is perfect. it think it is spb radio. check it out
Excellent, thats a good start Thanks!
Anyone have any alternatives to Shazam and Sports Tracker?
Alternative for sportstracker is RUNGPS
Ah sweet! Thanks lappie!!
after some searching i found tthese....theres probably better ones but the results looked promising:

http://www.getjar.com/products/12049/InetToolsTrackID

Another nice Symbian application is Nokia's Lifeblog, overall due to its ability to get synchronised with the PC client... Is there any equivalent in the PPC world?

New here and also looking into moving off Symbian and over to WM... scary stuff ;-)
We do a lot of geocaching and having Geocache Navigator installed on the N95 is great (when a phone signal is present of course) to find cache's close by or check on cache details without having to take printed pages along. It will also guide you via a compass and bearing to the Lat Long location of the cache...
Any apps specifically for geocacher's that will interact with the geocahce web site / data base ?
cheers
Shazam ID works on Diamond
I have Shazam ID working on the Diamond. One problem.... I have to reset the Diamond each time I use the program. For some reason it will not shutdown properly because it is not made for a touch phone. Maybe someone knows how to use it better???

hiya. anyone know any good & freeware (cab please):
1 image/photo editor - to edit diamond photos
2 gps maps/software (I use amzgps and google but drains download limits)
3 any decent 3d games(action,rally...) for when bored at work...
probably be better in "Applications" section
i think you will be hard pushed for the Game, but there is a Windows Mobile verison of Paint (dont think it is actually made by Micro$hite)
What part of the world are u in? different places will have better/worse GPS software.

For PPC image editors, you probably can't get much better than these three:
Pocket Picture (Just-as-good freeware):
http://osdmsoftware.googlepages.com/pocketpicture
Pocket Artist 3 (Pay-application):
http://www.conduits.com/products/artist/
XnView (Free cross-platform):
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xnview
http://www.xnview.com/
http://www.xnviewpocket.org/
Having tried almost every image editor on the Diamond, I can conclude that the above options are the very best available, especially considering the requirement for full VGA compatibility, photo editing, multi-format etc.
For GPS on the Diamond you could try TomTom7 which seems to be by far the most popular, although IGO8 and GarminXT would work too. CAB files for the applications and guides to make them work on Diamond are readly available here (legally) however you will have to purchase the maps (or search elsewhere if you know where - though it's not condoned by me or this forum).
For the Games and many, many other application, tools, utilities, themes and hacks you can really do no better than to browse the extensive amount of posts in both the Diamond "Themes, Applications and Software" General and "Development and Hacking" sections on this very Forum. Perhaps just spend an evening or two making your way through the threads back until May or so. You will find everything you need and be totally up-to-speed.
Also http://www.freewareppc.com/ is one of the best overall freeware resources on the web including version tracking.
Good luck with your new device - though I actually like the Diamond device, HTC Software and especially this community, because of the OS I'll be moving over to Android or Apple as soon as I can.

I wonder: is it possible to install another version of CoPilot from somewhere and then use the maps already installed in the internal storage in T-Mobile Compact IV (CoPilot demo version)? Or are they protected somehow.
