tom tom help needed - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

Hello everyone I am a new member with a bit of a problem. I bought my tytn II off of ebay and the seller is no help so I am hoping someone here will be kind enough to lend a hand. when I bring up tom tom on my tytn it ask for an activation code which I dont have a clue about. So I would love to use tom tom but have been out of luck so if anyone could help I would be greatful.

Activation code is something you need to buy from http://www.tomtom.com
If it came with TomTom 7 though, your outta luck for now cause it's not 'officially' available for windows mobile devices yet.

using v6 or 7?

There are versions of TomTom out there which don't need activation - I think v6.032 which came on my CD is the best (I'd upload a copy, but I think the mods won't allow this). However, you still need to buy the maps...

tomtom 6 is my version I am using

Tom Tom Navigator

Hi, I have an XDA Mini S and would like to have Tom Tom Navigator on it. Being very new to this and a bit of a technophobe, can anyone tell me how to get it on my phone? Thanks.
TomTom in 3 easy steps
1) Buy it for your device
2) Read the manual that comes with it
3) Install it as per manual.
Ok, thanks. So its made for specific devices? Sorry to ask stupid questions but i am a girl!! lol
It is that easy - Honest!
I had 'trial' version, purely for evaluation purposes you understand (ahhem!) once i got that working i went out and purchased a legitimate version - actually i bought it off e-bay along with a BT-GPS unit.
There are soooooooooooo many contradicting stories about compatibility of TTN5 with XDA mini s - two contradicting stories come from TomToms' own website!!!
try it - it does work
regards
Mark
Thanks so much for your help! Where can i get a trial version from? I've just browsed ebay for the actual software and its quite pricey, so it waould be great to check it out first!
Tom Tom
I purchased the software and reciever the other day, installed it and it works GREAT! I do agree it is a little pricey though. It is easy to install.
Anyone know where to get a trial version? I'd like to see how much I'd use it before spending an arm and a leg! lol
Glad it works well on there though, I love the phone and am slowly customising it to exactly how i want it.
Tom Tom
Tom Tom don't do "trial" versions hence the " (ahhem!) "
.. and for the sake of this forum - please don't ask for a hacked version.
TomTom works just fine on a Wizard, most of the issues you'll read about are from people with hacked copies.
You do , however, have to watch out and ensue that you only install it on 1 pda/phone. The registration code it then "tied" to that pda in particular and if you change/upgrade pda's then it will not re-activate with the same code.. TomTom will have u sending them copies of receipts (for the new phone) etc - just to get a new activation code. It took me about 7 emails and just as many days to get mine re-activated when I switched from a XDAIIs (blue angel) to this Wizard.
There are cheaper sat nav programs out there though..

Whats one of them??? :?
You need a BT-GPS - BlueTooth Global Positioning System receiver so that the TomTom software knows where you are.
The receiver uses geo-stationary satellites to calculate your lat and lon co-ordinates. You have to use a bluetooth version with the XDA as there are no external com ports for a wired antenna.

Thanks for that Mark!!! That actually made sense! lol I'll go see what I can find now.

tom tom navigator

does anyone know what symbiant of tom tom navigator I need for my wizzard? i'm on t-mobile uk. also, any idea where I might be able to "aquire" a copy of it?
thanks in advance!!
yeah you can buy it at a store or at tomtom.com, its very rude to come in here asking for warez and such stuff. do some research. dont be lazy. i currently have tomtom 6 running on my mda and its working very well so i recommend that one. So good luck on your findings my friend. adios

TomTom 7 Maps...

Interesting, you can actually buy maps for TomTom Navigator 7 now, the only choices are Western or Eastern Europe. I guess they are trying to cut out us folks in the states.
As far as I heard TT wont continue to support PDA's and PPC's and will move to their own products (standalone and potential OEM for the car industry). Though sad perhaps an understandable move due to:
- To many hacked and cracked versions
- To many variations at aforementioned devices (cracked ROMs, incompatibility etc.)
...as said, this is what I've heard.
If you load tt home and let it find your device it will give you the option to buy US maps.
true just download tthome and it wil give you option to buy us maps..just reminder, i live in salt lake city and lot of POI are missing , software is very nice with voice and acurrat direction however POI suck, I use msn live search for POI(the best)enjoy
I've been to the site on my PDA, but can't find where to download the TTHome. Do I need to sign up? I think when I loaded the TASTER version on my Tilt, I registered it. I want to buy either the US Map or the North America Map. Although... I really don't know the difference between either of them.
Can someone help?
who's interested in buying maps?
any idea how much it cost to buy Entire USA map ?
for tt6 or tt7
i have tt6 with outdated maps...
I purchased USA and Canada map 2-3 months ago, and it was around $70. (That was version 6.65 , or was it 6.75...I odn't remember). I presume 7X maps would cost about the same.
I may know a guy, who knows a guy, who can get you the maps for $30

Hello everyone,
I first posted my comments on the General Kaiaser forum in a Tom Tom thread, but a contributor suggested that I post here in this TT7 thread. Here it is...
I have TT7 (Taster Version) on my Tilt (originally for the Diamond). I am wondering:
1. If I download the North America Maps from Tom Tom, What device do I choose? I've heard that a possible map download is the GO 720 T map, but before I spend the money, I would like to make sure.
2. After loading the map to the root directory of my storage card, how do I get the TT program to see it.
3. If I DRAG the map folder over to my device via Windows, it goes through a "conversion" process in transferring it to the device. Should this be the case? Or... does the storage card need to be Windows formatted?
Thanks for the help.
BTW: The one free map works perfectly!!! I just need more than one city! Thanks again everyone...
Isn't this covered in the thread that had the downloads? It said to say you have another device and then do some stuff and you can get the US maps. I'm pretty sure if you searched that thread there might be something in there about that.

I also tried to look for that answer but I could not find it, it was mentioned that it was on page 70 from another thread but I could not find it. Does anyone know? I want to buy the map from Tomtom 7 of the USA. Could I use the map from another device? Sorry if this has been answered before, I just could not find it.
Thank you

You can do all this yourself very easily I'm running TT7 - Version 7.450 9028 with pretty much maps of everywhere - Ausi (V720-1838) USA & Canada V720, North America, South Africia, NZ, Western Europe, Ireland and UK etc etc etc.
PM me and I can run you through how to get this working on your phone - oh and the cost was $0 so was in my price ballpark and I find TT better than copilot 7 which came with the phone, nothing really wrong with CP7 just found the maps and interface easier on the TT. Also V7 has map share so you can unblock roads change direction etc which comes in handy when the new motorway opens up.
Google can find you anything.
New maps
So I have now inadvertantly purchaced v8.15 the UK maps from TomTom, but Home says that these cannot be installed on my kaiser running 7.910 and hence I cannot download it from the tomTom website.
Any ideas of should I ask TT for my money back... this is what hammens if you try and go ligit!!!!
I know how you feel Othillo. I just tried to buy the maps too and it didn't work. I think it's dumb that TomTom is making it pretty much impossible to buy the maps legally. It makes no sense to me and it's quite frustrating. When I just tried to order the maps, it gave me 2 orders instead of the 1. So far no money has been taken from me (a good thing) and I better not get charged the $70 (or the $140 as the TomTom website says).

Your best thing to do is look here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=401679
Or go to TOMTOM here
http://www.tomtom.com/
We on XDA are not allowed to talk about maps and any thing else like POI to do with TOMTOM it is classed as Warez and Warez is not allowed so i suggest you go to the above links.
Or give it a good GOOGLE thats what i did and i learnt everything there is to know about TOMTOM AND IGO 8. ON A PPC

Basically it's pretty simple - The tytn 2 usually does not come with tomtom, if you want it you should buy it.
For the versions that come with it, the supplied map is a demo, and you will still have to buy the maps too. That's what's discussed in the thread above.
and its extremely hard to find the official maps for TTN7

TomTom 7 on Tilt -> New Maps?

Don't see much going on here related to Tomtom.
I have Tomtom 7 running on my Tilt, with maps that are getting dated. I see that TomTom has new maps out.
Anyone purchased them yet? I'd hate to get them and then find they don't work. TomTom never has indicated that they support the Tilt. I'm presuming I could get HTC Tytn II.
Of course a more important question: Anyone find USA/Canada maps? I don't see them available on their web site (which is what I have read over and over in the past, but people end up with them from somewhere...and no, I'm not asking where to get them illegally).
TomTom 7?
I'm a newbie on this site, as I just got my new phone. I have a Tilt 2 and i saw your post about having TomTom 7 on your phone - i have NOT been able to find the app, and I do not want to pay for AT&T's navigator service. Can you tell me where i might locate this software? Thanks!

Please try searching before posting. Read this whole thread....
As for the maps, those can be purchased through TomTom's web site.
Try using google and search TomTom 7 qvga!
Apologies Philux-X, I saw ewingr's headline and thought from his post that this was a scarce topic. Thank you!

They do not list USA/Canada maps for Tytn II (I think that is what I would need to order forthe Tilt); they have always denied that Tomtom will work on Tilt. If I purchase them and then the don't work they will not reimburse.
I sent them a message before posting here asking if I can get maps, and have had no response.
I like their product, but I may abandon them when I finally decide my maps are too far out of synch.
