Does ATT know im using a Tilt? - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

OK so i bought an used att tilt from someone and did not notify ATT about it. I purchased a media Net unlimited plan for 15.00 a month (not for pda smart phones) i did this from a att authorized retailer. The guy who added media net for me is a friend and he said he wont make any changes because att thinks i have a razr v3xx and this way i do not have to pay 29.99 or whatever it is for media net for pda's.
Today i signed into my ATT account and under my devices it said att tilt.
I did not make any changes so how did my device change?
Does Media Net report back to att what phone is connecting to the network?
is there anyway to stop ATT from knowing what phone I am using?
I am aware that what I am doing is most likely a breach of contract and do not mind that fact.
Thank You,
KP

AT&T will always know what phone you are using since IMEI numbers are unique to every device.
As for the rest of your questions, hit up the forum search for the answers. (Hint: clicking this link will do the hard part for you.

The answer is yes, they do know. There is no way for you to trick them. You can however call and tell them you want the media net unlimited, because you are the customer. I did this on my blackjack II for a year. They told me it wouldn't work but I am not retarded, it is the exact same service, but people who own 500 dollar phones can afford to pay more. This is also why ATT has a special "email" plan that costs 10 dollars a month, which is funny, because email uses the normal data to work, its not like your buying an email address from ATT. They screw you over and you just need to tell them how it is, "GIVE ME THE MEDIA NET PLAN !"

It's their network, you cannot hide from them.

went to my account on att.com
and changed my phone to razr v3xx
then signed on to media net using razr
then put sim back in tilt and started skyfire
and bam it works

That probably happened because you needed a SIM update and your jigging with the phone caused it to happen.
Also, AT&T always knows, sometimes in business it's cheaper to "ignore" a problem, than to pursue stopping it.

If you are using $15 Media Net service plan you may want to take a look at this thread which offers changes all your data connections to solely use media net.

Very nice indeed my friend.

*update*
just signed onto my account right now and my phone device has been changed back to ATT Tilt...
so how often do they check IMEIs that are on the network or is there any way to stop your phone from broadcasting that info to their network?
if i call ATT and just tell them I am using a MotoRazr will it stick as a razr or as soon as i change my sim into my tilt it will change from razr to tilt because most other threads are reccomending to call them but no one has mentioned if it sticks or after a while your IMEI is recognized as another phone.

i think they finally stoppd with the false data plan promos.. i don't see them available anymore.. they probably pissed enough ppl off

Might I make a suggestion?
Quit trying to rip of your service provider. Soon the will fire you as a customer, then what will you do?

Not so with unlocked touch dual
I just bought an unlocked touch dual and my ATT account still shows the old Razr phone. Also, I did buy the pda plan as work is paying and I'm using exchange sync.
Is an unlocked non-att branded phone not showing up in their system?

@JimmyMcGee, the best member with a Physicist smoking a cigar avatar in the whole wide world!
Congrats, you made a Mod...have fun...
MOD EDIT: I will, Thank you
i'll be a...ha hah..

My understanding is that AT&T has a database with the IMEI #'s for all of the AT&T branded devices, and it checks your device everytime it connects. So the only way to get around it is to buy a 3rd party device (not AT&T branded). But if you do that, you run the risk of MMS not working correctly (showing up as a postage stamp sized image).

Yeah this crappy fact of the matter is that AT&T's mobile network is a private infrastructure. The government doesn't require that they let anyone on. Like they do with Landline infrastructure. So basically AT&T can do what the want, within reason.
AT&T allows unlocked or non-AT&T branded GSM phones on their network because, if the phone works, why not make money off of it?They just won't guarantee a thing. In fact they don't guarantee a thing to AT&T branded devices.
Is it fair to the consumer, maybe not. But that's how it is.

I've had some phones not show up wrong or not at all. I think all the newer handsets ID themselves.

If the phone was originally sold by AT&T (Locked) the the network knows what it is. However if the phone is unlocked (bought from manufacture) then AT&T has no idea what device you are using. It will just show up in the database as "Unknown GSM Device"

They may not go under but they are seriously in trouble.. I have a friend that works for sprint and we were discussing this topic the other day.. Plus there customer service sucks and you get overbilled!
Get on the SERO plan if you switch over to sprint, its the only way I would ever sacrafice quality network coverage over cheaper service....
I ditched Sprint for AT&T myself.
Customer service at Sprint was horrible, coverage was crappy for a "major" area, & their phone selection really does suck.
I'm wondering if I should go back to my 8525 from the Tilt now though... Maybe if I can find a good 6.1 ROM for it...
god that's depressing
I switched from sprint to at&t as well. Network coverage was not good and data was slow as molasses. Mainly I wanted more bars in more places.
I too am a former Sprint cust and would never go back. I hated their poor coverage and terrible customer service. Was just wondering if there was some actual facts or just general Sprint hating.
So the Titan is faster and the only real dif is the tilting screen?

So by this reasoning, Cricket, a **** cell company if ever there was one. Is going under even though they just expanded into my area. They lack a lot of features I require so I don't use it I'm just saying because a company is offereing Unlimited Plan doesn't mean they are going under.
They are however, Going under. You can just see it, like an old man walking down the street. Back in the Beginning when it was the Original AT&T(soon to become Cingular), VoiceStream(soon to become T-Mobile), Verizon, and Sprint. Sprint was the "odd man out." They were barely fourth. Now Years Later they are still fourth, plus they tired to swallow that Fifth Place player, Nextel.

All tethering apps have been removed from the market!

Yeah. The title pretty much explains the situation in the ****ing "open" market. T-Mo decided to use its muscle to remove all apps that let people tether.
Yay open-ness. Seriously. What the hell.
Atleast I still got mine...Ive only had my G1 for a month, its rooted, and ive only used about 400mb (tracking from netsentry) this month using tmobile data.
I like being able to tether, that sucks they removed them..guess people will have to find them online...
sorry but you are wrong, i still see wifi tether for root on the market. sorry but you are wrong there are still tether apps out there, maybe search or update your handset
i have tether still
I still have the android.tether.apk file on my computer. I can reinstall anytime.
I noticed today also that all tethering apps have been removed. Why is this? Glad I already have "wife tether for root users" installed.
Not to be the noob here...but what is tethering?
I also do not see any tethering apps.....
Yes, looks like the tether apps were removed.

Sucks that T-Mo exerted their muscle, but I understand Google's position.
They didn't rip existing installs from devices, and they're not running around threatening to sue people for making the apps available elsewhere. With XDA we'll still be able to get apps like this anytime we want, and even better expert reviews of how well/poorly they work.
you can find some of them here slideme.org
They were removed from the market for a reason. Tmo doesn't want ppl leeching off a newly implement 3g network and causing problem for everyone else. You will use more bandwidth on a computer then through your phone, messing up other peoples experience. This is most likely the reason for the removal. It is an open source device that has the source available to anyone that wants to use it. But if it a service that is not offered by tmo and people are doing it anyway they are going to have it pulled. That is why you root your phone and then you can still use it. Tmo unlike att doesn't charge you and extra $10 or $20 (not sure of the price) to tether devices on there network. It just at this point is not a feature through tmo. It may be right now it is not. Remember it is a new network the 3g is and they are going to want to make sure it is working correctly for everyone. I guarantee that if they could be limited to only using 2g/edge to connect while tethering, it would not be a problem. You can't please everyone, some want consistent wireless service and don't want their rates to go up, some want tether and don't to be bothered to have pay for there own internet for the computer or use a wifi hotspot to connect.
The Irony of this was I was coming to xda to get the updated version of wifi tether. But you can't be mad at tmobile for stopping customer from breaking the rules as it is in your ToS that it is not intended for this purpose. Tmo does a lot of things for its customers as a courtesy and doesn't charge for them like other providers do.

thanks for the heads up, i just coppied anetshare to my SD
I had just performed a wipe when I saw that wifi tether was gone, however it was still in "my downloads"
This effing blows. So much for an open market. If this is how the market is gonna work then it's no better than Apple's app store. I don't care that I can get the apps from other sources, it's a matter of principle.
And the "T-Mo doesn't want people to leech off of their 3G network" excuse does not hold up either because far from all Android devices are running on a T-Mo network. My carrier does not give a damn if I tether or not. I have my 20 gigs of HSDPA per month to whatever I like with and when those 20 gigs are up I get 200 kbit/s unlimited to do whatever I like with. Android is supposed to be independent, not some effing playground where the big carriers can flex their muscles and make the Android experience ****tier for the rest of us. If T-Mo wants to block tethering apps, let them, but don't f-ing block them for all of us, Google.
Do no evil, huh?
I signed up for Web n Walk Max....
http://lastmile.t-mobile.co.uk/data...t_category_id=&product_manufacturer_id=#link6
Being able to tether is part of the T&C. Thats the whole point of getting the "Max" rather than just Web n Walk or Web n Walk Plus......
T-mobile USA doesn't have control over the market. They can ask Google to remove something but doesn't mean its going to happen.

Why would Google go out of their way to jeopardize a very good financial partnership with the only current carrier to offer their OS? I'm not saying I agree with them but it's best to understand both parties motives.

They didn't pull it because they were worried about 3g being affected by the computers if that was the case they wouldn't be selling the 3g data card.

[How To] Easily get your MSL - Root Required (No PC or Verizon involvement Needed)

Saw this on the Evo forums and figured it would help some people out over here that may not have gotten their MSL yet. As the app says it may freeze your phone, if this happens you WILL need to do a battery pull, sorry just a side effect, also this is great for people wanting to flash their phones to other carriers, updating your PRL manually, and a few other uses. Also just about every Verizon phone i've laid my hands on have had the MSL/SPC "000000", so please report back if it differs from this, as i have yet to try it on the Incredible.

There is an app in the market called "MSL Reader". I ran it and it gave me my MSL. Seems like it just came out. If you can, please confirm if it works for you. It took all of two seconds to download and give me my MSL.
The developer of the app is a user on xda called mmastrac and he has a few posts in this thread. Seems pretty cool and responsive to updates. ALL credit goes to him, I just stumbled on the app and happened to post it on xda before he did If you have any issues with the app, you should be able to get a hold of him on here.

Could always try to sweet talk a rep into adding it for you. Something along the lines of: I lost my phone and I have no insurance on the phone. Ummm...because I have 500 anytime, free nights after 7, unlimited weekends, unlimited texts, true unlimited data (no caps) all for the price of $25.43 per month. And most importantly, I'm using an Incredible on it. I won't be giving up Sero anytime soon.
Granted I left Verizon 4 years ago but have been very happy with Sprint. I will say that Verizon does have better coverage but Sprint works fine in my area and I have not had too many coverage issues while traveling.

Wow. If SERO were around for the masses, a lot of us would consider that (if we had friends who work for Sprint). Great price!

Verizon Users How did you get HD Voice if phone came from Google or Motorola

4 calls to Verizon and I am denied having my phone added to either device database for HD voice option. I bought from Google Play Store in Nov 2014. I need to add HD voice option so I can use VoLTE. Four support people filled out a form to have my device added to VZW database and then the option can be added. When trying to add now it fails said unknown device ID.
Motorola supplied me with device ID starts with 35. Verizon refuses to add any device since their Nexus all start with 99 for device ID. Anyone have this battle of issue with Verizon and find a fix?
My next thought is could I use another person Nexus that was Verizon and has the right 99 ID call back to have the feather added and then sway my sim back somewhat like some us did back when we got these phones?

Login to your vzw account online. In the search vzw.com bar search "advanced calling". Click "Get the details" link and you should be able to add it from there.

There's some number you can dial from the handset to activate it I think for a business plan. Search the other threads in this forum and the general forum.
Thx all for the feedback....
And I wonder could I be going about this the wrong way. What I want is the ability to be in the airport while on long business calls and be able to check email so voice & data together.
This is suppose to be "Advance Calling 1.0" or is this HD Voice.....some tell me separate and some say same. If different how does one get "Advance Calling 1.0" only added...
Thx will see if there is a automated number for biz ppl I am SPOC/authorizer for our company and each time enterprise support has come back with a rejection since my device ID is not Verizon

They wouldnt add my imei. It starts the same as yours 355, but they were able to add advanced calling. HD voice is when your talking to another Verizon customer with a HD voice device. Not the same as advanced calling or so I think.
Try this
I have the Nexus 6, purchased direct from Motorola and used on Verizon. From your Nexus 6, dial *611 for Verizon Support. Press 3 for Technical Support and when asked what you want help with, say "Advanced Calling One Dot Zero" and it will add that option. As soon as the phone call was over, it was enabled and working. BTW, this worked for a co-worker with an iPhone 6, we both have government/business accounts.
I bought a moto mini on eBay. It was 40.00. Then activated the feature on the mini. Then Swapped the sim with my nexus 6. I'm on a business plan as well.

They wouldnt add my imei. It starts the same as yours 355, but they were able to add advanced calling. HD voice is when your talking to another Verizon customer with a HD voice device. Not the same as advanced calling or so I think.

I finally got it to working being a corp user with:
1. Used another phone and put my sim in it this phone was a VZW phone. Added all the features, HD, Advance Calling. All done I put the sim back in my N6 and all worked...
2. Did not get a chance to try the automated line as posted in the links to see if it would allow me to add as one user posted
All info given was well received and thank you all

Question S21 Ultra locked? Unlocked? I'm not too sure! Help please.

Hey guys, first of, I want to thank you for reading the post.
So I've recently bought a new S21 Ultra from Korea, on the seller's page it was stated that it's unlocked. The issue I had when I received the phone is that it starts up with the carriers (SKT(Korea Telecomm)) splash screen, and what this means is that when I entered in. I was forced to install all of SKT apps. And I can't disable them or anything. And when I put in my local sim card to test it, I could call people and it was technically working fine. But when I was using mobile data. It only activates 3G/LTE, although my sim is 4G+ and I've been using it with my all phone all the time. I've also come to noticed that there is a SKT connection thing in my setting, and I noticed that my local sim card is actually classified as a overseas sim card. So it's as if the phone is thinking I'm mobile data roaming all the time. I need help with this, is there anyway to get rid of it? I've got a screen shot to explain what's happening.

Looks like it is locked as my unlocked s21u doesn't have a splash screen except samsungs. I would talk with samsung avoid shipping another phone

I think so as well. Man....
No.. what are you talking bout? You didn’t buy it from Samsung? you’re phone is unlocked! How else are you able to make calls?? You would have no service and your phone would give a SIM card error if it was locked. You need to change your APN settings according to your carriers. Thats it you’ll have full speed internet after you change your APN settings, to your US carriers APN, it’s currently on the Korean carriers that’s why it’s showing as overseas. Google APN settings for your carrier.
Your splash screen will always show the Korean carrier cuz it’s their device originally, if you want to change it you have to root it first. Dudes splash says Samsung cuz his is factory unlocked, it never was locked to any carrier. He bought it from Samsung directly which is why there’s no carrier stuff anywhere.
Yo OP if someone says something weird you don’t have to agree with them, you should ask them to clarify instead, that way you can correct them if they’re wrong which in this case you missed, they pointed you in the wrong direction, which certainly didn’t help you. To an outsider like myself you both seem crazy, obviously y’all have no idea what y’all talkin bout and I know it didn’t get resolved cuz the only way is my solution.
Do you reside in Korea, if not why aquire the Korean variant? If you add up all the different S21 Models then factor in all the different Service Provider's it's over one-hundred different variants. That's pretty much on Samsung, no other device manufacturer has anywhere near this many variants, it's absolutely absurd! Anytime you install firmware that doesn't match your device’s Primary CSC you should expect conflicts. If there's any comfort in the fact that thousands if not millions of users are in the same boat as you. If you need full Call Feature Compatibility it's always best to aquire your Service Provider's device. A bit of research goes a long ways when it comes to Samsung's numerous offerings.
You have to change the APN to which ever carriers APN you are using... that simple.
If you don't know how to do so. Let me know
As this post is 10 month old, I guess the issue is already solved long ago...
