I have just tested and can confirm that Touch Diamond comes with native support for mp4 video or video encoded with H.264 codec. Playing back 640x480 30 fps video is smooth both in the HTC video player and the WM player.
Haven't tried on 720p or even 1080p HD video. Will try it when I can get a hold some HD video clips.
Could you tell us what was the bitrate of the video and if it was h264 baseline profile or main profile?
and converted by what software?
I will try a few more clips later this week and give details about bitate, codec, etc. I did one test this afternoon and found that H.264 is supported
As for the software, there is no conversion needed. the phone can play the video that is mp4, or encoded with H.264 natively.
BTW, the latest flash player 9 supports H.264 videos and I expect more and more flash video will be using H.264 in place of the previous On2VP6 or Sorensen Spark codec.

So, is it possible to view a video which has AC3 audio and 720p video (That would downscale it to 640x480 automaticly?)
Thank you for your help!
yes, use coreplayer
Hi,
what do you think, that you have a Core2Duo inside your Diamond ???
You can play it with Coreplayer, but if you wanna see a slowmotion video, then go on. On the other hand, Coreplayer wont play video with AC3 sound (not implemented yet) You need to convert the sound first to mp3 or aac.
Go and transfer the movie to the mp4 format in vga size, with a max AVC 2.1 Profile and max 900kbits for the video, than it would play fluently. Otherwise not watchable.

Guys help me ....
Everytime i want to play a Video with WMP it says "The source filter for the file could not be loaded.". I tried the blackstone encoder which has worked yesterday, when i converted 720p Avatar trailer. But i want to convert an other video, but WMP doesn't play them.
I tried several formats, codecs and bitrates. This damn thing won't work
CorePlayer plays most of the Videos, but lacks video acceleration.
ROM: Valkyrie Firestorm 5.4.23517
coreplayer dude, its the best video player around, with core player what acceleration do you need???
no need to convert avi at 720p with coreplayer, i use all of axxo movies with core player and they show with no video/audio lags, issues or interruptions, and they perform just as good as my dvd player
make sure all ur apps are closed before watching a video for best performance
IMO, windows media player on pocketpc is a joke and is the worst thing on a device, either M$ need to start incorporating codecs or start selling codecs to make it an ultimate media player, i dont even waste time trying to watch a video with WMP
Video specs
Length: 09:45 min.
Size: 62448 kb
Resolution: 800x480
Container: MP4
Video Codec: H.264/AVC
Audio Codec: AAC LC
Video Bitrate: 768 kbps
Audio Bitrate: 96 kbps
Framerate: 25 FPS
H.264 Profile: Baseline 1.3
This video doesn't work on WMP.
And its choppy on CorePlayer 1.3.6.
So what should i do?
try making it divX rather then H.264
It's better with divx but still a little choppy. Any special settings in coreplayer?
A couple of roms I've used had this problem, something with the codec being unavaliable. Just change the rom and you can watch the video on WMP
Just did a hardreset, now it's working.
My video player could play .mkv & .mp4. But there is no audio for it.
could any one please solve this problem.
i have a lot of high definition videos, could not watch them with no audio
you have to make sure it's encoded properly with compatible bit rates and formats
suggestion use DivX to encode
Do you have any videos of 720p which you could play on your sgs?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
download any of the ones from YouTube
or the sample Samsung videos
or any DVD you rip from you rown discs
Firstly, try to shoot a 720p video using your SGS' Video Camera app and see if it will play with sounds. (of course you need to record something with sounds )
the vid will be in .3gp format. let's start from there..
It's most likely a codec issue. Re-encode the sound stream (Virtualdub I believe can do that)
yes i had recorded video at 720p & it is prefectly fine
how to get subtitles in a movie??
is there any app or the default video player can show it??
I wanted to see how an HD movie plays on the G. I tired to play an Apple Quicktime HD Movie trailer and no go. I also tried to play an HD Trailer from Yahoo movies and no go, it said "download failed".
Can the rooted G with TNT 2.4 play HD Quicktime movies? What's the best way for me to test this out?
From what I have read, the g-tablet has some very specific requirements for viewing 1080p files. I know for a fact that it will play MP4 H.264 so I just encode everything to that with Total Video Converter.
I haven't tried to play a .mov yet on it. I have a couple that I downloaded from the web that I should try.
Edit:
Just tried a 1080p .mov that I downloaded from youtube. It plays in Rock Player with software decoding, but really bad.
I suggest downloading hd content to a computer and converting to mp4 h.264 because we know that is supported by the tegra hardware.
I am really disappointed with the quality of video playback on the G Tab. With everyone jiving about the great hardware specs, I don't see great video playback. Unless I don't have it maximized right.
I downloaded a couple of converters and converted movies from mov to mp4, avi, and wmv. I also used Roxio Creator 2009. Nothin greally plays all that great.
What am I missing?
The best converter for the g-tab, in my experience, is Handbrake. I use the built-in Regular-Normal profile and change h.264 to mpeg4 (because tegra 2 has issues with h.264) and it plays completely smoothly at 720p and 1080p.
It plays .mov containers - the Tron Legacy trailers come to mind.
It has some trouble with mkv's and mulitple audio tracks, and HiDef h264 videos that are encoded in "high profile". That's been my experience.

There's no video player (that I know of anyway) at the moment that is designed to take advantage of the tegra2 hardware. Once there is it will fly. The G Tab doesn't seem to support a lot of codecs as well.
I've had success playing 720p x264 MKV's up to 4GB with Rockplayer and ES Video Player.
Excellent. Thanks everyone for the input. I'll check some of these tonight.

Thanks. This converter works great.
Well that didn't take long: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=881835 - Rockplayer 1.5.x (Tegra 2 optimisations)
Has anyone sucessfully played a 1080p video?
I have tried mpeg4, mkv and h.264 and they play but the sync is off and they are very choppy.
According to Nvidia's website the Tegra 2 is supposed to have an on-chip h.264 decoder and encoder on it. But nothing seem to take advantage of it. Even the new Rockplayer with the Tegra 2 Optimization.
If anyone can let me know how you encoded 1080p to play on your tab I would be greatful.
EDIT:
For anyone else looking, I got 1080p to work on mine with Rockplayer 1.51 and hardware decoding. I donwloaded a youtube/vevo 1080p video and ran it through Handbrake. Normal profile, MP4 container and MPEG encoding. It plays FULL 1080p very smooth that way.
Guys, I have a 1280x720P mp4 video, but I can't play it on my phone even with the help of rockplayer and moboplayer.
So I guess conversion is the only way. I just wanted to ask what's your preferences for conversion bitrate,encoder,format,etc...
TIA.
I am using Xilisoft Video Converter Ultimate 6 to convert video files.
Profile: Android - MPEG4 Video
Video Size: 720x576
Duh 320 CBR audio and divx video ofc ;D
But you should be able to play it, try some other players
I'm using Any Video Converter, its a freeware.
Convert to Mp4 using X.264 800x480 resolution 800kbps Video bitrate = flawless quality
what ROM you're using? CM?? try Paul's FR19, and install moboplayer..
Using CM7117, moboplayer works now with a little sound offset.
