Sorry to bring this up again but I have been reading some more and and confused over what should and shouldn't work.
I am running a ROM that is based on the official HTC 5.2.19212. In this is .NetCF 2.0 and all the .NetCF apps I have run on this ROM fine. Now I have previously tried replacing the NetCF folder in SYS in the kitchen for the newer NetCF35 package that is available almost everywhere. When I do this NONE of the .NetCF applications run - MobileCalculator.exe, LiveSearch.exe, WelcomeCentre.exe, catalog.exe etc. I just gave up last time and admitted defeat and just re-cooked .NetCF 2.0 into the ROM.
Recently I read some more and read that .NetCF 3.5 is BACKWARDLY compatible with 2.0 and that there are performance improvements so I thought I would re-investigate this. Anyway same story at the moment - i.e. it doesn't work - however I am wondering if I need anything else in the ROM as well as .NetCF 3.5. This thread seems to say sqlce3.5 is also needed but doesn't specifically say apps like LiveSearch.exe or MobileCalculator.exe will work?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=370772
If anyone has any pointers I would be welcome as I am keen to get .NetCF 3.5 in my ROM.
Cheers
Andy

change your values.
if you have a key of "2.0..." something version in that string, change the value to 0
the "3.5..." whatever key should be changed to 1

Yep, already tried that and still have the same issue.
It seems a lot of people have removed .NetCF 2.0 from their customised ROMs and replaced it with .NetCF 3.5, which is exactly what I want to do. I assume other people don't have the issues I am seeing as pretty standard things like LiveSearch, MobileCalculator and the GettingStarted thing wouldn't work?
If someone could explain what they did when they re-cooked their ROM from the official HTC 5.2.19212 to get .NetCF 3.5 to work I would appreciate the explanation?
Thanks
Andy
You should checkout the cabs in viper series (post #2), you got a good 3.5 cab there whit a configurator. My soft and office version are running 2.0 & 3.5 whit the configurator so you can swap for A to B with ease

I am not really sure why this has been moved as it is ROM cooking related Ho hum....
Anyway looking at the Viper Soft & Office versions you state that .NetCF 2.0 & 3.5 are unistallable so I assume you are installing them post flash using the 'config.txt' (extended ROM like), so you aren't actually cooking both into the ROM. I would be happy to just have .NetCF 3.5 in the ROM but I want my .Net applications to work.....
I specifically read yesterday that .NetCF 3.5 was BACKWARDLY compatible with .NetCF 2.0 and as far as I can tell it isn't, either that or as I said originally I am missing something.
Anyone else able to offer any advice?
Thanks
Andy
Can anybody please help with this as I assume all the Chefs who have removed .NetCF 2.0 and replaced it with .NetCF 3.5 must have hit this issue?
I have re-cooked a ROM and included .NetCF 3.5 and SQLCE 3.5 (replaced the older packages in SYS). If I try and start MobileCalculator.exe (or any other .Net application) I get a dialogue box with the title 'MobileCalculator.exe' and it says:
Cannot open 'MobileCalculator.exe'. A critical component is either missing or cannot start because program memory is unavailable. Tap Start > Settings > System tab > Memory, stop programs that did not automatically stop, and try again.

There is obviously nothing else running as this is directly after a re-flash.
Desperation here....

Some testing.......
I am loosing my mind over this and I am positive someone has been through this already and has a solution but for some reason they are not willing to share it......
OK, testing I have done so far:
1. Build ROM with .NetCF 2.0 in ROM and then install .NetCF 3.5 via the .CAB file - This works and if you change any of the Application Policies via the .Net Configuration tool they seem to work with both .NetCF 2.0 & 3.5
2. Build ROM with .NetCF 3.5 in ROM using one of the OEM packages available - This does not work and none of the .Net applications will run. .NetCF configuration tool shows only .NetCF 3.5 available
3. Build ROM without .NetCF 2.0 OR 3.5 in ROM and install ONLY .NetCF 3.5 via .CAB file - This works and all .Net applications run file. .NetCF configuration tool shows only .NetCF 3.5 available
So based on this testing it seems that .NetCF 3.5 IS backwardly compatible, however getting it cooked into a ROM seems to be a black art. If anyone can help I would be very grateful.
Andy
Success!!!!! well sort of.........
OK, after much faffing around I have got this to work but I am not sure why. I believe the problem was the OEM packages and the 6 modules that are in all of the OEM packages of .NetCF 3.5 I have downloaded. The modules get converted to files during the cooking I am led to believe? However I don't quite understand the module versus file thing?
The 6 modules/files are:
Code:
cgacutil.exe
mscoree3_5.dll
mscoree.dll
netcfagl3_5.dll
netcfd3dm3_5.dll
netcfmail3_5.dll
After much re-flashing, installing/unistalling the .CAB file, manually copying files and exporting/importing of registry entries I ended up extracting the files from the .NetCF 3.5 .CAB file and replacing the 6 modules in the .NetCF35 OEM package. I then re-cooked the ROM and my .Net CF applications are now running again and I only have .NetCF 3.5 in the ROM
I can't believe that all the OEM packages of .NetCF 3.5 I downloaded are flawed as they must work on some devices?
Andy
Sorry, final post, honest....
OK, before I started out I did search. In fact I asked this question a while ago and searched then too.
However, I thought I would search again and widen it a bit (search for only 'netcf' instead of '.netcf 3.5' & 'include in ROM'). There was one thread I found:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=350279
And in here it seems other people were suffering the same issue. Although the answer in that thread is similar to the conclusion I have arrived at, neither thread is quite complete - i.e. why the OEM package with modules doesn't work, but repacked using the files instead of modules does?
If anyone can explain why/how this works like this I would appreciate the explanation or provide some links (I have previously looked into modules but never found a good explanation).
Cheers
Andy
p.s. and after all that I can't really tell the difference in speed of the Kaiser or any of the .NetCF applications...... Maybe I need some native .NetCF 3.5 apps?

How-To build a ROM:
Extract the DEV folder
Extract one ROM to DEV
Extract one OS to DEV
Extract one LOC to DEV
Extract all OEM Packages you need to OEM
Run CreateOS.exe and click the button
Run CreateROM.bat
Done, your new ROM is located at DEV/Temp/NK.nbf
How-To build ur own OEM Package:
An OEM Package is just a simple folder containing files and registry settings for the ROM
First of all you'll need a GUID number for your Package.
Go to http://kruithof.xs4all.nl/ uuid/uuidgen to get one.
In my case:
283b9db7-cb03-4c1b-820e-ca49b2c3b5db
Necessary steps:
1. Create a new folder:
Dev/OEM/[Your package name]/
2. Create a empty text file:
Dev/OEM/[Your package name]/283b9db7-cb03-4c1b-820e-ca49b2c3b5db.dsm
(CreateOS.exe will finish this file for you)
If needed:
3. Create an UNICODE text file:
Dev/OEM/[Your package name]/283b9db7-cb03-4c1b-820e-ca49b2c3b5db.rgu
This file could be used to add registry entries to the ROM
First line is:
REGEDIT4
...
and there MUST be a empty line at the end!!
4. Create an UNICODE text file:
Dev/OEM/[Your package name]/initflashfiles.txt
This file could be used to create folders or copy files on the ROM.
Example: Open Dev/LOC/initflashfiles.dat using a text editor
Copy all files you need to Dev/OEM/[Your package name]/
First Big Thanks to MAMAICH for his great tools that makes this possible, and BEPE for this briliant method of buildin rom that make it really easy for everyone and also BIG Thanks to indra9110 for lot of help, thanks dra...really appreciate it bro...
This is still on test stage, so trust me, something might be wrong or anything, I'm really need an input on this method, since I'm not so familiar with bepe's briliant way, he'll do it better I supposed? hehe....
Midget_1990, xplode, Black6spdZ, thingonaspring, logout , tautara and others input and help will be a huge help for make it better.

Hi helmi, this is real good stuff.
What's the intention however? I quite like the current state of affairs with everyone focussing on one ROM. One ROM to rule them all etc.
Is the idea for people to start creating their own? I'd rather see everyone pull together to produce one fantastic BA WM5 ROM. We aren't all that far away from it just now. But if we start to fragment the effort, it'll slow things right down.
I made many packages for my Himalaya. It would be great to make some place on ftp to share them. This place shouln't be device specific (as I remember some of packages are uploaded into BA or Wizard section)
But better place would some wiki page, where people could write which package works on which hardware.
Also it's good idea to notice in package name which version of software it is, and if it's UPXed or not (I'm UPXing almost all packages gaining about 50% of space)
I have:
AKU 2.2+ Title Bar Clock
AutocompletePL
Call2Contact_1.0
CamRecSvc_by_ADX
Cambridge_bluetooth (Himalaya)
Compact_Framework_2
DKToday 1.80
DSP
DorucenkaSMS
ExtROMUnlock_UPX
File Support
FlightMode (Himalaya?)
GB-SOFT Tweak
MagicButton_2.0_UPX
NetCFVersion
O2_Operator_UPX
PQView
Regedit_PHM_0.70+TRE_0.90_UPX
Reset
SimMessaging 0.04
SoftKeyAppletEx
TaskMgr1.6
Tcpmp_0.72RC1_UPX
TodayAgenda
Toggle
Total Commander 2
TreoSpeedDial_UPX
VJVolubilis_0.41_UPX
WM2k5 SMS Alert Fix (Himalaya?)
WM5 NewMenu_1.0_UPX
WM5torage 1.7 (seems 1.5 is more stable)
XCPUScalar
idiffce_0.3_UPX
Personally i miss AEButton package but can't do it.
Some of them are unfinished (NET CF2 is the most important of them), some of them are untested because i'm still in process of converting new packages
And it would be nice to group packages by type, maybe place them in submenus

its still early stage, we need more people involved, but maybe with thingonaspring here (I believe he ready to put some nice stuff here), midget, blackspz, logout, tautara, xplode , everyone who willing to work as a team, for me its doesnt matter who build/make the rom, I believe we just want a ROM that we can use right? so working together on the fix / update issues would produce a "Best" or "less bug" rom, plus with ability to customizing it for personal use. well, at least that my intention. hopes we all can work together.

this is exactly what I want.. people share their stuff.. and make our BA more rich with feature/option on spesific stuff... yes u might modify anything if u thing necessary (as long u didnt delete it ...lol) and inform about the update, so others know about it.

About ROM Kitchen and 'the One ROM'
The ROM Kitchen is a wonderful idea.
IMO, things should walk towards stabilizing a base ROM with all features working (including WModem ).
But we also shouldn't leave to the users the effort to create their own ROMs, that's too troublesome.
Maybe all devs could get closer together and agree on some tools to integrate to it, and call it the 'XDA ROM', instead of Bepe, Helmi, TuMa or whatever.
So, we could have a 'BASE ROM', meant to be used on the ROM Kitchen, and the XDA ROM supported by all devs, built from the BASE ROM with tools which were agreed to be useful, so the less geeky can have a nice working ROM to update their BAs with. With things like PHM regedit, ability to choose between BT stacks, GB Soft Tweak and other useful stuff.
That does not stop the devs from having their own name branded ROMs placed on the site...
Agreed, a base ROM system is the best of both worlds. Say I was to pickup a base ROM and build on it, is there anything I can do that can't be done using ExtROM installers? Sure, you get to put stuff in the ROM, but it's already stuffed full it would seem!
I remember reading about an anti-theft application that you could put in the ROM. If the phone number changed, it would start sending you text messages telling you about the current owner/thief. Is this an option for the BA once we get a kitchen?
I will test it tonight after work, , i will test my latest SAP package and maybe if it works OK i will post it in this thread
i still have to dump some devices roms to see what can i get from them, at this moment i have new versions of CommManager and WlanMgr and maybe fix for wifi integration, but first should test it...
Once again i want to thank everyone involved in WM5 development for BA
It will be a very long list .. so i will mention just a few names:
mamaich, bepe, helmi, logout, tuatara, Midget_1990 and many more
Right way to roll in UPXed system apps?
OK, I have just decompressed all files, but I have no OEM packages rolled int yet.
I have tested many UPXed system dlls and exes, and I would like to roll them in to save space, in place of the original ones.
Where do I put them?
Attempted to build a base rom from the files provided and i am getting an error after clicking on CreateOS. The error is "Error: OS\2849e391-1e39-4a98-87b9-53932dec51d3 is not listed in packages.sof". How do you add or remove packages listed in the sof file or is that possible? How can i remedy this error?
Thanks in advance
i have 3 errors for 3 folders in os folder, i just moved them into oem folder
more results soon
I had the 3 errors too, and moved the files to OEM. The ROM image was built (apparently) was successfully built.
BUT, the million dollar question is:
How much free space do we have without adding any OEM stuff at all (a BARE ROM)?
We need to know our KB budget to know how much we can roll in...
I have the same error. What did you move exactly?
OK i have it.
It's:
2849e391-1e39-4a98-87b9-53932dec51d3
e3055288-19cd-4317-9125-a63654628fb3
fb30fdba-23d9-4a92-af78-041b1ee1d46c
Move them from the OS directory to the OEM directory

When you get the error, move the folder with that name to OEM.
Another subject:
Hey all,
I have unpacked the ROM (nk.nba), replaced all folders ending with .exe and .dll with the actual file contained in each, and UPXed all exes and dlls.
Suspicious files are automatically skipped by UPX, and I compressed them with 'upx -i --compress-exports=0 --compress-resources=0 --strip-relocs=0', because when I was testing compressing (Office) with the default options, it didn't work. All compressible files worked, with these options.
The 'dump' contents went from 52,3 MB to 30,6 MB.
The catch: I don't know if the nk.nba generated from them will work
I haven't tried repacking it into an nba and flashing a ROM. Does anyone want to experiment with this file?
EDIT:
After BuildImgfs.exe finished, it reported the following:
Total Sectors: d2a8
Used Sectors : b984
Free Sectors : 1924
In decimal: 53928,47492,6436.
How big is a IMGFS sector? 512bytes? 1KB? more?
/EDIT
i did it with a few files
simply deleted them and created OEM package with UPXed versions
My Himalaya is flashing now AKU 3.2!
It flashed ok, hovewer entering BT settings hangs device
I will wait for Bepe
EDIT: BT stack is my fault cause by UPXing it
i create my rom ... very fast
but when i turn off my 9090 , it don't turn on ( display is balack)
any solution?
hi,
how to build a SD-Card Images?
I tried a very simple thing and it worked!
Just replace the tnetwln.dll by one comming from an AKU 3.3 ROM like Faria's (or the one in the attached .ZIP file). It's as simple as 1-2-3:
1. copy the attached tnetwln.zip to your Wizard,
2. explode tnetwln.dll and copy itto \Windows with Total Commander,
3. soft reboot your machine (with psShutXP or equivalent).
At the next reboot you will support WPA2 and WPA2-PSK with AES encryption!
I tested this on the original Orwell1984 crossbow ROM.
Enjoy!
eluth.
it works!! thanks! i tested this with wpa2-psk and it connected flawlessly. time to integrate into my rom...
notyourdaddy,
I'm about to do that too (integrate it in my own ROM).
So far I was successfull in replacing the tnetwln.dll module (aka directory as output of viewimgfs) by the tnetwln.dll file (in the attached zip) and rebuild the ROM.
This works, however I don't know how to re-create a module and relocate it.
Is there a tool to do so? I check on the forums but could not find something compelling...
damn this is so simple, i wonder why faria didnt tell abt that no1.
WPA2-PSK is working anyway without your fix for me, is this a problem with specific Crossbow ROMs?
Using Orwell's at the moment.

seems that u have dll from aku 3.3 integrated in wm6 rom, i prefer clean roms.
This was the main reason I haven't taken the plunge and installed Crossbow on my Wizard, excellent news this works
I have had a quick look at how to cook my own ROM but I have so far left it alone. Ideally I would like all the nice parts from Faria's AKU 3.3 ROM but with the Crossbow base - any takers

Hi
I was wondering if anyone can post the version of tnetwln.dll of a pre AKU 3.3 rom? I have Core2.0n on my Wizard and I am having trouble with my Wi-Fi. before I declare my wi-fi radio completely an utterly crippled I would like to attemt rolling back to the older version of tnetwln.dll
The 1 in Core 2.0n is the same as the 1 posted in the first post..
Any help is greatly appreciated.
I've looked all through the Kaiser forum but could not find the information I needed about the new .NET CF 3.5. I found some information in the general discussion section but did not find a solid answer. I found the cab installer which I installed. But I am unsure of how to uninstall the old .NET CF 2.0. I thought I read somewhere about going into registry and in HKEY_LOCAL MACHINE > Software > Microsoft > .NETCompactFramework if I made the 2.0.7045.00 value = 0 and then made the 3.5.7283.00 = 1 then that would disable .NET CF 2.0. That is not that case. Help? :]
not released yet
it doesnt work yet, i seen a dutty rom containing this but i highly doubt it's 3.5 since you cant even manually install this yet

There was a post in the ROM development forums with steps to do what you're asking.
Wish I could be of more help, but I can't seem to find it myself in a search...
Perhaps another member can find and link it for you (and put it on the wiki? )

You can manually install this, as the OP states, he found a cab and installed it. There are MANY threads on .NET CF 3.5 stating this too.
FYI, most chefs choose to cook in .NET CF 3.5 these days because of the performance gains.
*edit* Last I checked .NET CF 3.5 is RTM, so your statement of it being 'not released' is somewhat true. There is no shipped ROM with .NET CF 3.5 last I checked. But you can download from Microsoft and install it yourself.
I installed CF 3.5 on my TyTN II and couldn't run Live Search anymore. When I started Live Search, it would immediately throw an exception and exit. I had to uninstall CF 3.5 to get Live Search working again.
YMMV, but it something to consider. Oh, and I did, and still do, have CF 2.0 installed.
I think this is the Link _Alex_ is on about (found it on about page 10 of the Kaiser ROM Dev Forum, 20 post per page ).

Yup! I installed it and enabled it by changing the registry value as describe in the link posted above. No ill effects. Everything is so far working AND working faster - applications open faster, scroll faster.
i tried to install CF 3.5 which was downloaded from Microsoft but I got Installation error with "support info: 3" all the time
anyone have any clues?

the 2th hit in my google search is just about that error code
.NetCF 3.5 works with all my existing .NetCF apps....
I have been trying to get .NetCF 3.5 in my ROM based on the official HTC 5.2.19212 ROM but had been having no luck. Unlike you if I installed the .NetCF 3.5 .CAB on my device whether it had .NetCF 2.0 installed on none all my existing .NetCF apps worked. I now have an OEM package of .NetCF 3.5 that I have included in my ROM (no .NetCF 2.0) and all my apps still work - LiveSearch, MobileCalculator etc

But it dont tell you anything.......about fixing it
My very first successfully cooked ROM
**WM6.1 CE OS 5.2.19214 (Build 19214.1.0.4)
SYS & XIP from Kaiser Official Rom
Stock-like Rom with stock like functions.
Get it Here: http://jmaverion.net/treo750/WM6.1build19214.rar
Since I desperately needed a WM6.1 with a higher build than the standard 19199 for work, I set out to learn how to cook a higher build rom. After 3 days of work and a bunch of failed roms I did it. This is my very first cooked working rom. Seems pretty stable. Please review and mention any bugs....One bug to mention is that OneNote installs itself into another "Office Mobile" folder creating an extra Office Mobile folder.
Congratulations! Do you think it is possible to build a wm6.5 rom with this kitchen or is it straight wm6.1?
Greetings
Need good recipe for installing new ROM
What post has easiest directions for installing ROM? Flashing phone is needed? but not sure what that entails or requires (sofware?)...
after short test:
- in programs is folder Office mobile multiple
- missing skin for Windows media
- bottom bar sometimes is not changing skin or on click show old skin
+ storage free 53Mb
+ palm messaging etc.
keep work and good luck to next relase
What about WM6.5? Can you cook WM6.5? because Veisen ROM is only beta.

Look for the Unlocking and Unbranding post. It has the easiest directions for unlocking you phone and putting on the HardSPL for flashing custom ROMS
as for installing custom roms on a phone already HardSPL'ed just use that flasher I included in the download.

Thanks for the feedback. TO add to the list of bugs for this version, I found that with SPB Mobile Shell 3 and HTC Home installed, after making a phone call it seems to have a memory leak.
As for the request of a WM6.5 for the treo, I'll start working on one next week. I have exam finals this weekend.
The link is not valid. Anyone care to post new link?
Hi friends!
I think the topic pretty much says it all;
This is a native WM 6.5 Kovsky OEMXIPKernel/xip.bin/nk.exe - aware of the new Slot 60/Slot 61 Module virtual memory layout - what does this mean for you as a chef?
Now you don't have to recmod any modules in \SYS anymore, to port over WM 6.5! And you have 64mb free to convert more files to modules!
But you will need to use a relocation tool that is aware of the new memory layout;
Ervius Visual Kitchen + Bepe's New Kitchen do this with the "Real WM 6.5 AKU" checkbox
There's also a build of "WMReloc" 2.0 floating around that may support this, that would be compatible with the "old style" kitchen (buildos + g'reloc, it would replace g'reloc)

nice!!! thnx i have been waiting for this for a while now!!! thnx

visual kitchen v10.2 with XPR.... i noticed that the rom date is not valid....
can someone explain what this means to the layman please? you guys seem very excited about this
does that mean we should be excited about it as well? what are the benefits etc plesase
integrate to visual kitchen for kovsky
now have "real" wm6.5 on my device.
Big thanks Br.
Don't seem to be able to change the date with xipporterex in visualkitchen, when I press "Find Date/Version on \ROM\Xip\" is gives the following (see attached image).
So I'm not able to change the year since it is not loaded from ROM.
Anyone knows how to fix?
Very interested this. But not really sure if I understand what it is. Can someone correct me if I'm wrong. This is an ROM folder for the xperia? Not an Ported one but a real one right?
@Lokatho:
This is a common problem with XIPPorterEx and newer nk.exe - the method it uses to figure out which string is the version string does not work properly - if you change those incorrect values it's likely something will break.
Instead - use a hex editor, search for your version string - find it, and change it in the hex editor
This will work fine
The issue is with XIPPorterEx's algortihm - maybe you can report it to ervius, and he'll fix it up
very nice
thank you very much
not really sure what this is. but will it somehow bridge the big performance issue with x1 and the HD or TD2 (almost same specs but noticeably faster perormance)?
Does anyone still have this file? The link no longer works. Thanks.
