Hi All,
First of all I hope I'm at the right place as this is my first post and I'm new to PDA's worlds. I just bought a HTC Kaiser and tried to install the spb GRPS monitor which was included on the CD. The installation said:
Unable to install application. Please update your device ROM to the required version before trying again.
I had 1.82.707.0 WWE ROM and yesterday I upgraded it to 3.28.405.0 WWE. Both the original and the updated ROM cause the same error when I try to install this program. I thought the PDA come from the manufacturer with the original ROM and the shops doing maximum a language install to the current country. It seems they modified something on the ROM? Can I install somehow this legal software (without cracking it and which will not be a trial version software)?
thanks
Seems quite weird. Try going to SPB's site and downloading the latest version from there, and use the registration number you received to register the software.
There is also a program called BatteryStatus, which is freeware (use google to search you'll find it right away), which does sort of the same thing.
I use to use SPB GRPS Monitor, and never ran into this issue.
Where did you get the CD from that has the software anyway? I am pretty sure HTC wouldn't include a 3rd party software on a CD if you got the phone from them, or if it was new in box. The version you have might be really old and you may need to purchase the latest version anway.
Hope that helps.
go to spb software house website and download the update exe/cab file
try it and let us know if it works or no?

apologies i did not read zakhir suggestion we both propose same solution

I got an original new HTC box which included the CD (it seems original HTC as it contains HTC logo copyrights etc... and I think the box original as I got an original HTC varranty card with the device). May be it's an old version and may but I think it will not be a trial SW. I hope as it is a good program But may be not. I can't remember if there is any S/N for the SW and I'm at work atm. I'll check it later.
jahrami:
Thank you for the advice! Actually (in a fast search) I couldn't be fount update for GPRS monitor (as I said I'm at work atm so it was a really fast search). I'll search later again when I will be home. Anyway if I remember correctly somewhere on spb's webpage I read something about upgrade a product (not the GPRS monitor) and the upgrader should it purchase again. (?) Not sure... I'll chack this option later so I just wanted to do some reaction for your post
Thank again the advices!
best regards!

Ok... I want to upgrade my PDA2k, but am a bit on the chicken side. Has anyone created or cooked a COMPLETE ROM for the PDA2k that they can post a download link to?
I can do the flash myself, but don't know how to cook a ROM and don't have the tools. I would appreciate any help I can get.
Thanks!
ROM Upgrade
Read this site. It's all here.
This FTP site has the ROM for Blue Angel. I used this one to upgrade my PDA2K. Works much better than the released version. Only problem is with sound after using the built in MS PocketPC CLOSE command; just don't use it, use another program like "Launcher" that has it's own CLOSE command which does not cause the problem.
Here is the FTP link: ftp://ftp.xda-developers.com/BlueAngel/BlueAngel_Roms/BA_1.40_radio_1.20_untested_extrom/
ChrisSpera,
Can you post a reply once you do the upgrade? I'd like to do it too, but I'm not as sure as you are on what to do. I also have a PDA2K from the US and would like to know how it goes.
Thanks,
Tom
Well, I got a little help from one of the patrons of this site, and I did get my PDA2k flashed with the 1.40 ROM, 1.12 Radio, and am working with a somewhat baked extended ROM. I've actually been tweaking it most of the day.
If you're using Cingular with your PDA2k, make certain that you grab the Cingular settings file from Club i-mate. You'll need those, as the settings in the SX66 ROM I used aren't quite right, though they work. Applications that automatically dial out via GPRS will not function correctly with the Connection Settings in that ROM. I am working with the guy that helped me to test the fixed connection settings, and when they are fixed, I'll let you know.
If you're using T-Mo, then make sure you get THOSE settings from Club i-mate and use those instead.
All is good, though! It works! I did have one hiccough, though; as my PC lost connection with the device BEFORE any flashing started. I bounced the box, leaving the device in the cradle, and was able to pick it back up from the beginning without any problems.
The device seems snappier. It connects to the PC faster, and boots faster. Pretty cool all told!
Thanks for the feedback! I hate to say this but I already started. It's been pretty slow in the office today, so I said...what the hell...and went for it. Wish I knew about the tmobile thing though. I'm just finishing the upgrade.
Where do I put the tmo information? Or, what do I do with it?
Tom
Chris,
What version is your extended ROM? Mine is 1.22.162 WWE
BTW, mine had the same problem with losing the connection. It's happened twice now. I updated my radio and the same thing happened. Strange.
Tom
I am using the SX66 1.40.110 (i think) version of the extended ROM.
If you go to the support area on club imate, and click on the Operator settings link in the support downloads area, you should be able to find a download link for a CAB that installs T-Mo connection settings. download it and use it to create your connections settings on your device.
I downloaded it and installed it. Didn't find it real helpful. I still had to go through everything to get mms and email setup. Oh well. Thanks for the tip though.
I've had it up and running for the past 24 hours and while I think the OS works a bit better I can't see a huge improvement. The phone is more responsive though.
Any notes on changes would be helpful. I did notice that the BT connects had a strenght signal now, which I find really helpful.
Question: Was this upgrade supposed to do anything to the extended ROM? Because the version is the same as before.
Thanks,
Tom

I just comprehended your post. Sorry about repeating the question when you already answered. How, or why, should I upgrade the extended ROM? I take it the upgrade I just did did not put the upgraded files in the extended ROM?
Tom
The extended ROM, which is about 16MB in size holds the custom software that comes on the device. You don't have to upgrade it at all. You can leave it be if you're happy with the software that's there.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but shouldn't the upgrade that was just performed by you and I install the new files into the ext rom automatically? Or, do I have to do it manually....copy the cabs from the laptop to the ext rom?
I've just been reading about cooking an ext rom and I'm going to give it a shot.
Tom
that depends on the files the update contained. Look for *.nbf files in the temp folder you launched the update from. What was in there? MS.nbf is the OS, radio.nbf is the phone and nk.nbf is the extended ROM.
I think I screwed something up. radio.nbf and nk.nbf were in the temp file but MS.nbf was not. Was it in yours? I believe I pulled the same file as you did from the link provided but there's no mention of it in there.
I also took a look at my extrom folder and none of the files that were listed in the link are in there nor loaded. I guess I'm getting things confused. Did you copy all the cabs into the extrom folder then run BAUpgradeut.exe? I just ran BAUpgradeUT.exe and thought they'd copy them over. I think I was wrong.
Tom
Hi all,
Following on my problems with installing tomtom on the Kaiser shiped ROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=349842), I would greatly appreciate if someone can provide me with an English dumped ROM that includes tomtom, or allows for tomtom to be installed without having to perform some sort of hack to do so.
Thanks in advance...
TomTom was never included in the ROM. It was on the CD that came with the phone.
Right, but this means that your version of the OS is allowing tomtom to be installed...
Mine gives me an error message thet I have to upgrade my ROM before trying to install.
Also on the HTC shop site, where you can buy tomtom, it clearly states that it will work only on devices that were shiped with tomtom on the first place.
Therefore, I assume that your version will be the one that allows to install tomtom flawlesly...
So if it's not too mutch trouble...

locate the cab file, mine gave me the same error when installing from pc. just run the cab and it should load, no problemo
I have the hong kong version tytn II, and installed the tom tom and downloaded a free map without any problem, i just install it for the fun of it, since tom tom in hong kong is useless, downloaded the cab from somewhere.
In hong kong tom tom is non existance, we use map king, so i think as long as the ppc is wm5 or 6, in should be ok to install.
kms
if i reflash my rom, will i be able to download another free map? i kinda downloaded the wrong city. THanks.

I tried that and it's not working... Krypt told me about how to overcome this in the tread mentioned in my original post, but this way I can only start the executable by going there with file explorer.
What I wanted to do is to have tomtom listed in the start->programs folder. I suppose there is a way to do so by tampering with the registry, but I have no clue as to how to do it.
Just got on a plane and found out that the WM 6.1 update seems to have killed my HTC remote control for controlling Audio Manager or Windows Media.
It's one of these: http://www.negrielectronics.com/product_info.php?currency=USD&products_id=1067.
Anyone else run into this? Theres posts on installing the audio driver for other phones, but I don't find one for the Kaiser floating around out there.
There is an updated remote control driver for WM6.1. It can be donwloaded from HTC e-club.
Ah. For anyone that's also looking, it's not on the HTC US site. You have to hit the HTC Europe page and then it will show up.
Interesting. I grabbed the driver and ran the install and the app tells me I have the latest version installed. Won't overwrite or let me reinstall.
Anyone else having this issue? The control still isn't working and I can't tell what the cab files are looking to overwrite to force the install through.
Same issue after new HTC rom update
Any solution ?

Instal the WM 6.1 compatible driver from HTCs website off the bat or if the old version is installed first, hard reset and then install just the latest driver. Why anyone would want the current HTC official WM 6.1 'upgrade' (at least a WWE version) is an important question.
hi Flying Kiwi, I guess the main reason of the upgrade is bug fixing which I guess now is solving some adding others
I'm a new HTC user more used to symbian devices before.
The nokia updates are always good, so I thought it was the same for HTC.
I guess I was wrong.
I followed many times the installation procedure, but I always get the same result :
- Drivers already existing on the PC
- GetDeviceInfo.exe error on the Touch pro.
I guess the GetDeviceInfo error is the source of the pb. Maybe a pb with the ROM itself.
Thanks
Michael

Sorry I don't have one of these remote devices to test with - I just assumed (and we know what that results in) that from gauntman's post there was a WM 6.1 compatible driver but all I've been able to find is a very elderly cab (after renaming the file to have a zip extension) - gauntman please point us to a new version that does work if you know of it.
IF you have a stock ROM/Radio/SPL and the remote isn't working and installing the driver doesn't fix it or results in an error installation then my suggestion is to try the headphones that come with the remote and ensure they're fully plugged in. If that still doesn't work then it's time to contact HTC!
I tried this updated version found Here,
But the problem described is the one described.
Is there anyway to uninstall a driver without rebuilding the ROM ?
Sorry for the newbie question, but just an idea.
Maybe I should go for a stable cooked ROM and install the drivers on it.
But if not working i will cry lol

That's the one I was referring to, maybe gauntman knows of something newer.... In the meantime have you tried what I suggested ie restoring it to a stock HTC state and testing again with the headphones that came with the remote fully plugged in? If that doesn't work then it's fair and square a HTC issue to resolve.
Thanks I really appreciate your feedback.
Yes I actually did a hard reset.
The stock headphone is working fine.
So far the RC E100 has no sound problem, just the button issues.
I guess not a mini usb issue, but really a driver pb.
I contacted HTC about the last ROM and their accessory, let's see if the reputation of their technical support is as good as their product
Thanks
Michael
Dear all Kaiser anchestor,
I have a problem with my Kaiser. I really hope that all of you can help me. Ok? Please....
This is the problem :
At the begining, My HTC Kaiser run so slowly, sometimes freezing (Condition WM 6.1 with it's SPL 1.56)
After I read the same problem in jockyw2001 thread, then I tried to flash My device SPL to 3.28 (with the step in front of that thread and the SPL from that thread too)
Flashing the SPL to 3.28 was successfully and my device run fast now
BUT!!! I can't Enabled my WiFi!
Next, I tried to Re-Flash my SPL to 1.56 again, and it's done successfully. But, the WiFi still can't be enable.
Next step, I tried to downgrade the ROM to WM 6, and WHAT!
I still can't Enable my WiFi!
Now, I'd upgrade to WM6.1 again (official ROM from HTC website). But, the WiFi still can't be enable.
The condition when I enable the WiFi is loading then turn off by itself. What's the problem?
I really need all of your help for this.
This is my Device Information:
ROM Version :3.29.707.0 WWE
ROM Date : 05\07\08
Radio Version :1.65.16.25
Protocol Version : 25.83.40.02H
After upgrade to WM6.1, My Bootloader now is:
KAIS130
SPL-3.29.0000
CPLD-8
I'm stress already. Hope all you may spare some of your time for help me to solve the problem. Thanks before. For more detail, just watch the video that I record when tried to enable the wifi.

Since you're interested in running the official HTC WM 6.1 version on your TyTN II then why not simply run the HTC Upgrade program which will reinstall everything required (SPL, Radio and ROM) in one easy go rather than have to upgrade this and that, bit by bit? If you have an official TyTN II you can get it from HTCs e-Club/Support or you can also download it from the XDA Kaiser Wiki ROM page. Note that my SPL is 3.28.0000 and thats all through the official upgrade path so maybe your SPL has something to do with it? See if the official upgrade installs on your device otherwise you'll have to revert to the correct SPL before trying again. Note that the newest WWE ROM upgrade now also comes with a (slightly) better radio as in my sig. Remember to take your sim and memory cards out before attempting the flash.
***Edit*** Just realised you're running the SEA rather than WWE HTC ROM I'm using so yes 3.29 looks to be the right SPL for your ROM, the rest still applies though.
Hmm...
Sorry Mr Flying Kiwi, I think you didn't read the message completely. I've already re-flash from OFFICIAL ROM WM6.1 from HTC e-Club. But, the same problem. It's not fix yet. I've reflash over than 5 times, downgrade to WM6 over than 2 times. an the result is the same. My WiFi Cannot be enable. I hope you can play the video that i record from the links up there (440kb only), so you will know my problem.

I read it alright but as you've not done it *using the officially supplied HTC upgrade package (not just the ROM file within it from HTC e-Club)* I reccomend you give that a try. No special hard spl version is reqd and as long as you have an official ROM to start with and you're upgrading or reinstalling the same ROM version, it's simply a case of running one file and following the instructions. Once you've got the reflash to run that way and completed the process, simply hard reset and then test your Wifi before installing anything further.

Perhaps the capturing program over Activesync may be interfering with things (but I did view your wmv). What I am sure of is that if you have the correct ROM matched to your device and correctly installed with the right spl and radio, Wifi should work fine. Running the official upgrade is the easiest way to get this but if there is something non-official about your current setup, the upgrade program may refuse to run. Let us know if that happens. It's clear that you didn't do this in the beginning because you ended up with the wrong spl version for your rom so it's time to do it the official 'HTC Customer' way.
Hahaha.... thanks for your information. I'd tried yesterday. And still no response. ugh.... Btw, I've read from another thread (Athena). They said that someone ever got a problem like this. The cause is the WiFi MAC Address is missing/erased? Is it possible? I thought that MAC Address is a serial number of WiFi such as an IP, where saved in WiFi chip/device and cannot be erase. If do so, how to set an MAC address to the WiFi module? Do you have an idea? I'd tried to have a silly search about that address in Registry, but I cannot find any key that sounds about MAC Address. (Mac Gyver maybe?)

I was offering serious advice not pulling your leg. Now, when you say 'still no response yet' - precisely what do you mean (exactly what did you try and what happened)? I've flashed my Kaisers ROM a couple of times now using HTC official ROM upgrading packages and it's gone perfectly fine. As far as the MAC address goes, I know there are ways of changing it (because there is an extremely small possibility that you may end up with two identical MAC adresses on the same network and this will cause problems) but this won't be the culprit in your case. I think (again) the first thing to do is to use the official package (and only that - no additional tools/utilities are reqd) to get everything in order and let us know how that goes and what versions of everything you end up with.
This is the information that appears in my device now after re-upgrade the official ROM from HTC e-Club:
File name : RUU_Kaiser_DOPODASIA_WWE_3.29.707.0_radio_sign_25.83.40.02_1.65.16.25_Ship.exe
KAIS130
SPL-3.29.0000

ROM version : 3.29.707.0 WWE
ROM date : 05/07/08
Radio version : 1.65.16.25
Protocol version : 25.83.40.02H
Btw, may i ask a question? I found something strange about a MAC address. Yesterday I'm not intention open the "Wireless LAN" from Settings > Connections > Wireless LAN
In Advance tab, there are Status, MAC, and IP. My Question is is the MAC address serial appears even you didn't enable a WiFi? In my device it's empty.
Btw, bro... I've been search a problem like this in this website. I've found the same problem in Athena thread. They said that the MAC address is missing, but some one make a fix but only for Athena.
this their URL: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=387454&highlight=Athena+WiFi+Problem&page=5
Thanks & sorry if i waste your time in solving my wifi problem

That looks right to me but if you haven't yet ran the upgrade file above to flash to ROM you need to do it the official way and try that. If Wifi is still behaving as in your video do a hard reset and try again (before loading any additional software).

In mine it's empty too but if you go back in after enabling Wifi, theres a MAC address in there. I really don't think your problem has anything to do with the MAC address but if you've tried all of the above and still can't get it working, as you appear to have an official setup, it's time to contact Tech support and get them to go through some checks over the phone with you. Hahaha... thanks. Btw, I have another problems.
I bought this device from other country (Singapore). My friends said, the Singapore HTC can view the device history. They can see if the device already being flash how many times and anything unofficial program such as SPL or radio, then the warranty wil be void. Because, my friends already have such a problem also with his device Dopod U1000 (Even he revert to his original SPL or radio).
I think i should throw this device or sell it out and buy the new one. Hiks...

Doesn't it make sense to at least try what's been suggested first? What have you to loose? The hardware company have no need to know what 'ROM Action' has occurred in the past and who knows what any people you've leant your TyTN II to may have done with it..... They only need to know how it is now and whether it's currently official (ie flashed using the HTC upgrader).

Im having the same problem... my wi-fi do not turns on! I have flashed this a lot of times, and sometimes works, sometimes dont.
Does anyone have any ideia about this? im stressed becouse i have the same problem... could anyone tellme a good radio in order to try to solve this issue? thanks
Wi-Fi issues
This has worked for me, dont know if its the same case with you or not.
My device was never able to connect to my Wifi n/w at home. If I went to start -> setting -> connections -> Wifi, it would show my home n/w as available, when I tried to connect to it, the status changed from Available to "connecting" then became available again.
In my home n/w I had access type authentication as WEP keys + Mac address filtering. My device was added to the MAC address list so that was not a problem. The issue was access point authentication which was set to WEP keys type authentication on my router. Once I changed from WEP keys to WPA-PSK (data encryption type TKIP) my WM was able to connect to the router.
I have HTC tytn II and its wifi is not searching any other wifi devices or router even in very close range , but wifi is turning on and the green light is also blinking
So, is there a hardware problem?
I did 3.29 hard spl , hard reset ,hard spl 3.34 , but the result is same.
and in network adapters IEEE 802.1b/g goes down and down in the list of network adapters , please HELP.! and sorry for my bad english

Hi guys,
first of all, thank you for this awesome forum. I've been a frequent visitor in this forum and I've already found a lot of useful tips but now I need your help because I don't know what to do anymore.
First of all a brief explanation: I'm using a Kaiser (German Vodafone branding). My old device has been replaced by Vodafone due to a hardware defect. Vodafone gave me completely new device with the following data:
Windows Mobile 6.1 Prof
CE OS 5.2.19122 (Build 19122.1.0.3)
ROM-Version: 3.28.162.2 GER (this is the latest version)
I used exactly the same version on my old device and the program mentioned above Go Suite v. 0.91 does not work with my new Kaiser anymore, however it worked great with my old device. Go Suite requires two further programmes in order to run:
Go Suite v.0.91 (GoSuite.ARMV4.cab - can be downloaded here
netcf.all.wce4.ARMV4.cab
PocketGnuGo.ARMV4.cab (also downloadable on the same website)
I followed the installation manual step by step but it still doesn't work. I've tried everything possible to get the software started. However, this was the first program I installed on my Kaiser (well, I tried).
If you need further information feel free to ask me. Neither Go Suite nor Windows show any error reports, only the launching symbol shows up for a couple of seconds after clicking on the icon.
I'm sorry that I can't give you more detailled information about the error. Is there any tool or a possibility to get to read the Windows error report? If you know one, just let me know where to get it and I'll deliver further details.
I hope you can help me - I'm sort of desperate since I really need this programme and I don't know what to do.
Thank you!
Harald
