Diamond TV out? - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV General

Hi everyone,
Great site, as you can probably tell I am a newbie to the community. I was wondering if its possible to have TV out functionality like the Touch Pro states, via a app or mod or hacked ROM?
I have searched but found nothing on the topic, and my original post was in the ROM section but was deleted...hopefully this is the right place to post, it does follow the rules for posting anyway.
Cheers

Fair play for trying the search (needs words over 3 characters) - I had troubles when I joined as my search words produced too many results.
To avoid being flamed just browse about and check in regulary to keep up to date. It was only on page 5, and there is a desire to keep threadcounts/duplicates down. Will make it easier for all

simply try a search, it will get you the answers you need:
http://www.google.com/cse?cx=000825...tvout&sa=Search&cof=FORID:0&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8

Thanks for all the responses...great info, and a great site.

Keep all Tutorials up as stickes.

Please put up stickies for all tutorials. then we wont have duplicate treads and i think it will be easier for everyone.

You wouldn't have to duplicate threads if you search.
I think it will be a great idea if we can put SOME topics as stickies, but not too much.
I also would be very pleased if we can have a moderator that would be real "active" on the forum, in other words, that deletes topics from one-time-posters with questions that are asked about 1000 times. That will keep the forum(s) a bit cleaner and better to search.
If I search for TomTom or Rom Upgrade now, I will get a lot of search results, but the pain in the ass is that about half of the results are questions of one-time-posters/noobs that didnt use the search function.
Also I get a lot of PM's with noob questions from people that have 0 posts and are not active on the forum(s), but I think a lot of members here have the same problem. I am always willing to help, but for now I stopped replying to simple questions from people that have 0 posts, just because I know that all the answers are in the forum, so you will come to the conclusion that they didn't use the search function at all.
And no....I dont wanna volunteer as mod
Molski
The simple answer would be use (and update) http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Wizard When I had a universal it was always my first port of call at the begining
Problem with this is that someone will write a post on how to open a can of coke. What qualifies this as a tutorial? If someone pms me asking for it to be made sticky, I'll see how the thread grows, and if the community are finding it truly helpful, I'll make it sticky. However, then we'll end up being overwhelmed with 3pages of stickies even before you get to current posts.
My idea, which I proposed to the mods, is first to detail your post titles, eg
[new release] VJNubilous - makes you last all night
[tutorial] Stamina - Desensitising techniques pros/cons
Click to collapse
This makes them stand out and easier to search for.
However, a longer term solution is to have a dedicated Tutorial forum etc.
But again, we have the wiki, and that's a better place for that kind of stuff. The onus is on the original poster to realise his post is useful and put it on the wiki - but anyone can edit the wiki, so everyone should

i posted 3 times on this forum noone ever answered - even though i know that these topics were discussed. Of course everyone here YELLS - YOU ARE A NEWBIE go search the forum - the search brings up 1000s of post that would take 10 days to read and find what anyone needs....
This forum will be much better with stickies - way better.
For example right now i am sitting and trying to find a way to install properly Windows Lite on my phone and i know that posting for help will be useless.... so i emailed directly to the creator of those skins.
But if there was a sticky - that would help a lot....
Just my 2 cents

I am a newbie here, I appreciate the work everyone has done here too. I am also a bit knowlegeble on other stuffs and i am also a memebr of other forums. from experience. it would help alot if there is a tutorial section. example, xbox-scene.com there is a dedicated place for tutorials and they really broke all aspects of everything that has to be with the xbox. Please can the moderators and human gods that make this site tick please have mercy on us. Im sure that there are also alot of people here, that will help to get this thing done in no time.
Thanks again for every thing.

Like Vijay said, instead of stickies we have the Wiki, thats much much better then a sticky will ever be.
p.s. I replied to one of your topics (ringtone help), the reason that you dont have reply's on your other topics is maybe because nobody knows the answer?
The WiKi pages are THE place for Tutorials.
And it saves us mods a lot of work (I have a life next to this too).

agree with it over all
but i have done searches and you get 20k worth or look at but usally half have nothing to do with what your looking for since someone puts off topic in a thread and you end up drilling down for nothing on a lot of it
and the wiki is there but not well maintained at the moment has some info but not a lot >>> but work in progress take time lord i know i work my reg job 16 + hrs a day
but a sugjestion of a more detailed thread break down
would be nice

New guys with a lot of questions.

Hello everyone. As you can probably tell I am new to this forum. I recently bought my first PPC (Tilt) and I am thoroughly happy with my device (thus far). Seeing how I am new to this genre of phones. I decided to surf the internet to see what kind of info was available for my new toy. To make a long story short, after I surfing the internet and visiting many different forums. I noticed the XDA or XDA developers being used frequently. So I decided to do a Google search which directed me here. I must admit I am thoroughly impressed by this forum (website) and plan to be a contributing member. I have learned so much about the capabilities of my phone. You guys are really amazing. Which leads me to my problem? I am having a difficult time understanding the verbiage being used to describe the various different upgrade features being discuss on this board. All That being said I have some question I would like to ask. But first I have decided to condense my questions on one thread as to make it easier for other interested parties as well as for me to find. However feel free to direct my question or to add a link that can answer my question at your convenience as I know many (if not all) these question have been answered in other threads (sorry remember I am unfamiliar with all these new words).
1)Is there some sort of getting started manual that I can used to better understand the various different words being used on this forum?
What does flash, cooking, roms, etc mean?
2) I would like to get rid of all the ATT stuff (for a lack of a better word) that on my phone and upload all the high speed HTC stuff.
I would like to do this in hopes of increasing performance as well as to have all the programs and features that where meant for the TYTN 2. If one could list the steps or refer me to the link that could do this it would be greatly appreciated.
3)How does a person find out about the various different applications or program that are available for my phone?
This would be of great interest to me. In particularly when it comes to music and radio stations. What is the best music/media player available? What is the best program to listen to various radio stations? And what site can I use to research this stuff?
4) Lastly I am really interested in all this voip stuff (Skyp, Google talk, etc). It would be pretty cool to use the internet to make phone calls instead of paying for daytime minutes. How would one go about doing this? Am I to understand that I can used my phone exactly the same way but through the internet?
I wanted to take the time to thank those who answered my question (and those that didn’t) as well as to developer of this board.
Thank you
Bulldog1
i think if you spend some time looking through these forums you'll be able to extrapolate many of these answers.
i'm not trying to be a jerk but your questions are kind of extensive and mostly answered with a bit of digging.
sorry.

No manual - you learn from osmosis.
I am pretty new around here as well... but a long time lurker...
So - to help as much as possible - here is a quick answer to your questions:
Flashing is when you overwrite / rewrite the firmware. It is the method used to put different ROMs on your device.
Cooking is where you create a custom ROM image - so it comes customized with whatever the chef puts on it.
ROM - think of it as an operating system image that is transfered from your computer to your device.

This site is chalk full of information about these kinds of things: Kaiser is pretty new - so hit one of the other forums under XDA. Software sitting on top of the OS should be pretty standard... ;-)

Kinda. But not as well. Data connections are more prone to dropping than voice calls.
It is cheaper to call internationally though... ;-)
So if you have a good connection and you aren't moving... it is a great alternative.

yeah, a glossary of terms would be great. as I read more it makes more sense and I find myself searching some of the terms online. be nice to have somewhere with meanings of WWE, SPL etc mean.
Welcome to the board. I would recomend reading all the wiki's that are stuck in each section and also the search button will bring many many threads on all the questions you have asked. Try this one to get you started. http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Kaiser Good luck

I'm in the same boat as you. I read through the posts here and found them really helpful, especially the stickied ones about flashing ROMs.
The best way to get rid of the AT&T stuff is to flash your ROM. Flashing your rom to the HTC-rom will wipe the AT&T bundled software and replace it with the set that comes with the TyTn II (although no TomTom).
I've been trying to find answers to some of your questions too (especially where to find good software and media players), so I'm looking forward to replies from the older members.

WWE: World Wide English
SPL: System Programming Language (my guess?)
Welcome to the forum, i am also new. As to your question of what is the best media player, it is TCMP, it plays almost everything (even .flv files!) but support has been discontinued because the ppl made it a commercial product...mind you very tech savy ppl are still continuing support for it and adding codecs and stuff.
to download it and some codects, go to this website:
http://www.4winmobile.com/forums/ht...cial-hybrid-media-player-all-codecs-here.html
Hope that helped
Thank you. I can understand that some question may too broad to answer in this thread. I understand that alot of my question are answered in other threads and for this I appologies.
The the reason I ask those question is becuase I do not understand the language being used. I have read (reread) the stinky under the kaiser upgrades tabs but still do not understand what exactly it is saying (or what it is supposed to do).
While I agree most of my other questions can be answered in other threads it would be of great help to me if someone could explain in greater detail to me my question number 2 which I have reprinted below.
I would like to get rid of all the ATT stuff (for a lack of a better word) that on my phone and upload all the high speed HTC stuff.

Step 1: Download and use kaiser-HardSPLv1.zip and follow directions found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1562805&postcount=1
Step 2: Download HTC rom from here:
http://rapidshare.com/files/5781641...dio_sign_22.45.88.07_1.27.12.11_Ship.rar.html
UnRar and run the executable.
Pat yourself on the back for getting me to type this out instead of reading the other forum yourself. ;-)
Oh - and if anything goes wrong... don't blame me.

You guys are great, I can see a sprite of sharing and helping in this forum. Again, you guys are the best, especially thanks to Daniel.
I bought a Chinese unlocked version Kaiser in Hong Kong, and I found out that it is not that convenience to me even though I can read Chinese. With Chinese Windows, it runs very slow. I decided to flash the ROM with HTC standard English ROM.
However, because of warranty issue, I need to backup the Chinese OS ROM, and restore it to its original setting if in case I have to take it back to HTC for repairing.
I am totally new to PPC or WM devices (I used to be a Palm lover), I wonder if anyone of you can tell me how to "Backup" and "Restore" the ROM. Detail instructions will be highly appreciated.
Sorry for my stupid questions, but I really don't know how. Whether I get the instructions or not, YOU GUYS ARE THE BEST!!!!!!!!!

please help new tilt user

hey just got a tilt. dont really know how to change everything yet. was wondering if anyone can get me started in changing the skin to that black one that shows weather n stuff. please help thanks!

ROM upg for tilt?

New to pocket pc's so sry for the n00be questions. Have ATT tilt through ATT with CPU Q 7201 & ROM ver: 1.62.502.0. First I am wondering how I can tell what version of win mobile I have? I want to upg to ver 6.1. I have Windows Mobile 6.1 For HTC Touch (U.S. Cellular) package ... would that work on my phone and with my carrier? Also wondering how I can save and restore current ROM version and where I can find good ROM packages (for my phone) for novices?
Thank you
Welcome,
Do a bit of research read stickys in ROM section, maybe even a bit of the wiki...
And never flash a\ROM meant for another device....
All info is here on XDA.
Peac3,
stylez.
There are volumes of information and most of it is confusing since this is my first experience with pocket PC's. I have done hours of research and cant get a strait answer. Thank god for forums. But thanks for at least answering one question. I thought for some reason that the HTC touch was for my device but I guess the touch is different than the tilt.
Another issue with the searches is that it comes up with nothing productive regarding my specific questions. Below are my search strings:
tilt rom upgrade "6.1" title only
tilt rom windows mobile "6.1" entire post
tilt rom "6.1" entire post
Sorry - no matches. Please try some different terms.
When I go to the ATT site they say that there is no 6.1 update available. Where can I get the update for my specific phone and carrier? Does the carrier even matter?
EDIT: Think I found the update at one of the logical places: HTC's site.
Hi,
Sorry for the bad reception. People around here seem to think their time is too valuable to help a newcomer. Bad comments invited, my skin is thick. They must have forgotten what it is like to be new. And I have found that the search function on this site is often less than helpful.
You can find your OS Version by going to Settings and clicking on Device Information. It should be on the first line.
It very much matters that you use the right ROM as the others won't work. OEM ROMS are picky about where they get installed.
You are on the right track at the HTC site. There used to be a link to it from ATT but I couldn't find it the other day.
Good luck.

Despite the chastising of senior members by our learned member with ten whole posts. What new members need to realize, is that this is a developers forum first and foremost. It is a library of knowledge accrued by the study of these phones and the hard work of it's members.
As I said, it is a library for all to access, not an HTC help line. As with all libraries, you do not walk up to the librarian and say " give me all you have on world history " the response you will get is, " go to the world history section and search it out yourself " Much like newer members here are told to go to the wiki.
When seniors suggest that you search, it is an attempt to train you to be productive , contributing members of the this community. If that's all you want is an HTC 24hr helpline, there are plenty of those other places online.
If you want access to the most knowledgeable people in the WinMo world , then do your homework, read the Wiki, do your searches, and then respectfully ask for help with concise well thought out questions, and you will find this one of the most friendly sharing sites on the net.
That being said, Welcome and here is the latest rom update for the Tilt
http://www.htc.com/us/supportdownloadlist.aspx?p_id=67&act=sd&cat=all
I agree with denco7. I researched for 3 days before I got the courage to try to unlock and flash my Tilt. Even then, it took me 5 hours. My MDA only took about 10 minutes. There is a reason for the wikis and stickies: they should be read first. If you don't find answers to your questions there or don't understand, ask for help and give a detailed description of what you have tried. Don't expect everything to just be handed to you.
i agree with what the senior members are saying...
also, i would like to add that the initial process (that can last for several DAYS) of doing the reading and searching to try to understand the basics of your device has been a thoroughly incredible learning experience. it will take time and some effort on your part but think of it as an investment...these devices may be simple to USE but CUSTOMIZATION steps like ROM upgrading deserve your full attention and understanding, particularly because of the likelihood of "bricking" your very expensive device.
at the very least, the wiki should be THE place to go to, to build your concepts, read about the various tips and tricks and customization possibilities and what not.
all the same, the builtin search does suck but nearly everybody recommends using google to perform your search...simply append "xda" in the keywords of your search and google will give you remarkably good results.

Just a side note.... There are 2 search buttons on the forums. One is for the Thread ( which it appears to be the one you were using ) and the other is a google forum search. The one on the very top of the screen is the one you want. Or do as everyone else has suggested and use google but add xda to the search string. I like how Denco put it........ this is a knowledgebase ( or a library if you will ). A librarian can help point you in the right direction or even teach you the dewey decimal system, but they will never hand pick all of the relative books for you. Learn the system and you will love it here. Goodluck!!!!
Now you've gone and hurt my feelings. I may not post again for another year. Oh well. Honestly, I support the need for folks to search, but I think you guys are a little extreme. It is my thought that forums like this are places where people go to get help, some need more than others. You are welcome to not respond or to respond helpfully, however, what value is a negative post but to raise people's hackles. Fortunately for you poor spirited folks, I have decided to ignore your rudeness and continue to lurk looking for tidibits of fun info.
As far as being a senior member goes, so? I have been lurking on forums since back in the 300 baud modem and bulletin board days. I just might be senior enough for my purposes. I help when I can and try to enjoy the commentary. I just don't like to see such rudeness as I often see here. Perhaps some "seniors" need to grow up a little and not take this stuff so seriously.
well........if you're senior enough, then you should know better than to start a thread asking a question that is answered countless times, which is an extreme no-no here. because of that we will now have to display extreme hatred towards you......its in the rules somewhere.

lol, infact your response was the only rude one, stating about senior members and there attitude towards noobs after my first post to which was giving direction and spoken very softly without a "go search" etc, infact i even welcomed him\her to the forum & directed towards the most relevant threads including saying not to brick there device.

In response to how many years online i imagine we all been about for along time online but not to say "we" know it all about the subject matter in hand.

This poor kid is going to get flammed for asking a question that has been asked in about 300 different posts.
Obviously he didn't use the search function and didn't follow the forum rules before posting.
Unfortunately, I can't close or delete this so I'll report it and we'll just have to wait for another moderator to do it.
These posts are annoying though.
To OP,
To date you cannot run flash on your G1. The best way to watch Flash videos is with an app called Skyfire. Look for it on Market. Or you can try flashing a SenseUI rom. No one is trying to get it to work in non-SenseUI roms because it can't be done at this time.
Also be aware that if you post without searching you are breaking forums rules and I don't think that I need to tell you what can happen should you continue to do so. So make sure you always search before you post. Besides, it'll keep the bashing and flaming down.
To everyone else... remember that if you don't have anything nice or constructive to say... don't say anything.
On searching for answers.
I've been searching for an answer to this question for three days and the only relevant post I've found is this one.
So thanks guys for flaming the OP without even bothering to direct him (or anyone else) to a useful post - the finding of which, seems to be easy for you.
Anyone who's spent any time on here knows that the information you're searching for is usually spread across a number of different threads in a number of different sub-forums. So if you know where that info is, a link would have been nice.
The answer is NO, but more importantly.... WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO???!?!?!!
Adobe must die!
Flash offers nothing and causes the suffering of millions.
