Hi, I tried TomTom today and my GPS connection kept dropping every 5-10 seconds....I'm using the original radio ROM that came with Orange, do you think upgrading it will help?
Thanks
agps
I had the same problem and solved it by disabling assisted GPS using Schaps Advanced Configuration Tool (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=418151)

radio updates
I have updated my radio to 1.00.25.05 and 1.00.25.07 and my orange diamond kept dropping GSP ever 30 seconds or so I have now gone back to the original radio 1.00.25.03 and worked without any problems today

Hmmm good point, I will try that thanks.
Had similar on sunday drove over 150 miles and it was perfect in garmin xt first time i had used it on my diamiond, return journey had the dropped signal problem only sorted after selecting different driver in garmin - strange stuff! never had this type of problem on any of my wm devices.
:O
The same happend to me also... My stock phone was shipped with the .05 radio I updated the radio to .07 and the GPS kept disconnectiong. I flashed back my .05 and will try it now.
I had this problem, untick receive all incoming beam and that fixed it for me

now that would be a new dilemma: how exactly is the GPS receiver and transmision affected by a beam ?
I'm walking allot, so I don't need to have my Diamond turned on the hole time (mostly in my pocket).
but when I turn it off an then on again, It takes a real time to research the GPS satellites, it works but a waste of battery or wait time.
My question is, is there a tweak that the GPS is not turned of when the screen is blanked.
like the GPRS; I still receive emails when the screen is off (blank)

Hi,
After many days of trying to get TT7 working, and finally succeeding... with some help from a particular person in this here forum (you know who you are!) I can't seem to get a GPS lock.
I've downloaded the latest Quick GPS and it can find me (and yes, I'm outside, not inside!)
Is there anything I should be doing? I tried it with A-GPS on and off. Currently its on, but still not locking. It will get a signal for a few seconds, then it loses it!
Does updaing the Radio have any affect on it? I'm running SwiftBL 5.5 ROM.
Thanks,
DG.
Hi DanGlee
What is your current Radio version. AFAIK 1.00.25.05 is the better radio for GPS (at present)
AFAIK having the a-gps on causes issues like turning the signal off every few seconds. So this should defo be off.
TT preferences should be set to internal GPS (is by default)
On the device there is external GPS settings (as the device has internal GPS - this setting need not to be messed with)
You should not need to change any of the default settings at all.
I have the same ROM as you so will test the GPS later and report back - though I don't think the ROM will be the issue.
Just got a fix on the satellites and the signal did not deteriorate on my SwiftBL ROM - is A-GPS still turned off ? get schaps advconfig from my sig -if not got already, and check the settings there. Thats all I can suggest for now.
Thanks man!
I have standard Radio, not touched that at all since got it, only ROM update. With the ROM the dev suggested a radio. I check that out later.
Don't have the schaps either. I try that too later.
I not really messed with any other GPS settings other than trying A-GPS on/off. Only managed to get it working late last night, then off to bed!
I try the other stuff you suggested later and see how that works out!
Thanks again.

Same problem I think with solution
Grtzzz
Recently I updated to the SwiftBL 7.0 Full 16PP. As I start TomTom 7.450 I says it has a gps device and then it says it has lost is gps signal.
After 15 seconds it updates it's gps location and tells me again it has lost it's gps location.
Then I close TomTom and start QuickGPS and update it (it is still valid for 6 days and more). After this update there is no problem with Tomtom anymore.
This updating I have to do every time I want to use Tomtom.
I'm just sitting in the car and not in the bathroom, so the gps is not the problem. I'm having this problem for a week now.
Does somebody else have this problem too? Is there a solution?

Try holding it up next to the window or use an in-car cradle. This has happened to me when I hold it next to my lap in the car I cant even get a fix. When I hold it next to the window I get a highly accurate fix.
I have a cradle stuck on the window. Before (for 3 months) I did not have a problem.
Or my hardware is braking down or there might be a issue with the ROM. Also f*ckup on my part is possible ofcourse.
But I wanted to know if I was the only one that had this problem. Until now I think I am.
i have gps problem too but i think using htc tools solve it for me so far...use the clear memory option together with nav init and wait for mode 2d fix.Try tis to see if its work?
Please mention which radio version your are using. Please update your radio to Radio v1.00.25.07. This is the best version for the GPS

I have the same problem.
My solution : soft-reset my device.
I'll try another solution : disable the A-GPS.
If anybody has another solution...
(I don't want to change my radio because of the warranty)
A-GPS
I had that same problem with iGO. Disabling A-GPS did the trick.
Likewise with Tomtom. A-GPS is the guilty party.
Having the same problem in Igo 8. The problem is that the program looses the GPS in 5-15 seconds all the time. Igo sais that it is loosing not the signal but it losses the GPS module. The only cure i found is a hard reset or going into flight mode. In flight mode the GPS works perfectly. Tested on 2 Diamonds. Any suggestions except flashing the radio??

100% A-GPS thing
Disable it whit Advance Config
Thats weird I got my XDA Ignito yesterday, put tomtom 7.450, in advance config it had a-gps disabled, but TomTom would not pick up anything.
I thought I try to enable it and it suddenly started working and it was working indoors too.
Thanks for all the info.

Yes that did the trick. I did put an other ROM on my Diamond so I fixed it by accident but now I know the reason. Thanks.
i cant get a fix on .08, reverting back to .05 or i will try .07

Yes! Exactly! I have seen same problem as topic starter. Also If I check "GPS status" by TomTom menu, it always lost and found GPS device every 5-10 sec. Only one think helps - start Google maps app, enable GPS, then Google map quickly found satellite I start TomTom and TomTom work fine till closing.
After disabling A-Gps, now TomTom work perfectly.
Hey guys,
I have an issue with my Diamond, i don't know why but when i use the GPS function on my phone, with IGO8, it looses connection with the satelites. 2-3 seconds on,.. than,... 4... 90 seconds off.
I really dont' know what's going on.
Can you assist me please?
ROM: Duttys V2.6 Rc1 WWE
Radio: 1.00.25.07
Protocol: 52.29.25.12h
Sounds like you have switched on assisted GPS (AGPS). You need to turn it off then all should work.
I have almost the same issue with destinator. It finds 4-6 satellites but it drops down to 2 satellites after some seconds - sometimes minutes.
I am talking on open-air environment (aka. national road) not in the city where buildings can be the reason.
Is there any patch (like GPSFix) ? I had HTC 3300 and worked like a beauty, I am getting really dissapointed with this.
And where is that AGPS function?
If you don't have an aGPS-setting in well.. settings, you can use schaps advanced config to disable it.
I had the exact same problem and it was solved by switching off AGPS.
increase baud rate IN Igo8 to 38400 (don't autodetect)
check navifriends.de forum for MN7 Diamond bugs. Reg key change necessary. Prob is solved there.

I had the same problem. Try to change rom and radio and try different combinations. Now, I haven`t any problems. Everything works perfectly! Btw. I have last Swift`s ROM and RADIO *.08.
Best Regards!

This is the solution....you have inadvertantly turned on A-GPS......turn it off, soft reset, clear data acquired for GPS then do cold start using HTC GPS Tool.......
I'm sure this will work
I have been using TomTom7 on my diamond for almost a year. First several months it was working fine, just some lags or freezes on roundabouts, which was not a big issue.
Then it started doing this strange behaviour at some occasions: I start TomTom, it finds satellites fairly quickly, I start driving, all fine. Then after some distance it loses coordinates (you can see the blue arrow, but everything behind it is grey and it is not following the route). Sometimes it fixes itself for a short time, then does it again. Sometimes this is all, whatever you do (reroute, restart tomtom, restart phone) it won't come back. Some days none of this happens.
Nothing in configuration had changed, I've been using the same radio and rom for almost a year.
I was really annoyed by this, could not simply rely on tomtom. Now I updated the ROM, and yesterday this happened again
If this was discussed before, please point me in the right direction, most of the threads I found by search were about lags or configuration.
It might be the Quick GPS Programs, I recall having a simular problem where the GPS would work for about 5 minutes then turn off, only turning the phone off then on then running up tomtom again would get another fix, only for it to run for a further 5 mins or so.
I think I disabled the quick GPS in the registry using PHM registry editor or something simular.
It might be worth considering updating the ROM. I'm running BsB's which seems much better than the stock offerings.
I've also had this problem with the latest rom from HTC (regular rom) with the radio 1.09.XX
I've updated to radio 1.15 and the problem is gone.
Thanks for you replies.
I've now updated the radio to one of the latest (1.09.25.23), the ROM was already recent (2.07 Gen.Y). Will test it during the week.
The solution based around disabling of Quick GPS - wouldn' it make the start up time longer ?

Could be error in timezone
Hi all,
I had a similar problem and it appears to be the timezone, by reasons unknown my Diamond was set to a timezone of Stockholm, now that looks ok, but it is not a normal timezone.
I changed it to Stockholm, Berlin, ... the standard timezone and once again I got a fix fast and easy.
The thing that you get a gray screen is that you our somewere in the middle of the earth according to the GPS, you notice this if you could see the coordinates and altitude.
I have iGo in my Diamond, but the problem was the same when using Google maps so it wasn't a problem with the program.
I have also changed my iGo to have a manually selected time zone, because I'm not sure if it might be iGo that made the change for me.
But now all my GPS works splendid, and I have a fix within 15 seconds.
i do have similar problems.. but it only happens when i'm in the dense core of downtown toronto where all the tall buildings are..
I think it's because the tall buildings are blocking the signal somewhat that is why your GPS kept on running out or coordinates and relocating itself again

I am in rural Scotland actually, the only high buildings here are castles which are miles away .. so this must be something different.
Neither it seems to be dependent on the sky nor battery level ...
p.s. testing new radio, so far so good ..
Just some feedback from testing: the original problem seems to be solved, but now I've got something much worse - sometimes TomTom freezes several second after the launch, and nothing can be done apart from restarting to bring it back. Don't know if this is a radio's or ROM's issue as I have changed both. Reinstalling TomTom from .cab did not help.
Anyone had similar experience ?

Hard reset maybe will help
Yes it may, but 3 days before holiday I do not want to be installing everything from scratch. I could try another ROM too if not this.
Tried - atifix, starting with bluetootsh on, wanted to reconfigure GPS setting in TomTom, but can't get there yet ... must be either BT or GPS connectivity

Updated radio to the latest 1.15.25.14 with 1.15.25.35 rilphone, made no difference at all ..
I think I found it - G-Profile service was the cause of the problem. Once I stopped it, TomTom has got 100% starting rate. It's a pity, was a nice small app to have.
I searched a found several posts that say that using GPS Gate will fix problems with signal loss on the GPS. My GPS worked perfectly under factor 6.0, started failing using 6.1. Does anyone have a real explanation for what is going on, and if there is a cooked 6.1 or 6.5 that fixes the issue without relying on running some other "fixer" program first?
From my investigation, it appears that the GPS just stops sending for long periods (often 30 - 45 seconds) and then sends a burts of several messages, and then goes silent again. Repeat and rinse. This obviously drives Destinator 6 MAD (although "visualgpsce" seems to get updates every few seconds. Don't know why unless that program is polling for GPS data instead of waiting for it to be sent).

Anybody notice whacky GPS performance late last week?
Me and a friend had the GPS totally fail Friday and Saturday (it said we were 100's of miles from where we actually were).
Now it's back to normal.
Satellite glitch?
bteljuice, joshkoss,
Thanks for the info. Unfortunately, updating factory 6.1 with the 1.70.19.09 radio didn't help. I'm not sure it's the radio - some programs work and others do not, while all worked fine under WM6.0. I am running Destinator 6, which loses the signal every 3 or 4 seconds for up to several minutes, and also VisualGPSCe, which works perfectly... - what software are you folks running?

Abt ur GPS woes: not sure if it true
Google this "GPS System May Soon Begin Deteriorating"
There is alot of thread on this but cant seems to locate the offical source.
This might be 1 of the possible reason to explain how our GPS goes whaco at times.
