hmm... my gf's 1 week old TD has started to 'self-eject' the stylus automatically... doesn't get 'sucked' in anymore, the magnet is still working when i place the stylus on the batt cover but inserting it back into the slot face the same issue... the stylus is tilted at another angle instead
should pay HTC care a visit?
she's really pissed to get something 'high-tech' for once plus i was the one to 'psycho' her into trying ppc
anyone else face this at all?
No problems here with the stylus, so I guess it's best to give HTC a call and let them fix it.
And oh well, if it makes your gf feel any better: A magnet is hardly hightech, especially considering it's probably just glue'ed in there. So it's the 'lowtech' thingy that's broken, not the hightech
yeh, i probably should...
this phone's given me some fun exploring a new model(i'm using trinity btw) but also given me more problems....
should stop inducting ppl around me into the dark ppc world... crossing over to the dark side just creates more lights to be put up(by me btw)...

lol! friendly advice ! danger! "pissed girl friend" means trouble even if it's because the pen is not "sucked in". lol!
on a serious note i tried to magnetize the pen (i wasn't satisfied with the way it was sucked in ) with the magnet from my htc athena only to get the opposite effect. don't know what made me think that the pen is the magnet and not the diamond. well, experimenting...experimenting
maybe you or your girl friend have the pen near a magnet? a not too plausible scenario ...
i thought so too bout the magnet, i actually chided her for putting/leaving her phone somewhere that has a strong magnetic field...
she adamantly insisted "NO!"... ok, time to zip.
shall pay a visit to the local HTC care centre...
That has something to do with the orientiation of the magnetic field. If you place two magnets together facing with the north and south pole together they will attract each other and with north facing north.....ok I think you got the magnetic basics.
This could only have two reasons, your pen got magnetized and now he is pushed away by the magnet inside the diamond. Or the magnet inside the diamond got misplaced and he is now facing with the wrong side towards the pen.
Try if your pen is magnetized maybe with a paper-clip. If so try to change his magnetic orientation with another magnet by moving it over the pen in different ways as you were sharpening a knife.
hmm.... should give that a try... thanks for the suggestion
was pretty bout the magnet used when reading bout this new model, thought that might cause some problems(yes, it had to be me unfortunately)
pen is the magnet, so magnetise it.
just done to mine, it now flys in
I experienced the same problem today... but I don't know how it happened. I think the pen now has the wrong magnetic polarity. The magnet inside the cover doesn't like my pen anymore
So I will try repolarise the pen with a magnet.
The magnet is inside the Diamond next to the Battery in the Area where the Stylus slides in.
There is a little Magnet in the Stylus as well.
If the Stylus does not get sucked in, the Magnet inside the Diamond, next to the battery, is probably misplaced. This happens if you put the stylus on the right hand side of the Diamond, just about the middle. The magnet gets pulled out of its place and the trouble starts.
dont you have another Stylus? there were 2 with my diamond...

Yes, that's exactly what happened with my diamond!
For everybody who is experiencing the same problem, see following post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=2390056#post2390056
There you have instructions how to refix the magnet to the right place.
Hi all,
Not quite sure how to explain this. When the Diamond was new the styles 'sprung' back into place with its magnet. Now, I have to push it in - it defaintely has some resistance. I've taken the back off and cleaned it but no change.
Anyone else got/had this?
Rich
the magnet beside the battery has probably gotten unstuck.
several ppl have had this same prob; I was the first, I believe.
just need to get a tweazer and some glue to hold the magnet in place.
i thought it is the stylus that is magnetic not the pda itself?
Hi,
Thanks for that - I can see a magnet on the side of the batt (cirlced in the pic below) but it *appears* to be ok. Does it look fine - or has it moved - or has something dropped off???
Rich
ok ok - fixed it. The magnet had come out of its whole and stuck to the side of the battery. By replacing it all is ok now. Thankfully I did not lose the magnet!!!

Well done...
Might have something to add here

Excelent spot mine was in the exact same spot, Thanks for sharing
The stylus is the magnet not the pin inside die Diamond!!!
Try to hold your stylus against some metal...
horstborsch is right. the stylus is the magnet.
the stylus attracts other metallic objects, not the phone.
what we see in the image probably is the switch that detects the magnet
I have tried to fiddle around with the stylus and the phone, in order to solve this little "mystery" and I think that they are magnets both in the phone and the stylus.
This will make the stylus lock in place. The phone has a magnet where the north is up, then the stylus will have a magnet where south is up (magnets are in opposite directions). Therefore it will lock inside the phone, as the south pole of the phone's magnet will attract the north pole of the stylus, and the opposite for the other poles.
If the stylus won't lock properly in place, one reason could be that the magnic field of the stylus has been disturbed or changed.
Fx when you place the stylus on top of a speaker or any electrical component having a magnetic field.
However if it is a good magnet this shouldn't affect it, but you never know..
The stylus can be completly demagnetised if you pass it through a solenoid, but I don't think anyone tried that yet with the stylus
I'm not saying that I'm right, but at least it could be one solution
Cheers!
Hey guys, I have also just found a little magnet. But I have the MDA Compact 4. Could anyone point out where I need to put this magnet back?
I have tried putting it in various places but it does not work.
Thanks guys.

didnt you learn at school that two magnets attract each other.
anyway i had the same problem and found the small magnet on my battery.
...it has the size of 2mm x 12mm so you can easily find the empty place where to put it..
I just realized how difficult it is to open the battery cover after you've inserted the battery. Anyone having trouble with it or am I just a huge failure? I don't want to push and wrench away at it in fear of breaking the thing, what with it being plastic.

Try applying pressure nearer to the bottom of the phone and push away from you. You scaredy cat
Yeah, you have to apply pressure at the right place (at the center near the bottom) but it can be really difficult to open sometimes. At first I thought I'd get a spare battery to be able to switch when one is empty, but I can't see myself opening the phone every other day, I'm pretty sure I would break it eventually...

Every time I apply pressure it makes this sound like it's about to break. D: And I keep getting the feeling I'm going to crack the screen. I'll flash damn near anything all day long, but breaking the thing physically scares the daylight out of me.
No success, btw. Either I'm not pressing in the right place or not pressing hard enough. Swear to god I opened the thing multiple times the first day I got it (after the battery was in, no less) since I got the SIM card in the wrong way. Now it's tight as... well, very tight. Plastic isn't supposed to expand, damn it.

the trick is to handle the phone at its sides, that way you wont risk breaking your screen. So apply preesure at the sides of the battery door and push with both thumbs.
Here's how to do it properly.
Hold the phone, using both hands, between index fingers and thumbs, so that the thumbs are just above the silver (engraveable) strip in the back. Bring the thumbs in toward the center line of the phone.
Angle your index fingers a bit, so that the pressure is applied not at the screen but the edges of the device. Curl the index fingers so that the upper half of the fingers are pointing toward your body and are positioned alongside the edges of the device.
Now, with your thumbs, push in and up. It helps if fingertips are nice and dry
I get the very same feeling of just how fragile it seems to be when trying to pop the cover off
This is not a problem I've ever had. It just slides off; what the heck are you people trying to do to your poor battery covers? ^_^

Harry, it's only a problem for the original poster
Guess I'm just a clumsy ****. It kind of moved a little bit when I tried what you guys said, but otherwise unless I'm willing to go at it with my nails, I should probably ask someone else to do it.
On the other hand, no dust under my screen! The tightness of the battery cover might as well be why.
I find sticking your fingernail in the little slot where the speaker is and dragging back from there helps. I also get the feeling im going to crack the screen when im pressing hard on the phone, its scary stuff!
Try this, hold your phone in your left hand facing down with your index finger and thumb just on the sides of the phone just above the capacitive buttons. Then place the ball of your right palm on the back of the cover and push up while applying a little force, it should open pretty easily.

I rarely, if ever, read manuals. But it's not as if I had trouble removing the battery cover the first day (especially since I had to do it several times as my SIM card was inserted the wrong way in).
I noticed that when I pressed on it slighty there was a slight squeak noise that came from the casing. I had recently bought a replacement cover and it was fine and than it did the same thing. What is this? Is it normal for most incredible s devices because I have heard other ppl had the same problem. I dont care as much because I have a case for mine but what about you guys??? Any squeaking issues??? LOL

Yes, same here, mines pretty bad actually!
I've got a case on top and its a tight fit, so it doesn't squeak.
Bad design flaw IMO.

Arrgh, it brings out the OCD in me LOL. But I have a case so it isnt bad, and its only in one little corner and I have to press on it so I geuss its not that bad. Its really a shame because I love this phone and thats its only flaw.
The same case here too.
For me its at the corner. I guess its due to the pressure while we want to unlock the phone, we tend to press the back cover first before hittin the power button.
Ive got a red IS, dunno if i can get another replacable one or not...
P.S I aint using any case or anything, its as fresh as outta the box XD
I believe the squeak is caused by some empty space existing between the phone and the back cover. Stick a strip of duct tape on the inside part of the back cover where it squeaks. It should solve the squeaking problem.
Mine squeaks really badly around the volume buttons. putting a case on fixes it though.

Yep mine squeaks too, the corner near the camera.
Squeaky
No, mine has not had any squeaks. The USB port does rattle a bit. But not enough to get up in arms about. I find the fit and finish surprisingly good considering the chassis seems to be all plastic.

Isnt that not going to be good for the battery? Overheating it or something? I am kind of weary about putting things inside the phone
yeah it has been discussed tht the cover does squeek, either you have a case that is able to press on the phone good enough to prevent it from squeeking or you put fillers inside the phone to stop the squeeking

How do you think that would overheat the phone, exactly? It's not like phones have vents or fans that could be blocked by the tape.

Of the ones that squeak (including mine), how many people have removed the back cover? Mine didn't start to squeak until the third time in pulled the battery cover off. I have noticed that on one side there is a small gap along one side more so than the other.
Mine definitely squeaked as if the cover was loose. It's not much of an issue with a case though.
Yep. Mine squeaks.
Top right (Near the camera & power button) and bottom left (near the home button). Intrigues me that it's like a diagonal thing. oh well.
I lold.
Don't really care though. xD
Just send them an email with some proof, some pictures and maybe a short video which you can clearly hear the sqeezing.
I did that and they send me a new cover
Sent from my HTC Incredible S using Tapatalk
I was able to fix this once by somehow properly placing the back cover back on but when the next time I removed it and placed it back, I again started to have the squeak so I used some plastic tape, placed it on the side of the back as well as the top, placed the back cover back and no more squeaking
I had squeaking on the right top and side.

Same here. Mine started squeaking after I removed the back cover for the third time as well. For me it's on the right side, smack in the middle of the device (where my middle finger rests when I hold it in my left hand )

FML!!!!! Arrgh now I have to buy a display replacement and open up my phone to replace it...because it bugs me. I dont want to go through warranty, I will have to unroot my phone and S-on. Arrgh
Anyone else with this?
I have a Brand New phone where the SIM flap does NOT sit flush with the body of the phone.
The MicroUSB flap if fine and when viewing the screen cannot be seen. However, the SIM flap can be seen raised. If I push it back in it is flush for around 2-3 seconds and then it starts to protrude again!
Surely this will compromise the waterproofing???
I see other people are having problems but most of them where after 2-3 weeks. Mine is like this OUT OF THE BOX!!!
Your experiences?
Bump!
Me too.
Now I'm using the ultraslim cover from Puro and I think this helped reducing that.
Anyway you can try changing the flap, it's cheap and I saw that lot of people with this problem managed to solve in that way.

I have the same problem but on the upper one. Where do you buy flaps? Sony told me to send it under warranty but not having the phone 3 weeks just to change a rubber piece seems stupid.
If you have this problem exchange the phone for a new one immediately.. I had this and o2 said it was a recognised fault with some units

OK, Just a quick update. Last night, I pushed the SIM Cover right in and wrapped about 3 rubber bands (top, middle & bottom of the flap) over the face of the phone to ensure that the flap remained in place when I let go of it.
When I took the rubber bands off this morning its a lot better.
I don't know if its a long term solution, but the flap does not seem to be protruding as much.... In fact it looks almost flush. :good: for now!

Try the rubber band method... Push the bottom of the flap in and then place a rubber band on it and leave it overnight
For information I had the same issue when I received mine. I did not want to send it back and wait again for a new one so I used to push back the flap when I saw it open. Now, the flap remains closed and doesn't open anymore! I think it just need some time to fit correctly.
I have tried the waterproof test and everything was OK

I'm too chicken to attempt the waterproof test!
You can test waterproofing without water:
1) close the flaps
2) dial *#*#7378423#*#* (7378423 = SERVICE)
3) service tests/pressure sensor
4) press on the screen with your finger, pressure will rise
5) open a flap, press, pressure does not rise
