I want to flash my MDA Compact IV with the latest HTC Touch Diamond ROM (1.93)
I have the unsigned hard SPL installed, and have extracted the RUU file from the official HTC ROM updater but when I try and flash the phone reboots and I just get a black screen. The progress indicator on the PC stays at 0%.
Although I've flashed most of my phones it was always done by the excellent instructions and this a little different.
Thanks
Well I managed to get past that problem but now the flash gives an error message of 'Invalid Model ID'
Is it possible to get the HTC ROM onto the MDA Compact IV?
Thanks in advanced.
Always seemed to me that carrier-branded devices were just the original devices with some external changes (HTC Victor) and of course the theme on the ROM.
Have you tried flashing with one of the custom roms (which I can highly recommend, as it really speeds up the device)? Maybe the carrier only allows ROM updates by them.. so have you checked if T-Mobile provides any ROM updates?
I did mine no problem . flashed unsigned hard spl then swiftys ROM . absolutely no prblem . Even when things looked not right i,e restart phone active synv naffing off i left it and it took about 5 mins for the rom.
Well after trying two or three custom roms ive settled with the Elite v3.0. Its immensely fast and doesnt cone with any added stuff that i dont want or need.
Im now one happy diamond owner.
Now if only messenger was better on t-mobile web n walk.
Thanks guys
Hi
See you took the plunge and went for a custom rom instead of that dreaded t mob stock. Welcome to the new diamond experience

Hi everyone,
First and foremost, let me introduce myself, I am known as wizzkidd (a name that often is used against me at times like these). Aged 27 from London, UK. I'm a typical mod-freak, modding anything and everything possible from PSP's to Wii's to Cable TV etc etc.
Anyway, I've got a SPV M700 (aka HTC P3600) branded on Orange UK running Windows Mobile 5, and everthing works fine. I found this wonderful site when I was researching into the amazing additions and power of Windows Mobile 6.
To my amazement, I soon realised it would be possible to upgrade to WM6, so off I went reading through the forum....
To start with I realised I needed to perform a CID Unlock (and whilst at it, I done the SIM Unlock too) before I could proceed. I done this perfectly fine.
I then found the first ROM that looked impressive as it was based on WM6 and had a bundle of goodies baked within it. (im learning the terminology too, hehe), it was a PDAViet ROM (latest to date)... I followed the instructions and hey presto, my phone was a fancy WM6 version with loads of impressive goodies installed.
After search for more stuff here, I found loads of interesting stuff. But firstly I decided to install the Hard-SPL into my phone for my own protection when doing future ROM flashes.
What caught my eye was the Touch Flo stuff, so I wanted it. Searching through the threads and the progress in development, I soon found a Wizard ROM that includes Touch Flo, and based on user suggestions and feedback, I decided to go for NBD v7.4.
My problem:
- (currently running PDAViet ROM: 02.07.06.PV and have Hard-SPL integrated)
- I double click on the "ROMUpdateUtility_Wizard_NoID.exe"
- I tick the "I understand...." and the "I Completed the steps..." boxes
- (the USB cable is connected and ActiveSync 4.5 detects the connection fine)
"Verifying the information on your PDS Phone..." displays for about 4 seconds...
The RUU displays the current information about my phones image, and has a "Update" button to click to update the current ROM version, so I click it...
The RUU displays some verify checks such as
FROM
model ID: ""
image version: "02.07.06.PV"
Language: ""
TO
model ID: "Wizard"
Image Version: ""
Language: "WWE"
I click next twice... the phone boots into the Hard bootloader (SPL-1.20.Olipro) and the USB connection disconects and then reconnects at this point (i can tell this by the audio sounds), the RUU displays the progress bar at 0% and nothing happens, the screen on the M700 stays on the bootloader screen, and the RUU stays on 0% - this lasts for about 15 seconds, then the RUU says "ERROR [264]: CONNECTION, and gives me the option of clicking the "Recovery" button, doing so, and following the instructions, leads to a final message saying: "Error recovery has been successful and the update process is ready to resume. Exit recovery and run the RUU again."... I try running the RUU again, and im back to sqyare one again!
I've even tried using the Soft-SSL (by Des), but the progess bar stays at 0% and the bootloader stays on the screen.
What could be wrong?
PS Thanks for reading and thanks for your patience if you've got this far. lol
Don't flash a wizard rom onto a trinity rom. Only flash trinity roms. That's like trying to flash moto razr firmware on it. Not meant to insult, just telling. I hope your device isn't bricked.
what you're doing wrong is flashing a Wizard Rom on your phone. There's a reason that the forum is divided in to different sections for different phones.
Think of it this way.. would you put a Wii mod on your PSP? you're lucky that the RUU has saved you from carrying around an expensive brick.. read a little more.. flash a little less..
Ohh I see, I didnt realise 'Wizard' was a different model name, I assumed it was a Wizard in the sense of an 'Easy Install For All...' type ROM, (ie If you was to use a wizard when creating a chart in an excel spreadsheet, catch my drift).
My bad for mis inturpreting what a 'Wizard ROM' was. Ooops. Well, my device still operates pefectly fine anyway.
Do you know anywhere I can get a stable version of Touch Flo for my device? Preferably cooked in a ROM, because I used a alpha version of the Touch Flo .cab file, and I had nothing but problems.
Thanks
there are no trinity ROM's to my knowledge with touch flo built in... should be coming soon now that official Dopod WM6 ROM is out... keep an eye on the trinity mobile 6 forum (and not on the Wizard forum haha)
lol. OK.
I noticed you're using the same ROM as me at the moment. Have you tried installing the Touch Flo (Alpha) cab file and managed to get it working by anychance? (eg. No black screen)
didn't work for me. I couldn't really be bothered to mess with it too much as people have such varied results. Someone will cook it in to a ROM before long. Look out for mun's Indigo ROM.. he said he'd put it in.
Hi, I'm pretty new to this flashing business so go easy on me! I know there are a lot of roms out there but I'm finding it tricky to pick out some of the good ones. In the meantime I would just like to put the updated stock HTC rom on there as I've got the ghastly tmobile one on my MDA Compact IV.
Now, to my understanding I need hardspl for cooked roms, but for official roms i wont need. If this is the case, how is it done? Could anyone shed some light on this??
Thanks
You might still need an unsigned hardspl as the original HTC rom won't be for your region or operator.
Best thing is to try an flash a ROM to your phone. If you get an error message then you know you'll need to change your hardspl.
i tried the official htc rom without hardspl and it didnt work. Ive upgraded to signed hardspl now, do u think it should work?
I just flashed my Diamond with the: RUU_Diamond_HTC_NOR_2.03.409.1_Radio_Signed_Diamond_52.51.25.26_1.09.25.23_Ship.exe
I'm an norwegian that's in the US studying, so they only gave me the norwegian version. Anyways, everything worked fine until flash, but now my phone refuses to register on the network (AT&T)!
Took the sim-card back to the at&t nokia phone, worked the first time...
I really wants to use my Diamond instead of the crappy nokia, but it would be a shame to downgrade to 1.93 (which worked just fine...).
Someone, please have a solution for me?
simply install a new radio....try 1.00.25.07 that seems to be the only quadband radio..
(you have to flash an hspl before)
It's stuck on 0% and won't continue... Tried several roms :-/
no service?????
is there a soution to this no network problem
THERE IS A CROSS IN THE RECEPTION BAR AND WHEN YOU DIAL OUT IT SAYS "OPERATION FAILED"
any replies appreciated
Quite bad if the official RUU more or less bricks the device, at least turns into just a little computer
It screwed up my Diamond aswell The gprs is completely dead, been up all night trying to fix it, several hard resets etc, nothing helps... if it was a cooked rom I could tolerate it but official roms screwing up our phones this easily pisses me off.
Mine worked again, with the old 1.93 rom!!
What the hell did they do to 2.03? I suppose the radio rom is different at least... But I couldn't change to the old radio when I had 2.03, tried using the HardSpl...
Is it possible to flash _once_ with everything from 2.03, but the 1.00.25.05 radio (which is the one from 1.93)? Doing it sequentually doesn't work.
So what I did, as the final solution:
Flash with stock 2.03 rom
HardSPL
Flash with 1.05.25 radio
Works perfect!
Hmm i did the other way round with my o2 XDA Diamond (1.93 Stock)
1. Hard SPL
2. New Radio Rom (1.09.25.23)
3. 2.03 official Ger HTC Rom (without vendor lock)
works great as well
I've seen this issue a couple of times too. With 1.93 as well as with 2.03. Did not figure out what was the cause but never had a chance to bring the device back to life with some uninstallation or radio flash. I always went back to the SPB Backup from the night before it stopped working propperly.
Hi folks, I have just got a T-Mobile Compact iv after handling a few HTC Touch Diamonds through my company and loving it in comparison with my old Vario 2 (HTC TyTN 1)
As I am on Contract with T-Mobile I have gone for the Compact iv version as it was free to me however Once receiving it I noticed the rom including the TouchFlow is a really really old version compared to what's on the Touch Dimaonds.
I have spoken to T-Mobile and they told me they can't supply a newer version but they have given me full permission to use the one on the HTC Website for the Touch Dimaond and if anything was to go wrong they will still support me.
I have a serial from one of the Diamonds we have here in the company in order to download the rom for my compact but I thought I would check here first as HTC refuse to give me any information as its a T-Mobile branded phone that the rom for the Touch Dimaond is perfectly fine for the UK Compact iv?
Thanks in advance for any information.

Max

A Touch Diamond ROM will work fine on a Compact IV. It´s a T-Mobile branded HTC Touch Diamond with a different cover. Hardware specs are all the same. So there's no reason why it wouldn't work. Just know what you're doing when flashing it. It could go wrong.
Thanks for the reply. I have flashed a few phones including HTC's and Nokias so I am not worried about flashing it, its part of my job being in IT I just wanted to ensure that the rom would work correctly encase there were any slight differences in hardware but I have got an HTC Branded Serial code so I will go ahead and download the rom upgrade
Thanks,
Max

Rom's could be found here to. They are all orignal roms.
See I would do that but as T-Mobile would normally no longer support you if you change roms and they have told me they will but as long as its downloaded from the HTC website I think I am going to be safe this time.
I wouldn't mind trying the 6.5 roms I am very intrested but I think I will wait until I have a spare phone

HELP!! Won't run
:-( I tried to use the rom update but it says invalid Vendor ID then restarts my phone. It actually checking and finding I am running T-Mobile. Is there anyway around that?
Regards,
Max
Max, have a read of the wiki and you'll see there are a few things you need to do prior to flashing a new one. The most important one is installing HardSPL - this removes the invalid vendor id probs. Like I say, read the wiki and all will be clear.... if it isn't clear - don't risk it!

Follow this tutorial and it should work. You could take a look here to.
Hi, I had just read all the instructions downloaded and installed the HardSPL from the second link you provided and Installed the orginal version (not the latest on that link as its what it said to try first)
I flashed it ok came back on but the screen is jurky and very slow when it finally finished coming back on it went straight to the customization screen which is normal for a flash but took forever (alot longer than I have seen before) once complete I then re-connected it back up and went to run the HTC Rom upgrade and still says invalid Vendor ID.
Am I undesrtanding this wrong and I need to copy certain files out of the HTC Upgrade and use them along side the files I downloaded with the HardSPL and use a mixture of files to get it working.
Regards.

Did you successfuly flash the HardSPL into your device? You can check this by doing this:
To confirm is Hard-SPL is on your device, manually enter Bootloader by pressing the Volume Down and performing a soft reset at the same time. If successful you will see the tri-colour screen and the following will be displayed
Hard SPL 1.40.Olinex
DIAM100 MFG 64M
SPL-1.40.OliNex
I've checked what mine said, and this is what I've got back.
DIAM200 64M
SPL-1.93.OliNex
MicroP-Diam (LED) v11
So I guess you need a different HardSPL. Can someone confirm this for me? Checked my own MDA Compact IV map on my laptop and saw to files that I've used for flashing the HardSPL. Used Unsigned-Hard-SPL-Diamond-OliNex.zip and RUU_Signed_1_93OliNex_HSPL_UnsignedEdition.zip. Needed to overwrite RUU_Signed.nbh in the map for Unsigned-Hard-SPL-Diamond-OliNex with the one out of the map from RUU_Signed_1_93OliNex_HSPL_UnsignedEdition. This worked for me then. Added the files for you. So maybe this works for you.
I get:
DIAM200 64M
SPL-1.40.OliNex
MicroP-Diam (LED) v11
Have I done it with the wrong version now then?
I have tried using the files you have supplied and that worked as all the other flash things fail now so let me give it a go now that I have completed with your files.
Regards,
Max

I guess it had to work. Don't understand why it didn't. Because the HardSPL flash worked for you I don't understand why you stil had the invalid Vendor ID message. I hope my version will work for you.
Well after I did your flash and it finally came back on and finished the customization, the TouchFlo no longer appeared, just got a blank home screen and stayed like that. I have started the HTC Rom upgrade and it is actually flashing this time,
at 19% as I am writing this.
So I will post my results when it has finished.
Thanks,

URGENT! Rom Update Failed!
Hi I need some urgent help.
The HTC Rom Update was running through gets all the way to 100% on screen and on mobile and then the phone restarts and the software says 'Update Error'
the phone then restarts to Bootloader and says:
DIAM200 64M
SPL-1.93.Olinex V11
MicrP-Diam (LED) V11
PSOC-VICT STAGE_PVT v0x20
Upgrade ROM Code error
Please Try Again
I have tried using a completly different computer and run the upgraded rom flash again and again it runs all the way through then fails at 100% again.
HELP!!! What do I do,,, I have no phone now :-(
Ok I have managed to flash it back to the posted by Crazyrooster, in this thread and its working again now the T-mobile branding has now gone and in Device Info it says:
Rom: 2.03.405.2 WWE
Date: 12/19/08
Radio: 1.09.25.23
Which is the latest version right? So how come the HTC Rom update failed but flashing the one contained earlyier on in this thread suddenly works and reports the latest vesion?

I really don't have a clue. So the phone is working now with a original HTC Touch Diamond ROM? Very strange that it gave problems. When I flashed a phone (MDA Touch) for the first time it worked for me. When I flashed my MDA Compact IV I didn't have any problems.
Right,
I didn't use the HTC Rom as the last flash it was the one listed a few posts back and it reports:
Rom: 2.03.405.2 WWE
Radio: 1.09.25.23
However I have the following problems and I am not sure they are related:
1: Sometimes on call its crackling
2: Loud speaker is awful and very distorted
3: Internet not working on all programs (just phoned t-mobile and requested internet settings to be resent see if that works)
4: My hang up button doesn't seem to be working once the screen has gone off.
5: Signal seems to be very week.
Any ideas anyone?
Regards,
Max
Ok I have just spoken to T-mobile and they reckon if I phone HTC they will supply me back with the T-mobile Rom.
But until then as they are shut I might experiment with further flashes to see if I can get it working better because I do want the latest software runs so much smoother but the problems I am currently having I can't live with.
Max.
Ok, hmm I have in theory 'downgraded' the rom now on version
1.93.405.1 WWE downloaded directly from the HTC website radio version 1.00.25.05 and I still have the same problems:
crackling or fuzzing on calls,
the loudspeaker is a bit better quality but still a bit distorted (even at lowest volume)
internet works but for some reason, activesync wont work with our exchange server, msn mess doesnt work, you tube app.
still feels quite warm but thats prob all the flashing I am doing.
The latest HTC rom from their website still gets to 100% then fails and leaves no os on my phone just the bootloader.
One problem fixed the hang up key now works fine.
So I guess its just experimenting with the radio now and get a better signal.
hi all, i must say that i really tried to search the solution but all i got
were referring flashing for cooked rom or if i had cooked rom and want to go back to the original.
i had to hear your opinion
as bought my htc tytnII with wm6.0, i went to htc support site and upgraded to official 6.1 os
(HTC TyTN II - Windows Mobile® 6.1 Professional Upgrade)
and then i moved to serch heb support, and found installation that run threw the pc.
after the installation i weren't happy with the results, and i even have adv commercial on botscreen.
so i turn to the HR, i thought it will give me again.. fresh start.
but right when he started to configure the system and started restarting
the heb support and the adv was there!
i just want pure start, with no leeching installations that beyond my control.
so im asking if reinstalling the upgrade from the htc site will give me what i seek?
i had to ask, i herd the word brick and got afraid..
although in the downloading screen in htc site it said:
"If it is the same version and your device is operating normally, there is no need to reinstall the software."
thanks in advance,
yaniv
Moved as not ROM Development.
You can reinstall the software from the HTC with no worries. If the rom is not meant for your device, it will not install.
The only way to harm your phone , really , is if your phone is currently running a cooked rom, and you try to flash a rom for another model of phone.
You are going to have bootscreens on every rom, windows screens, HTC screens, carrier screen, they may seem like advertising to you, but they are just normal bootscreens. If you do not like them, there are several threads here on changing and installing custom bootscreens and splash screens.
straight out of the Kasier Wiki.
