i've been using SPB backup to restore PIM data only.. ( i like that it restores my photo contact favorites for TF3D). But i'm experiencing weird results.. sometimes i restore and sync with my computer no problem.. other times, i restore, and when i sync it says a change has been made requiring all items on device to be re-synchronized (replacing all items on device with whatever's on the computer)
..frustrating.. i can't figure out why sometimes it does and why it doesn't.. can anyone shed some light on this?
it's mostly because of the date. when u restore you restore with the date of yr last update. another reason might be that u restore and sync after some major changes on yr device (flash-new rom) and the sync center "thinks" is a completely new device and act accordingly. it doesn't happened when you back-up and restore in the same day (not sure about that).
it happened to me also...sometimes i even got double appointments so i have to use sktools to delete them and sync again. i don't think that's a major problem
hmm... yeah i'm still getting the error even when the backup is the same day... its strange. funny that it would replace everything because it's a new activesync partnership, so it should think its a whole new device..

ive searched and cant find the answer to my question. anyway how can i retrieve deleted contacts? for some reason my contacts were deleted so i tried to sync with outlook and copy contacts from outlook but now those are gone too. please tell me there is a way to retrieve them.
Did you do a backup recently? If you have a backup you'll be okay. If not, well maybe someone else can help ya.
As far as I know once they are gone there's no way to bring they back. Next time get PPCPimBackup. Keep it on your storage card in a folder marked backup. It backs up contacts, calendars, and other info onto your memory card. so if you lose everything you can restore it immediately.
Actually if he did a sprite back up with the contacts on his phone he'll be okay. Otherwise you can go into xp & do a system restore. You'll be okay. Just slow down & be patient. I'm sure you either have a ppc back up with the cotacts or XP system restore enabled, right?
i did not do a backup recently. i usually just sync with outlook to have another copy of my contacts. i can try to xp system restore. did not think of that. thanks.
No problem. Yeah, it's a pain & I had to sys restore from losing them a few yrs ago w/ Wireless Sync. Just make sure your device doesn't overide your desktop after you sys.m restore or you'll come full circle.

i did a system restore and my contacts do not come back.
check yr outlook's "deleted items", there could be a copy over there.
thanks everyone. i found a copy of the outlook archive on a flash drive i used to transfer info between work, school, and home. got most of my contacts back. now i guess my question is switch between phones for big parties to avoid losing or breaking my tilt so i copy my contacts to the sim. how do i get it to copy in the same format as in outlook? ex. in outlook the names are filed as first and last but when its copied to the sim its filed as last and first.
I usually find items deleted during synchronization in the Deleted Items folder.
Gosh! You've replied to a thread which has died seven years ago, dealing with active sync/outlook.
Wonder if the hint you've given will be any remedy here at all

Has anyone tried to restore from backup onto a Tilt that is using BB Connect?
When it restores the calendar files, it sends a notification to everyone in every meeting.
Very embarrassing when you start getting the "I thought we had this meeting 5 months ago" emails.
I have upgraded to the full version of Sprite but the tech support there didn't know of any way to adjust the auto backups to avoid the contacts and calendar files (which I pull from the BB server).
Any suggestions? Or, better, is there a better way of backing up my Tilt?
I used SPB backup... I never got any emails, so I'm assuming I was in the clear...
I had the same incident happen.
It appears to be related to how the BB Connect "service" determines if things are changed on the phone.
I restored from a backup & it sent out "delete" notices followed almost immediately by "update" notices for all my meetings.
The only thing I can think of as a "work around" to the issue is to ensure that the radio and BB service is off on the phone when doing the restore, then going in & clearing out any items that are pending in the outbox.
Actually, I found my own workaround.
It is only the calendar entries that blast (apparently, the phone sees restored calendar entries as "new" and so alerts the media).
So, before a backup, I just uncheck the calendar box in BB. Calendar entries only take a second to upload so it is no biggie to restore then from the BB server.... and the phone doesn't see them as new entries.
I backed up with sprite backup using the stock at&t rom, then flashed to l26s new rom and now sprite backup only reloads some of my settings and my damn contacts are gone. Is there a way to manually extract the contacts out of the sB backup file also why does activesync think that i dont have outlook installed The damn window is open right beside it and it still says install outlook any help would be appreciated thanks ahead of time
did you check out the MIGRATION settings in the backup menu under options? you can choose to migrate your settings to another device (it migrates call logs, contacts, calender, tasks and categories...better yet for contacts to never fail and to always be updated is to use an exchange server for your pocket outlook email (i use a free one called mail2web i dont know what id do without it, push email is far superb over pop3)
well that would have worked before i backed up but doesnt help much now. thank u . i dont use email on my phone i just lost a lot of phone numbers. I just need to find a way to get to the phone numbers again. syncing with outloo didnt work because it says outlook isnt installed
I purchased the full version of Sprite Backup (figured it'd be well worth it) so that I could backup my 6800 and transfer some of its data to my 6850. More specifically, I was hoping to pull the contacts, call history, and text messages over to the new phone.
The contacts came over with no fuss -- actually, they came over through ActiveSync, so there was no problem there at all. However, when I tried to restore PIM data using the 6800 backup, the phone tells me that "Sprite Backup Requires Authorization To Run". As you can imagine, this is a bit weird. I tried using "Personal Data Only" as well as "Merge Level 2" and came up with the same result both times.
I've only had the phone for about 6 hours and haven't started combing through the threads here to make necessary edits, so there's nothing I'd care about losing. How do I pull the text messages and call history from my old phone?
Thanks in advance for any and all help, and sorry if I posted this in the wrong section.
Edit: I'm using Version 6.5.2.102
Sqube,
Even Sprite shows it needs code but you can still use it as in evaluation period for 10 days, so you can go ahead with the software and restore the utility. But i suggest using PIM backup for contacts, task, and messages as that works better than Sprite backup.
Unfortunately, I can't. That's why I'm posting here. I've already purchased the software; it's just not letting me restore the information from my 6800 to my 6850.
If I had known that Sprite Backup was incapable of restoring that information across different phones, I never would have purchased it, especially since I was coming to an all new phone.
Thanks for the help anyway.
It should be capable of doing what your asking. Why haven't you contacted Sprite about this issue?
Quite frankly, I was hoping I could find an answer here because these forums are (a) better; (b) more populated; and (c) don't have random spam in every other thread.
hmmmm
i have had the same problem using sprite to restore from PC.
solved issue by re-installing sprite on PPC before executing the restore from the PC. hopefully this issue has already been solved for you.
cheers.
As far as I know, the problem is you are tryign to back up data from a HTC Mogul to a HTC Touch Pro.... It doesnt; work like that... Settings in diffrent versions of windows on diffrent devices just don't work.... But what SHOULD work for you is that new "Microsoft My Phone"... you can back up lost of those things you wanted up over that, and restore them on a diffrent phone.... Try that and let us know... then when it is setup how oyu want... THEN creatire you backup using sprite backup
thanks teej, i did manage to backup and restore my HD2 to and from the PC. had to tweak a couple of things though.
i did a full backup to PC (everything except storage card - contacts, emails, messages, all calendar data, system data and my documents).
i also did a PIM data backup (contacts, emails, messgages and all calendar data) to my devices storage card (luckily).
so i flashed to new ROM, hard reset a couple more times, then attempted a full restore from my PC. used sprites same device/new ROM restore setting (called 'merge mode 2' i think), and it restored everything except my personal data (so the full PC restore didnt restore contacts, emails, messgages and all calendar data). luckily i had the PIM data backup and was able to restore all PIM data from that.
so with the two backups combined... i had success.
although this wasnt as straight-forward as i feel backups and restores should be... it was MUCH better than the backups i had done with SPB (using SPB i have had corrupted backup files on multiple occasions - i definately recommend using Sprite Backup over SPB, and i havent tried Resco or Microsoft My Phone).
advice to anyone backing up.... create multiple backup files, so if one fails or is corrupted... there is a safety net.
cheers.
I've been using the AT&T Tilt (HTC 8925) for several years, and have just upgraded to the HTC Fuze. My problem is getting the data from the Tilt to the Fuze.
The main reason that I upgraded is that I couldn't sync the Tilt anymore. For whatever reason, I can charge the Tilt, even using the USB charger, but the computer doesn't "see" the Tilt to sync. I've tried it with multiple computers, and the AT&T people have tried it several times, but no luck. I've also never been able to get it to sync reliably by Bluetooth.
So, anyway, I don't have a current sync on my PC, and I can't make one. I'm trying to figure out a way to get the PIM data to the new device. Can anyone tell me where the file(s) are stored on the Tilt? I thought maybe I could beam or even email the correct data files from the Tilt. Or does anyone have any other ideas?
Thanks for the help.
.. Joann
you tried PIM backup??
The tilt should come with Sprite Backup which can backup contacts, files, etc. Try using that to transfer your files. If you don't have one, borrow a storage card from a friend.
When making the backup, don't back-up your registry, and only backup the files you need. Otherwise, it's probably best to leave everything checked.
Google Sync or MyPhone should work too.
Both would give you a backup of your contact and calendar data in case of disaster. MyPhone will backup your sms, music and photos from your phone too.
Thanks so much!
I decided to use MyPhone, and it worked great!
If you try to copy the PIM from one device/ROM to another (i.e. your Fuze) you'll crash the Fuze, as it seems that every PIM is related to an only device/ROM (I mean, you changing the ROM but not the device, your old PIM will make your device crash)
I think you can export your data using Sashimi, maybe. Maybe using PIMbackup if the data are not related to the device/ROM but I'm not sure. Maybe, exporting them via Bluetooth from the Tilt to the Fuze directly.
Other options, I can't imagine them by now, but i'm not an expert and today I'm tired (it's 22:17 in Catalonia now)
