a proper bluetooth dongle only cost a few bucks from eBay, why would you bother?
K

firstly to save the £7 it would cost to get it from the nearest computer shop, and secondly to save me waiting.

I'm also interested in this. I tend to forget my BT-dongle in my home PC...

This does deserve a little bump before leaving to the dead thread graveyard...

usefulness of the idea
i think this can be quite useful: i only want my computer to be able to connect via bluetooth, when my pda is cradled. (so, when i come close to my pc, i can both synchronize my pocket pc & my mobile phone automatically, via a simple script / app).

file sharing over wi fi

well i believe i have just ruined my usb cable wire
the mini end fell into my cereal bowl (with some milk left at bottom)and windows keeps popping up faulty device errors
is there anyway to send files to my device over wifi? like file sharing with other network devices?
i could do it over msn but thats annoying
I don't know about WiFi, but you definetly can achieve everything that you could with the USB cable, with Bluetooth (except for the speed).
Just tell ActiveSync to connect via Bluetooth (Menu > Connect via Bluetooth). You may need to pair the device with the PC first though.

I would also need a bluetooth device on my PC which i don't otherwise i would not have posted about WiFi file sharing
if you have it you should be able to do it by going into settings/connections/network plugins and map you pc drive to your phone, not sure on exactly how to set it up maybe theres something in the wiki?
You can find USB Bluetooth dongle's for like $10
bluetooth is to slow for normal filesharing...
have you tried the drive mapping option? dont know if its in the no thrills rom.

If you mean the USB cable is dead, it's a standard one you can find virtually anywhere. You most likely have one that came with another device, if not it will cost you a mere $2 to get one...
If you share a folder on the PC there are programs that allow you to map the share on the phone, but even then with WiFi the speed is pretty much as slow as with Bluetooth.
On the PC.. make you sure that:
1) You've something shared on your pc (in Computer resources should appear an hand under the drives, or in network resources you should see shared folders of your pc)
2) In TCP/IP settings of the connection to the AP/router, Netbios is ON
On the PPC
A)Make you sure your wifi connection is working well
B) Make you sure the network plugin is disabled
C) Use Resco Explorer, in the bottom right corner there is a button to map lan drives/shared folders, follow the instructions.
Elsewhere You can use the "network plugin, it allow you to share folders also with the pda... but i write/copy files always from pda, so i don't need of a shared folder on it (and relative service started).
Check out this post, there is a couple of tips and people you can ask for more help if needed.

Did anyone here tried this?

I found a external soundboard at this site I know it’s a USB connection but I believe it should be possible to make it connectable with miniUSB, if I connect such a player to my phone and the soundboard to my home theater am I then able to play the music directly from my phone to my home theater In my thoughts I would connect my phone through pocket control to my notebook and if possible my phone by wifi with my network. If this works I could make as soon as I arrive at home my entire music collection available through my phone just from my sofa. If anybody knows a reason why it can’t work please tell me. Regards Willem
probably wont work, as it will need drivers.
if u want to plug ur phone into the home theatre system, then use a micro-USB to Phono adaptor...

Ok but that’s as far the connection, can you tell me as well how to reach the files at my network, I mean I can reach my phone through my pc but reaching my files at my server even through ftp didn’t work until now, the control over my phone isn't a problem. By the way the external soundbox doesn't need any driver it’s supposed to be plug and pray.
Regards
Willem
It is for PC and not for Pocket PC or smartphone like USB connector should tell.
Diamonds or any other phones do not output power through miniusb to power devices. You have to go tablet pc or bigger devices if you want to plug USB things in it.
even if it is plug and play or not but it is not made for phones.

Usin your Diamond as a wireless adapter for your PC?

As the title reads...
Is it possible to cennect your Diamond to your PC via USB or BT, and then somehow bridge that connection so that your PC uses the phones Wi-Fi?
I'm kinda stuck, and need Internet for my PC, which doesn't have Wi-Fi, and my Hotel doesn't have a LAN jack in my room. Grrrrrr!!
Thanks in advance!

It is mentioned "Wifi to USB - basically the pda acts as a wireless network card for the PC", amongst many other things.
Cheers.

Access Internet on Kaiser via PC

Ok I have been trying to use my pc connection and access that connection through my bluetooth on my kaiser, most I can get is the other way around. Any suggestions
Not sure that Internet Connection sharing in WinMo supports that...just wondering, why the heck would you want to surf the web on a 2.8" screen when you have a full PC available to you?
You can use the remote desktop facility via wifi. But as previously posted... why?! Bluetooth doesn't support a high enough datarate for it to work properly.
Connection at my location is 3G at best so bluetooth is defininitaly fast enough to accomidate my needs just simple stuff.

The best way to get the connection on your kaiser throught the pc is when you connect it using the USB and being connected to the active sync on your pc besides there are no settings need to be made for using this way. I'm not sure if you can connect the kaiser to you active sync on the pc through the bluetooth.anyway let me try it and if anything pops up, i'll let you know
Nope, no additional software required. Just go into Start - Programs - Internet Sharing. Hit connect and connect up your USB cable and you're done.
_Wait for ActiveSync to connect and then exit the programme._________________
Max confusion
What a jumble this thread has become . The O/P wanted to access the internet that's already on his PC and channel that through his TyTN II - NOT the other way around. As already mentioned in one post, one way of getting this is via an Activesync (or WMDC if it's Vista or Win 7 on the PC) connection. For greatest speed this would be via the USB cable but it is possible to have an Activesync or WMDC connection via Bluetooth for greater mobility if there's a need to carry the phone up to 10 m from the bluetooth hub. The other (more straight forward) way to do this is just to connect the phone via WiFi directly to the landline/broadband router (assuming there is a WiFi capable router avail).
Internet connection sharing is only for when the phones internet connection eg GSM/3G or HSDPA is feed to a desktop PC (say if the landline/broadband connection is down). In the O/Ps second post, the reference to Bluetooth speeds made it look like this was what was being saught.
I have done all of these with my TyTN II and had things working well in each case.

Bluetooth

Hi,
I just bought a Bluetooth dongle for my PC. (Trust Ultra Small Bluetooth 2.1 Usb Adapter 25 M)
The main reasons for buying this was so I could sync without using one of my very spare USB ports.
Another big reason was that I really want to try SideShow.
So, I hooked the thing up, installed it. Works like a charm for most services (files etc). It just doesn't work for two things: ActiveSync (on the phone)/Windows Device Center (on my PC) and Windows SideShow. Yay.
Could you please help me out?
To summarize:
PC with Vista Home Premium,
Trust Ultra Small Bluetooth 2.1 Usb Adapter 25 M,
HTC S730.
Not working for ActiveSync nor SideShow.
x5x_tim
PS: I installed something called "X86-PC Drivers.cab" I found in some thread. That's supposed to be the drivers for the SideShow service on the PC. (I think I installed them, I did not get an error from Rundll32...)
EDIT: what might be of use: I can't get the devices to pair if I use the PC to initiate that. The PC does not find the phone untill I pair them using to phone to initiate.
I don't know about SideShow but I managed once to ActiveSync my Wings through Bluetooth. Just be sure to remove any security restricition on your Bluetooth settings on your device. Like Secure Connection etc... Also, setup a serial port when you connect with your PC and then, at PC ActiveSync settings, at connection settings -> Allow Connections To One Of The Following (Com 4 or whatever). And then, at ActiveSync on your mobile, connect through Bluetooth. Try it and come again if it doesn't work.
Yes! Thank you. It's syncing as I type. That COM4 did the trick!
In the same way, you can have Internet on your mobile through Bluetooth's activesync connection. It is helpful if you don't have wifi on your mobile.
