Internet Sharing/Tethering Cry for Help!
I used to be able to connect my laptop PC to the internet using the Internet Sharing application on my AT&T Tilt/HTC Kaiser using the Blackberry Connect wap internet connection. Recently however, I am unable to conenct to the internet on my laptop when using the BBC connection. Regardelss of the BBC version, the Internet Sharing app version, the radio or the rom version this issue persists.
So, my call for help is to ask if there's anybody here on XDA that has played around with ICS, or internet sharing, or BBC (maybe the creator of one of the ICS apps), that can help me figure this out? The last time I could get it to work was on an older Dutty 6.1 rom with the bbc 4.0.0.84 version.
I am willing to donate or whatever, but whatever is causing this issue is killing me b'c now I have to pay for BBC data & email service + Medinet.
Any help or ideas are greatly appreciated. I am not a novice when it comes to CE devices, but the RIL/IPN stuff unfortunately is NOT my cup of tea.
Thanks!

Hello all. I have successfully installed BB Connect 4.0.84 on my Kaiser and it is up and running...both my BES and BIS accounts. Fairly smooth.
Question - whenever I suff the Internet or update my RSS feeds with Insight, it kicks the BB Connect "off" (disconnects) and uses MediaNet. Then I have to go in and "force" BB Connect back on. A bit of a PITA. I have an unlimited BES plan from AT&T...do I need to set the Connection types to be something else now for these other programs that need to access the Internet?
Any help you could provide with you greatly appreciated.
Thanks!,
Adam
yes go into the connection settings. then go to advanced and select networks and set both to My Isp or which ever one your BES\BIS connects to.
There is a new one now (not just MediaNet) tha is called "My Blackberry" but when I select that one none of the other Apps connect to the internet. Once when I select MediaNet do they connect. They actualyl disconnect the BBerry, connect themselves, and then a bit later the BBerry appears to re-connect on its own....so this may work out to be ok.
Thanks - much appreciated.
welp sorry to say bud thats how that is going to work then... BES must use its own network settings and the MediaNet for internet uses another sorry your stuck unless entering in the settings for wap.cingular by hand and not using MediaNet work for BBC
I too have BB Connect installed on my Kaiser. I am able to get emails successfully over Blackberry and gmail. However, I cannot use Internet explorer over MediaNet. GoogleMaps, the weather plugin, QuickGPS, etc can all get the data they need when connected through MediaNET but IE will not load any webpages.
Any thoughts on how to fix this? There are no options to config connections within IE and the connection within settings seems to be correct (how else would the other applications be able to use MediaNET?).
Note:
I can launch BIS for internet explorer and use the Blackberry connection instead of MediaNET. Obviously though this is not optimal as BIS has lmited sites, low res pictures, etc.
This is not really in the right forum. THere are a couple of BBC threads in the other Kaiser forum that address your question directly. Go there and search for blackberry. You'll find them.
issue kaiser w/ bbconnect
Hello,
I have a kaiser and the bbconnect installed on it but when I want to activate it, all my today plugins disappear and I can't find them in the today setup anymore.
Does anyone have an idea?
I'm in France but I don't think the issue comes from that.
I need it for my job and at the moment i'm totally held so please help me if you can.
Thanks in advance
Hi I could connected to the internet with my 6.0, but after upgrading to 6.1 i cannot get an internet conncetion via usb (active sync).
how do you get that to work?
thanks
more info would be helpful.......for example, are you trying to share the phones internet with the pc, or the other way around. which rom are you using, and if you are using a cooked 6.1 rom, please post in that rom's thread, you are far more likely to get a helpful response that way
if you mean internet connection as, let your computer use your mobile as a modem.
Then you use the internet sharing program.
Activesync is disconnected and the sharing takes over.
Wireless activesync doesn't work either when using internet sharing.
Thought I read somewhere here recently that with 6.1 your provider can track and distinguish your data useage now while tethering..ie BILL YOU $$$ if you dont have a tethering plan
Hi -- I'm trying to use my ATT Tilt to share internet with my Axim x51v. It _seems_ to be working: I run Internet Sharing on the Tilt ("Bluetooth Pan", "MEdia Net") and connect to its "Network Access Point" via Bluetooth from the x51v.
It seems to connect properly, but the connection is extremely slow: Internet Explorer will sit on "locating" for about 15 seconds for each page I try to load, then load pages at just a few K per minute. This despite my running an HSDPA internet connection on the Tilt. Does anyone have any idea why this would be so slow? Is there a better way to use the 3G-enabled Tilt to get a high-speed internet connection to my x51v?
Thanks!
Alan
your bottle neck is probable the bluetooth. i would suggest you go get WmWifiRouter, i love it and its really fast even on EDGE.
http://www.wmwifirouter.com/
Free version found here: http://freewarepocketpc.org/2008/communication/wmwifirouter-v089-turn-phone-into-accesspoint
Works great but no encryption and it's a battery hog.
they want me to pay for "tethering"
Up until a month ago, I had the 8525 from at&t. it had internet sharing pre-loaded on it, and the program worked exceptionally well. Unfortunately, my 8525's lcd started whiting out and I ended up getting it warranty replaced with a tilt. to my dismay, I couldn't find the program for internet sharing. after a little digging, I found that the program was still there, but that at&t had hidden it.
Since finding the program, however I have been unable to get it to work.
I connect via usb cable, and I hit connect. The tilt connects to MEdiaNet, but then when I try to open ie on my notebook, I am unable to connect. Then, when I check the connection in the networking and sharing center on the notebook, it tells me that the network I'm currently connected to is local only.
I called At&t for help with this, and they tell me now that there's an additional charge for "tethering" and asked if I would like to upgrade to it.
is there a rom that would allow me to use the internet sharing?
Please Help, I am not IT, but here is my situation and problem, I HAVE: ATT Tilt, Linksys wireless router, Bluetooth, USB internet sharing, I WANT: have no idea how to set up my system to give my Wii internet access. I live in the country so I have no options for wired internet. ATT MediaNet is my only choice. I have unlimited data 3G through my Tilt
So your aim is to give your Wii access to the internet via your Tilt, do I understand correctly?
If so probably the easiest way is by using WMWifiRouter? I guess that should do it and it makes configuration very easy - Google it.
Failing that I think there might be some stuff in the Kaiser pages of the Wiki about sharing internet over Wifi - as above though, I don't think the Wii needs anything special that WMWifiRouter couldn't sort out, and configuration is very simple using that app. I might be wrong and perhaps there is something it can't do which the Wii would need, but helpfully enough there's a trial version available that would let you test...
Regards,
Rob.
First thing that comes to my mind is installing the software called "WMWifi Router" on your Tilt and trying to connect your Wii wirelessly (if i'm right it comes with Nintendo Wi-Fi connection).
goodluck
Caution: You are going to use your Tilt as a modem. You may be entering into the TETHERING world. If you upload/download too much stuff to the Wii via the Tilt, AT&T may wack you some hefty charges.
Google tethering on this site to become aware of the possible consequences. You may need to buy a tethering plan from ATT.
wmwifirouter doesn't support some things and it may not support the Wii. If that doesn't work just use internet connection sharing to your computer and then run ethernet or use adhoc wireless to share the internet to the wii from the computer. Use google or help to figure that all out. It's not hard to do.
Hi there
My Laptop does not have wireless and I am trying to use my Touch Diamond to connect to the wireless at uni so that I can browse the internet on my laptop at uni. I am having two problems figuring this out.
I can connect to the wireless on my diamond at uni to the work connection like the instructions tell me to. But I cannot seem to use this connection to browse the internet. I am not sure what I am doing wrong.
The next issue I have is that if I start the internet sharing tool I only have two options for the connection to share. The first is Telstra internet and the second is Telstra MMS I do not want to use these connections as i am on prepaid and all my credit would be gone in less than a minute.
I hope someone can give me some ideas as to what I am missing in this setup.
Thanks
Telstra Internet
I have now set the internet connection back to telstra but it doesn't want to load the telstra home page anymore. That is why I gave up last time. I wish I could use wifi when I have it and browse the free sites when I don't Telstra is very annoying.
Information
Hello, soon im gonna write a small guide as to how to use your phone incondunction with a router to allow all devices connected to the router to connect via the mobile phones internet connection. I understand that this is not what your askings as from my experence you will not be able to what your are asking. But if you have a unlimited data allowence then this would be a good option.
you need a router
you need wireless on your laptop (dongle/built in)
and some minor knowledge on setting up networks manually
keep your eyes out for the thread.

try to use wmwifirouter - it can use phones wireless and BT/USB connection to pc it will be a router for pc
Unsure
Thanks for your ideas although I might not have made myself clear.
The laptop does not have wireless. And I do not want to use the data connection on my phone as that will cost a fortune.
I wanted to get my phone to connect to the uniwireless and then allow my laptop to connect to the uni wireless for free internet via the phone.
I think I might just give up and buy a usb adaptor for the laptop.
Cheers
wmwifirouter does this !
Thanks
Oh ok, well I would have a look but i don't want to pay for it so im not going to try, especially as every time i have touched my network setup my free browsing stops working.
Thanks
