For This 2008 9-11 Remembrance day I chose to post a poem written by a fellow fire fighter to those who lost their lives. Please use this thread to post your views, ideas, and memories about those of 9-11 and please keep the flaming to a minmum.

He's the guy next door - a man's man with the memory of a little boy.
He has never gotten over the excitement of engines and sirens and danger.
He's a guy like you and me with wants and worries and unfulfillied dreams.
Yet he stands taller than most of us.
He puts it all on the line when the bell rings.
A fireman is at once the most fortunate and the least fortunate of men.
He's a gentle man because he has seen the awesome power of violence out of control.
He's responsive to a child's laughter because his arms have held too many small bodies that will never laugh again.
He's a man who appreciates the simple pleasures of life - hot coffee held in numb, unbending fingers - a warm bed for bone
and muscle compelled beyond feeling - the camaraderie for brave man - the divine peace and selfless serice of a job well
done in the name of all men.
He doesn't wear buttons or wave flags or shout obscenities.
When he marches, it is to honor a fallen comrade.
He doesn't preach the brotherhood of man.
He lives it.

This is me at about 4 years old. I found a small white packet that looked like a sugar packet. It had a skull and crossbones on it - which is either the international symbol for POISON or for PIRATE CANDY! Being 4, I didn't know about the poison thing.
Let's just say pirates don't have good taste in candy.
Very nice................hahahahaha
here's mine
when i was 3, i used to watch my mom taking a bag and going out and then coming back after some time with the bag full of veggies, and other daily stuff.
one sunday (i now know it was sunday as dad was home) when dad and mom were asleep, i took the same bag and headed nowhere(i didn't know where my mom used to go)
i just though there will be 'somebody' who'll put the same stuff inside and i'll be back.
after many hours passed, my dad was out in the locality to trace me and finally found me at the police station where a i was standing with a cop who held me after he seeing a 3yr old walking alone on the roadside.
........by the way my dad confessed to me one day that the cop also angrily reminded my dad of his responsibility towards his family and especially his little son who thinks he is a grown up.
haha - that's a great looking MS Paint Cop!
I always knew this site was crawling with somethingawful.com goons.......
From an XDA Soldier, to all Americans, Happy Independence Day!

Enjoy your 4th, be safe, take care, and be proud.
I have quite a bit planned, as I'm leading the crew performing the Flag Change today, but I'll be enjoying my time off with family and friends. I plan to have a few beers, enjoy some grilled goodies [Brats, Burgers], and watch our amazing Fireworks Display.
What do you all have planned?
Happy Independence Day!!
Thanks to all who serve our country, both civily and militarily.
I did some grilling with my family and then came home and shot off some fireworks with my girl (the love of my life).
To our non-american members, today is the most important holiday in the U.S. and I hope you are having a wonderful day wherever you are.
Plan on relaxing and celebrating our Freedom!
Army Veteran
Hooah to you Vet, and all the other Vets and current soldiers out there.

Grrrrr.... you changed it!
Only a bit. lol! I edited a couple minutes after I saw my quote in your Sig.
As it´s a slow day in XDA I would like to know how many members around celebrate and how many don´t
I just eat the Turkey
Not Sure.
Can you explain on what this day really is? I am not sure if we celebrate it here in India.
The Wikipedia is your friend
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thanksgiving
I don´t think any other country apart from USA and maybe UK celebrate it
For the slow voting today I assume there are a big number of members who celebrate it
No, I don't..neither my country celebrates it.
Thanksgiving day should be everyday...(I always give thanks for everyday that I'm alive and by living in this World..eventhough is a hard one and specially in my country...but always thankful )
UK doesn't In fact I wouldn't've known it was today If it wasn't for XDA
Nice and wise words Mr. Clown!

I celebrate it.
My family normally gets together every month anyway, so that part isn't that big of a deal.
And my family is basically Irish Catholic, so everything tastes bland and flavorless.
UGH
I guess all TGD members are back from their dinner and entering to XDA
But you have not voted?? stills zero for the ones who celebrate.
Now everyone starting to get back from dinner, if not too drunk they will come and vote
Tomorrow I bet poll will radically change
I love this holiday. It's got the BEST food. Also, Black Friday!!!!
I'm asking members of XDA to give whatever they can to save some beautiful animals from getting exterminated by the city pound. Follow my link below and give what you can. Sponsored by Mozilla and Crowdrise. Take a minute and at least look whats going on around you!
Thanks in advance to all XDA members that took a minute out of their day to check it out. Follow the link below!!! Just do it.

Take care Steve...
Animals are great and all but, IB4L. The mods don't seem to like people begging for money on XDA.

As much as I love dogs (cats too, but to a lesser extent ), this is indeed the kind of plea for funds that we don't allow here. Thread closed.

SWEEEEEET VICTORY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
After he had saw my sign three times--- the first one I got a thumbs up.... this was the last hole..... now or never....the people around me were totally encouraging me.....as he was walking down the fair way I started yelling for him, he saw my sign and began to walk toward me, I ducked the ropes and went for it. security stopped me and said I couldn't pass the ropes, which was when i whispered "but...hes coming.....hes coming for me.....he's going to let me take a picture." and BOOM!
there was my 14 years of dedication, wishes, dreams, making his birthday cake every year (yes) sleeping on sidewalks for front row seats, paying 293542958 dollars to stay in the same hotel....calling radio stations for hours to win tickets....attending every concert with in driving distance.....this was it. this was the moment!
