What was the thought process used to update your Tilt's ROM and Radio? The wiki is kind of overwhelming and I would like some input as to why you chose the ROM and Radio that you use. I just got a Tilt today and would appreciate any input you all could provide. Thanks.
Well play with your tilt more before you flash.
After that you will get a feel of what you want/need.
Such as, after playing with the tilt, you found out that you dont need _____. And you primarily use the tilt to ______.
Based on those "blanks". You can hunt through popular ROMS (usually has the most support) and find out which suits you best. However if you do not find one that you really want, go with a LITE ROM and install things yourself; any application you find desirable in another ROM, you can install and remove on a LITE rom, with a little searching. Its a bit more technical, and a lot of people prefer to have it already on the ROM(They tend to HARD RESET/ Flash new ROMs routinely). As another option, theres a guy(KAREEM?) in the ROM subsection of KAISER forums that customizes a ROM with the applications you want.
As for the radio, its honestly best to experiment and take notice of how well your reception is compared to the other radio.
The wiki may be overwhelming, but it has everything you need incase you go wrong.
Thanks ekw.
I'm getting to flash my first rom also. many of the more experienced users on the forum are good enought to list the rom and radio they are using. I am making a list of the most used rom/radio of the senior members and that is the first rom/radio that I will try. That is a start!
choosing a rom is preference, trial by error. all roms out there are very good and each author has their own preferences. there is no right or wrong.
i found that Hang Tuah's rom (lite) are excellent basically because of the WM6.1 dimlight issue, time taken to develope, fast, and storage space on the rom for personal programs.
its basically trying out a new car for a few days, don't like it flash to a different rom that you feel comfortable with.

I ordered an AT&T Tilt last week and I'm waiting for it to arive. I've been reading the forums a lot the past few days and learning about the Kaiser and some of the thins that I can do. However, I've came to one conclusion. There is just way too much stuff out there about tweaking this phone, ROMs, and software for the phone.
What I'm looking for is some kind of guide for newbies on things to do to the Kaiser/Tilt when I first get it. The best that I've found is this site. Are there any other sites on things to tweak? Software to install that are must installs? Any settings to change? Any info on where to start would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Hey, at least I asked about where I could find more information easily instead of posting threads like "How to I put a new ROM on my phone?" and "What are some cool apps for WinMo 6?" and "How do I tweak my Kaiser?". I was asking for info on where to read this for myself instead of posting a bunch of threads that I'm sure have been posted 1000 times before. Also, the layout of this site isn't what I would call that intuitive. There is a lot of great information here, but I found it a bit difficult to sort through it and find what I'm looking for.
did you try searching?
Yes, I searched for "kaiser new user" and "kaiser first time user" or some other derivative of those terms and nothing popped out for me. I got results, but there weren't any clear cut results. Yes, someone that has much, much more experience on this site might have known which thread/sticky/wiki to click on, but as a newbie to this site, there wasn't anything obvious to me.
I have an at&t tilt. I have flashed to L26_KaiserDiamond_V9. On the stock cingular rom windows 6 I had free ram up to 68mb. After the flash I have only 48mb free. Under the device info it says I have 128 total ram. Under Memory in settings It says I have 48 free out of 85.XX. I dont understand the difference between the 128 total and the 85.XX. Why the difference in the two roms. I understand the different programs etc, but I cant figure out the large loss of available ram. Thanks for any help. I love this place.

You have 6 posts now and two of those are NEW THREADS....ON THE SAME QUESTION! Didn't you think it was weird that no one responded to your first question just hours before you posted the same question again? WTF? Are you kidding me? Flippin' unbelievable!
Had you took the time and conducted a simple search as I did on your issue, you would have found this link,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=286313
where you can read all about memory allocation. READ THE ENTIRE THREAD
~Gwen
P.S. As far as the two ROMS being different..DUH! All ROMS are different. It depends on the chefs style and discipline when determining the speed, overall functionality, bells, whistles, etc and yes, even the available space you'll have - From page pool settings before the flash, to configurations based on what the popular consensus seems to be at the time, the ROMS and available memory you may have after flashing and installing programs, etc., are as unique as the chefs who cooked them.
omg that was girl power.
Thanks, a simple answer would have done. I did search and found everything about ram and more. Nothing about my confusion. A little overwhelmed sifting through everything. I may need to brush up on my searching skills. Any suggestions? Thanks for taking the time to look it up and give me that link. Also the picture was interesting and amusing. If you were so upset of the ignorance of my question it puzzles me why you went through so much trouble to answer. I guess you could not resist. I hope you impressed your peers. Thank you for the effort.
Chris
if i wanted diamond rom, i would buy a diamond.. i mean i appreciate the work but whats up with some kaiser roms for the kaiser
if you look, you will find some new non-diamond roms
L26's Diamond v9 is not a diamond rom. It's a kaiser rom that just looks like a diamond rom. You should get that. It's from an official kaiser rom rather than from a diamond rom.
Kraize
Some people want a diamond but can't get it. This is just a great way to get that diamond look on the Kaiser. The rom choice is yours.
I also suggest you go for the lite roms if you don't want the diamond appeal and such.
I haven't flashed any of the diamond roms, because of their lack of stability. I'm sticking w/ dutty's APR29 WM6.1 Hybrid. I like it A bunch of people have flashed back to this rom
Try garmins or romeo, duttys/leo`s or hyperdragon, or any other of the non diamond port -> non diamond series. There are many out there

Every rom is going to have bugs. There are fixes you just have to search. I'm pretty sure you can go to google and type in "gps problems kaiser" ..You know what I'll do it for you!!
Look at the top results... start there.
I would go in one of those threads and search within the thread for your problem, if you can't find it. Ask the question in that thread. You'll have other people with GPS problem willing to assist. Geez... It doesn't take long for the love of god. I searched, screenshot, uploaded to photobucket and made this post in less than 5 minutes. (maybe because I type fast) but still you get the jist of it.
Just wondering if there is a ROM out there with the battery shown in percent on the top bar insted of the iconic representation i have at the moment.
They already have this feature on the Hermes forum.
Also, a little color goes a long way.....
There are many separate programs that can do this. Look into them (try batti).
You can try this...measurement is by every 10% change though...
Since you posted this under development, wich it really doesnt fit under in my belief as just pimping looks of youre rom are a little away from the true purpose of this section. Anyway, since you asked. Rip open youre phcanOverbmp.dll and just make the changes there, (should start around 1001/icon group) then you need to regedit some. Something simulare as this :
Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\ResOver\Bitmaps]
"BaseDll"="phcanOverbmp.dll"
"BatteryIconIdStart"=dword: [B]youre value[/B]
"BatteryIconLevels"=dword:[B]youre levels[/B]
Cook it in..
If you going to just cab it make sure to digitaly sign it, you can ofc. take advantage of phcanrc.dll.0409.mui But thats another story. Search for Marshall07 you will find some intrest of study how he work on changing waiting cursors.
I attached a .dll whit this effect:

You asked howto, now you know Go make that battery and release it under the propper section
double..

It's not its main purpose, but it does it well.....besides being a great start menu replacement.

This is what you're after - also the best ROM I've used so far
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=428261
If you're on WM 6.1 my recommendation would be Ariel battery:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=364278
It's pretty neat as you can move the icon around instead of having it in just one fixed position. It becomes easier when you move on to WM 6.5. All you have to do is switch to the right ROM. I'm currently using ahmedfikry's light rom 6.5 23569 V3 and the battery % looks pretty nice there.
I really want to take advantage of these cooked ROM's but despite much reading and frustration I have had no luck and am looking for anyone willing to toss a bone to a noob.
Got my "Unlocked Tilt 2" from eBay and love it but it's got the bloated ATT ROM. Tried Hard-SPL (auto and manual ) but it doesn't work. I considered that maybe it's already been Hard-SPL'd to unlock it by the previous owner and tried flashing ROM's directly but it always stalls at the status bar with 0% until timeout.
Any suggestions...please?
You need to post in the HardSPL thread

Didn't get conned, it's a great phone and a great step up from my Hermes. Pic is attached, as is the info from bootlogger screen if that helps.
Thanks steviewevie, I'll post similar on the hard-SPL board.
You have not got hard spl, when you have, the spl say .85 olinex. then you may enter the world of custom OS's.

Problem solved! My advice for anyone else with a used phone (e.g. eBay) is to do a hard-reset before doing anything else. After doing that I installed enablerapinew.cab and for the first time got the black screen. This didn't fix it completely, but I managed to get manual SSPL to work.
Sense 2.5 is really a great improvement!
