activesync problem: rapi.dll clashes with pulsar drivers - Off-topic

hope this will not be the improper place, anyway i've got a weird problem and i cannot find a solution.
the situation is this: i am a professional composer and i've been using a creamware pulsar sound card as my main tool for quite a few years.
i am also a htc kaiser user and have been using activesync to, well you know what you use it for.
anyway i've just installed a fresh os (windows xp sp3) because the old one was getting slower and slower, but now i can't use activesync. it turns out, a dll called rapi.dll (in the windows/system32 folder) is its main dll.
unfortunately, the drivers for the pulsar card also use a rapi.dll, situated in pulsar's own folder. and every time i try to start up cubase or soundforge or whatever audio program, it will open the wrong rapi.dll, being the activesync one in the windows/system32 folder.
so i had to uninstall activesync in order to keep on working.
how will i convince these programs they are looking in the wrong place? any suggestions?
thanks a lot, Joop

Slowdown + Application compatibility + Defragmenting XDA2i

Hi,
I'd be interested in everyone's comments re the slowdown caused by adding programs, and I guess others would too.
Part of it is normal caused by eating up the available memory, both storage (and ram?)
However I have found that some applications do not seem to work well on the XDA2i, even though they do actually work. The problem is that this only comes to light after a while, after you've actually shelled out the money for a product that seems fine.
I list below products that I have found work on my XDA2i and those that seem to irritate the XDA2i so that it gradually gets worse and needs a hard reset.
I have tried defragmenting, and believe that Pocket Mechanic works fine a few times then things grind to a halt.
I am not an expert, and obviously cannot prove that the products are faulty, so take what I list 'with a pinch of salt' - but it might be that others might add others or agree/disagree with my findings, and might be careful about thoughily testing before purchase.
1-Calc 2.3.1 seems fine
BIBLE WITH YOU for Pocket PC- GMPSoft seems fine.
Journal Bar seems fine
POCKET ARTIST seems fine
Pocket Controller- Professional 5.04 seems fine
POCKET DVD WIZARD seems fine
Pocket Streamer Pro seems fine
PocketBible - NIV Version by Laridian seems fine
RESCO EXPLORER 2005 seems fine
TCPMP (The Core Media Player) (freeware) seems fine
MTUX RingToneX - Ringtone Coloring 2.1 not sure about this
DVD to Pocket PC for me was problematic after version 2
1-Pass - Revolutionary Security App not sure
eXPerience (Windows XP Style Interface) had this running ok but slow on XDA2 but not tested on XDA2i
File Transfer Anywhere(PPC Anywhere) 3.01. Tried trial period but didn't like it.
iLOCK e-wallet password manager 1.0.1 had this running ok but slow on XDA2 but not tested on XDA2i
POCKET TV ENTERPRISE worked fine up to version 1.2 on my XDA2i
Pocket Mechanic. Not sure. I bought it to defrag XDA2i and storage. Found that after a few times the system slows down and needs to be restored.
TV Remote commander. Not sure about the usefulness because Very limited range.

andromeda9,
try using Tweaks2K2.NET. quite amazing tweaking software. can speed up your display. i can feel the speed different.....
Tweaks2k2net
Thanks Clustered.
I've downloaded the trial. What settings worked best for you?
Under Video, I tick the Speed Up Display.
Thanks the display is quicker...
Thanks for the tip...
The display is quicker.
It seems overkill to go for Tweaks2K2 but just for one display fix, and the Date/time on the bar (I love it!) so is there anything else you might recommend?
Thanks
just try yourself....maybe you will like others.....
Ok.
Appreciate your help.
I removed O2 Active and the XDA2i is about 10 times quicker and more reliable now.
This is how I removed O2 active:
1) Use file explorer to navigate to: my device>windows>startup.
2) Move the file called connections to another folder.
3) Navigate to: my device>windows>fonts.
4) Rename the "xpdr_02" file to "xpdr_021".
5) Soft reset your phone.
6) Go to: Settings>system>remove programs.
7) Uninstall O2 active. You may get a message saying that certain dll files are in use in windows directory- simply use file explorer to rename these files and try again. Rename them back afterwards.
8) Use file explorer to navigate to: my device>windows>fonts.
9) Rename the "xpdr_021" file back to "xpdr_02".
10) Navigate to: my device>windows>mobile solutions.
11) Cut and paste this folder to your built in storage
12) Soft reset the phone.
Thanks Hedley!
Hedley,
:?:
I just thought of a question re your unistall procedure.
After unistall, can you change 'profile' in order not to cause problems on aircraft?
In Active, I quite liked the simplicity of the email setup. I suppose once it's installed it is not neccessary, but did you find / is there anything else likely to be needed after removing?
Thanks
It is definately Faster!!
I am impressed with this one, my XDAIIi is definately a lot faster!
Cheers for that!

Hi Hedley,
:?:
I'm thinking about what you describe, maybe migfht trial it over Christmas... but once Active is uninstalled can you tell me how I might cope with Airplane travel?
i.e. can you turn off the 'airplane' parts? because obviously just shutting down the XDA leves it actively listening.#
Thanks
"Flight" mode
You can enable flight mode (turn off mobile receiver) by tapping the reception icon on the top bar. In the bubble that appears, there is a link to "Turn on flight mode" / "Turn off flight mode"
The piece of software I really miss in the O2 active is the "profile" stuff, which unless I'm blind isn't in the 2003 OS. For example: normal, work, silent, noisy etc
I wouldn't manually uninstall the Active rubbish - do a corporate install instead. If you have to manually delete locked files etc etc you're asking for trouble later.
Thanks MMM
Thanks for the information and tips.
What is a corporate install - I am not familar with the term.

Goto Start->Settings->Today->Items and uncheck the ones O2 puts on there (can't think off hand which ones they are!) this stops the dll in use messages.

The only problem with the corporate install I found, was it didn't setup the O2 GPRS and MMS settings before finishing device setup, I had a pain setting them up manually, and when I finally managed it, they didn't work 100% (or maybe it was i didn't trust my work 100%!)
You can invoke a corporate install by selecting it when it asks if you are a personal or corporate user. it'll ask you for a password, which is 0506 if memory serves me correct.

Weird Activesync behaviour - HELP !!

[I have searched but not found help on this specific problem]
Hi, I have recently deleted the office partnership to my Tytn II and then updated with the official 6.1 WM ROM.
Now, when I place the Tytn in the USB cradle to connect my XP computer starts a file explorer window and then a small window with a connection request to www.msnusers.com. When this small window is cancelled then a second copy appears. After that is cancelled no further window comes. Then, the activesync starts OK and performs a normal sync.
So, is there a way to stop the file explorer window appearing and then the two msnusers connect windows ??
I have already removed AS 4.5 and re-installed.
Many thanks for tips.
It seems like you have MSN enabled auto connect or something. Have your tried going through MSN Live and see if you can disable it there?
Thanks Prolab
I don't find in Windows Live any autoconnect. I think you're right that something is trying to connect.
I checked my rss readers (egress & newsgator go) and these are not on auto connect.
I guess I will just have to keep hunting this bug.
Regards, D
Hi
Is seems this is a common problem. One solution that seems to work is to delete "My Web Sites on MSN" on the network neighbourhood. There is a lot of hits on google for this.
This stops the msnusers window.
Now I just need to find a way to stop the file explorer window.

Won't sync with Outlook

My Tytn2 has worked fine for over a year. Recently outlook.pst file got too large so I created a new mail profile and have been using that (outlook2.pst). I noticed it was not synchronising so renamed my outlook2.pst to outlook.pst restarted outlook and all is working fine, but attempting to synchronise is causing following errors now (using Sync Center on Vista Business):
Mobile Device Center: “Synchronization could not be completed. If this condition persists, try deleting and then re-creating the device's sync relationships.”
HTC Tytn 2: “A problem has occurred with repllog.exe”
I can t seem to get past these errors whatever I do (I have deleted and re-created the partnership numerous times). HELP!
To bad you cant sync mate! However there are no need for another "cant sync whit" tread. Use another that already are discussing this issue! This forum is getting harder and harder to read when people make new treads on the same issue every day. Another thing, you do not mention what rom you are on, this issue may have everything to do whit just that. This might be a loongshot as I dont have much detail on your problem but try to delete partnership whit phone and run this cab I made once I had replog issue on one of my rom`s: Raiisak`s Repair Activesync (just a simple cab that use FixASRunAt.exe).
I did have a really good search round Google and this forum as I know people round here are a bit touchy from last time I posted.
I did not find anything similar or any answers.
I do not use ActiveSync -- I am on Vista using Mobile Device Centre.
ROM is the standard one it came with. CE OS 5.2.19212 (Build 19212.1.0.3)
I have not changed any settings on the phone -- just Outlook.pst as described -- I'm sure this is the cause but not sure how to fix it.
Also, I cannot copy CAB files or PHM regedit to the phone because I cannot connect to it at all!!

Any way to get Java(jar) games working on a PPC? Also, a bluetooth issue.

1) Just wanna know if I could get something like STALKER mobile running on my PPC.
2) Also, my bluetooth just decided to never work again... no matter how much I switch it on/off, it just... doesn't respond. Just started doing this today... could someone please go into their PPC's /windows/ directory and give me these files in a .ZIP or .RAR?
btagsvc.dll
btd.dll
btdrt.dll
bthamb.dll
bthasplugin.dll
bthatci.dll
bthcsr.dll
bthlink.dll
bthsc.dll
bthuart.dll
bthuniv.dll
bthusb.dll
bthutil.dll
btibserial.dll
BTIcon_Dll.dll
btobserial.dll
BTSetting.exe
Doesn't have to be every last one, any that you have will do. Thanks in advance.
is your ppc a touch viva or opal? what do you mean it doesn't work? have you tried to look at the bluetooth settings?
1)
what is used to run java apps on ppc is called a midlet manager

I gotta thank you big time on this! I still have a ton of JAVA games from my SymbianOS days that I'll be overjoyed to try out when I get some free time to dig into this.

In the connection manager, I try to activate bluetooth and the icon that's supposed to appear doesn't, nor does the phone become visible. None of my bluetooth headsets, keyboards or other devices will pair or even be detected.
Or, more simply put, bluetooth just doesn't work.
I'm pretty sure a clean boot would fix it, but that's something I'm really trying to avoid since there's a whole hell of installation, registry optimization and app registration I'll have to go through again.
So instead, I did some hunting around and found a list of all the DLLs that are supposed to be in the windows folder for BT to work properly, only come to find that I'm missing very many of them.
Dunno if ALL of them are required or what, all I know is that less than 2 days ago, I had functioning bluetooth, and now it just won't do anything.
I'm guessing it's something that happened during an installation/uninstallation, and since there seems to be no BT repair apps out there, I'm looking for as many of those DLLs as I can find.

WinCE GPS Hack?

Hi ppl.
About a year ago I bough a Uniden portable GPS unit. Pretty nice machine, plays music, vids, pictures, has an SD slot (for GPS software and Multimedia) and most importantly it runs Windows CE (not sure which version).
Seeing as it's kind of out of date, but still a fully functional machine, I want to see what I can do on the software side.
It runs Windows CE which means I should, at least in theory, be able to install other apps, right?
After investigating the machine a bit, including a tear-down, the only thing I can come up with is by using the SD card to load in a File explorer of some kind to give me access to the devices file system.
All the apps seem to be hard-coded into the GPS unit itself, except the GPS Software. It's using Igo 2006, the EXE file is on the SD card, which is where you used to download the updates for it. Without the EXE file on the card, the device is essentially a cheesy looking multimedia player and the Navigation function of the unit is greyed out.
I'm a bit of a noob at this, so, so far all i've tried is putting Total Commanders EXE and other files on the SD card, and renaming the EXE to MobileNavigator.EXE. The navigation function is then selectable, but once clicked, it does nothing more than grey out the Navigation function again.
Anyone have any ideas / suggestions as to how I can gain access to the file system? I've got a wicked in-car DVD player that handles everything, so I'm not afraid to take out the multimedia functions of the GPS and leave it as a purely GPS device, as well as I'd like to be able to load in different GPS softwares which are available online.
Try creating a folder on the storage card called 2577, and rename the Total Commander EXE to autorun.exe, and then place autorun.exe in 2577 (you might also want to try putting the other Total Commander files in that folder too). Also, make sure you're using the Total Commander for Windows CE, not Windows Mobile. Hopefully that should give you more access into the system, and the ability to install programs. This site might also be of some help. If this doesn't work, try creating another folder called 1824, and do the same.
Thanks Dave, had a go at that and checked out the attached information, however nothing happened.
I have found out that this device, a Uniden GNS8360, is using WinCE 4.2.
Another guy was successful in gaining access to the file system in an older model, the GNS8350, even though I've also tried his method, I stlil don't have access. I won't bother posting an outside link, however his method involved using a program called dTree, renamed as the MobileNavigator.EXE file, and attempted to boot that from the devices menu.
Any other help would be appreciated
Some Success!
I have successfully been able to load a relatively OLD version of Total Commander onto the device, it has now replaced the totally boring "Pairs" game.
Next step is to find some way to enable the on-screen keyboard, it's settings are there in control panel, but can't do much else without it.
Once again any suggestions will be investigated and appreciated

Sweet I'll have to have a look around, i've found the latest 2009 maps for the stock software (igo 2006 plus) gonna see if I can tweak them into it, but now that I have access to the file system I can launch more'n one navigation program so that'd be awesome, off to google i go (no pun intended)
There also seem to be some "warezed" versions of igo 2008, I've noticed some apps designed for later WinMo/WinCE versions won't install, but if I run them thru Cab2OEM to extract their files, put them on the SD Card, some of them will actually launch and run on the older CE4.2. This certainly seems to be a decent little hand-held PC - Would be great if I could find a way to flash something like WinMo 5 or 6.1 onto it I'll dig out the system spec's and see if there's anything useful in it.
You also might want to check out http://www.hpcfactor.com and http://hpcmonex.net (run by XDA's cmonex). I have an old NEC MobilePro 900C, which runs Windows CE .NET 4.2, and those are probably the best Windows CE sites on the Internet, the former better for tutorials and the latter for utilities and downloads. They contain the latest versions of Pocket Internet Explorer, the latest Opera Mobile Betas that still work on Windows CE, Bochs for PPC, TCPMP, and many more. Also, you might want to check out Gigabar. It's a free Windows CE taskbar program which I think might restore taskbar/start menu fuctionality.
omgh4x 800th post!
