I have posted a bug with the rear speaker and the volume control. On my unit, when you turn this feature on, the volume is very loud. Even if you turn down the volume to the lowest setting, the volume is less, but still to loud. In a discussion with HTC today, they had no answer as to why this is happening. They indicated that when you turn down the volume to the lowest setting, it should mute. They pointed out that in WM6 there is no settings tab for setting the rear speaker volume as in WM5. Has anyone else tried this feature?
I don't have this problem.
But it doesn't mute though when i use the roll switch on the left side of the kaiser to lower the volume, it does decrease the volume to a minimum, but is NOT muted completely. (that's not a problem for me.. if i don't want to hear the rear speaker, i don't activate them ).

Hi
When using the speaker phone and turning down the volume, even on the lowest setting it isn't off completely. This makes absolute sense as if you are on a call using the speaker phone having no sound at all, well what is the point of being on the call in the first place?
When playing sound elsewhere, i.e. not in a call turning it down completely does mute it.
Your particular issue seems to be the sound doesn't go quiet enough for you, maybe HTC can change this in future firmware. I expect the complaints they get most often is it isn't loud enough to annoy people even more with silly ring tones!

Phil
"silly ring tones!"
Ha, that should be a song

this is my pet hate
the number of ar$eholes who play music through the speaker on their phones - i nearly kill someone every day on the bus to work - one day im going to bludgeon one to death with my kaiser
im sitting inside now and theres some prick outside in his nova doing his bit to deny me of any peace - im gonna lose it and go vigilante pretty soon
Is there any way to reduce the calling sound of X1? (The speaker on the top of the screen) Mine is so hard, even on the lowest volume. When I set the volume to the highest volume, it is like I have set to hands free. Its really annoying to have the sound that hard, because the people who are next to me can hear the voice of the person who I'm talking with. When I talk a few minutes, I even get a headache.
Why don't you turn off the Speakerphone?
Seriously, I constantly move the phone a bit away from my ear. I can hear it anyway Anyone who can help me with this?
I also suspect that the sound is coming out of the speakerphone and not the earphone. Ensure that hte speakerphone is turned off on your phone while calling. Maybe you've change a setting somewhere? Another reason could be that you are using fring or skype to call.... the calls are diverted to the speakerphone instead of the earphone when you use skype or fring. There is a tweak available to redirect the sound to the earphone. You can also use headphones instead.
Thanks for your reply. I dont use fring or skype. And I know that the sound comes from the earphone. I have tested it by putting my finger on the speakerphone and earphone. The hard sound comes really from the earphone.
Where is the tweak to redirect the sound to the earphone btw?
I have the same issue, and no matter which ROM I've used the earphone minimum volume is just too loud. Maybe there is a registry setting to lower it?
I hope so. Weird that less people have same kind of problem.
hello,
same issue for me....
Hi All,
I hope all is well and you are enjoying the holiday break.
I'm having trouble with my new SGN: the "In-Call" volume is too low.
When I'm on a street or in the car (anywhere with background noise), I can barely hear what a person says when I'm talking on my phone. Headset/Speaker volume is fine and they can also be further boosted by using Volume+ app from the Market but I cannot seem to find any cure for the low In-Call volume.
I did some research online and I noticed someone has posted a trick to solve similar challenge for the SGII by using Samsung Service Code (See below)
-------------------------------------------------------------
Dialer *#*#197328640#*#*
[5] AUDIO
[1] HANDSET
[1] VOLUME
[1] SRC Speech RX Volume
[5]5_lvl : 88
Menu -> Key Input
Change to any number greater than 88 (Max:100)
OK
Press back to save.
Default values:
0_lvl: 63
1_lvl: 68
2_lvl: 73
3_lvl: 78
4_lvl: 83
5_lvl: 88
---------------------------------------------------
** I tried the same trick on SGN which I purchased from Amazon but nothing happens when I select option, [5] AUDIO. It will not drill down to next set of sub-menus even if I key in the "5" from the main menu.
Please let me know if anyone else are also experiencing the similar challenges. Thank you very much for your time.
Unfortunately the sound is a big issue here.
Supercurio is working on an app to increase the vol. THis will need root and will work only on with the headset. THis app should be released in the next few days.
I was looking for a solution to increase the speaker volume ( Not quality ) as the speaker sound is low for voice calls.
There is an app called volume+ in the market. You can try it for the speaker.
Hi drgopoos,
Are you saying that you also felt In-Call Volume for SGN is way too low? I am just curious if I have a faulty unit or this issue is concerning all SGN units in general. I did try the Volume+ App from the market and it does boost the volume for Headset and External Speaker but it does nothing to the "In-Call" Volume.

Try moving the entire phone lower onto your ear. I know it sounds obvious, but the speaker is quite high on the device and my volume was low because the speaker was too high on my ear. Once I lowered it (feels awkward) it was much louder.
Anyone else felt the volume on your SGN is way too low or am I going deaf...
Can you recommend a way to remedy this problem?
I know how frustrating it can be when the earpiece speaker isn't loud enough. My nexus one had low in-call volume and it was frustrating. My Note, however, has very high in-call volume on the earpiece speaker! I have to turn it down a few notches for comfort. I'd say you might have a defective unit, or maybe you're holding it wrong like that other guy suggested.
If you're talking about the external speaker being too quiet, the one for speaker phone calls, playing music, ring tunes/notifications, etc., then I agree. I hope Supercurio's working on a fix for that. I'm currently using an equalizer from the market that allows me to turn all frequencies up a few decibels, but at the expense of sound quality.
Mine is loud enough...

The volume is ok with ear peice when i am inside the house and silent.
However outside , when i am walking in the street its to difficult.
Both indoors and outdoors my Note is one of the loudest phones i owned. I can't complain about its ear piece. In fact, i have to lower it 2-3 clicks to be comfortable
Yeah...I got the same problem also...
Indoor works great! but outdoor...oh man....
Earpiece in call volume is good. But, speakerphone in call volume is horrendous! I've tried volume+, equalizer, volume boost, AnEq Equalizer and nothing works! Very sad.
I can't access audio menu [5]. Always loopa me back to main menu. Doea anybody know how to fix that?

Actually, my earpiece volume is quite good. Just a suggestion, not meant to insult you, but since the phone is so large could it be possible you are not placing the earpiece properly over your ear?
For those with poor speakerphone volume the ONLY (I've tried at least 4-5) application I found that worked is Audioboost SGS2 (It's 2.5USD in the market) but that's the only one that truly raises EVERY volume. Be careful though I think there might be potential to damage your speakerphone if you raise it too high. I have it right around 88 (highest is 93)
Hope this helps!
My European version of SGN is about the loudest phone i ever had, speaker phone wise. It's also crystal clear! maybe because i was coming from Desire HD, which had kinda awful sound

I want to retract my last statement. Audioboost does raise the in-call speakerphone volume, BUT it effectively ruins everything else. It creates ALOT of static, even at middle volume levels. It was so bad I had to revert the settings and uninstall it. The search continues...

Try this
Go to settings > call settings > set equalizer to bright , disable voice enhancement.
and then hear the in call volume, u will be surprised
PS. After disabling the mic noise suppression, mic quality increases.

It's a little late to ask this but, could you solve your low call volume problem?
I have the same low volume trouble with my Xperia Go while making phone calls. The phone is good and still operable after years but i always had call problems. The in-call volume is too low, i can't hear the person clearly especially in noisy places. We used Sony Ericsson K750, w800 phones in the past and they also had low volume in calls. And i see that there are still some Sony users which complain about this same problem like us.
If you solved this issue, could you please let me know?
Thanks in advance. :good:
I don't know what XZ you guys have, but mine is too loud and I didn't do anything to it related to sound. In fact I'm quite annoyed that the phone is too loud when I have a conversation, thus everyone around me being able to hear. I always have to lower the volume to the minimum and it's still too damn loud.
Is there anything that can lower the volume, not make it go up??
I've even disabled the MusicFX and Audio Settings but it's still too loud..

Really?
I almost thougt that it was a Sony characteristic, to limit the volume to some certain level which is low, when compared to other brands (maybe for avoiding to damage the ears?). When i search the web with "sony xperia low call volume" parameters, i see there are lots of complaints about different phones from Sony (NOT just XperiaZ).
Do we have faulty phones, or do you have really sensitive ears? Can you please compare the sound level with different brand phones also?

mine is XZ C6603 and in-call volume is average. not too low or too loud (using bright equalizer on call setting)
have you try to re flash stock firmware? if yes, maybe you have faulty phone
Speakers are great for music or gaming but in call volume is quiet. both the speaker phone and the earpiece volume are too quiet for my liking. Is there any way to make them louder?
im also searching for solution...incall volume is so low
Really nothing? Earpiece and speaker phone call volume is so quiet when listening to Media or gaming it has the loudest most robust speakers of anything I've ever used. Is there a build.prop file I can change?
Mixer_paths! It's that. But which one? Somebody help!
So here's the fix-
Edit your build.prop file line "ro.audio.vibra.ring.vol.idx=5" I changed mine to 8 and reset.
Either the test call I made to my wife was wonky and really loud or volume is greatly increased. Actually had to turn volume down.

Have you made any more test calls, 1 isn't really conclusive
Also, I'm assuming this survives a reboot, correct?
Cheers
Yeah sorry didn't reply back definitely isn't the fix. Not sure why none of the developers here haven't chimed in on this. Fantastic speakers but they're so limited specifically for phone calls. Wtf.
has anyone found a fix for this? call volume is very low.
NOTE: speakers work fine in playing music, videos and playing games.
I have the same issue and I have been checking this thread from time to time to see if anyone had posted a possible fix for this. I hope someone knows how to fix this low call volume.
